Update: S&K came out and cleaned all 5 skylights, inside and out. Their response to my concerns was speedy and very much appreciated! We hired S & K to replace our skylights (5). Two of the skylights installed were way too big, sitting up on the roof instead of the opening. They did comeback to install the correct size. My complaint is the fact that none of the skylights were cleaned before leaving. Adhesive is still on the glass as are the marks from installation. I have had replacement windows installed before (different company) and the windows were super clean with all of the label adhesive removed before the installers left the premises. read more

S&K Roofing - Thanks so much for responding to my text for help on a leak in our roof at a rental home immediately on a Friday night that turned out to be Saturday at 1:30 AM in France ! Ray called me right away(and followed up with me after the service call too!) and lined up Jose Mendez and his coworker Seravo(sp?) to come to the house early Saturday AM .they arrived and quickly went through a thoughtful and thorough "diagnosis " of the source of the leak - they started on the outside to no avail and then tracked it backwards from the leak to the roof inside and traced the cause to 2 improperly placed rusty nails in one of the shingles ( see the culprits in pic below ) - they replaced the one shingle as we fortunately had an extra box of them on site in a shed - and were on their way ! They gave me a good price and their installers did a very good job paying specific attention to making sure it was a water tight installation, patching concrete on the concrete wall, and did a super job in wrapping the window framing on the outside. A salesperson from S &K (Chris) came out to our property close to a month ago. He seemed knowledgeable and gave us brochures and his card with his contact info. However, he never reached back out to us to give us a quote nor did he respond to our emails. My husband and I just signed a contract with another company. After receiving quotes from 3 companies in the area, we opted to go with S&K to replace our roof. S&K's estimate was reasonably priced and comparable to the other companies, and we were impressed by S&K's reputation in the area. The roofing crew showed up promptly early in the morning to begin the project, and worked efficiently all day to complete our new roof, including replacing many old wood planks. We did have a few small follow-ups to address afterwards, but were pleased that S&K responded to us promptly (over a weekend) and sent out a team member the same day to address the issues. We had a leaking issue with a plate that was on our sunroom roof, installed by another company, which covered the area where a propane stove pipe was. We had a propane company come and re-caulk it, but it got worse. we've used S&K in the past so called. Sean Toms, operations manger, immediately came out. They replaced my roof one year ago. In August 2017 they came out because there was a trickle of water running down the side of the chimney. The next time it rained it didn't leak so I was like sweet it is fixed. Now the front of the chimney is leaking and they won't come out because they say it is the chimney and not the roof. Clearly by the pictures it is the roof. They are asking me to have a chimney inspection and well that cost money. If I have another roofer fix it I void my warranty with them. They are not reputable and they need to honor their promise to the customers. I am extremely disappointed. read more

I emailed S&K for an estimate. The following day, while no one was home, Sean stopped by because we hadn't connected my phone. He noticed that the repair was simply a matter of re-nailing some shingles and - wait for it - HE DID IT at no charge. What a nice surprise! He sent me an email letting me know he was in the area between jobs and stopped by, etc. I'm sure Sean noticed that the rest of the roof is nearing end of life, we'll likely have a much larger job in the near future and this will make us call him for that work (he's right!). If all you want done is a roof, call them and you will be happy. if you want them to put in a skylight and finish the job, run away as fast as you can. Apparently they install the skylight and install drywall in the attic and then put something called mud to patch the gaps. AND THEN THEY LEAVE IT soon after you are told that the drywall installer doesn't do drywall. There is no sanding, no clean up, no paint. There are uneven surfaces all over, clumps of mud and some spaces left untouched. To say it looks awful is a complete understatement. To make it worse when you question the end product, you are told that you were told that they do not finish the job. Would anyone hire a company if they were told that there is no finished product? And then you get to hire a handyman to complete the job and it looks amazing but of course it was several hundred more dollars. It is an awful day that after all the money you gave to a roofing company, all you can do is cry. read more

