Beware if you visit Dr. Kouroush Mehrabian at the Maryland Dental Center located at 8120 Fenton Street, Suite 100, Silver Spring, Maryland. In 2018 I received 2 implants and a bone graft; I paid in full prior to the procedure. I had to wait 6 months after the bone graft before getting the implant which is standard. When the 6 months was about to expire, I called Sheyla who is the office manager to inquire about the continuation of the implant procedure. I left a message with the receptionist for Sheyla to return my call but Sheyla did not return my call. One week later I left another message for Sheyla to return my call but once again, she did not return my call. Three weeks later I called the office again and asked if Sheyla was in. The receptionist placed me on hold and then returned to tell me that Sheyla wanted to know what I wanted. I became furious because I had already left several messages for Sheyla to return my call, and then she wanted to know what I wanted. I told the receptionist that I wanted Dr. Mehrabian to call me so that I could file a complaint against Sheyla, and to get a refund because Sheyla would not call me back to discuss the completion of my implant work. Dr. Mehrabian did not return my call, but Sheyla instead called me back. I asked Sheyla to explain the reason that she refused to return my calls and why did not come to the phone the last time that I called. She told me that she was out of the office, which was a poor excuse because she could have returned my call in within 3 weeks. I then told Sheyla that I wanted to discuss the issue with Dr. Mehrabian. Dr. Mehrabian refused to call me, so he instead sent me a letter explaining that he would give me a partial refund and that I could ask another doctor to perform the completion of the implant procedure. He also defended Sheyla by mentioning that his employees are great. Wow! His office manager would not return my phone calls for 3 weeks but he defended her actions, I guess he does not care about losing patients. I then visited Dr. Tofigh in Hyattsville, MD to complete the implant procedure but Dr. Tofigh told me that he would not be comfortable following behind another doctor's work; in addition to that he is Dr. Mehrabian's friend. I then contacted Sheyla to ask Dr. Mehrabian to complete the work that he started, or course Dr. Mehrabian refused to complete the work. Dr. Mehrabian completed the procedure after I filed a complaint with the Maryland Dental Board in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Mehrabian sent me an email informing me that after the work is completed, I cannot receive any more services in his office. After Dr. Mehrabian completed the procedure, and after his assistant attached the crowns, I received a letter from Dr. Mehrabian informing me that I cannot receive any more services at the Maryland Dental Center. Early this year I revisited Dr. Tofigh to ask him to do implant surgery on the other side of my mouth. Dr. Tofigh told me that he is moving to California so I should visit another dentist, but he discovered that I experiencing bone loss to the implant that Dr. Mehrabian performed. Dr. Tofigh instructed me to consult with Dr. Mehrabian on the matter so I sent Dr. Mehrabian a message via email. Dr. Mehrabian asked me to send him a copy of the x-rays to determine if I was experiencing bone loss. I then asked Dr. Mehrabian if I could come to see him in person since he performed the implant procedure. Dr. Mehrabian refused to allow me to come see him. I replied in the email, "You are still holding a grudge". "If you would have disciplined Sheyla for not returning calls we would not be in this situation". Dr. Mehrabian did not reply so I moved on. Several weeks later I decided to send him the copy of the x-rays, but he refused to contact me with his assessment of the bone loss. In summary, Dr. Mehrabian is a very good doctor, but he is willing to jeopardize his practice to protect his employees whenever they are wrong. It is scary and sad that a medical practice like this (which is Maryland Dental Center, but there is something fishy about the names it is listing itself by) is allowed to continue to operate. Don't ever go here for anything. I went for a routine cleaning that I purchased via Groupon. Cleanings from other practices I've obtained this way I've had no problem with. Maybe they're zealous about getting you to try capture you as a regular customer or try to sell you on a fluoride treatment. That's fine. And I've never had a cavity. This place--after a perfunctory cleaning, the dentist comes in, goes right to her exam without introducing herself, rattles out some codes to the assistant, and leaves. I'm handed an examination record by the assistant that says I have 3 cavities and a 4th tooth to keep an eye on. Price for each filling included ($180-$190 each). Do I want to do the work right now or schedule another time to come in? I was scared and disbelieving. So not that day, and probably not ever. Before leaving, I figured I ought to speak to the dentist to see the x-rays and get an explanation. I was told she was in a long procedure so it be a wait to see her. I left, knowing what whatever she said I would need a second opinion. When I got it, the legitimate dentist said my teeth were perfect. I showed him the Maryland