Outstanding Service at The Vault - Ask for Jack the Gunsmith I had an exceptional experience at The Vault inside Maryland Small Arms Range and felt compelled to share it. I needed night vision sights installed on my pistol and first contacted a gun store in district heights, where I was quoted $60 and told it would take a day or two to complete. On a whim, I called The Vault on MLK holiday, fully expecting delays -- instead, I was pleasantly surprised. Jack, the gunsmith, not only quoted me $25 (less than half the price), but had the work completed in about 25 minutes while I waited. That level of efficiency and professionalism is rare these days. After the install, I immediately took the pistol onto the range. Both the red dot and night sights were dead-on accurate out to 15 yards. No adjustments needed. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of Jack's workmanship. Bottom line: If you need any firearm work done, ask for Jack at The Vault. This range has plenty of parking but it is almost always packed at least on Saturdays! I like this range primarily for location and the classes offered at this range (Primarily Mo - I've taken several classes with him). They offer the cheapest HQL class that I have seen though at very weird times well for me. The do have a dealer section/store and I believe if you purchase a firearm out of state you can have it transferred here for pick up. read more

Customer service needs improvement. Sign in procedure is horrible. They have you sign in and wait then send you a text when they have reached your name on a clipboard. The problem is they texted the wrong and had me sitting 20 extra minutes and I was a few feet away when they could have just called my name. Eventually we were called up to be assigned a lane to shoot and was told we couldn't because I had forgotten my Maryland drivers license altho I did have my Police ID and Maryland conceal carry permit. Long story short we wasted 3 hours waiting when they could have explained at the time we signed in that a drivers license would be the only acceptable form or identification. I went here specifically for the Maryland HQL and multi-jurisdiction concealed carry permit (CCP) training. The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable, and while I understand the state mandates a long training requirement (around 16 hours), I felt the course itself could have been streamlined or condensed since much of the material didn't require that much time. That said, the big plus is that you can complete the live-fire portion in the same building, which saves you from needing to book an additional range visit elsewhere. It makes the process a lot more convenient compared to some other providers. You can also get the photos done on-site. However, they don't tell you that if you get your CCP photo you don't need one for HQL (as I recall). Pro tip: Arrive early on the first day and sign the attendance sheet right away. The shooting order is based on the sign-in order. I was first to arrive and among the first to shoot, which meant I was able to finish up quickly and head out before the crowd. Some folks were there until nighttime. Overall, it was a solid experience. Not the most engaging training, but very convenient and professionally run. Worth considering if you're working through Maryland's firearms requirements. read more

