Maryams Grill is a Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Little Rock that serves excellent falafel, Greek salad, and tacos. When you arrive, you place your order at a kiosk screen and submit payment through the screen. You will place your name on the order. You just wait for your name to be called to pick up your order. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The quality and value for what you pay for is worth the time spent dining at this restaurant. The Greek salad and chicken taco I had were terrific. Great new downtown lunch spot. I've been wanting to try Maryam's for a while now and I'm so glad I did! Hubby and I took ourselves over to The Tower Building for lunch. Street parking was fine on a Friday at noon. I ordered the chicken shwarma with a side of fries and hubby ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of falafel. (He wanted the beef kabob sandwich but the counter person kindly informed us it takes 20-25 minutes to cook.) Both sandwiches were excellent, huge portions of chicken. Hubby and I agreed we both slightly preferred the chicken shwarma since it wasn't quite as messy. Nice, wavy cut fries with a little seasoning. I appreciate them not being overly salty. The star of the show was the falafel! It was so fresh, moist in the middle, crunch on the outside- perfectly cooked. I love that it wasn't so overwhelming spiced. Although the food was very good, we waited over an hour and a half to get our food served. It did not appear to be busy so we had no idea we were going to be waiting so long. I ordered the gyro platter, and it comes with saffron rice, gyro meat, your choice of tzatziki or hummus, a freshly baked pita bread portion, and a small Greek salad with olives and feta cheese. The saffron rice was the most fragrant I've ever had at my many experiences at Mediterranean restaurants; it was a pleasant surprise! For quick, cheap Mediterranean food downtown (but not in the River Market), Arbela is certainly welcome to the Little Rock lunch scene. You order at the counter and choose what you want from falafel, gyro, chicken, tabbouleh, lentil soup, and a few desserts. The meats can be done with rice, pita, and sauce, or as a wrap. The prices are around $6-7, with soups/sides at $2-3. Service is really fast, though a line usually starts building by 11:45. The overall quality of the food is OK. It isn't as good as say Layla's in WLR but it is definitely a step up from the spot in the River Market. I'd recommend a stop since it's fast, cheap, and new, but don't expect to be blown away by quality. read more

So we usually order fro Arbelas. We got our food today and neither one of us enjoyed our meal. The food was not good at all. I don't know if they have changed management or what. It's an odd name for a mediterranean restaurant isn't it? I assumed they serve Italian. Oh wait; Italy is on the Mediterranean. Well, you know what I mean... This place, you walk up and give a guy your order and he starts making it; a la Subway. It's loud in there, and I had a hard time understanding/hearing. It's cheap. For the price of a large value meal from nearby fast food joints, you can get a small baba ganoush or hummus and a falafel plate that includes a salad, some pita, rice, and four falafel balls. Bad news first: Though I've met quite a few people who raved about the hummus, I wasn't a fan. I thought it was pretty bland except for the overwhelming taste of Tahini. A friend said it's better in the morning after a night of mixing in the refrigerator; and for $3 they really do give you quite a bit of it. The falafel is different than most of the others I've had. Usually it's pretty dense and dry, but this was quite the opposite. It had a really good flavor that meshed well with the bit of tzatziki they supplied. The rice (I asked for spicy) was good too, but if you ask for spicy, don't expect it to burn your mouth; I think the spices they refer to are like cloves and cumin. I can't wait to return there and try their gyros. It'll have to be at lunch though, because they're not open except for 11-2 M-F. read more

What a great find this was. It's super close to my work and never disappoints. I often get the combination plate which has both gyro and chicken over a bed of their delicious spicy rice. It comes with a side salad, 2 falafels, fresh warm pita bread, and a choice of their tatziki sauce or unbelievable hummus. All this for 10 bucks is great. I will often order the hummus and sauce. Sometimes they change me, sometimes they don't. Either way I leave feeling great. It might not be where I take you if you ask for the best gyro Little Rock has to offer, but for the very friendly staff, great prices, and healthy portions, this place gets my business once a week minimum! read more

I love the Gyro plate . I always try to get there before the lunch rush because people are always lining up. It's super close to work and so much healthier than going to the fast food restaurants. Service is not super fast but that's because you have so many options and more folks do not know what they want. I am willing to wait though because it's hard to get a good gyro plate downtown. I usually sit in but sometimes I have to grab to go back to work. Either way good quality food for a reasonable price. I've had lunch meetings here but have also come to eat alone.
