Spicy (regular) curry with chicken katsu
    Jeremy S.

I've been here several times now, and each visit was excellent. There was a wait for tables accommodating a party of three on a Sunday morning, but we decided to eat at the bar. This time, I tried the omurice, which is egg-wrapped, curry-flavored rice and chicken with your choice of sauce. I chose their curry, which I've always enjoyed. This also came with your choice of corn or miso soup and a salad. I also ordered a side topping of sautéed chicken as I was especially hungry that morning. The omelet wrapping the rice was nicely fluffy with a deliciously subtle blend of savory and sweet flavors. I enjoyed the diverse spices from the curry-flavored rice. With small chunks of chicken, the dish was slightly more filling. I wish there was just a little more curry portioned out. The sautéed chicken on the side was delicious and reminded me of times I enjoyed pan-fried steak dishes from Hong Kong cafes. Interestingly, the omurice came with seasoned fries and steamed carrots and green beans a slight touch of American cuisine). Overall, it was delicious combining all the flavors from the curry, rice, omelet, and sautéed chicken into one bite. Service was good. All our dishes had a nice and careful presentation. Our server also refilled my water without me asking. However, the restaurant can get loud due to the small interior. As usual, parking was in high demand, but we found a spot close to the north exit. There was a crowd of people standing near the entrance, so I thought we were in for a long wait. However, they were thankfully waiting for another restaurant nearby.

This place was pretty good. I'm a big fan of the corn soup, super creamy and you already know I'm on the cream team. The salad dressing is good too, and they sell it on the side. The curry itself is good too, flavorful with a nice kick. Not a super big fan of the pork katsu. Got the loin but was still kinda lean and tough to eat. Also the breading falls off really easily. Stick to the chicken, really juicy and tender despite being white meat. A nice little family vibe in a plaza filled corporate Chinese mumbo jumbo restaurants.

A must-order here is the chicken katsu curry and the hamburger steak with demi-glace sauce. Both dishes come with miso soup and a side salad. The chicken katsu was crispy on the outside and tender inside, while the curry had a rich spicy flavor. The hamburger steak was juicy, and the demi-glace sauce paired perfectly with it. Great spot for a hearty Japanese comfort meal.

Its rare to have Japanese owned restaurants here This place used to be really good But these few years my attempt just disappointed happy they have doria but not that good

    Spicy Chicken Katsu Currt

One of the authentic Japanese comfort food that was both effortless and delectable. I am glad that most of their meals are accompanied by a salad and a choice of Miso or Corn soup. Although we tried several options, we regretfully missed the Chicken Nanban, one of their top 5 dishes. Here are a few of the dishes we sampled tonight: - Chicken Katsu - Spicy Chicken Katsu Curry Rice - Hamburg Steak - White Fish Meuniere - served with rich butter and clam bouillon cream sauce - Menchi Katsu appetizer

I'm so glad I braved the Yes plaza traffic to finally eat at Midoh. The inside is really cozy with no frills. We started with the chicken karaage ($8.50 for 4 pcs) which were much more impressive than I had anticipated. First, the pieces of chicken are pretty substantial in size. And second, the batter is so light and airy. It's the perfect way to start the meal. For my entree, I chose the curry udon ($16.50) with chicken. I sometimes find the curry soup to be too thick for my liking, but the curry soup here is more broth like. It was nice and soupy and didn't thicken over the course of my meal. Delish. We also ordered the tonkatsu loin ($8.50) with the plain curry ($12.50. Don't let the "plain" descriptor fool you - the curry had a nice kick. The tonkatsu loin was the perfect accompaniment to the curry - the meat was moist, tender and hearty. I really love and appreciate that the curry is ordered separate - they give you a plate full which ensures that you have enough curry for all your dipping needs. Then your chosen katsu is served on the side, preventing it from getting soggy. Genius really. Judging from other tables - ordering katsu is the way to go. Everyone had a big plate of katsu something or another. Service was top tier. Overall, I had a really nice weeknight dining experience at Midoh.

3.5 stars Our party of 5 came to Midoh right upon opening on a Sunday at 11:30am. We were one of the first and opted to sit outside (covered and shaded). Enjoyed the nice breeze outside but it felt like we were slightly forgotten about as we waited for someone to come take our order - eventually flagged someone down. Ordered several different menu items to try family style: French Fries ($6), Tonkatsu Loin + Fillet ($23), Chicken Katsu ($18), Nabeyaki Udon with Chicken ($18), and Carbonara Udon ($18). Some of the meals came with options of corn or miso soup. The French fries in the pictures were wedges but they came out to be standard sized which I enjoyed more - nice and crispy served with a side of ketchup. We enjoyed the chicken katsu over pork katsu as it was more tender and juicy. The carbonara was deliciously creamy and had chunks of bacon. The nabeyaki udon was a disappointment - soup lacked flavor and the dish was subpar, would skip on this next time. Overall, not a bad place if you're craving Japanese food / katsu. Located in the Diamond Plaza so parking is absolutely horrible during weekend peak hours (parking spots are also compact). There is an underground lot as well.

