Tucked in behind Kisenwhether's Service Center and all its big semis and trailers, Mary's is that building off to the left with an "open" sign in the window. The only indication that you are looking at the right place is the sign out by the road whispering, "Mary's Family Restaurant." Once inside, the 1970's luncheonette styled joint, is pleasantly dated with small counter and a dozen of so booths. The menu is mimeographed and placed within plastic pockets with the three meal menus, that are also standards from yesteryear. We also discovered once seated and chatted up by Kim, the service person, that breakfast was no longer available at noon, so my desire for chicken fried steak went unsatisfied, and a very good half pound burger took its place. Only a slight temporary disappointment. As mentioned, the California Burger was hand formed and grilled just beyond the requested medium, but still tasty and satisfying. The side of fries were likewise above decent in crispness and quantity. Our other order of Chicken Tenders was similarly adequate to the task in texture and chew. We left Mary's to continue on our adventure to Wellsboro and The Grand Canton of Pennsylvania, sufficiently filled for the first meal of the day, and thanking Kim for her friendly service. 3.5 STARS read more

The food was delicious and the homemade pies were so yummy! All menu items are made to order! Very affordable and easy access off the interstate. We got the Salisbury steak, open face turkey sandwich, two kids meal cheeseburgers and fries. The chicken and rice soup was yummy and the coconut cream pie was all gone in a minute. This is your traditional family diner. I have had breakfast there before, you always get good service, by what seems to be experienced waitresses... Continuously refilling your coffee, and making sure you have everything you need. The wait is minimal for your food, the food is always good. Stopped by for for breakfast. I'm from north Jersey so I wanted to try something different. I had the country fried steak with sausage gravy breakfast platter. It was pretty good. Staff is friendly and very attentive. Always came around if I wanted refill on my coffee and asking " how is everything? " For breakfast I'd recommend this place. read more

Stellar family restaurant. My 93 year old grandmother got the liver and onions and declared it perfect. My mother got the pork BBQ & was quite happy. My father & I both got the cheeseburger medium rare. He brought his own gluten free bun, which they were happy to microwave. The burger was juicy and exactly done. The fries were crisp. The coleslaw was creamy. And the mother-loving coconut cream pie (which my mother & I both got) was definitely homemade. Total win. read more

hands down, THE BEST sausage gravy and biscuits I've ever had. I stayed around this area for almost a year before I realized this place was here. It's set off from the road behind a truck repair shop, and if you blink you'll miss it. We stopped in on a lark one morning, and now I have a new favorite breakfast place. This place makes crappy food that looks and tastes like when K-mart had a counter with one person working serving 8 people. The difference here is the prices are 4 times the amount, are crazier, and the help is slow. One waitress, one cook 9 tables and to go. They are cheap too, if you want a menu have your phone to take pictures or your out of luck. Mary's Family Restaurant is a regular stop for us, especially for breakfast. They have a variety of foods on menu, weekend breakfast specials, fast friendly service and quality, homemade food. The location is convenient on Route 309 in Drums, just off Route 80. It is not in a "scary location" as reported by an earlier reviewer, and we have NEVER had a rude waitress and we've been there dozens of times. I highly recommend this diner-like restaurant. Hard to find anything to eat off i80 west but Mary 's saved the day. Simple and good and breakfast all day. Omelette with home fries and English muffin with lashings of butter. My daughter and I just left this place. This place has the worst service in history. Ok, we went for breakfast, both of us getting an egg platter. Seriously it takes what, under 10 minutes to fry a couple of eggs? Even if they were waiting for the chickens to lay the morning eggs, it shouldn't have taken as long as it did with 3 people working. 45 minutes later, EVERYTHING was cold when it did finally arrive.. We had other people come in AFTER us and get their food (consisting of mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables and steak) before us. I will never go to this place again. If the food was good, I might be able to overlook the shoddy service. However, every single thing on our plates was so bland, i could have went to the service station next door and gnawed on cardboard from their parts delivery guy for something with more flavor. read more

Considering the area, this is about as good of a middle-of-nowhere-Pennsylvania-right-off-the-expressway restaurant as you can find. The food was solid and could stand up next to any family restaurant food. Got the Western omelette and got more food than I bargained for. Toast was incredible (perfect chewy to crunchy ratio), home fries were awesome, but the omelette was subpar. The coffee refills were quick and service was fast. On a Monday morning around 9, the place was packed with (I'm assuming) the same regular old folks as every other day. It's easy to fall in love with small town Pennsylvania by spending an hour here. Traditional Family Type Restaurant. One of the waitresses has an attitude but the tiny one with the blondish hair and soft voice is very polite and a hard worker it seemed. The cooks take their time but the food comes out great. Definitely not a stop for those looking for a quick in and out but definitely worth the wait if you have time.
