If you like the sweet drinks at Starbucks then this place will blow your mind. I tried the iced Girl Scout Cookie, which basically tastes like a thin mint. Also tried the iced Peanut Butter Wonderful which was a mix of mocha and peanut butter, as odd as it sounds it quite delicious. The Girl Scout Cookie has the edge but I wouldn't turn either one away. This is my go-to coffee place. The main reason I stopped frequenting Dunkies is because the coffee is so inconsistent. Delicious one day. Complete grossness the next day. I was constantly chasing that delicious coffee high! Thankfully, Marylous' coffees are always consistently amazing! I have tried a few of the multitude of flavored coffees they offer, but I always find myself going back to the Peanut Butter Cup iced. So good. So I am in search of a local coffee shop that isn't Dunkin Donuts-in Boston, I know- this will be difficult. NOT a fan of "Char"Bucks as they tend to overroast their coffees in my opinion and in light of recent events, they will never see me again anyway (the arrest of two young black males doing exactly what white customers do: sit and meet people). Since my return home to Boston four years ago, my absolute favorite coffee is found at Market Basket, which does NOT sell the coffee they brew. Also, my nearest Market Basket locations are in Brockton or Chelsea, almost 25 minutes equidistantly. So the conundrum is finding a good brew nearby. My boyfriend, not a coffee drinker, mentions Marylou's based on commercials he has seen so I drive to Quincy and the shop is CUUUUUUTE! Everything is bright, clean and PINK! I love the neighborhood vibe of it all and it even sits on the corner of a five-point intersection in a small white-house-type building with a convenience store attached. I went in rather early on Saturday morning and although there was only one woman ahead of me, it took a while for the 5 baristas(?) - can you call them that if it isn't Starbucks?- to acknowledge me, which is a personal pet peeve. They did have a wide selection of flavors and once I was served, it was flooded with high school athletes, nearby ambulance drivers/EMTs and fathers so I figured that was a good sign. In the final analysis, the coffee was better than Dunks but not as good as Market Basket so I'm back to Square One. read more

I don't normally write reviews but I work in food service so I know how far a good word can go. I've never had a bad experience here, but today I had an exceptionally good one. I always order a drink and apparently I don't word it right so the girl behind the counter just I suppose made what she thought I meant. Today when I went in I tried ordering it and they had no idea what I was talking about and I was lost. They made me what they thought I might like and it just wasn't what I was used to and I was kind of upset but I felt bad so I walked out. I came back in to get cream to try and make it more my style and they made me an entirely new drink which was PERFECT and exactly what I wanted and told me how to order it in the future. If I had cash on me I would've thrown a twenty in there. So, so kind and helpful as well as friendly (and even apologetic at no fault of their own). Love the coffee, love the workers even more. I was visiting my girlfriend in Boston and she said I had to try this coffee! When I got inside everything was pink. They had so many choices of coffee I didn't know what to get. She ordered all of her friends coffee because they wanted it too so I was able to try each one of their specialty iced coffee's. I tried the chocolate coconut, Twix, and peanut butter wonderful. They were all so good but the one flavor caught my eye. The extra specialty turtle flavor coffee! The specialty ice coffee was just flavored coffee with Swiss mix I believe. The extra specialty coffee came with whip cream on top and I'm assuming cream and sugar. I don't usually get cream and sugar but I thought it was going to come black like the other iced coffee's did. It was still really good but it was really sweet. If I go back again I would definitely just get a black specialty coffee. It definitely adds flavor to your coffee rather than just a boring black coffee. read more

