So I've gone here on a few occasions in recent past for breakfast and lunch -- I have yet to be disappointed! I seem to keep ordering something on their Special board on the sidewalk (usually for lunch), and this morning had one of their amazing breakfast dishes. All fair and reasonably priced and served quite quickly. Per the recommendation of another poster here, I've been ordering their coffee with a 'heavy' shot of mocha which has greatly improved my enjoyment of such. They offer the mocha as a syrup or powder. I actually tried two baked items (sweets) today which other than being pricey (IMO), were in-fact very good and I'm going to 'assume' home-made. When I arrived it was nice and quiet but by the time I left it was semi-full of yentas and their obnoxious kids so took my baked goods and split (small very loud space!)! read more

We went Wednesday June 25 at noon for lunch. They have a very limited lunch menu. Four sandwiches. We both ordered the smoked Turkey on baguette. They were out of turkey. We both had chicken. One prepared with the ingredients of the smoked turkey sandwich and one prepared as the grilled Romesco chicken sandwich. Both were tasty. The bread was delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. We also ordered 2 waters. Our bill was $45. It was pricey for the amount we received. There wasn't much on the bread. Next time we go back, I will get coffee or tea (great selection) and a muffin. Was in town for the Decade Days during the first weekend of April and came to this coffee shop for a coffee quick breakfast prior to the various events of the day. Though the Lox bagel was quite tasty, their latte was even better!! It had the perfect mix of sweet lavender with the rich taste of espresso. It was a perfect meal to get ready for the busy day! It's a shame. The app doesn't work to place an order, when you call in an order for pickup they mess it up, and if you dare go in to dine, expect to be freezing as the door takes forever to close. And after a zero dark thirty day of flea marketing nearby, we were so famished, we needed to get a few a.m. bites before heading up home. River & R. includes hearty breakfast and lunch dishes at reasonable prices. Don't be put off by the on-trend feel of this place because it's actually comfy. There are Vegan items, Vegetarian ones and meaty dishes also. Place your order up front, pay and meal is brought to you. My 'Moroccan Egg' dish with like a zaatar sprinkle was very tasty. And despite my fried egg being on the flat side, the substantially runny yolk was everything for dunking. Hubs enjoyed his BEC on a croissant along with his decaf espresso. An added plus is a view of tree-blanketed Fort Hill. I wish the iced coffee came in a larger size the 16oz seemed so small. My coffee was an iced mocha I liked it was not overly sweet. The breakfast was so good. I am not sure what the seasoning was on my potatoes but it was sooo yummy. The potatoes were crispy, not greasy and flavorful. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfect and nice and fluffy. What a fun coffee shop! I stopped in the area to get a photo at the gazebo made famous in the Gilmore Girls! I found this gem to grab a coffee. I got an iced mocha and it was yummy. My boyfriend got a chai latte and it lasted 5 minutes, so he liked it. The shop has a modern, earthy feel. Really clean and super pleasant vibe. This place is just too cute! The decor is super whimsical and the staff was lovely. We had their special grapefruit vanilla iced tea (creamy and fresh all at once), the roasted turkey sammie (LOVED), and the breakfast bagel (only complaint here is the egg is over hard NOT scrambled so picky egg eaters be aware). I feel spoiled having found this place, but also slightly despondent knowing it's nowhere close to where I live. Return trips will be fewer in number than I would like; if I lived close I would certainly be a regular. If you are reading this, and do happen to live close, go become a regular and thank me later. We came here to get some not-breakfast to go, and I had the opportunity to consume one of the best turkey sandwiches in recent memory, the Roasted Turkey with Applewood Smoked Bacon. If I had to pinpoint one thing about the sandwich, I think the apples really made it. It came with some with equally insane fries. Honestly. Double fried shoestrings that were still crunchy despite sitting in the to-go box for 20 minutes before we got to eating them. While we were waiting, we took a Kent Falls IPA on the sidewalk, because...why not? I was very happy to see it on the menu; it's much harder (impossible) to come by in NJ. The food was excellent and the staff was super nice. It's small, and worth any wait you may have to brave. COVID stuff: At the moment, indoor dining is still a no-go. There are two tables outside, so if you are lucky you could snag one, but I'd say this is mostly an order & go situation, which they are more than prepared for - right down to the paper cups for secret, not so secret IPA sipping on Bank Street. read more

R&R is my heaven. If you want to have a cozy, magical day, I recommend the Lavender Haze latte. The honey and lavender makes you feel like you are in a hot tub in a tiny fairy village, being served elixirs of intoxicating ambrosia. Also, the staff are all absolute gems. The exciting aspect of the fresh find has dwindled. No longer do they have a hand-written stylish menu on the wall like so many hip coffee places do, but now it is a small and uninviting list of goods. The Vermonter and its accompanying hash brown are still good. Their bagels are decent but I have much better bagels on my side of the woods (The Last Drop). Their coffee is good. The free fall in my rating is simply because half of their model doesn't work. We have sampled about four different pastries now between our visits and the highest they get in satisfaction is "okay". Their blueberry loaf had but one sad single blueberry note on a bottom corner, as if that bare minimum would qualify it so. Their almond croissant is no better than the Trader Joe's you leave in the counter the night before. When every single pastry seems to be priced at more than four bucks, the disappointment grows larger, as it can't beat what you could gather in grocery run in the cost-to-yum flavor. This was probably my last visit to this coffee shop as I left breakfast in a sour mood, and that's no way to start the day. read more

Have been wanting to try this cute little place for a while now. Finally visited for the first time this morning for a lovely breakfast as the first snowflakes fell outside. A quaint town, New Milford features this great little town center with cute shops and restaurants. This River & Rail cafe is one of them! It's absolutely beautifully decorated and finished inside. The details in the chandeliers to the tables to the menu board.. so pleasing to the eye for sure. We ordered cappuccino and a coffee and a delicious breakfast. Mine was the avocado toast and my husband had the farmer's breakfast. Both dishes featured their herb roasted potatoes and they were crispy and delicious!! My avocado toast was on yummy grain bread and my husband's bacon and eggs were perfect as well. We both enjoyed our coffee and breakfast so much. Perfectly prepared, freshly made, delicious, clean food that we appreciate and look for in a restaurant. We sat in the window seat area and enjoyed a pretty view of the little town center and the snowfall. We will most definitely return. So clean, so nicely done.