I have used S&K to replace my vinyl siding with insulated siding, windows and sliding doors. The sales representative was very mindful of HOA regulations and cooperated with me to make sure siding, window and door styles and colors were met. After struggling a few years with one of the new windows leaking, Sean Toms went out of his way to investigate the issue and, hopefully, has now executed the needed repairs to correct it. Approximately 4 years ago (May, 2019) my wife and I contracted with S&K for a new roof with skylights, new siding, and downspouts and gutters. Every aspect of the job was presice and professional. Don K.was very helpful in planning the job and made sure everything was done as agreed. Peter (team lead) and his crew were easygoing and experienced. We could not be happier with the outcome and continually recommend S&K to everyone. About one week ago I noticed a 'stone chip' in the siding (possibly from a mower) and called S&K to see if they could take a look. Sean T., Quality Control Manager came out, saw the problem and replaced the siding piece, so that you would never know there had been any problem. UPDATE!!!!!! Lie #1 - The responder told a LIE that I have not finished paying them. Check Angie's List where they told a separate story. On Angie's List they indicated that it took me a few years to pay them off. Which is true? Took me years or I "still owe them money"? I have in my possession AN EMAIL from the owner of the company THANKING me for for the fact that they were FULLY PAID. Have the email, listed below: It is dated May 17, 2012 and states: "Cathy, Thanks for the final payment! Have a great summer!!" Don Katzenberger" The email above PROVES that I paid 100%! These are dirty liars you are dealing with with these people. Cannot keep their lies straight! 2. Regarding the money, the initial fee was $100,000 (+) IMMEDIATELY after the work was complete, they got ALL that money! However, because THEIR employees put a bathroom in the wrong place in my home, the overall square footage increased significantly, kicking the fee up. In addition, some other errors that they made structurally kicked the price up. They ended up tacking $18,000 EXTRA onto my original fee! Because they left a hole in the addition when they were working on it and did not put up a sign of warning, one of my legs fell into the FLOOR ( I should have sued them for that!)..... I insisted they take some money off. However, who has $16,000 laying around AFTER paying out $100,000+? Long story short, I immediately paid them $6,000 extra and paid the balance over 2 or 3 years. BUT they got EVERY DIME. Again......I have the EMAIL in my possession from the owner THANKING ME for paying off the bill. They better be careful with these lies! Lie #2 - It's been 7 years. Um....it's been close to 6 years; however, the plumbing was put in wrong from the beginning. The "plumber" put in 2 toilets, 3 sinks and some other plumbing. ALL of it has been fixed by me paying real plumbers! It was put in wrong from Year 1. Lie #3 - He claims they "told me" it would cost money. Huh? They NEVER RESPONDED TO ME! They sent out a man twice to take pictures. Never got back to me and NEVER answered phone calls. NEVER was money discussed! Finally I emailed them and the owner told me to hire a plumber. I'm closing on a home sale soon and was running down a nit-picking Home Inspector discrepancy list prior to closing. After no luck with two other roofer companies (one only does full roof replacements, the other said the townhomes in my neighborhood are too high for him to be interested, lol. He recommended S&K as a good bet), I called S&K. I was completely pleased and impressed with the rapid and professional answer to my call. I was referred immediately to the Sales Manager/Coordinator, who listened to my needs and quickly said he could easily provide for them. He took down my information, and promised I'd hear from a technician in 24 to 48 hours. I heard from him in about two. Matt Thomas emailed me and said he thought he could be at the home in a day or two tops. We agreed I'd email him the pertinent excerpts from the Inspection Report for his background. I did. I was amazed when I got an email from him just after lunch the same day I'd sent that excerpt, and his email included before and after photos to demonstrate he'd already FINISHED. I was dumbfounded. I sang his praises in my thank you response email, and he simply said "that's how we roll at S&K" . . . Humble and gracious. I'm 60 years old. I can remember when this type of