On our second day in Chetek we went out in search of breakfast and our friends who have been coming here for years recommended Mary's Cafe & Pub. And so, we ended up here and we're immediately seated! Alyssa took our drink orders, Coffee all around, while we studied the menu and the specials board! My wife decided to get the morning special: 2 Eggs, Sausage Patties, and Toast for $5.50; a couple of us ordered the Bacon Cheddar Omelette with Hash Browns and Toast and added Onions and Cheese to the Hash Browns,; and one ordered Strawberry Pancakes! Alyssa made sure our coffee was filled. As we were finishing up they wrote the lunch specials on the board and we were tempted to just stay on for lunch. There is not much to say about Mary's other than it has consistently good food, reasonable prices and friendly staff. It gets very crowded during Chetek's peak season in the summer, so wait times are longer then, but that is to be expected if you have half a brain! read more

We've been coming here on and off over the many years we've been visiting the Chetek area. We come here for the breakfast only, and our choice is the Mary's Supreme. Perfect hashbrowns topped with cheese and more than enough to fill you up. If you order pancakes--all you will need is one I'll betcha! We cut ours in half and folded it over and at that point it was about an inch and a half high. Boy does it soak up the syrup--and it's so light and fluffy! The waitress is always ready for refilling your coffee along with the usual good service. It was funny over hearing her say that she hates the smell of coffee because she's around it all day long and doesn't drink a drop off that stuff. I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but I found it just right. I'm always intrigued by the map of the Chetek chain of lakes painted on the ceiling--it's been there since 1983. I finally figured out that the perspective and angle I need is as if I was hovering over the building and looking down on a transparent ceiling. Then North is where it should be, with Prairie Lake off to the left and West, while Pokegama is over to the right and East of town. Mary's is my family's go-to spot for breakfast when we're at our cabin. It's a small restaurant & bar that serves up solid, comforting breakfast food at an insanely low price. As in, nothing on the menu is over $7, and the highest priced item is steak & eggs for $6.95. I usually rotate between the corned beef hash (served extra crispy, the way I like it) and the Mary's Supreme, which is a mountain of hash browns covered with peppers, ham, onions, and cheese, topped with an egg and served with salsa. Yum! If you're in the Chetek area, I highly recommend this breakfast joint. read more

Wanted to check this place out for breakfast but after waiting for almost 20 min with not ONE staffer acknowledging our existence......we left. I get it that places can get busy but a quick "hello, we'll be with you as soon as possible" goes a long way. read more

The best breakfast in town! I used to go to bobs grill as a child this is way better in quality and portions. The buttermilk pancakes are the best and are the size of a plate. The prices are good overall. The only downfall is that it's a cafe by day and night is a bar. No pancakes at night very disappointing! Waiting staff is polite and quick to help. It is self serve seating. Could use a remodel as far as interior. Lighting is on the darker side cause it is a bar. Haven't tried the food at night but Iam sure it tastes great! But Overall great place to stop. read more

Well I sort of half expected this from someone here in Chetek but not a business owner. We went to Mary's last night to meet a few friends and the owner was sitting at the end of that bar talking to a few people and yelled across the bar to a friend who lives in town and I quote " I can't hear over those faggots that are in between us " I was upset to say the least also our friends were disgusted about the whole thing. Breakfast is the only meal I've tried at Mary's and boy does it keep me coming back! I have ordered the Cornedbeef Hash, Mary's Supreme (hashbrowns with onions, peppers and cheese), pancakes, and eggs. All were cooked to perfection! The service is outstanding - prompt and pleasant. The decore is quite dated, but who cares - the price is very reasonable and the food wonderful. What a way to start your day! read more

Had a short visit to Chetek and our uncle brought us here for breakfast. We sat ourselves at a table in the back. It took the waitress a while to come over but once she did she was super nice. It took a long time for the food to come out, much longer than I expected but perhaps it was busy. I ordered the three French toast which wasn't anything extra special however the bacon on the side was a nice portion. I'm glad there is a few reviews for breakfast here, but shocked that no one has commented on the evening fare! The Prime Rib Sandwich (Thursday night special) is one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth! My husband and I went there for breakfast this morning and we were very displeased. When we got there they were busy but we were seated right away and the waitress never mentioned it would be a long wait so we figured maybe 30 mins? Shortly after we came in and ordered a very obnoxious group of people sat next to us. Their kids were running around screaming and the adults were ignoring them. The adults were too busy talking very loudly about boners and people going to jail and swearing instead of watching their kids. I was very upset that two different waitresses witnessed this behavior and neither one of them said anything. What about the rest of your customers?? After waiting 55 mins for our food my husband asked the waitress if it would be coming soon and she brought it right over(an hour after we ordered it). We were thankful it finally came because at this point we just wanted to get out of there. As you can imagine we were very upset when my hash browns were raw and cold when they finally came. My husband told the waitress and she had me scrape them on a separate plate and then took the price of the hash browns off our bill. We were so displeased that we got to go boxes and left immediately, but not before the trashy group next to us started bad mouthing us because my husband and I were talking to each other about how disappointed we were that it took so long and the hash browns weren't cooked. I was worried we might get attacked by the zoo animals while we were leaving because they were acting so obnoxious and saying rude things to us and about us, maybe it's because they were drinking at 10 am that they thought it was necessary to act this way? I was very shocked that the staff would let this kind of behavior go on in an establishment that has elderly people and children and we will not go back there because of this. read more