Came here with my husband on a Saturday night and the place was a full house. We tried the curry with a side of the pork loin (our favorite), mentai udon, and the seafood doria. The seafood doria is super rich and heavy, so it's probably best to share. I won't get this again tho. The mentai udon was very flavorful and creamy. Also, if you take their survey, you can get a free soft drink.

I love Midoh, it's a little restaurant in the back corner of Diamond Plaza that we stumbled on by chance, looking to try something new. Now it's one of my favorite spots for carbonara, the rarest time I will order udon as my primary entree as they make it from scratch and super tasty! My husband has tried many dishes here from curry to their white fish meuniere. They also had these soft cookie ice cream treats- they were so good and came in matcha tiramisu, original and chestnut (original was my favorite, simple and delicious. I also really like their corn soup (which is blended to a smooth consistency) and served in a cup to drink/sip. And their salad dressing.. I could drink (not really), but they even have this available for sale if you want to take some home and need some encouragement to eat salad--it is tangy and flavorful. The staff here is always friendly and always a pleasure to deal with.

Consistently tasty katsu spot. Not the cheapest but always delicious. Very friendly and great staff! Always helpful. Good parking and plaza for fun

If you're a fan of hearty, comforting Japanese dishes, Midoh (in the heart of Diamond Plaza) will hit the spot. We ordered the following dishes: Curry Udon: The udon noodles are perfectly chewy and were swimming in a rich, velvety curry broth. I asked for additional Shichimi on the side to spice it up. The balance of flavors is spot-on, and the portion size is generous (I was concerned that it wouldn't be fulfilling but it also came with a side of salad). I was hoping for an onsen egg, but the egg was very thoroughly hard boiled. Despite that, this was a great dish! Curry Rice with Hamburg Steak: The hamburg steak was tender and juicy, drizzled in a savory curry sauce. The rice underneath soaked up all the flavor and the pickled ginger was a nice complement. We also ordered a side of naan flatbread to sop up that delicious curry sauce. Side Salad with Special Midoh Dressing: I was pleasantly surprised by how good the salad was. The dressing was light but flavorful...perfectly tangy and zesty. It was a very refreshing start to the meal and I liked it so much I ordered a bottle to-go so I can finally eat my greens enthusiastically. Creamy Corn Soup: This was a very pretty dish! It was silky smooth, creamy, and very corn forward. This came with our order of the curry rice/hamburg steak. Bouchee Chestnut Cream: To finish off the meal, we ordered the chestnut cream. It was admittedly very small ($3) and hadn't thawed completely yet. I don't know if it quite had freezer burn, but the thing was a block of ice...When it finally did melt in my mouth, the chestnut flavor was very enjoyable. Ambiance: The servers were very attentive and were quick to help us. We went on a random Thursday evening during dinner and there weren't many people in the restaurant. Overall, Midoh had great food that makes you want to come back again. I can't wait to explore more of their menu next time. If you're in the area, make sure you stop by!

Nice casual Japanese restaurant in Diamond Plaza towards the back offering a good selection of non-sushi items. Tried a few different dishes over lunch and all were tasty - carbonara udon, fried oysters and pork cutlet. Check out my pics!

Came back after a few years and ordered the same thing- food still as good! Staff was attentive and quick with taking orders and bringing takeout boxes. I got the curry (mild) ($12.50) with chicken katsu ($8.50) as an add-on. It comes with a side of salad and soup. I chose the corn soup and it was yummy. The katsu was fried just right with tender chicken inside. The portion is still very good as I had leftovers.

I ordered a curry chicken cutlet and double matcha (pure matcha selection) and my order came out in less than 10 minutes. I must've gotten lucky to be the first one here because I noticed later customers receive their orders in 15-20 minutes. The curry chicken is very good for its value. $16 for generous amount of chicken and its thick and juicy. The curry was good flavor on the sweeter side and had a good amount of spice (my level of choice was 2). The double matcha was also very good, they use Marukyu Koyamaen Rindou and the matcha flavor was strong enough to my liking. The cream top was thicker than other places I've tried in the area and had good matcha flavor. For the double matcha I went with Pure Matcha which is matcha with water + matcha cream top. The ambiance inside is like a tea shop, cozy, lots of tables without feeling like a restaurant but rather like a place to study. They had calm music playing when I was here. The Air Conditioner was also on and it was very comfortable to sit inside. I'd definitely come back. I think it's good value, the workers are very nice and it's good to support family owned.

