I got referred here for a root canal and I was completely terrified due to past experience. However, Dr. Chien and her staff were entirely so friendly and helpful. I loved how Dr. Chien explained what she would be doing prior to the procedure, and afterwards she would reiterate in detail what she did and show me the before/after pictures. The office was clean and had a soothing atmosphere. The music was relaxing, the chair was comfortable, and it felt almost as if I wasn't at the dentist. I was sent over as a referral, I needed a root canal. I was terrified! The thought of root-canal surgery is already awful, everyone I spoke to about my situation gave me horrible experiences. So I came in with scary thoughts. Turns out Dr. Chien is so good at her job I felt absolutely nothing! I put on some music laid back in the chair, and she worked her magic. At one point I was scared I would fall asleep more than the surgery. I'm so happy everything went smoothly. Not just from the surgery but from the front desk, to the nurses that took my x-ray. I am a general dentist who can really appreciate the technical skills, thorough detailed work, and compassionate care that Dr Mary Chien provides her patients. When I had a patient with a root canal that looked complex, or difficult to diagnose, or needed a CBCT or 3D xray ($50K machine) to fully see the problem, Dr. Chien is the endodontist or root canal specialist to see. First and foremost, she places patient comfort and communication at the top of her priorities. All root canals are different, shaped different, have 1-6 canals, and can be like clogged pipes, difficult to clean out, disinfect, and widen to fill properly. Specialty care is about 25-30% more in cost due to the nature of the difficult work. She has specialized equipment such as a video microscope to take pictures to find and see down the various canal holes. Her 3 D xrays can find cracks and other problems that may in fact rule out having a root canal. She is the only endodontist my family will see and she has seen my wife and friends. read more

I was referred to Dr. Chien by my dentist after I had some complications from an old root canal from years ago. Turned out, the root canal got infected somehow and I was having bone loss. I immediately scheduled an appt with Dr. Chien's office and they were able to squeeze me in. Dr. Chien is extremely thorough and explains things really well so that I know exactly what is going to happen. She spent a long time cleaning out the area to make sure she got everything and it took a good 2 hours! I've never been to a doctor that spends that much time on a patient. She even texts her patients to make sure everything is ok and when I had a chip on that tooth, she got back to me so quick even though it was a holiday weekend! She has state of the art equipment and she is very skilled at her craft. I still have a few more visits before my tooth is completely done, but I have no doubt that she will be able to get my tooth back to normal! I had a lot of difficult work done on my molars by Dr Chien, and in addition I came in with many past experiences of dental trauma I had over the years, but becoming a patient in this office felt like a therapeutic and relaxing journey all in one. Everyone was kind, compassionate, understanding (re. the past dental trauma, my allergy to certain anesthetics and such) and very helpful. The results of her work have been long lasting, as well, so I recommend her to all-- everyone who is looking for high levels of expertise, quality and comfort. The high level of expertise, helpfulness, emotional support, as well as modern medical equipment in this office, create a rather unique microcosm conducive to healing of the body-mind. I honestly feel it should be copied by other professionals: An environment that makes one feel reassured with its immaculate cleanliness and efficiency, and also designed for your comfort as the patient- both physical and emotional. The work Dr Chien did on my molars was complicated, but my recovery was super smooth and fast, enhanced by this unique environment that eliminated all stress to minimum and was conducive to my recovery. Dr Chien was extremely gentle, and at the same time very efficient, and consistently so. She worked with an amazing precision and accuracy every time I saw her. I was very grateful to see how concerned she was about my well-being and very attentive in terms of my body's specific needs and how it was responding to different anesthetics she tried (result: NO PAIN whatsoever, which is not always easy to achieve for someone like me, with a red hair gene and all the past trauma). I hope there will be more truly therapeutic offices like this one, and I can imagine that most dentists' offices will be like that in the future, designed not only for the professional work, but also for the comfort of the patient, which enhances the body's abilty to recover. The fact that I am taking time out write a review for someone who poked around in my mouth with sharp tools and drilled my tooth for a root canal, should say something. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and safe. Scratch that, from the moment I called to make an appointment. The receptionist Roxanna was extremely helpful and found a day and time for me to get in right away before I flew out of town for a conference. They sent me paperwork to fill out online so when I arrived, there were only a few things I needed to complete. Roxanna even texted back and forth with me when I was having some challenges with my insurance company. When I walked in for my appointment, even though we had never met, the Roxanna said, "Hello Joy, we've been waiting for you." She had me fill out a few more things and then escorted me to the back. There, I met Naomi, Dr. Chien's assistant. She helped me get comfortable and joked around with me. When my blood pressure was a little high, she asked, "Are you nervous?" I had to reply yes. She just kept chatting with me to keep my mind off of things. When Dr. Chien entered, she didn't get right to work. She too, took some time to get to know me a little bit. She joked around with me and made me feel at ease. When she took the x-rays, she showed me the results and outlined all of the issues my tooth and gums were having. She even color-coded everything so that I would understand what was going on. She explained the procedure step by step and potential results, and explained procedures that might be necessary under certain circumstances. Let me just say, I hate Novocaine. Not novocaine in and of itself, but that damn needle in my gums. But she somehow made it no big thing. She listened to my body language and was gentle, and all of a sudden (well, 90 minutes later), I was done. She gave me instructions on how to manage the pain. When my first attempt was not successful, she gave me more advice. It helped. I was really sore at first, but after taking her advice the pain subsided, and I was more comfortable. She even called me in the evening to check in. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mary Chien. read more

