The perfect gun for a first timer like myself.
Shalonte M.

Absolutely had an amazing time. I went with my friends and the Staff was professional and a great learning experience. Edwin at the front check-in desk was helpful and showed us the proper way to hold and use the gun. We will all be coming back a few more times before the year is done!

I completed my HQL Certification course last year and finally made my way to the gun range to celebrate my ".46 caliber" birthday! Equipment = old, but functional (with a few adjustments). Staff = attentive, friendly, helpful Value = I've never been to a range, but I believe the value is reasonable and comparative to other gun ranges. MISC. = Protective eye wear, ear protection, bullets, and targets available for purchase if you don't have your own. Will be back soon... hopefully with my own equipment. -- I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

I know you see it... talk nicely (jk!)

I don't have a thesis to write for Maryland Small Arms Range (MSAR). In a nutshell, it's a gun range that offers Maryland Handgun Qualification (HQL) classes; it's where I took my classes, did my fingerprints, and all the other requirements needed for me to obtain my license. It gets a little loud in the main area as people fill in during the early mornings. The shooting "lanes" are clean. You can also purchase safes, tasers, pepperspray, and other protection items here. Before my HQL course, I had visited once before using a Groupon deal -- it was a fun experience then.

That's the person who treated me badly

It's honestly a good place, but among the staff there is someone who is arrogant and racist. I tried to explain a situation, but I don't speak English fluently, and they didn't make the slightest effort to understand me.

I'm not even going to lie. We had sooooo much fun here! It definitely isn't anything fancy or shiny inside, but here's what I can tell you: They currently have a Groupon offer that's a steal for an hour of shooting, gun rental, glasses and ear plugs. Ammunition not included. Handguns only. Ammunition was about $23/box of 50. They have a nice gun selection if you're looking to purchase. The service was pretty good. Sure, the guys behind the counter are a little sarcastic but if you crack a joke, they'll smile. They were very helpful and weren't rude at all as outlined by previous reviews. That said, they are professional and particular - they're dealing with people and weapons. What do you expect? There is a long gun range here, too. We're going next time. Rates are a bit higher but reasonable. In all, I'd recommend this place. And they offer the conceal/carry license/training stuff that's required. Enjoy yourself and be safe! Ohhh, final notes: Additional targets are $1.50 each. They do take cards but Groupon taxes must be paid in cash. The ear plugs suck - get proper safety muffs because it's loud AF in the lanes.

Jack in the Gun Vault fixed my gun for super cheap. Very friendly and knowledgeable and was patient with a pair of gun amateurs.

Is it necessary to make an appointment to shoot on a Sunday? This will be my first time ever going.

You can not make and appointment at MSAR it is strictly first come fist serve. Be mindful that sundays are busy

Safety 1st is the best training facility I have been to!!…read more The company I worked for used Safety 1st for officers training and the owner Mr. Thornton is the best I've trained under and I have been to many. He is very knowledgeable in all subjects he teaches. He even offers some free training at times. My company signed up for training on two subject matters and we just happened to be talk about another subject and Mr. Thornton wanted to see if we had been properly trained. Some of us just had not gained the knowledge as we should have on this particular subject. Mr. Thornton gave us the proper training for free. It just shows he cares about the quality of the subjects he educates officers on. In short my colleagues and myself appreciate and were captivated by how Mr. Thornton delivered his education on law enforcement subjects. He makes it fun yet makes you want the knowledge to become a well qualified professional in the law enforcement field. I will definitely spread the word on Safety 1st training. Kudos to Mr. Thornton and his team!!

I called 301-346-2327 for over 2wks, this include texts and voicemails. They don't return any calls or respond to any texts. I actually called on one occasion and they answered but all i could hear was gun fire and they hung up the phone. Then i got a text saying kenneth thornton can i help you. So I sent another text. HE NEVER RESPONDED again. So i'm done with this company. Its so irritating to try to support local businesses in PG county. But the service you get is horrible. If they were to busy or not able to take any appts for training, at less have enough courtesy to respond to someone text or call. Don't waste your time. I went to Howard county and got training with no issues. And its cheaper. Only 125.00. And at small arms range they want 280.00. Very Disappointed,

My wife brought me to GUNTRY for my birthday, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. We kicked things off with a simulation session, which was so cool. I am already planning to do it again. The shock pack that zaps you when you get hit is wild. It is a little crazy, but honestly really fun to try. We spent an hour at the range afterward. It is definitely loud and a bit tight, but it gets the job done. The staff was friendly, patient, and very helpful the whole time. The retail shop is huge too, with tons of firearms and accessories to browse. We ended the night at their cigar and whisky event, and that was a great time. The whisky was strong and plentiful, and dinner was delicious. It was all catered in house by the cafe. Pricing is pretty reasonable overall. Their lesson rates seem lower than a lot of other places I have seen, although I have not had a chance to take one yet. My only complaint is that I wish it were closer. I live in DC, so it is definitely a trek, but it was worth the drive.

Especially since the pistol and rifle ranges at my club are outdoors, it's convenient to come here when it's super windy or super rainy. You don't have to be an NRA member to shoot here, but you do get a discount. Also, there are no gun rentals at this range -- if you wanna shoot, bring your own firearms. They also have range rules on what ammo you can shoot, and they will check your ammo before they assign you a range. Thankfully, they have ammo for sale if your ammo isn't shootable at the range, and/or you forgot your ammo. If it's your first time coming to the range, you will be required to take a range safety test (if you're an average shooter with common sense, it's nearly impossible to fail unless you're intentionally trying to fail). Once you pass, you get a range card that you have to pay for, but once you buy it, you never have to pay again (unless you misplace it). Also, ladies: I recommend coming out on Thursday night! Not only do you get a discount on your range reservation, but you also get a free range card on your first visit! All in all, the NRA HQ range is great. As long as you follow the rules, it is not a bad place to shoot.

The entire staff genuinely helped look for it and treated the situation like it mattered to them too. What really amazed me was that a few days later, I actually received a follow-up phone call asking if I had found my wallet. That kind of customer service is almost unheard of these days. Sadly, true customer service feels lost nowadays, so when a company goes above and beyond like this, it deserves to be recognized. Thank you to everyone there for your kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help. It truly meant a lot.

They have a lot of members from all walks of life, from hunters to law enforcement, casual target shooters to dedicated competitors. Despite recent pressures from Maryland legislation, Berwyn's membership remains strong and may even be growing larger as one of the few venues people can use for their hobby or career. The range itself is set in the woods of rural Bowie. Admittedly, it looks more like a Boy Scouts camp than a major high-tech range, but that's part of its charm. They have three "no sky" ranges, meaning there are baffles set to block any stray bullets that do not head down the range. A 50 foot, a 50 yard, and a 100 yard allow people to use whatever they need for their chosen firearms. As an outdoor range, you can expect to deal with weather and climate as well as insect life. I always check the forecast before deciding to head out there. As a private range, this is not accessible to the general public. To gain access you must send an e-mail asking about membership. Within a month, you will know if you are approved to join (I've never known anyone to be turned down). After that, you have access to the range, but must remember to follow all range rules, including proper safety, avoiding damage to the range, and cleaning up after yourself. If you're into firearms, for anything from hunting to marksmanship, and looking for a good range in the Prince George's and Arundel area, then I recommend looking into this place. Go to their website and check them out!