responsive professionalism was NOT so rare. That memory is very old, haha. It was refreshing and very very fulfilling to get this sort of service... When we had a minor problem, I again called s &k thinking they would come. They refused to come since I did not go with them for the entire roof. We recently used S&K to have our roof replaced. The price was competitive but the biggest plus was NO PROBLEMS! I left for work at 5:15am and when I returned home at 4:30 the roof was finished. The crew they sent out was sufficient for the job, they cleaned up better than expected and they didn't try to add any extras (like plywood) that I didn't need. Roofs aren't cheap but it's a necessary evil of owning a home. I'd rather have spent the money of something "fun" but it doesn't always work that way! So at least I got a hassle free transaction with them. Don (owner) and his staff were very courageous and honestly, they didn't come across like used car salesmen or those roof guys that go door to door. Warning if you use this company be prepared to be overcharged. Had loose piece of siding at the roof apex. Guy said it was easy and took him 5 minutes. However, it wasn't that simple they charge $375. That over $75 dollars minute. Word of advise, don't trust companies that advertise in the HOA newsletter. The work was great, so that's not the problem. And I see a bunch of glowing reviews, so I'm sure I'm the odd one. Basically, had some wind damage to my house. They came out and gave a quote, as did my insurance company, State Farm. SF told me to give their quote to my sales guy, and have him compare to make sure everything was included on it. I don't know exactly what I'm looking at, I'm not a roofing / siding expert, so I asked my sales guy to take a look and ensure everything is included. He said all is good. I later found out that the siding wasn't included, and got an additional bill for $500 to fix that. If I hadn't asked the question, I would totally say my fault, however I went to John and asked if everything was included and he told me it was. When I talked to him after the fact, it was "sorry, it was in the contract." Thanks a lot, I realized that, which is why I asked the question (which he said he remembers me asking). Again, not an expert on this so thought asking the expert would be the right thing to do, apparently I was mistaken. read more

I hired them to do our roof and replace 2 skylights and it was a huge mistake! They gave me an inexperience crew, who, didn't protect my roof when it decided to rain. Got another crew in and still had 2 leaks. The skylights they replaced I had them to come out twice to fix and its still not fixed right. Very poor customer service and not competitively priced. To begin with, they quoted us a price $100 more than a local competitor for the same, minor, work (a 75% increase). Because the price was high, my husband and I decided we would have our home warranty (not our insurance company, mind you) cover the repair. We've done this before with a couple other things we got done and it's not a big deal. The home warranty requires that the contractor call a toll-free number so they can speak with a representative just to help set up the claim (we make the first call, though). As a witness to this call before, its is a brief (5 min, max) call where they ask the contractor rep a few basic questions ("are you bonded and insured?", for instance). Neither of the two contractors we've used for other repairs had any problems doing it. This morning, my husband got a call at 7:45 from Charlie at S&K Roofing to follow-up on the quote they gave us yesterday. My husband was okay with proceeding and explained to Charlie about the Home Warranty company needing to have a brief conversation with him and if he could do it (our claim cannot be fully processed without this call from them). Charlie remarked that he's "been in the business for 10 years and never had to do this before". My husband assured him that it is a brief call and, aside from that, S&K would not have any further contact with the home warranty company. We would pay S&K directly, they wouldn't have to wait on anything. My husband asked, "You're not willing to make that call?" to which Charlie responded, "No and that is all" and *hung up on him*! I heard his side of the call, he was not rude, he was not short with Charlie, he wanted to give them our business. With higher prices and poor customer service I do not recommend using S&K Roofing. Added: I really don't want to get into a back-and-forth with someone online, but given the response, I'll just say that when I hear my husband talking and then saying, "Hello?... Hello?... Hello?" then, yes, he was hung up on. Given that, I'm sure you can imagine the tone of the customer service preceding that. read more