Dental Center examination record and he said what they found was make believe. And he described his approach as conservative, meaning he's not one to overlook something minor going on. Other negative aspects: the worthless cleaning, the shabby facility, the fact that it was hard to schedule an appointment because the hygienist was often not in the office, the fact that they have parking available that they don't bother to tell you about, etc. are practically besides the point. This place wanted to drill and fill my healthy teeth and charge me $600 for it. While I didn't fall for it, I worry about other victims of this practice. I telephoned this practice-- they have initial offerings that are good come-ons, an inexpensive cleaning, a low-cost exam/consult with xrays, a couple of others-- and was offered an appointment the next business day. I took one for a few days later as my tooth was a bit uncomfortable when exposed to cold, but not too bad. That changed as the appointment got closer. Sensitive teeth toothpaste saved the day as I started it as soon as the discomfort had started. A remarkably traffic-free day got me to the office early, it was empty in the waiting room, check in took a couple of minutes, then another couple of minutes of me entering my info into their computer (and I forgot my glasses), then right back to the exam room. Preliminary questions from the tech about a few health details, then rads, then the dentist arrived. We spent a few minutes going over the primary reason for the visit, covered a few side issues, shot the breeze for a minute, then got down to basics. I was quoted on services and preventives they recommended, the ones I requested, and a couple of other options, all quite reasonably priced. As I was not in much pain I had the luxury of discussing options and scheduling-- I expect most folks would be in less-favorable condition, for which you have my sincere sympathy-- and I will likely have them do one small cavity repair before getting the second repair done, as a test. I had a pleasant experience, enjoyed how the folks there were professional, polite, attentive, and efficient, and will (carefully) consider continuing my "relationship" with MDC. Other folks have mentioned how this practice acts as a "front" for their dentists; this is silly. The business is quite clear in that its professionals are independent contractors, a common method of operating a medical office of this (or similar) type. The facility is a bit long in the tooth (har har!) but not everyone can afford the newest digs. It is clean, if a bit scuffed, but I saw no obvious problems (and I actually know what to look for!) or warning signs during my visit, which was done in less than an hour from arrival to departure. I did not realize US dentists still used autoclaves. Nice! I may ask to see the most-recent calibration for it when I am next in... There is parking available but you have to ask where it is and then have them explain what "36, 37 and 38" or whatever I was told means. I just used my handicapped placard in the garage/lot that is about 100 feet south of the MDC entrance. Metro is quite convenient as well, though the thought of fighting commuter crowds after getting drilled is not enjoyable. I recommend you try the practice, especially when you do NOT have an emergency-- always good advice-- and see for yourself. It isn't a Bethesda location but neither are the prices. Seems a fair trade, one I am willing to make! Covid rituals seem proper, when I left there was one person in the waiting area and another on the way in, so not crowded, everyone was properly masked and gloved, all were quite careful, and the Saran-wrapped keyboard and mouse-- wiped off and re-wrapped as I watched-- are a smart touch. I think what I am trying to get across is this place was about what I expected during this time, if anything can be expected during covid. Nothing unusual, everyone pro and careful, attention to detail without being pedantic, reasonable, and happy to discuss how to make things easier on you. I will update as necessary. 4 years ago I was at a dental clinic in Washington DC that was becoming too expensive for me and could not do the oral surgery I needed in preparation for an implant to replace a broken tooth. I was advised to have oral implant surgery elsewhere, and then come back. I went to Maryland Dental Center for the surgery, and never went back to the boutique practice. I have received very good dental care here for four years. I am an older man. As I discovered, many fillings, crowns, and root canal treatments may last 30 or more years - but not a lifetime. Be prepared as you get older to need significant dental care, including repair or replacement of dental work done decades earlier. Dr. Mehrabian, Maryland Dental Center's senior dentist, is an oral surgeon. He performed the jawbone surgery I needed for my first tooth implant. Since then, I have broken two more teeth. Dr. Mehrabian did the surgery for them as well. During one of the operations, I listened as he explained to his assistant why he was doing a certain step in the surgery process. He explained that many other dentists skip the complicated step because it is time-consuming, but he does it because it enables a more precise implant alignment. Dr. Minhas is my regular dentist at Maryland Dental Center. She is a very good dentist. Dr. Minhas completed most of my crown-replacements and implants. She takes great care to color-match a crown so that it is a perfect match. If she is not satisfied with the way a crown or implant fits, she readily has the lab do it over (at no cost to me). I go to their Silver Spring office. I understand they have several more offices in Maryland. The Silver Spring office recently brought on several new office staff and their appointment and billing processes are working well for me. The Covid setbacks impacted so many businesses. We are now past the worst of that. I've seen an improvement in patient scheduling and billing. read more

