Stopped here on a long road trip and so glad I did. The food is incredible, if you want homemade with love flavor this is the place. It's a true gem This is the kind of food that I grew up eating and that I cook at home, but made the way my grandma would have made it. It's healthy, wholesome, comforting, and rare to find at a restaurant. We ordered a $10 plate of spinach stew with a side of grape leaves and one plate was enough to feed 2 adults and 2 little kids for a light lunch. But it was so good we went back for a second order which were quickly devoured. The grape leaves were some of the best I've had. The spinach stew was perfectly balanced and filling without being heavy. The woman working at the restaurant was so sweet and made the experience even better. This was my first time eating at Middle Eastern Cuisine and I found it to be A-OK. The found wasn't packed with flavor but it had a very authentic feel to it. I'm sure everything that comes out of my kitchen isn't bursting with flavor, so why should I expect their food to be over the top? I told the guy at the counter that I wanted one of their "plates" that included a main dish and a couple of side dishes. I told him to surprise me. The only thing that look familiar was the main dish. It looked like some kind of meatloaf. It had a nice taste but it wasn't something that I would drive across town to eat again, however, I wouldn't be upset to if my wife learned the recipe and served it to me at home. The two gentlemen who were working the booth were both very friendly and helpful, but I kind of got the suspicion that they make up the prices as the went along. In conclusion; the food didn't feel like fast food and the service was very nice. If you're in the area, it won't hurt you to give them a try but don't make a special trip to eat there. read more

The only reason i am giving 2 stars is because the food was OK. I ate there back in November and now its January 3rd. They charged my card a second time and refuse to answer the phone. Now I have to file am investigation with the bank. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE CHARGED EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS WITHOUT GOING THERE. This is such an awesome food stall in the Little Rock River Market. One of the best meals we had when visiting Little Rock. The food was fresh and very flavorful. We ordered three beef and lamb Gyros plates. Unfortunately since it was late afternoon, The person behind the counter said she only had enough gyro meat for two. No worries, we also got a sandwich from a not so great place. When we got our two plates, it was loaded. Think she could have stretched it to four plates. We appreciated that she did not skimp on her customers and provided a great value to the tasty meal. Next time in Little Rock, will definitely go back. read more

I've tried every Greek place in Little Rock - Taziki's, Layla, Istanbul, and even Leo's. This, by far, is the best gyro around. It's a small 'ma and pop stand in the Ottenheimer Market Hall, but everything is made fresh daily, and is incredibly flavorful. the people behind the counter are friendly, and the food is excellent. There's good things despite the mediocre rating - read on... I had passed by Middle Eastern Cuisine while in the River Market several times, but just looking at the falafel balls just sitting in that heating tray and not being fried up freshly sorta made me uneasy, (that's not what I'm used to). The man who I assume owns the establishment was very nice and courteous while taking my order. I can get a gyro anywhere... but falafel in Little Rock seems hard to come by. So I ordered falafel, and he offered it wrapped or laid out and whether I wanted everything on it. Opted for everything (duh) and got it wrapped and ordered it as a plate which comes with two sides (I got hummus and babaganoush or eggplant spread). He also asked if I wanted it spicy - never been asked that before - so I go the adventurous route and go with the spice. Food comes out. Looks good. I was afraid of the cold falafel. Of course the texture of cold falafel is just not the same as fresh, but in all honesty the flavor storm going off in my mouth slightly made up for the subpar falafel balls. Going spicy was clearly the way to go. I still do wish my falafel were fresh. Hummus - very good. Babaganoush - I have had good babaganoush and bad. All the bad ones seem to have this similar flavor that I just find off putting. I ate some, it wasn't bad, not great. I give it a three because service was nice (although some employees seemed a bit clueless), price wasn't bad, food overall was pretty good, but cold falafel, and not so great babaganoush was a little disappointing. read more

I ordered a falafel sandwich. This sandwich is at the top of my list of one of the WORST falafel sandwiches I've ever had. Traditionally falafel is served warm and with tahini, their sandwich was served with hummus which did not have very much flavor. The bread was the only tasty part of the sandwich. The falafel balls were cold and it was topped with a Jerusalem salad mix which was marinated in a dressing that tasted fermented and like it was going bad. I did not know the sandwich was topped with this salad, (I asked for lettuce tomato and onion). The sandwich came with two sides so I ordered a side of the Jerusalem salad and baba ghanouj, what they call "eggplant dip". The baba ghanouj tasted rancid. The lady behind the counter did not provide the most friendly of service but in all was pleasant. I will not eat here again. read more

I wanted to like this place more than I did. I got the plate of falafel, that came with 3 falafel, a pita, and 2 sides (I picked the salad, and baba ghanoush). I also got it spicy, and with onions on the side. The portions were somewhat small for the $8 (I was confused as to the prices because the board was different than the menu at the counter) and I only really got four bites of baba ghanoush. I've had a lot of it in my life, and it wasn't bad, it just needed a little bit more "oomph." The salad was going bad - the cucumbers tasted soggy and old. The falafel was pretty good - but also very salty. I wished I had got the hummus to balance out my palate. The best part about this place was the older man- he was such a sweetheart! I just wish the food had been a bit better. read more

