They were expert in moving our baby grand piano and our 60" square dining room table'# vintage sofas. We have lots of glass decorative items and everything was packed to avoid breakage. Second time using Marvin's moving, and things have changed. They now charge $25 for the roll of plastic they use to wrap furniture (wasn't the case before). Secondly, you can no longer pay via check. You'll have to go get cash from an ATM, or be willing to pay an extra 5% to use a credit card. They need to either accept personal checks or charge 0 fee for using a card. Having to drive to an ATM in the middle of a move, is not fun. read more

What a difference a couple years makes...or maybe it's just getting the right crew. When we had a change in work circumstances and sold our home in Tomball to move to a temporary apartment in Sugar Land, it was a no brainer to book Marvin's again since they were so great the first time. Since we were moving things into an apartment and to storage in a garage next to the apartment, we chose to go with 4 men and a large truck. We had pretty much everything packed and labeled for the apartment or storage. How did they go wrong? Well...first they arrived a little late, but we can work with that....but then they were slow (this move took just about 8 hours rather than less than 5 like last time, and last time we had fewer guys). They didn't disassemble things or pack well, so everything didn't make it on the truck, causing Hubby and I to have to make 6 more trips with cars to finish moving. Then they got lost due to their GPS on the way to the apartment, and wanted to charge us for the hour they were lost. Then they got boxes meant for storage in the apartment and things we needed in the apartment in storage. When we went to get the boxes we needed out of the garage, what do we see but many boxes marked "Fragile" and "Crystal" stored upside down and on the bottom of piles, getting smashed in-as we are not going to unpack all these boxes until we are in our next home, I have no idea if anything is broken. Finally, we found a seat cushion for our outside chair sliced open (they had put it on upside down to hide it) and the back of a dining table chair broken (see pictures). After calling Three Men Movers, and getting an obscene quote for our little one bedroom apartment. I decided to search around. Marvin was be far one of the most reasonably priced (almost half the price of Three Men Movers) and he had great reviews on Yelp. The website clearly states the rates, which is great because I do not have time to email or call companies...I love how everything is up front. I confirmed with Marvin the day before the time of the move and our price quote. Marvin was very responsive and even texted me to confirm. The day of the move, the movers actually called 30 minutes before just to tell us they were on their way. They arrived 10 minutes EARLY! They were extremely professional and got right to work. They were very careful with all our furniture, and even wrapped our "cheap" furniture. Once they arrived to our house, they were very careful with placement of the boxes and furniture, making sure they didn't scuff up the walls to our brand new home. They even took off their shoes when they got inside. I would highly recommend Marvin Moving company to all my friends and family. read more

We have used Marvin's Moving twice (2014 and Dec 2022) and have been VERY pleased both times with the move and the reasonable cost. The recent move was a 200-mile move from west San Antonio to Houston. Marvin and his team were excellent: arrived on time (had to leave Houston before 6 am), loaded the contents of a 3,000 sq ft house into two BIG trucks. They took great care with boxes, furniture, lamps, art, and patio furniture. They disassembled furniture as needed, wrapped everything, and reassembled on arrival. The trip and unloading went very well and all was done by 8 pm. Just a great job - I highly recommend Marvin! read more