This place operates like a fraud honestly. It's so glaring that all they care about is money. I went once when they had a promo for teeth washing and it wasn't too bad. They called me sometime last month to come in for teeth cleaning and asked for my insurance which I gave them. I went there on the day of the appointment filled all my details and even lay on the dental chair. The doctor came in and she talked to me for about five minutes and left. Only for the front desk guy to come in and tell me that they don't accept my insurance (erm you could have told me that before I drove 40 minutes and wasted another 20 minutes waiting). But then told me I could pay about $160 for the teeth cleaning. Why would I do that? I HAVE INSURANCE! I have warned my family not to go to him as I am a medical professional and have heard horror stories regarding his office and himself. Word of mouth from doctors is everything! My mother went to him six years ago for implants and to this day her mouth is numb!!!! I never wrote a review as my mom is too nice and she asked me to let it go. My husband went to Dr. Mehrabian due to a loose screw in his implant that Dr.Mehrabian performed years ago. At the time of the implant, he informed my husband that if the screw becomes loose he can return to the office and he will tighten it free of charge as it has a lifetime warranty. When my husband went there Dr. Mehrabian said he will tighten it for $1,500.00. He is a joke and does not stand by his word! The money is not a problem! It's the lies he promises patients. Almost every time I call the Germantown office (which is where I go) it gets transferred to Silver Spring office, because no one bothers to answer the phone. I had a question about a future appointment, but Silver Spring couldn't answer because their computer systems are not linked. My first visit was amazing but it quickly went downhill after. The actual doctors were all pretty decent but the front desk/ cleregical staff are horrible. First I had issues with them overcharging me when my insurance should have covered it all, but they were determined not to refund me my money but instead somehow spend it there through miscellaneous charges. There is a huge language barrier and no one really seems to know what is going on. Every thing is "... uhhh let me check" you can ask a simple question and no one has a clue how to answer it and have to reference multiple other people to get an answer. As far as my dental work, of course I only had one major concern when I went in and after they did some work I'm having a lot more issues and pain. They didn't even really adress my original concern and in fact went back and forth several times about what tooth needed a root canal only to find out that the one they were about to perform it on was perfectly fine. It is just a very questional place and I am really disappointed at how it went from a promising visit with Dr. Kourish and the young black dentist who cleaned my teeth, to an experience from hell. **Lastly you may see great reviews on their company website but its most likely due to the fact that this lady makes you sit down at a computer while staring you down, watching you write a review for them before getting your dental work. I called all weekend long asking to have the dentist phone in some pain medication for my teeth and I was told to rest assured they will call something in and now Monday morning I am still in excruciating pain because of course nothing was called in. Update: It is now September 2016. I still have not heard back from the office manager. I have not been reimbursed the correct amount for my wisdom teeth extraction procedure. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist office. DO NOT go to this place if you have a choice. -------------- I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since they seem so busy here, but I don't know what else to do. It has been almost a year since I went there and I still have not gotten my reimbursement money. I called several times asking for someone to call me back about my claim form. No one ever call me back. I sent emails to the manager, Shayla Morales and she never responded to any of my emails or calls. This has been going on since February 2015!!! I had my wisdom teeth pulled out in February of 2015 and I didn't get my first insurance claim form processed until September 2015. When I heard back from my insurance in October 2015, it turned out that this dentist office put in the wrong procedure code and I did not receive my correct reimbursement. I had to contact them back again in October 2015 and ask