Over the years this place has become very irritating, to be pregnant & want something so bad & to go and get it while employees have attitude & rolling their eyes to then charge you for a coffee & a bagel to then not make sure anyone is making the bagel or better yet checking if they have the bagel of your choosing in stock to then say they only have one type of bagel & refuse to give you a refund is crazy to me. I worked here for damn near 3 years & not once did I ever encounter such behavior as I have been experiencing recently. To let a customer leave upset & not satisfied was never tolerated when I was employed here. Y'all need to work on your facial expressions & treating customers with respect, your never forced to work anywhere you don't want to it's a free country & you have free will. Customer service has gone way down hill at the Willard St store. Constantly see early morning employee act so rude to customers as if we have interrupted her at home. The pandemic is not an excuse when you are serving essential workers...and rude to them. Also never seen her wash her hands, even after wiping coffee off the floor . I just happen to think their regular flavors are amazing on their own. Banana Nut Cream, Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble , Cinnamon Hazelnut and Twix are the favorites. My friend made me come here on the way to a field trip thing for work. Told me everyone on the south shore goes here. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe I have spoiled all this time on the north shore. I was picturing a nice cafe type place with food and a zillion flavors of coffee. Doable. Wrong. We walked in and it's a long line of busy, very friendly, workers prepping a bunch of coffee drinks. I didn't see a food menu anywhere, so my friend just ordered a sausage breakfast sandwich. I ended up buying a zone bar because I wasn't about to eat a sandwich when there was an open bag of frozen sausage patties hanging out on the counter. Clearly coffee is the center of this place, not food. I just found the whole experience to be kind of sad and disappointing. I kind of hate Dunks and will go there in a pinch. Tons of flavors but I only tried the cinnamon hazelnut. The coffee is good and has great flavor. The roast is also good and doesn't have that burnt taste. I think it was a little over hyped but overall the coffee was still tasty. read more

Thank God, Moses, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Zeus, Satan or whoever the hell it is that you worship that Marylou's is making its way closer to Boston. It's the most heavenly (or sinister - all depends on how you view things) creation known to man. Some, well, most of their blends can't exactly be consumed every day, that is unless you're looking to acquire a spare tire or Type II Diabetes. But on those extraordinarily horrible days when you're in dire need of a pick-me-up, treat yourself to the sugary haven of a "Caramel Lou," "Twix," or "Milky Wey" coffee. Once you take that first sip, it's really hard to make it last because your taste buds won't stop anticipating the next one. Do them a favor and get your very own medium specialty blend (24oz.). Your initial reaction might be "Woah! That's WAY too sweet." But trust me, you'll keep sucking it down and it'll be gone before you know it. I've made the mistake of sharing one with my boyfriend on a few occasions, and it usually only lasts about 5 minutes and ends in a fight. I'm sure they have normal coffee that can be consumed on a regular basis, but I've never had the luxury of trying it because I live too far away to get anything but a long-awaited specialty blend. *tear* Boston needs a Marylous's ASAP. And then it needs to creep up to the northern 'burbs, then to NH, then to Maine, and then to Canada, until it eventually takes over the world. Yeah, it's THAT good. read more

Marylou's earned their two star rating by having great service from their staff but the absolute worst coffee I have ever had. It was not strong, very watery, and hardly had any flavor. We got an iced coffee with blueberry cinnamon crumble and another one with cinnamon hazelnut. Both taste like water!! We also got a pistachio muffin that was great. But spending $10 on two waters and a muffin isn't right. I would have liked to given more stars because the staff was kind and the muffin was excellent but as a coffee shop, I really feel that the coffee should be much better.... It really was awful... This is the third time coming to this location and all three times I have been disappointed and will not be coming back. I'll stick to my Starbucks, Honey Dew, and Market Basket coffee. read more

