Went here today after a long hike at Steep Rock Preserve. I ordered a vegetable panini. The menu said it was to have a portobello mushroom in it. While it was delicious, it wasn't really what I ordered. (They were out of the mushrooms). I complained to the woman at the counter. She kindly refunded the cost of the sandwich back to me. Great little coffee shop in Washington Depot. They have a pretty big menu for breakfast and lunch considering it's a small operation, as well as a great selection of pastries and other sweets. Recently renovated interior offers more seating and comfy work spaces. Great place to meet friends or to get some work done outside of the office. They also have an ice cream bar that's open in the summer which is a great way to beat the heat. Definitely a local favorite. read more

What a wonderful spot! I stopped here while on a road trip through Connecticut, hearing it was the inspiration behind Gilmore Girls Stars Hollow definitely drew me in to this charming town. Marty's is really cute, house-like street appeal, plenty of parking on a Sunday morning. Outdoor and indoor seating, the counter has a variety of delicious baked goods. You can either order at the counter to go or sit down with the food menu and be served at a table. The two men working there are super nice but talk to you casually and frankly (giving me Luke-esque vibes). The decor is inviting and cozy, fancier than Luke's but it has the same feel you'd expect. Small town diner with great food, good crowd and friendly service. I was very comfortable there! We found nice couch chairs in a corner looking out the window, really nice! I ordered a pomegranate green tea and waffle breakfast with a side of eggs and sausage. It was amazing! I'm not a big waffle fan, but now I am! Those were delicious! I'm so thrilled to have stopped here, it's a winner. I wish I was in the area more so I could return for a scone or muffin with coffee, but if you're nearby- go!! It's a gem. read more

Cute little coffee shop with a great variety of pastries! I'm not a coffee person but it looked like they had a good selection of tea as well. All I got was a chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie but it was DELICIOUS and no doubt so are all of the other pastries and cookies. Lots of sitting room inside and out. read more

Ordered 4 bakery items to go. Opened the box to check that 4 items were in there and noticed 1 was missing. Went back and got the fourth item. Came home and opened the box and 2/3 of the original 3 items put in the box were wrong. Apparently you not only have to count your items but also have to physically walk along and watch your order get filled here just FYI. read more

I agree with other commenters here that Marty's can have a snobby feel to it and various staff members there need an attitude adjustment. If you can get beyond that (understandable if you can't) you can get a decent sandwich and coffee drink there. read more

I ran into into Marty's for 3 coffees this afternoon after picking up my books at the Hickory Stick Book Shop. I've been in before and have always enjoyed their coffee and muffins. Today I noticed a "Tapas Menu" posted and decided to run out to the car and drag my mom and grandmother in. We sat - relaxed and ordered a few plates off the menu. Mom and Grandma each had a glass of wine - and we shared generous portions of chicken meatballs - crab cake sliders and a plate of brownies. The food was well prepared - perfectly seasoned and presented by friendly and attentive staff. The plates were very reasonably priced - and a perfect afternoon snack. I would recommend stopping in and trying out the menu items. We will certainly return! read more

Today was cold and rainy and we wanted a warm beverage before heading back home after dropping our son off at school. Ordered 2 mocha lattes. Terrible! Not sure what type of chocolate was used but it taste nothing like real chocolate. Super sugary with no flavor. Could not even taste the espresso either. Please modify and upgrade the ingredients so that these lattes are rich, creamy and worth the $4.50 read more

Baked goods taste very generic and it looks like nothing is baked in house as they claim, also they are not that friendly as you would aspect in a town like this... got step up a notch! read more

I have been to Marty's a few times for coffee and baked goods. Today I wanted to try lunch there, big mistake. I ordered a vegetarian chili and a garden veggie burger. For some reason the vegetarian chili had tons of Parmesan cheese in it, totally ruining the taste. As far as the veggie burger no where on the menu did it say there was mayonnaise only guacamole on the garden burger it was smothered in mayo, and there was no guacamole. I tried to pick apart the sandwich and just eat the veggie burger one bite and it went in the trash. Hands down the worst veggie burger I have ever had. Need less to say I will not be back. If you are looking for lunch try anywhere else in town. read more

Marty's has great coffee as well as great bacon, egg, and cheese wraps. The prices are typical of the area and are a bit higher than in Woodbury or new Milford but I would say the quality of the food reflects the higher price. read more

