Finally had a chance to try this place. Didn't know much about the chain other than that it's somewhat a competitor to Popeyes. Parking is available on Main, as well as the side streets. The interior has some tables, but can get a bit full. Staff were okay. No complaints. To be honest, the chicken burgers are superior to the likes of McDonald's, but not as good as Popeyes. Thinking it might have to do with the sauce. Overall the food is okay, but personally I'd prefer Popeyes. read more

Best biscuits, worst chicken. Maybe if they rebranded this place as a biscuit place that also served chicken on the side..... Look, it's hard to mess up fried chicken. But, in the current landscape, the competition is stiff. And, Mary Brown's is just not up to the challenge. Their fried chicken does not have anything that makes them stand out. KFC has their 11 herbs and spices recipe. Jollibee's has their secret marinade and crunchy batter. Churches serves big pieces of juicy meat. Popeye's has a 12-hour marination process in a spicy, Cajun-style brine. Mary Browns? I would not be able to tell it apart in a police line-up. Might as well call it John Doe's chicken since it is "unidentifiable". Nothing exceptional about it. We were given a huge serving of Mojo potato fries which were decent but could have used seasoning. Gravy was good, and at least added flavor to the otherwise bland chicken. But, the biscuits were amazing. Soft, fluffy and with a hint of sweetness. Best of all, they did not disintegrate upon biting, nor did they suck all the moisture from your mouth like some biscuits do. I wonder if I can just order biscuits next time. read more

This review is based on my visit back in July 2025. Every year in july, there's a fried chicken day deal where mary browns has a special of 2 pieces of chicken and taters (potato wedges) for $4.99. In fact, since 2021, the price for this annual deal was always been exactly the same. I went to mary brown's on main street around 11:45am, 45 minutes after it opened. There were a few customers hanging around waiting for their orders. I was able to order at the counter but wait time was about 15 minutes for my order to be ready. 15 minutes is not too long in my opinion compared to the 30 minutes from my last visit during this special day. As for the food, the chicken was a good size! it's bigger than KFC's laughably small pigeon sized chicken pieces. They aren't big sized like church's chicken, but they are an average medium sized chicken. I got a thigh and a drumstick, the same pieces featured on the ad. The chicken and wedges tasted great in my opinion. They were evenly seasoned but not overly salty. The meat was cooked perfectly. The wedges were not overly dry. They weren't too crispy, but soft and well seasoned, as wedges should be. Portion wise, it's a good portion for a lunch for most people. I didn't order the spicy version this time and went for the regular version as i added my own chilli sauce dip at home. But my friend who ordered the spicy version had no complaints. When i left, i saw at least 4-5 tables already enjoying their mary browns chicken deal at a nearby picnic benches outside which they bought earlier so this deal was pretty popular! Compared to my last visit during this special deal, the wait time this time was much shorter and the staff was pleasant to deal with. The place was not swamped with 20+ people inside the small restaurant waiting for their order. The staff thanked me and greeted me this time which is uncommon in busy fast food restaurants nowadays in my experience. Order early for a less stressful experience and shorter wait times because this deal is super popular especially around the evening, based on past visits. Gotta give them 5 stars based on this visit, mainly because of their delicious chicken and wedges at a very reasonable price. Mary brown's staff, if you're reading this review, please don't ever raise the price of this deal, it's already at a very reasonable price even if only for just a day. read more

Had never been to a Mary Brown's but decided to stop by after seeing the promotion for the Batter's Box on TV during a Jays game. Six pieces of chicken, two biscuits, wedges, gravy and a sweet habanero sauce...advertised for $19.99. That is a lot of food. Stopped by this location just before noon mid week for take out. This location is relatively new and very clean which is always a plus. Ordered the Batter's Box and the attendant said the chicken would be 2 minutes. 20 minutes later, they completed the order. We got home and opened the box to see that there was no sweet habanero sauce. I called the store and was advised it was the customers responsibility to request the sauce. Whaaat? It is part of the promotion (and on the photos) and at no point did the person taking my order mention anything about this. The chicken was actually good as were the biscuits. Would have been nice to try the sweet habanero sauce. And this location charged $22.99 for the Batter's Box promotion. It was not a positive food experience and with customer service like this, I have no plans to return. read more

