Great experience from start to finish. I put off getting new glasses since moving to town because it always seemed like such a chore back home. Marx was completely different, from start to finish everything was easy. Making appointment over the phone was quick and person I spoke to was helpful and informative. Front end staff was fast and pleasant at check-in. Exam process was thorough and moved at a pace that seemed quick without being rushed. Gal who went over my prescription and helped me pick my first pair of progressive lenses took the time to explain all the differences and helped me find frames that I didn't hate, which is sometimes a struggle for me. Time quoted for pick-up on completed glasses was accurate and pickup was fast and easy. I honestly have never had such a smooth process, they were certainly a bit more expensive than the providor VSP was pushing me towards but I feel like the difference in pricing was more than made up with the quality of the people and the finished product at the end. read more

This is going to be long but I have several instances of this business being unprofessional and unethical. My first experience with Marx Optical was due to my previous doctor retiring. Before my appointment my dermatologist discovered a melanoma cancer spot on my back and recommended that I see an eye doctor and dentist to see if there were any spots on my eyes or gums. My first appointment was to make the doctor aware of my situation and have my eyes examined for melanoma. I did a full eye exam and was asked about contacts. I told the doctor that I didn't need contacts because I just had an exam 3 months prior at my old doctor and had plenty and was just there for the melanoma. He fitted me for different contact because he said the brand I had worn for 10 years had been discontinued. After wearing the contacts I did not like them and after doing some Google research and calling around I found out my old brand had not been discontinued. I assume they lied about this to get me in a more expensive brand. I called the office and told them the contacts were uncomfortable and I would stick with my old brand and that I had plenty of contacts on hand and did not need to place an order. Fast forward 9 months and I am now out of contacts. I call the office and the lady who answers the phone tells me it had been less than a year since my prescription and I should be in the window to order. I get a call back from a gentleman named Ethan a few minutes later and he tells me that since I never got fitted for the brand I had worn for 10 years, that they lied to me about being discontinued, that they would not honor my prescription and the office manager told me it went against ethical standards for the medical industry if they filled my prescription and I would need to schedule an exam. After fuming for awhile I realized that they had emailed me my prescription for insurance purposes a few months back, so with my prescription on hand I called multiple other suppliers and they all told me it would be no problem to fill my prescription based on my situation. I was told multiple lies by multiple people and find it sad that this company handles their business that is supposed to provide medical help to people so unethically. The doctor had the worst personality and was condescending towards any questions asked and generally treated you like you were stupid. I can't remember his name but he is a skinny bald red headed guy so I would advise staying away from him. Also, they took advantage of my 86 year old grandma by making her pay in full for glasses that her insurance covered half the cost of and then it took months and repeated calls and visits to to their office to get reimbursement. read more

I had a wonderful experience this past week with Marx Optical in Cullman. I'd been postponing having my eyes checked, both because my optometrist had retired, and because of doubts about my insurance paying. Marx checked on insurance, and was able to assure me that yes, it would pay. Then I saw Dr. Morton, who was friendly and professional. She told me honestly what she'd seen in my eyes, which included some diabetic retinopathy, but not bad, and beginning cataracts - still not bad. The new lenses are WONDERFUL. I hadn't realized quite how poor my vision had become. I got separate reading glasses, and distant vision glasses with Transition lenses which incorporate the new technology of polarization. Oh WOW. Love them both! I'd been hesitant to get the Transition lenses, because of a bad results many years ago. These are an entirely new experience, become dark enough to be effective sunglasses, and I love them! Highly recommend Marx Optical and Dr. Morton. read more