The backstory of how Marty's got its name is heartbreaking/heartwarming, which I only found out after repeatedly calling the owner, Blane, Marty. We are always there early before the crowds, so we get to see some of the inner workings of the setup. Place is very clean, open. We stick to bakery goods so cannot comment on the hot food. Good food. Nice atmosphere. Slightly pricey, but worth it. Most staff are friendly and helpful except for one older woman who never smiles. They can be VERY slow to prepare food. I work in the area and have only a half hour for lunch every day, and if I call for take out, I learned need to call 30 minutes before I want to pick it up to be sure it is ready on time. Hello, we came here for seven years once or twice a week for coffee and breakfast or lunch. The portions got smaller and smaller. The chicken in the burrito slowly all but disappeared. The rice side got replaced with two crackers. This portion and ingredient reduction is across the menu. The help is temperamentally friendly. Finally when we were overcharged a dollar for each of our meals and four dollars for a Swiss miss instant hot chocolate, we had enough. We no longer go there and will not go in the future. Good luck Blain, you seem to chase all of your local regulars away. I guess you don't need the money. I'd like to add that the coffee would be great if it was hot! I recently made a trip up to Washington Depot, and got coffee and a panini for lunch at Marty's. I had the chicken and goat cheese panini, and had spinach added. It was so yummy! It was not a small sandwich, and I couldn't help but eat the whole thing. I would have had another if I had room! The coffee was great, and my friend and I loved sitting outside at their outdoor tables and chatting in the sun. This is a great little spot! Next time we'll make sure to save room for ice cream. read more

We recently were invited by a friend to have lunch at Marty's after traveling from New York City to visit them. The ambience is lovely and quaint, and my child's hamburger lunch was fine. But the following became issues for me and ergo, this sub-par rating: I ordered the curried chicken salad for lunch along with coffee. It is supposed to be curried chicken served over salad greens with warm bread. My lunch was the last to arrive, the waiter put it down and immediately walked away.....all of which is fine. When I looked at it, the scoop of chicken salad was approximately no more than the size of 2-3 tablespoons, or maybe a 1/2 cup. ( I do cook ...) and no bread at all. I was kind of surprised at what was served to me ....abnormally small for what was to be my lunch. Seemed more like an appetizer except for $ 8.95 , it should have been ' lunch-sized', it was not advertised as an appetizer...It was almost as if the chef or server was doing something else when dishing out the chicken salad and forgot to finish. I felt too uncomfortable to complain or question it because we were invited to lunch and everybody else was busy and eating. I did get up to finally ask for the bread since none was ever brought to me even though I waited nearly 10 minutes thinking that the waiter would return with it. But he never did. Nor did he ever come back to refill our water glasses or to ask if everything was ok...and by the way, it did taste good . I am just used to better service and I don't think that one should order off of the ' lunch menu' and feel like they were served the complimentary type of appetizers many restaurants put on your table before you order ! I know that this is not a ' chow down' type of place but it isn't on 5th Avenue in Manhattan either, and chicken happens to be a very inexpensive ingredient. I guess more attention should be paid to what goes onto diner's plates before it leaves the kitchen . Your customers shouldn't leave feeling like they haven't eaten anything. But as I mentioned, it did taste good . And lastly, When I used the ladies room before leaving, it was in such a horrific state that I asked to speak to the Manager. I can't remember the last time there wasn't ANY toilet paper in a bathroom at a restaurant. Marty's has become a regular Sunday morning stopover for us. Excellent breakfast omelets (our favorite is their country-style omelet), fresh orange juice, tasty baked goods and wonderful coffee. This is by far my favorite spot to stop at while on a weekend drive in the hubby's Porsche (he gets upset when I don't capitalize that!) We've stopped at Marty's several times for lunch or an afternoon snack and we've always left happy. I love the ginger peach iced tea and the chocolate croissants, and we've never tried a soup there we didn't love (especially the gazpacho). We love stopping here for a snack and drink, then continuing on to either Kent or the winery at Lake Waramaug for the afternoon. Great food and even better people watching. read more

Order coffee and muffins to go and didn't even receive a "thank you" they just told me "Get your coffee at the end of the counter". I totally agree with LC. My Husband and I stopped in there today and once last week. The older women behind the counter is anything but friendly. She was even rude to a younger fellow worker when we were there last week. Besides the fact that another individual make the cappuccinos today and they were terrible. Way too hot froth. They not only need lessons in Customer service but making coffee drinks. Time to move on to far better coffe houses. No more try's. read more

Marty's could be okay if they ever decided to sell real coffee. The coffee they currently sell is awful. With so many coffee roasters nearby - Barrington for example - why buy the mass produced crud? On top of that not one employee (owner included) knows how to make a latte or cappuccino. The temperature of the drink will scorch your tongue and the froth is nothing but bubbles. read more

This place is so-so. Biggest complaint is the service. Went by today at 4:30....posted hours are until 5. Lady was in there but the door was locked. She did not even acknowledge us or say sorry that they are closed early. All we wanted was some hot cocoa for the kids. Another family came right after us and received the same treatment.
