I had a terrible experience with Maryland's Best Remodeling. I brought the problems to owner, Michael Criddle and he yelled and yelled at me. Please check references, reviews, MHIC history as well as criminal history. I posted a review on the contractor's FB page and my review got taken down. This contractor did not perform workmanlike work, please see pictures. Contractor damaged our home and did not repair. Contractor also failed to follow the contract, for instance, the installed ridge vent was not installed according to manufacturer specifications, the vent was not cut. Contractor also is demanding payment of late fees and the contract has no language for late fees. read more

We had two sliding doors and our front door replaced by Maryland's Best. The owner communicated when there was a delay with the production timeline of the front door (manufacturer delay, no delay from the contractor). The sliding doors open quietly/smoothly and no issues with the installation. I've had 3 different neighbors ask who installed the front door and continue to receive compliments. Everyone I ever spoke with at this company, from Mike to Jennifer to Rudy to Oscar, were very nice and well-intentioned, but their ability to schedule their work and to communicate with their clients is awful. I got a quote from Mike to repair water-damaged wood trim and to dry-in a deck last July, 2020. The quotes were good, so I contracted for the work. The wood trim replacement was sub-par, and trying to get it scheduled took several weeks. They attempted to just caulk over the rot, until I insisted that the wood be replaced. I've attached some pictures of the finished product - it's not very good "finish" work, didn't address all the issues as requested, and they left MDF shavings all over my driveway & garage that I'm still finding & cleaning up. The deck dry-in was even more challenging to schedule, but the finished product is very good; that's why the 3 stars instead of 2. After requesting that the work be done after the initial site visit & quote, they asked for a materials deposit of $2K, about 1/2 the cost of the work. I paid the deposit last November, but couldn't get anyone to come out & do the work through the spring & summer, until this past August! They told me several times they'd be out, then no one showed up. Then on a day I wasn't expecting them & had a doctor's appointment, they showed up with a whole work crew! The work was finally completed Nov 16th after several more no-shows on scheduled dates. They also stored the deck materials on the side of my house for a couple of months while they kept rescheduling/not showing up for the work - it killed all my grass and REALLY pleased my neighbors & HOA. If Maryland's Best can get a handle on their scheduling & client communication, they might have a shot at being a "best" company. read more

1A cautionary tale, check behind the work you have performed before you make final payment. If this company is "Marylands Best" I suggest seeking contractors from neighboring states for your work What started as a simple call about some flashing that came down turned into3 months of trying to have discrepancies in the installation of my new roof and gutters addressed. I was told by Mike in April that he would send a tech out to see if it was just a heavy wind that caused the flashing come down or an error in installation of the roof. I made the offer that if it was just a heavy wind I would pay for the service call, if it was an error I would not expect to pay and if it could not be determined then We split the cost of the service call. 3 weeks later still no call I got up on the ladder to reinstall the flashing and saw the attached photos . I have never seen shingles so sloppily tucked into gutters and trimmed around gutter hangars. I took pictures of the front roof, went around to the back to check to see if the shingles were installed in a similar fashion. Not only were the back shingles installed in the same fashion but I also saw a half inch of water at the butt end of the gutter. I put my 4 foot level on the gutter and sure enough there was no slope to the gutter meaning it would not drain properly. Note about the gutter initial gutter installation, after the back gutters were installed and the crew was installing the front as I went in the basement I noticed the downspout had been installed to close to the louvres of my dryer vent rendering the dryer vent inoperable. Fortunately the crew was still here and I was able to have the downspout reinstalled. May 19th I sent an email with the pictures to Marylands Best Remodeling through the email address on their website. May 21stafter not having been contacted I sent the same email to Jake ( Maryland's best remodeling job estimator). And received an email answer from Mike within 3 minutes he was out of town at a funeral would be back in town Monday and would be in touch. Next email from Mike was Tuesday stating guys would be out Wednesday... they did not make it. I sent the following email Thursday morning " Michael, The guys did not make it yesterday when can I expect them to come to finish the roof? Will this crew also be the ones who will be rehanging the gutter in the back of the house so it actually drains to the downspout rather than have water pooling at the butt end of the gutter?" Mikes answer "Guys will be there today." Notice not answer or acknowledgement of the question about the gutters. His guys did not show up until Saturday May 29th. There was no call or email to inform me they would be there that day. On Thursday June 3 I sent the following email as my phone calls and messages were not being returned to ask about the gutters. " Thank you for fixing the roof. When can I expect someone to be here to rehang the gutter in the back of the house with the proper pitch so the water actually flows to the downspout end instead of pooling at the butt end" On June 8th I sent the following email since again phone calls were not being returned," Mike, Ignoring the e-mails will not change the fact I am not satisfied with the job that was done in the hanging of our gutters. It was your gutter crew that did not trim the shingles but instead chose to "tuck" them into the gutters leaving shingles curled up exposing them to wind. It was your gutter crew that had I not checked behind them would have left my dryer vent inoperable had I not insisted reinstalling the downspout and it was your gutter crew who installed the gutters with no slope to them causing the gutters to not drain properly to the downspout creating a pooling of water at the butt end of the gutters in the back of the house. Do you have any plans on addressing this issue and returning a customer to the status of satisfied or do you prefer to have an outspoken dissatisfied customer? a Phone call or answer to this email would be a good place to start in the reparations of my view of Marylands Best Remodeling." Again there was no answer from Mike. I made phone calls and left messages because Mike was always" conveniently out of the office. They all went unreturned. July 2nd I sent an email with a deadline for response of July 7th, No response until July 8th that their subcontractor would be out the 10th. he showed up insisted nothing wrong with gutters/slope until watching 5 gallons of water poured into the gutter not drain. Tech fixed the slope issue. This should not have take 3 months to address. ALso had problems with a deck resurface and post replace job but the space allowed for review is too short to go into the details. Suffice it to say that the owner does not seem to communicate any better with his subcontractors than he does with his customers. read more

Maryland's Best did a stellar job on my roof replacement. Their price was the best for the quality we received. The materials arrived when expected, and the crew was here and working when promised. They even waited out a storm as it passed through and got back to work immediately. Most companies would have called it quits for the day. A number of people in my neighborhood have used them for their roofs, and there is good reason. Now you can tell which ones didn't because they stand out like a sore thumb! read more

Everything started out great. The owner came out quickly and gave us an estimate. We got 3 others and Maryland's Best came in with a great number. The day we were suppose to get the roof done, their truck was in an accident which I understand, things happen. The following day there was a family emergency, also understandable. Fast forward 3 days the crew that they had replace the other crew was replacing another roof. We wait again. The next reason they didn't come out was because of the rain which didn't start until 7pm, the day was actually sunny and clear. The next week it rained everyday, that I understand, you can't control nature. We were on the schedule for the following Monday, the crew came out and the materials were not there so they left, said they will be back the following day. When I drove by later that day no one was there. I called the office and they informed me that they had another roof on the schedule, which confused me since we were next in line. They said they will be out Thursday or Friday. Friday rolls around and I get an email saying our roof will not be done that day and they can POSSIBLY get to it sometime next week. We decided to ask for our deposit back which they did return to us. Communication was poor, I always had to email or call to ask about our roof. This experience was a complete disaster. read more

It's been 7 months and I still can't believe it's mine!!!! Our kitchen was totally renovated, even knocked out wall between the dinning room and kitchen. The kitchen is totally amazing, more than I envisioned. Mike was such a pleasure to work with, and so helpful in making suggestions to choose cabinets, floors and granite counter tops. He was so patient and readily available to answer all my questions, which were quite often. Start to finish it was a great experience. Top notch customer service and craftsmanship.