We used Marvin's moving & delivery twice in the past and had no issues. On 6/23 we scheduled over the phone to move 7/1 and he told us to text that number with all of the information on our move. He never responded but he had done the same thing last time so we didn't think much of it. We spent the entire week packing our apartment. Today, (7/1) we text him at 9am to confirm our appointment at 2pm and never heard back. We began calling him around 11am and all of our calls went to voicemail. Around 12pm our calls started going directly to voicemail without ringing. We began calling other companies when they didn't show up at all. We are furious as every single thing is packed and all of our furniture is disassembled. We've now had to scramble to find someone that can move us and of course the soonest available isn't until tomorrow and our lease is ending today. I absolutely would not recommend this company. They did move our items quickly, but they didn't allow us to pay with a credit card as advertised. I had exactly the amount of cash owed and they told me to go to the atm to get their tip. When I couldn't pull out any more cash that day I was told they'd come back tomorrow. They were waiting outside our house when we got home from work and came up to the front door the second we pulled up. Very creepy and unprofessional. There were also glass items broken in two boxes and we are completely missing one box. They refuse to compensate or accept any liability even though one of the men admitted dropping a box. Use someone else! Update- 4/28/15- Just in case showing up at my house wasn't creepy enough, the owner Marvin has now been stalking me online and trying to add me on facebook and linked in. I've only ever used movers once before. I've moved myself in and out of dorms, apartments and homes over 10 times since 2003, so I figured I didn't need the help as long as I had good friends around. Well the time finally came that my friends said ENOUGH! and I had to hire movers to get me from Spring to the Galleria. Alas, woe is me, yadda yadda. After perusing yelp*, I found Marvin's and was impressed by the effusive reviews and devout loyalty to this company. I am pleased to report that it is well-deserved praise! I had originally scheduled my move for a Friday, but the week of my move-in the apartment informed me I could get in a day earlier. I called Marvin's on a Tuesday to ask if they could do Thursday instead, and without hesitation, they agreed. They showed up and maneuvered their huge truck in an awkward cul de sac, and parked it on the street instead of the driveway because the truck was dripping something (how considerate! seriously!) Granted, I had a studio-amount of stuff, which is to say, not much. But those two beefcakes had my crap wrapped and loaded in 40 minutes. They made the drive from Spring to the Galleria and parked exactly where I'd described, and started unloading immediately. Like, not even a quick breather, which I definitely would have taken if I was charging hourly. Then they unloaded and carried my stuff UP stairs, through a narrow hallway, and put everything right where I asked. When I tell you these guys are fast, I am not joking. They moved me out, drove 40 minutes, and moved me in without breaking the 3 hour mark. The grand total? $223. That's INCLUDING a trip fee (Spring is far) and a materials fee (they wrapped my furniture). Needless to say, I tipped big. Use them. read more

I'm currently contacting the owner, I will update my rating as soon as this is resolved to my satisfaction. And it's true that they change the terms once they get here. I found Marvin's Moving when I was researching a well-priced mover to move me to a new apartment complex (2nd floor to 4th floor). Marvin's was competitively priced and had such good reviews on yelp that I had to give them a try. I love that you can just text them, which made confirming my appointment a breeze. The day of the move, they called and asked if they could actually come earlier since they finished a job early, which I can't complain about! The three man crew arrived promptly and were pretty fast - they got all my stuff out of the apartment in under an hour. Moving the furniture into the new apartment took a little longer but they were still done with the full move in under 2.5 hours. A big plus was that some of my dining table chairs had some screws that had fallen out that I couldn't get to stay in for the life of me. They quickly fixed that problem and now my chairs feel as stable as they were when I bought them! I will definitely use them again for any moves I have in the future and recommend them to my friends. read more

Last year when I moved, I used Angie's list to recommend a mover. They showed up hours late because they went to the wrong house and then asked if I wanted to wait for the other person to be moved as they had already started loading! This time I used Yelp. I got quotes from quite a few movers in town, and most of the bigger names were outrageously high. I love how Marvin's has the prices online so I don't have to call and waste my time, and the prices are very reasonable. We moved two 1-bedroom apartments on the 3rd and 2nd floors to a 1-bedroom on a 1st floor. When I booked my move, Marvin was very friendly. He let me include the extra stop with no fee because it was on the way. No other company would do that. In his confirmation email he said, "You won't be disappointed." And we weren't! I was scheduled for a 8:30-9:00 AM move on a Saturday. Carlos and his team showed up just after 9 after calling to say they were on the way, and we started the clock at 9:15. I was astonished at how quickly the 3 men moved my furniture out! They were much faster than any other movers I've used and got all my things down 3 flights of very narrow stairs in under an hour. The whole move took only 4 hours, which was exactly what I was hoping for. All three men were very nice and constantly made sure we were okay with what they were doing. They also laid down blankets in the new place at our request to keep the carpet clean. Best of all, I never felt like I needed to check in on them, and I never wondered if they were taking a long break or wasting time. I will certainly recommend Carlos's team to my friends and family. We were so happy with the move and tipped them all on their way out. My only advice for using these movers is to pack your valuables very well! They moved very fast and some of the fragile boxes ended up upside down. Nothing was broken, but I'm glad we moved our TVs and electronics the night before. I rarely ever put online ratings, but Marvin's really did a great job. My girlfriend and I were moving across town, and I saw the reviews and decided to give them a shot. The movers were scheduled at 2pm, but called to say he would be late because of a previous job running over. They arrived around 3:45, and were extremely quick. My old apartment was on the second floor, and they moved it all with a smile down the steps. They moved everything, drove downtown to the new place, and moved it all into the new place, all within 4 hours. Not to mention, the new place was on the 4th floor, up the elevator! I will be recommending Marvin's to anyone seeking movers, and I will be using them the next time I move! My only gripe is that they say they take credit cards online, but when they show up, it's cash only, so make sure you get cash out! read more

