I grew up coming to this place. My Grandparents lived right down the street on Congress when they were alive and me and my sister would walk here to get something every time we were visiting from Florida. Back when kids could walk around alone. It is the best coffee in town. So many memories there. I have to get my fix when I visit the rest of my family that still lives there. Absolutely fantastic coffee and other treats. I love Marylou's! And to the deluded "Amanda H" below me claiming there might be sexism because all females work there... I had been frequenting this location but after two employees made homophobic comments towards me, while I was standing in the shop. I feel deeply uncomfortable coming back. I am not gay, just an alternative woman but I cannot in good conscience give them any more of my money. read more

This place sucks! They have counters with stools along the windows but NO wi-fi and NO bathroom. The place smells awful and there is an exhaust fan going that is really loud. The ordering area is cluttered with baked goods, cereal, and paraphernalia, and one has to shout to be heard over the exhaust fan. First couldn't figure out if they were open as half the lights were off and at least one parking lot entrance was blocked by orange cones. Once inside I still wasn't sure as it seemed like I was bothering the young ladies who were getting ready for the day. Coffee was decent as usual but the danish was stale. Napkin dispensers were empty. I asked for a couple napkins and got a fee with barely an acknowledgment. This review is specifically referring to the location on the intersection of 53 and 14 in Pembroke. (Sometimes reviews get mixed up when there are multiple locations.) OK all you fans out there... what the heck is the appeal of this place? Despite the tremendous selection of coffee flavors, the coffee is not good. I can't speak for those coffee drinks that look like dessert as those are not my thing. The staff, at this location, looks miserable and always seems bothered by customers. I have been in here a handful of times, and I have never encountered a pleasant person. There are usually several girls behind the counter, chatting away. Without fail, they all look over, one will slowly walk to where I am waiting and ask, "Can I help you?" -- no smile and definitely looking very agitated. Nice... doesn't make already bad coffee any better. You would think with the controversy surrounding their hiring practices, they would at least include customer service skills as a required asset. The past couple months the coffee here has been super watery for the specialty drinks i get- copa banana, twix or creamy choc coconut. The extra specialtys though aren't as watered. I don't get it. I've been reading others reviews and it seems like the diluted coffee problem is becoming widespread in multiple locations. I always stop at Marylou's when I'm on the Cape. I really wish they'd expand closer to my area (or even into Boston). I'm usually pleased with them, but this time the service was horrible. As always, they have a great selection of coffee. They also sell cute memorabilia, muffins, bagels, and take home ground coffee (which is great). Today, they weren't busy at all but the woman behind the counter really failed. She didn't understand our orders and we had to repeat them. Then, she didn't understand how to give us proper change (it was 5 something so we gave her $21 and she kept trying to hand $1 back, ugh) and then she put a ton of sugar in our coffees after we had twice told her, 'No sugar'. We had to wait for her to come back and acknowledge us to get them re-done and you could tell she wasn't happy about it. Neither coffee tasted that great, and I'm pretty sure she didn't give us the right flavors the second time around but at that point we weren't going back. It's a shame- I guess I'll have to avoid this location in the future. read more

Not being a Massachusetts native, I have to admit that Marylou's is an acquired taste. The decor is cloying and the coffee menu is overwhelming . . . like, their categorization of iced coffee flavors is more complex and non-intuitive than the homeland security color warning system. What is the difference between gourmet, specialty, extra specialty, and funky fanabla? Is there a funky fanabla plus? Wtf is a fanabla? All of that said, once you get past the fact that you're not ordering an expertly roasted perfectly balanced pour over coffee (but instead, a candy bar in a cup), Marylou's is pretty fun. On a good day, a Twix or Chocolate Almond or Butterfinger coffee really hits the spot, playing double duty for a caffeine fix and dessert. However, minus one star for their maybe-kind-of-sexist-but-maybe-not-but-in-any-case-really-weird-and-uncomfortable-use-of-pretty-young-girls marketing scheme. And minus one star for the inconsistency at this location. I've ordered the exact same flavor on consecutive days here, and had totally different cups of coffee. Sometimes the flavored coffees have a stale and bitter aftertaste that all of the sugar and chocolate syrup in the world can't cover. Otherwise, go get your funky fanabla cinnamon hazelnut fluff on. read more

Absolutely the best coffee period! Not only does the coffee taste great but the taste of it is consistently the same. Unlike dunkin donuts where one day it will be bitter, the next day it will be weak, the next day it will be burnt, and on the fourth day you'll get a medium hazelnut when you ordered a large regular. In my 10+ yrs of going to Marylou's they've never gotten my order wrong. One of the best things is that the coffee is usually the perfect drinking temperature when you get it instead of being scalding hot like you get at other places. read more

I am a fan of the "funky fanabla" (despite its cheesy name). It is a mixture of many sugary and filling ingredients so don't attempt to drink this after a meal. Marylou's is the best coffee you can get- better than Starbucks, better than Dunkin Donuts, better than all of them! Costs a little bit more than you'd expect, but it is worth every penny. My personal favorite is the Girl Scout Cookie Ice Coffee. Iced coffee that tastes like a thin mint? Can't go wrong. They have a large array of options that it will take you forever to decide, and once you get one that you love, you'll always be torn between trying something new and sticking to the old favorite. WORST Mary Lou's I have ever been too. Lately I have been going here out of convenience and every time I become more and more disappointed. The hot coffee always is tasteless and burnt. The speciality coffees taste either watery or waaaay too sugary/syrupy. I used to work at Mary Lou's so I feel as though I know what they should taste like. The girls are quick, dismissive and rude. Someone handed me a coffee this morning In the drive thru that was literally over flowing and I then didn't know how to even hold it without my hand getting sticky and gross. No napkins were offered, and I was too impatient to try and deal with a bitched out worker so I drove away. Nonetheless the girls that work here need a major attitude adjustment. Who wants there morning to start off this way? They better figure it out or people will start using employee names and become more outspoken. read more
