Love that there's finally a Marugame in this area! The store looks good, employees are very helpful when dining in, and the food is as good as always. Store is has some really good music too compared to the usual music I hear at others. Staff looked like they were having fun while serving customers and seem to have a good sense of comradery. Just joyful. Thank you marugame !! Will be visiting again!
Finally got to try this udon place and so close to my turf, the udon noodles were well cooked, for a place that's almost like a cafeteria line set up.. the food is solid. Especially their tempura selections. For vegetarians, udon choices are extremely limited BUT tons of delicious vegetarian tempura that's fried very well and kept perfectly crisp as you move through the ordering line-- short as it may be, it's way better than places like pieology or subway.. completely different kind of food and ordering process but hopefully the point comes across clear. You pay at the end of the line like IKEA cafeteria and bust your own trays at the end. For a casual easy friendly lunch, highly recommended. And do try the tamagoyaki, sweet potato tempura and potato croquette. The vegetable yakiudon was good but I think the meat eater options would be the way to go. There's also a nice little station for your topping/dipping sauce needs. Thanks Marugame! I'll be back!
Visiting Rowland Height's new Marugame Udon right outside at corner of 99 Ranch Supermarket of Rowland Heights. The restaurant is large, spacious with tables and seats inside and outside. Clean, modern, and cafeteria order process is Marugame Udon's vibe. Service is good, although there is no waiter or waitress - everyone here is working really hard. We have nikutama udon - flavorful, savory with beef and egg. Kake udon large: good size and portion, Mala tang udon is weird and not really tasty. Creamy broth udon, it's heavier on everything including sauces, and very tasty. It's a great place to eat and efficiency is high here. Lots of choices of food including fritters and drinks.
Solid Marugame location. I'm glad that we have a location in Rowland Heights and I don't have to make a trip all the way to Arcadia or San Gabriel. Crazy to think that we used to have to go to Costa Mesa or Glendale in order to enjoy this franchise's udon noodles. It's located in the Tawa Marketplace plaza and that entire shopping area is getting revamped with a bunch of new businesses, Marugame being one of them, so parking can get a bit hectic there, but weirdly, again, people are obsessed with getting the closest parking possible, so if you go towards the periphery or more towards the 99 Ranch side, there's parking galore. I went around 7 PM on a weekday and there was a good amount of people, but there was still a handful of open tables and seating outside. Much more spacious than the Arcadia location (at least from a glance). The set up is the same, you go down cafeteria style, order the udon or rice bowl that you'd like, get any add-ons or tempura, then pay and get some snacks or drinks at the end. Service was super friendly and welcoming, much more personable than the other locations that I've been to. After you pay for your meal, there's a station where you can get your utensils, to go packaging, water, and condiments like tempura bits, seaweed, ginger, onion, katsu sauce, chili oil, etc. So customize to your heart's content. For my visit, I got the: 1) Beef Udon (regular sized): -I also got a tamagoyaki and potato croquette, my usual go-to's. The regular bowl of udon is filling enough, but I wanted to be indulgent. Can't go wrong with either of these too, especially with a dash of the katsu sauce. Fluffy potato interior and crisp, slightly oily exterior for the croquette, and the sweet dense egg flavor of the tamagoyaki is very comforting. -Udon had a generous amount of tender thinly sliced sweet beef throughout and the noodles had the perfect chewy texture that absorbed the flavor of the broth really well. Lots of onion in it too. -I added more green onion, tempura bits, and some shichimi powder to taste. But you can do without these extra condiments since they make a good bowl of udon already. 2) Calamansi Juice: -Refreshing sweet citrus taste. Not too tart. I can water it a bit down to pare down the sweetness, but overall, not bad. Apparently this location is the only one with the malatang udon and it was recommended to me by one of the cool workers (PERIODT) and it's apparently decently spicy. It looks ginormous so I think if I do get it, it'd be a dining trip with at least 1 if not 2 more people to share. Great addition to Rowland Heights!
The staff were super nice which made the experience very welcoming. I tried the malatang udon, which is a location exclusive item, and it came with a generous amount of veggies with a bit of pork mixed in. It wasn't really spicy but it's not one I'd personally get again because I love their signature dishes more. The tempura was so fresh probably because the turnover was high when we visited. The chicken katsu, shrimp, and croquette were all crispy and delicious. The drinks were too sweet for my liking but I prefer the calamansi more if I had to choose. There was a good amount of tables inside and the outside seating wasn't bad at all when we visited later in the evening.
