I returned expecting to have an impression made for my implant tooth, only to be blindsided with charges they claimed dated back to **2022**. These charges were never clearly communicated to me when the services were provided. Had I been informed at the time, I could have worked with my dental insurance while the claims were still timely. Because these charges were presented years later, I lost any meaningful opportunity to seek insurance reimbursement. What made an already upsetting situation even worse was the way I was treated by the billing representative. From the moment I walked into the office, I felt I was treated with hostility instead of professionalism. I was met with an unfriendly expression and immediately handed a stack of billing papers, making me feel as though I had intentionally failed to pay a large debt. Rather than taking the time to explain the situation or answer my questions respectfully, I felt dismissed and judged. When I told the office that I intended to file a complaint with the Florida Board of Dentistry regarding the surprise billing, I later received a text message stating that **my demeanor was disrespectful**. I believe patients have every right to be upset when they are presented with unexpected bills years after treatment--especially when that delay prevents them from seeking insurance coverage. Expressing legitimate concerns should not be used to shift the focus away from the underlying billing issues. This experience destroyed my trust in this practice. Patients deserve honesty, transparency, timely billing, and respectful treatment. He wanted me to see an oral surgeon and I thought I would try Jax Emergency after my husband recommended them to me. Took his time and used rocking persistence- something most dentists do not posses anymore with the rush to high priced cosmetic dentistry procedures. I worked for years chair-side in dental offices in my younger years I can really appreciate application of great basic practices as well as talking a patient through the procedure calmly. I also appreciate in this day and age of greed in the medical industry to not have the price be the motivator to the doctor and practice. I like that the actions were whatever was best for me and my situation. Throughout my interactions with him, he consistently carried himself in a manner that was dismissive, condescending, and lacking in basic courtesy. At no point did I feel that he viewed my concerns as valid or that he approached his responsibilities with professionalism. Instead, he behaved as though providing care was a favor rather than his duty. I entrusted him with redoing a crown specifically because he assured me that the result would match the original. Had I known this would not be the case, I had no issue returning to Dallas to have the work completed by the original provider. When I informed him that the color of the replacement crown was incorrect, he responded with an inappropriate and insulting remark, stating that my teeth were "yellow" and that the crown matched. In 42 years, I have never had a dental professional, or anyone, make such a comment. In fact, I routinely receive compliments on how beautiful my teeth are. I conducted myself with professionalism to avoid jeopardizing the license and career I have worked extremely hard to build. However, I will not subject myself to further mistreatment. I will not return to Dr. Rodriguez for any future care, and I intend to file a formal complaint regarding his conduct and the quality of treatment I received. I do not want him involved in my dental care in any capacity moving forward. I'm glad I was live streaming the whole appointment.