I grew up on the North Shore, so maybe we have different tastes in what real coffee should taste like. This is beyond disgusting. I've tried Milky Wey (Milky Way?), Tiramisu (vomit), and Funny Bone (gross). Milky Way SLIGHTLY resembles the flavor of the actual candy, I will give it that...but it still tastes awful. Tiramisu tasted like extremely watered down sugar water. And Funny Bone was smothered in whipped cream and chocolate syrup that I didn't even ask for. Still didn't make the coffee taste any better. Sorry, I asked for coffee, not dessert. Also, why are the coffees just sitting in what appears to be old Poland Spring water jugs on the shelves? No wonder why it is lacking in flavor, it's stagnant. I don't understand the slogan "Best Coffee in Town"...maybe it is? But I also cannot stand Dunkin Donuts and I would rather chug their sugar water than Mary Lou's sugar water anyday. When my cousin and I went to Nantasket Beach a couple years back, even she was grossed out by the coffee. My boyfriend was like "what is this crap?!" from our recent Cape Cod trip. 1 star for the service in the Hyannis location - the girl was really nice. I wonder if she would've refunded me after I walked back in from my first sip of whatever the hell Tiramisu coffee she handed me. Hull and Quincy locations: the staff seemed too stuck up to serve me and my cousin coffee. Sorry, but if you hate your job, quit it. Never coming back. I had a coffee black which tasted awful. it honestly resembled gas station coffee where the pot sits and evaporates for days. there was no flavor, i had to wag my tongue several times just for my mouth to recover. (Harsh but true) I love coffee and am always on the hunt for a good spots everywhere i go. I was recommended here for the best cup of coffee in Quincy. Instead, i found a place serving flavored syrup that just happens to have "coffee" mixed in. This place serves some pretty bad coffee especially for a coffee shop claiming to be the best in town. yet, this place gets a lot of traffic. i believe it must be the different flavors of syrup they have available to mix with coffee. if you're into that, this is the place for you. but please stay away if you're a devout coffee purist. bottom line: if you like coffee for coffee, please don't come here. I usually stop by whenever I'm in town from Miami. The iced girl scout cookie is to die for and it tastes exactly like a like a thin mint. With every sip you can taste the mint chocolate twerking on your taste buds. There are so many flavors that every time I want to try something new, the girl scout cookie persuades me otherwise. I wish there were more locations north of this one along 93N, but on most days, its well worth the drive. read more

I'm generally a "Dunker", and I live on the North Shore where there aren't too many Mary Lou's- but whenever I'm in the South Shore area I like to try it for great service and an exciting change of pace. I guess what I enjoy the most about MaryLous's, is the bevy of delicious flavors, and the fact that they flavors are brewed into the coffee versus being added as a shot or syrup like most places. Some of the flavors are truly exotic- like yesterday I faced the difficult decision of " Butterscotch" or "Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble". There's probably 20+ choices at any time. The staff is always very nice, and I've tried the pastries a few times and never been disappointed either. This location is easy to miss as it kind of blends in with a convenience store, but it's actually very convenient to the highway if you know where it is. read more

Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! I am a COFFEE SNOB and This is the best place ever. First of all everything is pink which i love. Because I love pink. When you walk in the staff is a bunch of incredibly helpful young girls with no attitude like you'd expect. and if they're not helping you they're working hard refilling coffees, grinding beans, or helping each other out. It was so good so to see what a great business they were running. I don't think any manager was there watching them either. I had never been there and was overwhelmed by the selections of all the different iced coffees (milky way, peanutbutter cup, cinnamon hazelnut fluff etc etc) I went with the cinnamon hazelnut fluff and my friend went with a regular iced coffee (black which is a great way to take how the coffee really is - and it's great! and i hate black coffee!) When they rang us up i thought it was going to be so much more than it was but it SO cheap! They hot cups are pink and fun and the iced cups/drunks are fancy and pretty. I really loved this place. They also sell their delicious coffee by the beans in pretty pink bags but Im not sure if it's fairly traded etc. I hope it is. but if not, it doesn't take away from how GOOD this coffee is. Their eating selection/pasteries didnt seems that great but apparently thats not their thing so I will not take a star away. been buying drip ground decaf coffee from ML for about 10 years at the supermarket. they used to sell 16oz bags then they started selling 11oz bags. then I saw a sale just before Christmas for free shipping so I ordered a bunch of bags. it took about a month for them to arrive. I was surprised to see they shipped me 16oz bags. Thinking I got a great deal. Then I started using the coffee and it was terribly weak. the coffee is like water. Whatever they sold me was not the quality I get from the supermarket. I'm obviously very dissatisfied and Would never purchase coffee from MaryLous.com ever again. read more