Very disappointing experience at Maryland Small Arms Range. The wait system seems disorganized, and the text updates they promised were not accurate or timely. I was told I'd get two texts, but I didn't even receive the first one until after the wait time they gave me had already passed. When I pointed out that I had checked in over an hour earlier, I was still told there were nine people ahead of me, which didn't add up. In a nutshell, it's a gun range that offers Maryland Handgun Qualification (HQL) classes; it's where I took my classes, did my fingerprints, and all the other requirements needed for me to obtain my license. It gets a little loud in the main area as people fill in during the early mornings. The shooting "lanes" are clean. You can also purchase safes, tasers, pepperspray, and other protection items here. I'm not even going to lie. We had sooooo much fun here! It definitely isn't anything fancy or shiny inside, but here's what I can tell you: They currently have a Groupon offer that's a steal for an hour of shooting, gun rental, glasses and ear plugs. Ammunition not included. Handguns only. Ammunition was about $23/box of 50. They have a nice gun selection if you're looking to purchase. The service was pretty good. Sure, the guys behind the counter are a little sarcastic but if you crack a joke, they'll smile. They were very helpful and weren't rude at all as outlined by previous reviews. That said, they are professional and particular - they're dealing with people and weapons. What do you expect? There is a long gun range here, too. We're going next time. Rates are a bit higher but reasonable. In all, I'd recommend this place. And they offer the conceal/carry license/training stuff that's required. Enjoy yourself and be safe! Ohhh, final notes: Additional targets are $1.50 each. They do take cards but Groupon taxes must be paid in cash. Around 4 we were wondering what's going on so went to the desk and they claimed they texted us. We received no text (party of 2; neither of us received a text!) they said we could go in now (4:05) but we'd have less than 30 min because they close at 4:30. Wasted almost 2 hours waiting for no reason! Never again!!! 10/10 would not recommend. They weren't even apologetic or anything. Mistakes happen yes but no apology or anything? Was with my certified instructor Tees Trigger Tactics We had a range slot for an hour while 3 of us took our certification. $30 for a lane for 1 hour. You are able to rent pistols or rifles. As an Active Duty military member on a staff tour, I like to maintain my proficiency by going to the range on my time off. I tried the Maryland Small Arms Range, Inc. for the first time yesterday since I was in the area. I went to the counter to check in as instructed. The worker told me that I would receive a text once a lane was available. While waiting, I walked around and noticed a window over the lanes showing at least two lanes available, but I did not think anything of it. I waited exactly one hour and saw at least 5 lanes available during the last 30 minutes in the area where they were shooting pistols. Thus, I went to the counter and told the worker to please remove my name from the waiting list. While I was about to walk out, another worker yelled, "Sir, wait, we just got a lane available." To that point, I replied that I waited an hour while several lanes were available, and the place was not even busy. Therefore, the worker just said "ok then" and gestured to go away, which I found rude and highly disrespectful. Thus, I left without saying a word. Because of my military career, I visited many shooting ranges across the country and overseas, and I never witnessed anything like it. My overall experience here was great. I drove from Woodbridge VA so it was kind of a long drive for me and I was hoping it would be a great experience. I got a Groupon deal and I think it was about $50 for my friend and I. It was her first time to and we were both pretty nervous at first. A couple of minutes before walking in to the building, I almost backed out, lol that's how nervous I was but I ended up having a great time. The staff gave us a quick but informative tutorial and we were able to ask questions. There were friendly and and definitely felt a little comfortable afterwards. I forgot the kind of gun we got but I remember it went by quickly, we left for go get something to eat and I had planned to return back another time. I would recommend this place. First came to visit to complete my HQL, it is a very spacious place and everyone was friendly and welcoming. I felt very safe and comfortable and could ask as many questions as I wanted without anyone feeling superior or acting like a [redacted] because I was a newbie. There was one guy that wouldn't even acknowledge us and acted like a butt but it turns out he was hungry, the guy after was great! I was even educated in different types of guns and what they thought would be right for me! This place was great! I am a complete newbie at shooting and was intimidated when I walked in. The instructions very well explained. I shot with an AK47 and had a blast. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars is that you can buy extra bullets. I rented the booth for a hour but finished my round of bullets within 20 minutes. Came with a group of about 8 for my birthday on 3/9. We had an amazing time. We got there around 4ish and waited about and hour and some change. 4 of us had the Groupon deal, and then the guys at the front helped everyone else get situated as well. Everyone was really cool and there was one guy who gave us a demonstration (I feel so bad because I cannot remember his name but he made the experience really awesome for us all) and walked us through the basics. I was a first timer, so when we got in, I was a little jumpy because the guns going off were so loud haha, but I put the ear protectors on and it helped to reduce the noise and after releasing my first round, I was very comfortable and got a rush of adrenaline I even went out and bought an additional box of ammunition. I have an HQL safety class scheduled in April to obtain my license, but I definitely will go back to the range after the class because I had a great time! read more

Been here a few times for target practice and to take classes to get my handgun permit. I love the range though some of the people that come here are a little questionable. They always have Groupon specials, so BOLO for that. Customer service is amazing and professional. So for my birthday this year I decided to go fire a couple of rounds at the range.. They were running a special on groupon and groupon was running a sale so I figured it was the best time I give it a shot! Since I went on a weekday in the middle of the day there was barely anyone there so I walked right in and got a range. The guys that worked there were all super nice and helpful. I got a brief lesson on how to shoot and was off on my way. Once inside since it was my very first time all of the noises made me a little nervous and firing the gun (revolver) for the first time was a little scary. But after a few practice shots I was fine and really getting into the grove of things. I will say a box of ammo goes really quickly with one person so if you are planning on sharing a deal with someone you may want to buy an additional box or two. read more

