We were in Reading, PA for a show at the Santander Center last weekend and stayed overnight so in the morning we looked for a local breakfast place and happened upon Marvel Ranch. It's in the downtown of Reading on a corner. There is plenty of parking on the street. We walked in and there was a sign that said we should seat ourselves. There were quite a few open tables at that time so we picked a table that had a bench seat on one side and a chair on the other. The decor was simple yet updated. The seats were comfortable. We were soon greeted by a friendly server who got us drinks. The menu has many breakfast options, including eggs, sandwiches, omelettes, and messes. I didn't feel like having any meat, so I ordered two over easy eggs with rye toast, and added on their cheesy home fries. My husband ordered the big mess, which was a mixture of eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, and he added in hot beef Italian sausage. It came with toast. That dish was huge! He really enjoyed it because he cleaned his plate. My dish also was wonderful. I loved the cheesy home fries paired up with the eggs to sop up the yolk. We did notice that they do a lot of food delivery business, with at least six people waiting to pick up food at any given time. By the time we left, the place was almost full. If we lived in Reading, we would frequent Marvel Ranch all the time. The food was great, the service was wonderful, the prices were reasonable, and the people were friendly. My dad used to get us Marvel Ranch breakfast all the time when I was a kid. I've always loved the home fries with cheese and onions! The best home fries I've ever had! I was a little afraid after I saw the Gordon Ramsey episode, but figured hey hopefully they've continued in the way Gordon taught them. The breakfast was phenomenal! The French toast with banana slices tasted great and the cream chipped beef over toast and home fries with cheese and onions was top tier. Definitely give Marvel Ranch a try, especially for breakfast! Also, just to note the pricing is great! I haven't been to the store since the remodel, but from the looks of the Gordon Ramsey episode, the inside of the restaurant looks awesome. Since its been a while since I been here and since Chef Gordon Ramsey had renovated and helped Marcel Ranch, I felt it was due time to review the place once more! The outside looks more or less the same, the windows are pretty much different. Stepping inside I was amazed at how the place looks compared to before! Amazing! Gordon managed to capture what Marvel Ranch is to us here! The photos of when the restaurant began are up! The menu options are amazing! They kept the old menu but the new menu is also pretty affordable! Glad Gordon kept that in mind for us here who live and were born and raised in the city! The workers and staff and cooks are so friendly! That much has also been the same! They also kept the seat yourself option which is to me is great! I do love choosing where i sit! The seats and tables are great and look so vintage and retro! I received my food and it seems you get more than what is was before! I took a bite and it was amazing! 10/10! I dont get the rude complaints. Maybe it was your own stank attitude. The waitress was friendly, attentive ,accurate and just over all efficient. The cashier was friendly as well. The food was good ( Patty melt and fries ) and hot and the coffee was really good compared to other diners. I want to go back and this time get breakfast items. This place is as good an old-school, working-class, neighborhood staple diner as exists, period. I have lived all over and in my youth worked in foodservice at the highest levels. I make a point of stopping for breakfast there every chance I get for the biscuits and gravy, which to this point in my life are the only ones I've found North of Virginia to be worth a damn. An attentive, joyous and occasionally raucous kitchen with good music and the entire world represented in the clientele. The Marvel Ranch is Truly Marvelous! Yelp *really* came thru on this one. In Reading for a Wedding and in search of a good breakfast place the morning after. Less than a mile from our Hotel was the Marvel Ranch and we never would have found it without Yelp! This place is the original GREASY SPOON. From the outside, you aren't even sure what is going on inside. It could be a Halloween store, or it could be closed for refurbishing. You really can't tell when you drive by...Yelp directions took us right to the door so we knew it was some type of breakfast place. When the door opened however, I thought it might be some kind of soup kitchen. Dark...dirty...it looked like it could use a good cleaning along with some of the patrons. I was not deterred as I had just read the Yelp reviews and knew what we were heading into. A foodie adventure! We entered and stood around for a moment getting our bearings as it was bright as day outside and pretty dark inside. Seat yourself anywhere you can, there were plenty of spots available and they turn tables over quick. Menu's are on the table...a very happy young girl came over to greet us and take our drink orders while a very nice (big and strong too) young man set us up with silver\napkins. I can't say enough how nice everyone was...Not just the employees, but the other people in the restaurant. Everyone seemed very happy and chummy in this dingy little place hidden in plain site. It must have been contagious because we felt the same way when we got settled in! We got a variety of breakfast items at the table...Coffee, tea, Omelette, Pancakes, Eggs scrambled, eggs over easy...Everything was good and all of us were pleased with the Marvel Ranch and will certainly stop back next time we are going thru reading! I still go there from time to time, either by myself