One of my favorite things about this restaurant is being able to watch the fresh udon noodles being made. Everything is made to order, and then you make your way down the line where you can grab freshly fried tempura and drinks before heading to the condiment station for tempura sauce and toppings. I always love the chewy texture of their udon noodles, and this time I also had a chance to try a couple of their rice dishes. We ordered several dishes including the Malatang Udon, which is exclusive to this location, Beef Udon, Chicken Katsu Curry Rice, Shrimp Tempura Bento, and Assorted Tempura. The tempura was so light and crispy! For drinks, we had the Calamansi and Pineapple Sunrise. Both were good but I preferred the Pineapple Sunrise. The staff were all very welcoming and everything moved quickly, even with the long line from their recent grand opening. Overall, it was a great experience.
Stopped by for the first time (grand opening!) on Saturday, 8/8/26 with my parents during lunch time: - 3 Regular Nikutama Udon ($13.49 each) = $40.47 - 1 Gyoza (5 pieces) = $4.49 [redeemed my points and got this for free] - 1 Potato Croquette = $2.29 - 1 Tamagoyaki Tempura = $2.99 The line was a bit long but not as long as Friday (I saw the massive line where it expanded all the way INSIDE 99 Ranch on Instagram). You also get to spin the wheel outsider per receipt (so we paid in 2 separate payments). As a huge fan of Marugame Udon, I've visited multiple locations over the years, including original shops in Tokyo, spots in Hawaii, and all throughout Southern California. Unfortunately, this Rowland Heights location didn't quite live up to those standards. I specifically came out to try the exclusive Malatang Udon, which is only available at this location. Overall, it was nothing special. While the spicy flavor profile had a decent kick, the broth leaned way too salty. The bowl was also underwhelming in terms of toppings--there was a very limited amount of vegetables and pork slices. On a positive note, the pork itself was impressive: tender, fresh, and remarkably flavorful. The biggest letdown, however, was the noodle quality. The hallmark of good udon is that perfect, bouncy kosh texture, but these noodles lacked chewiness entirely and felt a bit flat. Given the great experiences I've had at other Marugame locations, I was hoping for better quality control here. If you visit, you might be better off sticking to their classic menu items and fresh tempura side items rather than the location-exclusive specials.
Really nice that this opened up in the area! The udon counter is very fast and you get to pick up your tempura afterward on your own. I liked the broth and udon texture, but the beef was quite cold by the time I was eating it. The tempura is also fried well and they have sauce for it on the side. The staff here are friendly and the seating is self serve. Overall it's a convenient place for a quick meal.
Came here on a random weekday between lunch and dinner hour. I was actually looking for a snack/ light meal. This place is spacious and has more seating compared to the Costa Mesa and Arcadia locations. This place has the best service in all Marugame Udon locations I've been to. I wanted the basic Kake udon, but I didn't want it hot. The man behind the counter (I'm guessing the manager?) was so helpful, and offered to make my udon not as hot. I decided to get Kitsune udon instead, and he made it perfect temp. Not sure if they could do adjustments on busier times though. Water, tempura sauce, crunch topping, seaweed, green onion, grated ginger, and cilantro were self serve. I didn't get the tempura this time, but they look fresh and only prepared a few to keep them fresh I guess. I hope they keep up with the great service. Overall, it was a relaxing and quick meal that was well worth the value.
Note: they are not doing online/phone/to go orders at this time. Tried the malatang, and it was just okay. I got the large bowl and it doesnt really look as filled as the other bowls i have seen. Vegetables include cabbage, onion, carrots, and broccoli that came in a plastic bag before the chef cooks it, all which seemed slightly undercooked even when sitting in the broth. The broth itself is pretty bland, outside of the "mala" numbing feeling, there wasnt much else. The noodles were fine as is. Store itself was clean, and staff were nice, but as previously mentioned, they are not taking any to go orders, so the only option is to dine inside or pack your to go order yourself in the self serve area. Overall, if you want to try the malatang here, I would go to a real malatang place and get udon noodles.
We went during their grand opening weekend. Friendly staff, clean and plentiful tables, but the quality doesn't seem as good as the Arcadia location.
We just left the restaurant and tried the new Malatang Udon and Beef Udon. Both tasted pretty good and were pretty much what we expected. The Malatang was around a mild spice level, which was nice. My only comment on the food is that I wish they gave a little more broth with the udon. However, the service experience was a bit confusing. Every table has a sign saying that if you scan the QR code and leave a review, you can receive a passport coupon book. I completed the review as instructed, but when I asked the staff about it, no one in the restaurant seemed to know what the coupon book was or how to redeem it. If this promotion is being advertised on every table, the staff should definitely be informed and trained on how it works. The food was good, but the lack of communication and staff training regarding their own promotion was disappointing.