Tried this today (international fried chicken day) and it wasn't bad but I've had better. For 4.99 plus wedges it was a good deal. I don't think I be happy to pay more than that. The service was good. The staff are friendly. We ordered the spicy chicken but I think they only put a spicy powder on it to make it spicy. Taste was ok. The chicken doesn't really taste deep fried - more like air fried. The wedges were bland and dry. Overall I'm glad I tried it today but not sure I would pay regular price for this chicken in the future. read more

I enjoyed the $9.99+tax meal, chicken tasted fresh and the potatoes were truly local. Great thing was all items were not chemical-felt at all. I think they were on the healthier side of fast food practices - using fresh oil, less hormones grown chicken and fresh local potatoes. I've been here a couple of times now and I think it's pretty good. I ordered off their app both times. The first time I ordered half and half chicken and the hot was really spicy. Dunno if it's supposed to be like that or if it was extra spicy that day. The next time I just ordered regular. The chicken is nice and crispy but could use a touch of salt. The fries were a bit soggy, the potato wedges were better, the gravy and biscuits were good. The service is ok. There is street parking out front and on the side street. Since it's not really in my neighborhood don't know how often I'll come here but if I'm in the area and I'm craving chicken I would come here for sure.......... read more

I found they had a promo deal (2 pieces of fried chicken and taters) at $4.99, so I ordered it. I also ordered 6 biscuits as I love them and like to eat them with jam. I asked for takeout. The fried chicken and taters were still good after 15 mins. The fried chicken seemed to be fresh, crispy and juicy. Lol I felt it was eating a healthy version of fried chicken. I am not sure how exactly to describe it but it was different from Church's Chicken, KFC and others. Of course their seasoning and flavour were different. The taters were a bit on the salty side but they tasted good. I would like to try their fries next time. After I paid, the staff asked me to fill out a survey online, so I could get 15% off on my next order. I did it, so I could get 15% off next time. The restaurant is right on Main Street. I prefer to park in the residential area and walk to the restaurant. They also have banana desserts. I might try it next time. It seems to be very interesting I never had that before. I've had Mary Brown's in Kamloops prior to this visit and liked it better. Here, the staff was just not trained, full-stop. 3 errors. The chicken itself (spicy) was good,.. maybe in my top 5 for Vancouver, but everything else about the food and experience was flat. The space is odd and though some fast food places can have charm, this one does not. I won't be going out of my way to come here again but would consider buying chicken pieces only for a take-away order. read more

Mary Brown's recently opened in December 2021 near Main Street and 49th. Small interior with limited seating, seems mainly for takes out. Tried the Original Big Mary's friend chicken combo. Comes with taters and a can of pop. Nice and crunchy sandwich and fluffy bun. The taters were well seasoned and didn't need ketucup. read more

Way too salty Mary Brown, sorry! I tried this chicken joint on my way home and I was excited to see what it was like and where it stacked on my chicken ranking. Unfortunately not high as it was so dang salty, which was overwhelming the entire chicken flavour. I wouldn't get chicken from here again which is too bad! I was actually heading into the salad store next-door but then saw the fried chicken. I was actually quite hungry and so I went into MB instead and tried their original chicken burger with buffalo sauce. Turned out to be pretty good. The chicken and the sauce are quite good. I feel the lettuce can be a little fresher and the bun a bit warmer but otherwise it was fulfilling meal. I will come back and try to fried chicken next time. read more

I recently tried Mary Brown's and thought it was just ok. I had the Big Mary chicken sandwich and poutine. The pickle was on top of the bun, making the bun soft and mushy and the chicken was barely seasoned, almost flavourless. The poutine was made with the wedge potatoes and was not salted/seasoned well. I wouldn't recommend it to others. The meal was mediocre. read more

Just got serviced the least crispy fried chicken of my life. The drumstick skin was more flaccid than crispy.

I ordered a 2 piece combo; Spicy. The chicken breading was soggy on the interior of the seemingly crispy skin..had the texture of flem...The meat was tough and flavorless..as if i were eating some false, rubber, chicken substitute. Fortunately the fries were good. All the workers seemed un-organized and were only partially wearing their masks..in addition to eating in the back while working in plain view..Not professional. Food was disappointing. Kitchen staff performance was disappointing. Will not eat here again. Better off going to Churches on 41st. PS.