them to process my form again with the CORRECT procedure code. It is now December 2015 and I still have NOT heard back from anyone at all. I didn't check the reviews before coming here. They checked me in, then had me sit in one of their dental rooms and wait for the doctor who didn't bother to arrive to the appointment on time. I waited for an hour after my scheduled appointment time and then silently left without receiving treatement. While I was sitting there I had a chance to see these reviews and it scared me out of my mind. A rushed root Canal without enough pain killers? Are you kidding me? I very clearly was going to need something similar and there was no way I was going to experience that. The fact that doctors still show up late despite these bad reviews across the board shows a lack of moral compass that I would never subject myself to. Even more so right now since I am pregnant. This seems like the type of business that has the attitude of "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" I could see them easily giving me the wrong baby deforming types of drugs due to their incompetence and lack of very obvious self preservation. This place costed me a 4AM ambulance ride to the emergency room. I took 2 trains here from Northern Virginia (no car) to get a root canal on an upper left molar. During the procedure, Dr. Nameen didnt numb my mouth thoroughly and attempted to drill through the tooth 3 times- only to conclude that the tooth was infected& for me to return for another visit. Mind you, I felt the pain from the drilling, was scolded for hinting that I was pain, & kept hearing that it was almost time for her 'to go'.Lady, I'm paying for this all out of pocket and did a near 2-hour commute for the appointment. Root canals are the last thing that you want a 'rush job' for. And, that's exactly, what I got. A careless rush job. Days after Dr. Nameen's drilling into my tooth, I had unbearable pain& swelling on the left side of my ENTIRE head...pain in places like my jaw, ear, temple, and left eye.It was impossible for me to sleep & caused me to go to the emergency room. Before I visited this place, I NEVER had these types of symptoms regardless of the tooth's condition. Even worse, Dr. Nameen prescribed me an antibiotic and 2 pain meds...yet, she forgot to write my personal info& name on the handwritten prescription.CVS couldn't accept the nameless prescriptions when I returned to VA. When I called this office about the doctor's mistake, I received unprofessional advice to write my own name on the prescription (obviously that didn't work). Then, I called the receptionists over SEVEN times in the span of 5 days to fax over my pain prescriptions to my local CVS. They failed to fax over the prescriptions to the right CVS, couldn't find my information in their system, and ultimately sent 1 [wrong] prescription to my CVS (was supposed to be 3 prescriptions for pain& infection...). Each time I called these mindless receptionists,I told them that I was in PAIN.Yet, they failed to listen, lacked the ability to maintain my records & seemed highly inexperienced (or careless) for urgent dental situations. My 911 call to the hospital allowed me to get the proper pain prescriptions that this place failed to provide. AVOID this place if you need a root canal...AVOID this place if you don't want pain that screws up one side of your head. I'm sure some people would have filed a lawsuit for the pain and the hell that I've been through. read more

My teeth feel so clean. They speak a lot of Spanish in the office and there was a bit of a language barrier. Fortunately for me a girl named Ana helped me out to explain. I did not have a good experience here. Although my first appointment (for a cleaning) ended with a no-show by the dentist due to a snow storm, I was willing to try again. The second visit, I was able to see the dentist for the X-ray and exam, but the hygienist wasn't even there. How can you schedule a cleaning when the hygienist isn't there? This is really an update from my review back in 2015. I have just learned that i will need to have all my teeth extracted due to periodontal disease, the extent of which has caused major bone erosion, loose teeth, etc. This office filled two cavaties and a deep root cleaning. And that normal maintenance and cleaning would be an effective approach going forward. The extent of the gum disease, infections, bone loss, etc have occurred over many years. This office NEVER indicates there was a problem in this regard. I shd have had more routine cleanings since my visit with them. Despite not doing so this kind of degradation does not happen over a 3 1/2 year period. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Made an appointment by phone as a new patient for a cleaning without a problem. They called the day before to confirm. Front desk staff were bland but fine. From what I can tell, however, after scrolling through the waivers and forms you sign as a new patient - the clinic is set up as an umbrella organization to provide the overhead stuff and individual dentists work as independent contractors for Maryland Dental. My experience seems to match this. The hygienist took my X-rays with no issues. The dentist came and saw me for exactly two minutes, and was clearly in the middle of a long procedure with another patient and had taken a break to examine me. He was communicating with the staff about the other patient while he was poking around my mouth. He declared I have three cavities (I don't) and my wisdom tooth needed to come out. I inquired why the wisdom tooth was a problem, and he asked "Is it bothering you?" I said no. He shrugged and walked out. That was the end of the official exam. Hygienist did a nice job with the cleaning. They don't check gum health (some places will measure the depth in mm of your gums around your teeth, and monitor that over time) or check your bite with pressure paper. I asked at the end about pricing for getting a chipped tooth rebonded, as it has worn down over the years. The receptionist says there is no such procedure as bonding, only fillings. Granted I should not expect to get the best answer by asking the receptionist, but the dentist wasn't available. Anyway - fine service for basic cleaning. I would not go there for anything cosmetic if they don't even know what bonding is. The dentists are not motivated to care about the patients since it is not their practice. I would suggest finding a private practice dentist for more personal service. This is kind of like going to JCPenney for portraits rather than hiring a photographer. You can do better. read more

I have never been more disappointed in a business in my life. Twice I have been rescheduled last minute without notice. I've taken off of work two times in a row only to have them casually call me the morning of an appointment to tell me that they have rearranged the schedule (withmy consult or consent) . I've worked front desk before rule #1... answer the phone with a smile, even thou we patient don't see it, we can pick it up. I hope the doctors are better engaged with thier patient. If I would I wouldn't even give this place a star! It was horrible! I couldn't even stay for this appointment bc the front desk was just horrible!!! I had read the reviews before I scheduled this appointment and saw how bad they were but still gave them the benefit of the doubt. When I tell you this girl had a bad attitude I mean she had the worst attitude. I didn't feel welcome. First impression is a lasting impression it gives the person important information about your character. So someone with a bad attitude should not be the first person to greet a patient when they arrive for an appointment. It is a turn off and it will cause your business to loose patients. I am sure as a business owner it is important that your patients are satisfied patients. Front desk or customer service is not for everybody so maybe you should consider relieving her of her duties so that she can find a job that is more suitable!! read more

this place is ridiculous. i had a 915 appointment, arrived at 850, but after an exam, cleaning and two fillings, i was finally done at 145. i was shuffled around to 4 different seats over my 4.5 hours there. there was also a problem with my insurance that none of the receptionists told me about until hours later. it was just a hot mess. the initial exam is an awesome price until they start adding up all the additional work. avoid if you can, but definitely pack your patience. read more

This place is awful and would get zero stars if i could. I've been there twice and I've yet to see the actual dentist - there seems to be a bunch of techs and non English-speaking assistants performing all of the work. The wait times are ridiculous and the front desk staff is very unorganized. I got a night guard there and was told it would arrive in 5 business days...three weeks later no call. I finally call them and I'm told it's there but no one can seem to explain why I wasn't called to pick it up. I also couldn't come in that same day to pick it up because now all of a sudden I need to see to see this mysterious dentist. I will never do business with this place again and I've already told my sister about them and she's cancelled her first appointment so she doesn't get caught up in their bull-ish. Do not go to these people!!! Not worth your insurance $ or your co-pays!!!!! Go someplace where they are fluent in English and you can see the actual dentist!! read more

Started to make an appointment there myself, until I read these reviews, yeah its true they do answer the phone in Spanish and seem confused if you speak English. I saw the one reply from the doctor about bilingual staff, this is America, where English is the official language of the country. I understand the business end with having bilingual staff, but when you answer your telephone in a language other than the official language of the country your business is in especially when speaking said language is a requirement to be a legal citizen, it tells me where your customer base is, and I'm not sure I want to be a part of it. Aside from that, the lady really didn't answer any of my questions to my satisfaction, despite the fact that I informed her I had to drive 90 minutes to this location and wanted some guarantee that something would be done beyond a consultation as I had already undergone one of those the day before and had X-rays and documentation in hand, and there should be no reason for me to doublepay for yet another consultation when my tooth is in pain and needs a root canal. read more