I can see the self cleanup being an issue. Very standard udon place. Some items may have too heavy of a taste. I recommend the lighter dashi versions in that case. read more

I believe the place was very spacious, and there was plenty of parking outside, so it was pretty convenient! The taste was good, but I could tell the operation hasn't been fully stabilized yet. The machine was broken, and they mentioned that all the udon was being cut by hand. Overall it was a good dinner but I would recommend visiting this place a little later once things are more settled. read more

Considering all the chaos festivities with just being opened I'd rate my togo experience 3/5! Waited in line for about 30mins and got the chicken curry. The server was nice and asked if I wanted curry on the side since I was taking this togo which was very thoughtful. I said yes but they still put the curry on the meal lol Dining in looked like a good meal with the price and nice seating but I wouldn't get this again for togo. There currently isn't a togo process in place and I had to pack the food into a togo container myself since they gave it to me in the dine in bowl I'll be looking forward to trying this again for the dining in experience since they did not have the best togo experience. New Marugame Udon location just opened in Rowland Heights! This location is near the 99ranch on Nogales, right across from the boiling crab. Interior was clean, well-lit, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was very friendly and welcoming which I appreciated. This location offers a unique "Mala Tang" flavor, and though I didn't try it my friends said it was delicious and not too spicy! The staff recommended me the "Nikutama" udon and it was sooo good! It came with a good amount of beef and I loved the runny egg. Nothing beats the fresh taste of udon noodles that are prepared right in front of you. This is what sets Marugame apart from other places. My only concern is the toppings bar area...It is very small so it gets crowded quick. Otherwise, I can't wait to come back. I can see definitely see this being the new hot spot this upcoming winter read more

This was our first time at Marugame. Luckily we were early and there wasn't a line. They don't have a full menu yet, but I got my favorite udon (kitsune) and really liked it. It's just as good as what I've had at a sit-down restaurant. It was about $10 for a regular, which looks small, but was filling. Also tried the tamagoyaki, zucchini, and sweet potato tenpura. They were good, but the fresh zucchini was the best. There is unlimited tenkasu, cilantro, green onion, ginger, and limes. The best thing, though, are the noodles made in-house. I'll definitely be back to try the tonkotsu-style dashi whenever it becomes available. Oh, and heads up, the plastic chairs feel flimsy, but are stronger than they look. read more

Really enjoyed our meal at Marugame Udon in Rowland Heights! The udon was fresh, chewy, and delicious, and everything came out hot and flavorful. We tried a few different bowls and also had some tempura on the side. The portions were filling and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant was clean and the service was quick even though it was busy. Definitely a great spot when you're craving Japanese udon. We'll be back again! read more