I had never used movers before, so I really had no idea how to find good ones. Thank god for Yelp, because these guys totally lived up to their 5 star reputation! Seriously, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. They showed up on time, were friendly, and very efficient. Nothing was damaged or broken. I also loved that I could book them online. (I'm not much of a phone guy.) During the drive from my old apartment to the new one, we got stuck in some heavy traffic. The movers changed lanes, pulled up next to me, yelled "Follow us!", and led me past the traffic. Very cool. On a side note, a couple of reviewers had indicated that these guys do not take credit cards. But they do take them, per Marvin himself. (I definitely get the impression that cash is their preferred monetary medium.) I ultimately paid cash because I didn't want to pay the 5% surcharge for credit cards. Great movers! We needed someone to load a moving truck we rented to move to another city, and they did an EXCELLENT job. They showed up on time, were nice, and worked quickly. They also brought shrink wrap to protect our furniture (and used it along with the moving pads we had), and packed the truck perfectly. (Not one thing was broken or damaged in any way!) I used them last month to move my 3bd home. Honestly I have a lot of stuff (my old house had 2 living rooms) so when they couldn't get all the items in the truck I wasn't surprised. They communicated fully with me and asked me to make some decisions when it came to what I wanted them to take and what I was able to get on my own. We prioritized the furniture and left the smaller boxes. They managed expectations well and told me that after surveying the items that it was going to take "awhile". It ended up being 8 hours vs 6 hours was quoted over the phone. I had Jonathan's crew. He and his guys were great. He spoke fluent English and Spanish so there were no communication issues with me or his guys. As they show in their photos, they wrap everything up in blankets and plastic. If you have extra random stuff that doesn't go into a box they grab it up and put it in their "chowder" box. Everything came off the truck in good shape...I only lost one small punch cup in the move. Helpful hints when working with them: -If you have a lot of stuff, ask for the biggest truck and for 4-5 guys. It might go faster. -Ask for wardrobe boxes for your hanging clothes. They were able to move mine, but I think throwing them in wardrobe boxes might have been more efficient. -Don't be afraid to ask them to put extra wrap on items. They were happy to comply. I use Yelp ALL of the time to find food to doctors and rarely follow up with a review. Sorry Yelp. However, I just had Marvin and his crew help me with a "move" and it was a phenomenal experience! My daughter is updating her room to a teen room and we just need beds, couches, chairs and other bulky and heavy item moved from different rooms in our home. I reached out to Marvin via a internet request and he was very prompt and scheduled me right away. All of this in spite He was responsive to my questions when I followed up with a call and flexible as I had to move my schedule around the day of service. Marvin personally showed up promptly and got started right away. He was flexible to my changes and even when I had to make changes to my changes. He was very kind and didn't just stand around and watch but helped move things along as well. They all were very careful with my furniture and patient as well. He even gave me suggestions on what would look best as I was exasperated with the moving process! I have moved 8 times and most of these were corporate moves. I have never had such great service and attention to detail. I thought he would try to linger and make the process longer since it was a home move but he didn't. Having to move twice in two months (one from out of state and one within the city), I was not enthusiastic about having to move all over again. This time, all by myself since my fiancee was in the middle of midterms in full swing. Hence, Marvin's Moving to the rescue! Jose and his crew of 2 other guys came at the prearranged time, ready to go. I read about the extra charge for cellophane from other Yelpers but I didn't mind paying the $25 because I have a brand new white mattress, white writing table, and leather sofa that needed extra protection. When I spoke with Marvin, he was upfront about the pricing, gave me an approximate amount on the total charges, options for payment, what to expect during the move, and whom would show up at my door. I appreciated this! We were moved out and into our new home in 3 hours. The guys worked quickly, efficiently, very professionally, and were polite. Our home is on the third floor with no elevator access to fit the furniture so I really appreciated the good attitude in spite of it.