But…read morewhile many people see the volume izakayas and ramen shops, it's actually quite rare to stumble upon a traditional mom & pop spot that makes classic Japanese favorites. That's why I immediately came down to Tamaya when I noticed the laid back atmosphere, small storefront, and modest food offerings. Walking up on a Wednesday evening around 6:45PM, there was a line to eat in the small dining room. But we were seated relatively quickly. Looking at the menu, there were large variety of appetizers ranging from your chashu and takoyaki to tofu steaks and gyozas. But what I was interested in was the amount of different ramen options, curry plates, and don bowls. With so many choices, you're definitely in for more than your typical Japanese spot. For this visit, I decided to try their Meat Lover's Ramen which was $19.25 at the time of this review. And looking at the bowl, I was very pleased. For one, large chunks of beef, chicken, and chashu pork were all on the surface with some vegetables and cilantro. The noodles to ingredient ratio was pretty equal at about 50% noodles to 50% ingredients. And with a soup base that filled up to the top of the bowl, there was no justification needed for the $19 price tag. If you're looking for a ramen with mass quantity, Tamaya is definitely the spot for you! Taste-wise, the flavors did clash a little as the meats all had different flavors to them. But nonetheless, they all paired well with the rest of the ingredients. While the chunks of beef had a soy sauce undertone to them, the chashu was more sweet and fatty. The chicken tasted lightly stir-fried, but was chunky and filling. The noodles of this dish were softer, but tasted great with the creamy broth. And although the greens were garnishes, they tasted freshly washed and added some fresh flavors to the bowl of ramen. There are so many ramen shops in the San Gabriel Valley that get the hype from so many reviewers. And to that, Tamaya does just as good of a job at making a great ramen (if not better)! The place feels cozy and approachable for those looking to try different kinds of Japanese food, the prices for the food were very good in the Rowland Heights area, the food tasted delicious, and the offerings are very diverse compared to many other specialized places. Because of these offerings, Tamaya easily earns a 5/5 in my book and is a place I will return to again and again.

Now that same small fried rice is $7, so these days I usually just stick with the ramen. The interior has barely changed over the years, and the restaurant has stayed in the same location the entire time. It's funny because this is a ramen restaurant, but the coffee is surprisingly good and perfectly matches my taste. One of the reasons I enjoy coming here so much is the atmosphere. You can often hear the staff speaking Japanese, which really adds to the authentic vibe and makes it feel like you're eating at a small ramen shop in Japan. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to.

We waited nearly 2 hours for our table, but time went by quickly because my boyfriend and I played free video games the entire time! Unfortunately, we were not aware that we would have limited time to eat. Instead of 1 1/2 hours, we only had 45 minutes because last call was 9:30. We did feel rushed and were told by someone we would be given extra time, but we were not. Our waiter said the person who seated us was wrong. We still paid full price, which really didn't sit well with me since we weren't able to take our time to choose what we wanted to eat. Instead, we had to rush to order and got full quickly. Why didn't the hostess let us know when we arrived? For $85 a person, I would have gone somewhere else and come back another time to enjoy myself, not feel rushed and made to feel like I was eating desserts and side items that had been out all day. We didn't get to try the Wagyu burgers since there weren't any. Just empty trays. Four or five pieces of dessert to choose from. Not four or five types, just five left. I guess if you go later, they do not put any additional food out. Pretty disappointing, especially with the high cost. Our server, Kenzie, was very friendly and definitely made our night better. We finally decided to try Jazz Cat Cafe after always seeing it and talking about trying it, and…read moreoverall it was pretty disappointing. The service itself honestly wasn't bad at all. Since it was our first time there, we asked the waitress for suggestions on what to order and even how everything worked, and she was nice and helpful throughout the visit. One thing that already started the experience off confusing was that we were only given the regular menu with the QR code. Even though the all-you-can-eat option is advertised right at the front, nobody mentioned it to us at all. We only found out because we asked about it ourselves, and then suddenly they brought out a completely separate menu for the AYCE option. After trying it, I definitely don't think it was worth $40 per person. Another frustrating part was how ordering worked. There were three of us doing AYCE, and we asked for three different meats thinking we'd each try different items. Instead, they brought out three full orders of every single meat we mentioned without clarifying first. That immediately created pressure to finish everything because with AYCE you can get charged extra for leftovers. I really think they should ask customers if they mean one order of each item for the table or multiples of every item before bringing that much food out, especially for first-time customers. We tried the chicken, premium angus beef, and lamb. The chicken honestly had almost no flavor at all and felt pointless to even eat. The premium angus beef was decent, and the lamb was probably the best out of the three, but overall everything was still very bland. I don't eat pork, so we went with one of the vegetarian water-based broths since most of the others are pork based, and unfortunately that broth also tasted extremely plain. The sauces also didn't help much. Most of them had a really strong peanut flavor, and only one of the sauces was even decent, but it was still pretty bland overall. I honestly don't even know what any of them were because they just brought out multiple sauces without really explaining them to us. We even asked what we could add to spice things up and were given chili sauce, but somehow it still barely made a difference. I really wanted to like this place too because the food honestly looked great when it came out, but the flavor just didn't match the presentation at all. Their soda machine was also down during our visit, so there were no sodas available. On top of that, the table we were seated at felt really cramped and pushed right against the wall, which made eating uncomfortable. The restroom was another issue. When I went in, it was dirty enough that I had to clean up after someone else just to use it. The only real positive was that the all-you-can-eat option definitely filled us up, so we at least didn't leave hungry. I just wish the food had more flavor and spice because based on the pictures and the way people talk about this place, I expected a lot better.