I am unable to doubt of Dr Chien is a very detail dentist. She is even know how much they can claim back from insurance company and how much the patient has to pay. I never seen a dentist to talk to the price to the patient. If you are rich and doesn't care how much you have to pay, then definitely she is good because she takes time to talk to you. My husband has root canal infection and she was referred by my dentist. First day we ent there she already talked about the 3D machine to see more about his root canal because the traditional x Ray is unable to see clearly which you have to pay $200 which our insurance won't cover and she already discounted for us because original Ly she will charge $400. Then after my husband agree to pay for $200 by our own and took that 3D XRay, she started talking about the inflection of his root canal and what she needs to do. She was exactly told us how much my insurance will pay and how much we have pay. She claimed all my husband's annual maximum benefit from the insurance which is $1750 per person and we still have to pay another $204 from our own pocket. I tried to get the discount from her and she told me no. You won't even able to get a dollar discount, it has to be exactly $204 from us. So that means this root canal infection they charged more than over $2000 and I think is really pricey. Now my husband has to wait for next year to do cleaning or another stuff since he has no money left over for this year from the insurance. If you don't care about the money, I think she is ok. read more

In December of 2018 I was notified by my regular dentist that I would be needing my first root canal. This is not a big deal to someone that does not suffer from extreme dental anxiety but in my case, this situation created major mental drama. Therefore, I searched for an Endodontic specialist who would not only have formidable technical skills and a state-of-the-art facility but, who would also be possessed of a kind heart and a sense of empathy for dental patients with extreme dental phobias. For this reason, I chose Dr. Chien and the staff of Hacienda Endodontics and I couldn't be happier with that decision. Dr Chien took the time to listen to me and truly took note of my specific situation and needs. She offered a course of treatment that would minimize my fears and minimize the changes to the tooth and maintain my mouth's dental structures and integrity. As the procedure began, she suggested and prescribed a calming medication and only proceeded one step at a time, what she refers to as "baby steps". Ultimately, my procedure was completed in three visits. In total, around 4.5 hours in the chair. A major component of the service that Hacienda Endodontics provides is supplied by Dr. Chien's wonderful staff. Salena consistently stays in contact with patients and provides follow-up care and Dayami is an excellent surgical technician who helps make the process seamless and efficient. Endodontics i just started to go to. So far so good.

Maybe Dr. Chien is an excellent DDS MS., but the office personnel to handle the office's procedure is very sloppy and not agreeable. On April 24, 2019, I had tooth pain, and my dentist suggests me to go to the downstairs DDS to get a consultation that I might need a root canal before they can make some improvement on my tooth. I went there, and the front desk personnel asked me to fill out from her computer regarding my information. I told them I was a referral by the upstairs dentist and to get a consultation regarding what do I need root canal service. The lady just told me, "Yes," no problem we will do that for you, but she never mentioned how much consultation fee will be or is there any fee I will need to pay. After Dr. Chien checked my tooth and took Xray, she told me consultation fee is $250.00.00 Xray $375.00 for today, and the service for a root canal will be another $ 2,100.00. But she will give me a discount of $250.00 for the Xray. I shall pay $375.00 for that day. She made me sign the paper I agreed with that day's service and will do the root canal $1,900 instead of $$2,100.00. I have no other choice, and I paid $375.00 that day, but I felt something was wrong. What if I do not have money or do not have enough money to pay them. Do they shall tell me how much before they put me on their chair. Shall I have a choice to get a consultation from her or not? That is a terrible experience for me, and I hope they shall not do this again to any potential patient. read more