Marylous is to adults is what bottles are to babies. Your having a tough day, kinda grumpy, in a funk and just need a pick me up. Along comes marylous and you order it, you watch some cute girl make your coffee, she hands it to you and you put the straw in your mouth. You then realize that your mouth doesnt want to let go, its stuck, and you just continue to suck away. Your problems just kinda float away and things are bliss. Marylou's is the genius mashup of homey-ness, friendly girls, and sweets in a cup. Their location literally looks like a house. Marylou's coffee is not coffee, but in fact sweet coffee product. (And I say this in a good way.) You're paying more for the sugary, sweet concoctions that they mix than necessarily the quality of coffee that they brew. But considering everything tastes pretty freaking delicious, I am more than okay with that! I love the Peanut Butter Wonderful. It is indeed wonderful. And so peanut buttery! My boyfriend loooves the Kahlua. I do agree with other reviewers that this is more of a "treat" than everyday coffee. These drinks have bucket loads of sugar in it! Wow. The boys sure love Marylou's! Could it be the rapid and efficient service, even at 8:30am? Could it be the wealth of flavours on offer? Could it be the affordable nature of a medium hot coffee and a sizeable pastry? Or could it be the fact that all the girls who work here are SUPER cute, super smiley, appropriately curvy and flirty without seeming 'available' (kinda like the bartenders of Coyote Ugly)? I know why *I* come here, but I also appreciate that serving the best damn coffee in all of Boston is often not enough to persuade EVERYone to come by. It's a smorgasbord of coffee flavours. Hot, cold, extra cream, extra foamy, extra syrup, mixed brews. You can choose their flavour of the day, you can come by often enough that they remember which is YOUR flavour of the day. There's an ATM in the corner for those who like to pay in cash, but plastic is the best way to get in and out the door, with your steaming hot coffee, within 4 minutes during rush hour. The parking lot is ALWAYS full, but if you hang around for a heart beat, a space will open up. RIGHT next to the highway, and a gas station, and the 215 bus route to/from Quincy/Ashmont. YAY... Mary Lou's has moved north to Quincy! I've long been a fan (being a South Shore girl) and am so happy I don't have to deal with route 3 for my pink cup fix! I get pounds to go for my daily AM cup @ home and stop by for some icy refreshment as needed. Another love is their "guide to creaminess"- a picture representation to how to the correct adjective to communicate your desired amount of dairy (ie: "dark"... "regular"... "light"... "extra light")- takes the guesswork out and pretty much ensures you won't have to ask for a smidge more cream- it's the little things, folks! Yea, I don't get what all the fuss is about re: their hiring practices. The coffee is good, not much different than DD, but it's no Peets. It is pretty convenient if you want to jump off the expressway then get back on. And, the one thing they manage to do better than the competition is get you in and out in less than 2 minutes. Nothing worse than seeking a line of coffee deprived zombies, counting their fingers for the 4th time, or paging through their Crackberry for anything of interest, as the DD drones fumble around behind the counter. Most craveworthy coffee, hands down. Minty Lou and Girl Scout Cookie haunt my dreams (in a good way) and it's so worth the drive down to Quincy, though I don't make it here too frequently. Many people have said they want a Marylou's in the city, but I do not. The last thing I need is the realistic option of drinking their coffee daily (or even weekly). I'd prefer to keep it as a treat and only have it once in a while. It's too good to overdo. Funny tidbit about this location; I was walking out of the perfect pink coffee haven when a small, rotund young boy jingle-jangled a cup with coins and quietly squeeled like piglet from Winnie the Pooh "excuuuuuusse meeeeeee..." hoping to get donations for something. I turned him down because I paid with a card, but I can still hear his voice in my head to this day and hope to run into that lil man again. read more