or with my friend Wanna. I usually do their breakfasts, the French Toast and their cottage fries are to die for. Nice little community hub of an eatery. This establishment serves breakfast all day too. The coffee comes in an assortment of different mugs and the sodas come in portable drinking cups which is nice. The food wasn't too salty or sweet. First let me start off by saying I don't EVER have the desire to write a review about anywhere let alone DOWNLOAD AN APP - & create an account just to be able to write the review . I've been going to Marvel Ranch since I moved to Reading PA. I always thought the food was decent for the most part.. you literally can't go wrong with the breakfast mini mess. I would know cause I order from Marvel almost every single day since I work in downtown. On any usual day there's a grumpy older woman at the front taking orders, and cashing customers out. I never mind her grumpiness because 9/10 she's running around like a crazy person and let's face it - it's hard to deal w other humans and their attitudes. Some other days there's a girl there in her late maybe 20's early 30's - she's not too friendly but gets you in and out in a timely manner. & then other days there's a young lady there who must be in her 20's working the counter & sometimes serving. She's usually wearing a gym headband and oversized sweater / jacket and wears glasses. Any who - this morning as usual I take a walk down to Marvel and on my way I call to check the daily specials. They announce on the phone not 1 not 2 but 3 soup options, which is what I wanted to order. I arrive at the restaurant, I stand in line to order when it's my turn I'm not greeted at all. I just receive a blank look from the gym headband girl asking " what you wanna order?...." I ask her where the usual white board is that usually states the specials for soup she states its not up yet ( k fair enough.) So I tell her I wanted soup, she says since the white board isn't up with the soup options there is none.. Although I had literally just called the restaurant and heard the options on the phone. I didn't fuss or fight instead I ordered 2 mini messes , a coffee (which always has cream and sugar) and a hot chocolate. Headband girl walks to the back to put my order In as another employee walks to the counter to give someone their food. I ask this employee "do you guys have soup?" she's OPENS THE FRIDGE right under the register and mentions the 3 soup options I heard over the phone. When headband girl comes back to the front I tell her I want to order the steak soup and she can cancel one of the mini messes. She literally SUCKS HER TEETH & goes on to say "you're really gonna make me cancel the order after she already started making it?" Squints her eyes at me and turns around to cancel the mini mess. She goes on to serve my soup and throws it in a paper bag. When I look in the bag- there is no spoon, crackers or napkins in the bag and there's soup residue all over the side of the bowl.. I waitressed for years and presentation is EVERYTHING! At this point I ask her to speak to a manager and she says "oh you mean the one busy cooking?" I say "please get me the manager because your customer service is unacceptable. This girl legit responds "you wanna come in here yelling about soup" At this point I've about had it, yelling!? She walks to the manager and instead of telling her I wanna speak to her she goes on to explain her side of what happened. Of course the lady who told me the soup specials wanted to chime in saying I had an attitude when I asked about the soup . Anywho clearly the manager didn't care too much because she turned around looked at me but NOT ONCE made it a point to come speak to me. Her son tho did make an attempt to fix the issue & look into it. & shout out to the server who works there and at the PIKE cafe / her service is always pleasant and professional SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO APOLOGIZED FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. This may seem a bit excessive or dramatic but when you tolerate " okay service " & continue spending your money at a place for years you expect respect & AT LEAST empathetic people managing the place. All this could of been avoided had she just looked in the fridge - it's not like THE SOUP IS MADE FRESH IN THE MORNING!! NEEDLESS TO SAY MY COFFEE WAS BLACK & the hot chocolate tasted like water so my co worked threw it out. I will not be spending money nor recommending the marvel ranch anymore . read more

Stopped in for a quick take out lunch. I had a BLT on Texas toast. It was tasty but if you are going to use Texas toast for the bread, please make sure that there is more than enough BACON to accommodate the thick "breading". Charge more and add another 6 full pieces of bacon and that now could be called...."the best in town".....I also tried a small cold macaroni salad,which I thought I would be in for a "treat" as it is made on premise.....and it was lacking in the mayo dept. thus making it dry and a disappointment. I placed an order and one of the thing was onion rings. We got all of our food but the onion rings. I called and had to argue w/ the woman that we did not get them bc she kept saying they were in the bag. She finally agreed to send them with another order they were delivering to my work. That order showed up and no onion rings. I called back and spent 20 minutes arguing with somebody on the phone. The owner was in the back telling the woman I was on the phone with what to say. Whatever you do don't eat at this place. My wife had chili for lunch and ended up in the ER about an hour later. A couple people that day had the same thing and had the same reaction. Owner found out and was concerned enough to ask the people that got sick to come in and meet with him.