Little Rock, with all of its conservative ideologies, seems to want to offer up many a foreign food in this downtown River Market. Unfortunately, nearly everything fell flat. I figured the River Market was a place where all palates alike could come together and find something to indulge in. Wrong. The falafel was dense, and it was mightily cold, as they took it from right under the heat lamp. There were a number of employees standing around--couldn't you bear to freshly fry my mashed chick pea fritters? I guess not. Additionally, I don't really appreciate that my pita sits in a heating element. I will admit it was not unnecessarily tough, but come on. Effort! On the brighter side, the hummus and babaganouj adequately satisfied. They both had enough flavor to carry the dips along. The babaganouj had a little too much lemon, I will have to admit. Middle Eastern Cuisine appears to be a very exhaustive title for the rather simple "deli/grocery" stand. I don't know what people necessarily see in it, but when you have fresh falafel and warmed-to-order pita, you will know that you have reached Middle Eastern nirvana. Not this stand. read more

I have eaten here for more than 10 years and my last visit here over the past weekend left me very upset. My husband and I ordered 2 gyros (sandwich only, not the plate) and a package of pita bread. According to the menu, the gyros were $5.50 each. When I asked the lady at the counter how much the pita bread was, she said $5.00. So, obviously, my total should be $16. Right?? Well, for some reason, they felt that I needed to be charged $21. By this time I realized how much they were charging me, they had already charged my credit card. When I asked for an explanation, the sandwiches were now $6 each and pita bread now $6. Even that didn't make sense! When questioning further, they wanted to charge extra for the sauce that goes on the gyro sandwich. Really?? All I have to say is that this place is a rip off!! Do not give them your card until you know for sure how much they are charging you!!!! read more

Gyros are everywhere, but this is the only place I've eaten home style Gyro pieces cooked in fragrant yogurt sauce. This creation by Wally alone makes me wants to stop in Little Rock. This place is what 2.5 was made for, but I'll give it the extra half because I'm in a good mood. I had a taste for gyro and was excited for my first lunch at the River Market. There were so many choices I was hoping I was making the right one, but as soon as I ordered I got nervous. The food in the deli case looks old. If I were them I would put anything else in there except for what they have. They pulled my chicken out of a warming bin and the fries as well. Which means the fries weren't crispy and the chicken had that reheated via microwave taste. The tomato was a little mealy and the lettuce and taziki sauce was scarce. So why does it even rate about one star? The flavor was really good. I could tell when the fries were fresh, they were great. They are fresh cut and seasoned perfectly. The spices in the chicken are also great. I wish everything was freshly prepared and there was more attention to detail. I'm a Cleveland girl who loves a gyro and has had a ton of them, if you are trying ne for the first time, I'm sure it's fine. read more

There aren't many places to get gyros or falafel in Arkansas, but that's okay, since I wouldn't bother going anywhere but here (unless it's Greek Food Festival weekend at Annunciation Greek Orthodox church!). The proprietor is super-friendly, the atmosphere of the Market Hall is jovial & bright, & the food is delicious! The gyros & spanikopita are tied for my favorite dish. Both come with tsaziki, which is very bright, tangy, & has a delightful clean taste. The lamb in the gyros is perfectly seasoned, & the salty, roasted taste contrasts perfectly with the creamy sauce. Bonus: I've never had a tough or stale piece of flatbread here, which is a pet peeve for me. read more

This is, I believe, the longest standing Middle Eastern food place in Little Rock and understandably so. The decor is great, the owners are really friendly and the food is authentically Palestinian. a great option in the River Market Pavilion, was surpised to find authentic Arab food like this in Arkansas.. I chatted with the owner/operator, I think he is Palestinian.. Tried a gyro, hummus, and arab style salad; all were good and seemed fairly authentic.. I have never been to the middle east but am a huge fan of Lebanese/Palestian and other Meditteranean cuisines and have tried many Arab places all over the US, Europe, and Brazil.. The food here is respectable, and prices are reasonable.. This is a very casual environment, just order your food at the counter and then sit at tables in the common area in the River Market Pavilion; which has a number of cafes centered around a common area.. If you feel like grazing you can get coffee or dessert from one of the other places after your meal.. read more

I have been eating at Middle Eastern Cuisine since it opened in the late 90s - there is something to be said for the fact that it is the only place still left from all of those original food stands, and it is for a reason. Over the years I have brought all of my friends and out-of-towners here for authentic, delicious food from a variety of regions. Wael or "Wally" (the owner) is very knowledgeable and happy to explain the origins of each dish. My friends and guests have consistently raved that his gyro is the best gyro they've ever had. I personally love his falafel. Also, ask for rose water in your tea - it's a must :) read more