This is my second time visiting and I cannot believe how slowwwwww this place is run. Boyfriend bought a groupon deal and we came in on a Sunday afternoon to find out that we would need to wait about 3 hours. We headed back home and returned the following weekend early in the morning, right after it had opened. We were told 45min -1 hour wait. That was 4 hours ago and we are still waiting. Every hour we've checked in at the front desk, we have been told, it's a slow day. Wait another half hour....just ridiculous. Don't buy the groupon deal. 5 stars! I had a wonderful experience at this location with my son. We bought a deal on Livingsocial but it expired on Feb 4th. Thankfully, they still honored the deal. We drove all the way from Baltimore but it was worth it. There was a little bit of a wait (approx 25min) because we went on a busy Saturday afternoon. This location offers classes, gear, shooting range, gun sales, and more. The rental process was easy. Our livingsocial deal included 2 gun rentals, targets, and protective gear. We had to pay separately for our ammunition. The staff was PHENOMENAL! I'm a new shooter and my son was a first time shooter. They made recommends based on our hand size and level of comfort. After we chose our guns, we were given a ton of support and encouragement from the staff. They treated my son with respect and truly took their time to explain all safety precautions. They also gave us some extra time to practice because he was nervous. The range was pretty standard. All equipment worked properly. We had soooo much fun shooting. The staff was truly impressive, accommodating, professional, and friendly. It was the best experience. I've been to other ranges but I've never felt this comfortable before. Routinely disappoints! I've been here several times cause they are the only game in town. The front desk staff is disorganized and seems to cater to beginners because they need to rent everything. There is little (no) Range officer presence, so if safety is something you value, try not to look to the left or right of your lane. On my last visit with a friend, I waited for 20 minutes just to talk to the from desk staff who said there were 3 people in front of me for a lane. The gentleman that helped me check in was visibly disturbed that he had to work that day and was complaining to his coworker about it. He spelled my name wrong on the rental sheet, and ended up misplacing it. Thank goodness his coworker noticed his unprofessionalism and apologized on his behalf. The experience was definitely amazing and made up for the poor customer service. It wasn't too crowded, and I felt comfortable for it being my first time at a gun range. I'm a handgun enthusiast who started shooting and reloading in the early 90's so I have been to a number of gun shops & ranges in Arizona, Iowa, Illinois and Maryland. My wife and I got our HQLs during COVID, we felt we had an excellent instructor and going through MSAR was a good value. (We got fingerprinted at Rockville PD for $20.) While I would have been hard pressed to recommend the range prior to the remodeling (thought it was where we've mostly gone to shoot in MD,) after remodeling it is one of the finest ranges I've had the privilege to shoot at. A few weeks ago we went to another recently remodeled range (that used to be On Target) and it didn't compare. The equipment at MSAR was faster and worked better. Lighting, ventilation, lane equipment are all top notch. On a recent visit, a range officer stopped the shooting to remind people there was no rapid fire allowed (double taps are) so there is some monitoring of range activity/safety. The guys behind the range counter are typically friendly and efficient. We have been going there long enough that a few of them recognize and acknowledge us. There can be a line/long wait to shoot. We go on weeknights to avoid the weekend crowd. They seem to have a decent selection of guns to shoot however we ago BYOG. Range rules are about the same as most other ranges. We go there to shoot so I can't really comment about MSAR's other services/products. read more

I'm from the South, where the prices for a lane are not expensive. That being said, I feel this place is way overpriced. It was $66 for two people with our own weapons, ammo, eyes, and ears for one hour.... and for some reason some of the employees have an attitude problem, but that's what happens when everyone has a gun. Now for the good. I think this place has a fair selection of weapons, tactical gear, and their resident expert is amazing (this guy knows his stuff!). Be advised that you do have to show all of your bullets at the counter, some folks have an attitude about having to do this. Check your ego at the door and just show the darn bullets and go on about your business. I will return to this location in the future. read more
