Chicken over rice with peppers and garlic sauce
    Jocelyn N.

This family owned restaurant is considered a local staple for a reason. Every item on the menu is authentic and consistent -- my husband had been here years ago and said the lamb over rice (his favorite) was just as good as he remembered. They had kid friendly items like chicken tenders and hamburgers and our kids loved the Syrian bread that's brought out before the meal. The grape leaves were some of the best I had and I also loved my chicken over rice. I highly recommend the garlic sauce. Our waitress was helpful with recommendations and it was very quiet inside -- there seems to be a lot of takeout orders. I'd definitely come back and try something new!

Wife's gyro, she loved it. Fries were HOT! And I finished off what she din't!

Went to Mary's in new castle. Literally best meal I've had here. In new castle I mean. It wasn't so-much the ingredients, they just nailed the execution. I got the lamb combo. I don't hate kibee, but I've never liked it. It makes a #### is all I could say for it. This is the fried kibee with bulgur wheat and meat shell, filled with more meat and wheat. Usually bland and overcooked. I like raw kibee, which is usually chopped beef when you eat out in new castle. But that stuff that's deep fried to briquet consistency? Mary's just nailed it. Cooked so the inside was hot and moist, shell wasn't a deep fried rock. Lamb and grape leaves as well. I like Little Damascus more, but this was pretty freaking good. The lamb was perfect. Perfectly medium rare, lightly seasoned, and had that grilled taste. Because it was actually grilled. Wife got lamb on the rod with rice. Delicious fluffy beautifully seasoned rice. And all the usual sides everyone gets at practically every restaurant and bar when you get lamb in new castle. Peppers in oil, hummus, a garlic sauce that will make you everyone's favorite person, and Syrian bread. Did I mention the name of the place is Mary's Restaurant and Bakery? I think. Mary's and Bakery are in the name for sure. They got great Syrian bread. And I don't like Syrian bread. (I'm a riddle wrapped in an enigma) Mary's was already my favorite place in new castle, which is saying something because I like a few places here. But where they beat every other place, and I mean anywhere, is the wait staff. They are always well staffed. And the staff are just great. They really do like their job, and the customers. Conversation, never rushed. Just they just take a genuine interest. Which is good for me because the wife likes to talk while I'm eating. Oh that was a joke, I was kidding. Seriously though. The servers and staff are just nice to be around. From the moment you walk in the door to when you leave. Adding todays pics to a previous review. Yes, I like the place. For a reason. And that reason is food, service, setting (beautiful inside, and pretty cool out as well) and another place that is consistently excellent.

    Raw Kibbie

Everything. Services quick and attentive. Very friendly servers. Food was authentic mid eastern and delicious. The raw Kibbie ( which I have rarely if ever seen on a menu) was very good and I had zero concerns with eating. Place was clean, simply decorated and "real". I can't believe I had never heard of Mary's till yesterday. Worth the drive to New Castle if you want authentic and great middle eastern food.

Lamb dinner with grape leaves, kibble. Hummus & peppers in oil.

Food is fabulous and very reasonably priced. We a Tiboli/hummus appetizer. We got a Fatoush salad and a lamb dinner with hummus six grape leaves, kibble and hot peppers and oil. Served with bread. It was absolutely delicious. Service was okay.

I mixed the lamb, rice, peppers and garlic sauce and was smiling with each bite.

Wow. Went here on a recommendation from Stephanie. In fact we drove all the way to New Castle for linner. We first had the Taste is Syria for appetizers. Grape leaves awesome, cooked kibeee awesome, hummus freshly made and wish we had more of each. Main course my wife had Sleek a mixture of collard greens and black eye peas. She loved it. I had lamb (cooked medium) over rice will go back to order again. The other entree was grilled chicken with rice and tabuli. The garlic sauce was key and you definitely want to request a little more for your entree. The food was phenomenal and we will go back. On the way out we picked up an order of baklava.

Chicken Combination Dinner (with Falafel instead of Kibbee)

Mary's is truly an oasis in south New Castle. It is well worth the journey to enjoy the home cooked Middle Eastern treats. Not only is the food extraordinary, the service is also some of the best around. Our server was not only knowledgeable, she was also flexible. I have started eating wheat-free and she helped me navigate the menu, pointed out where wheat was hiding, and made necessary substitutions so that I could eat freely. We started with Baba Ghanoush, served with fresh Syrian bread and dipping veggies for me. I can never resist chicken on the rod, so we both ordered the Chicken Combination Dinner. My Kibbee was happily substituted with Falafel. We also ordered dishes to go for our men. The Man (my husband) found the Shunkleesh Salad very yummy. I have no hesitation in giving five stars. It's casual, come as you are and eat spectacular homemade food. I can't wait to go back.

A friend and I went here for lunch today. The atmosphere is casual, and got seated as soon as we walked in. We started with a platter that included grape leaves, kibbee, and tabbouli. We added 2 falafel to try. I had a Lamb sandwich, and my friend had lamb on the rod. Since this was my first try at Middle Eastern cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised. We shared a piece of baklava for desert. The food was delicious, and the service was great. Definitely recommend.

Beautifully decorated and great staff. Fatush salad was amazing! Had to go home with a few loaves of bread that I found right by checkout.

The consistency alone is enough to keep us coming back, but the food itself? It's something special. Let me start with the hummus. I don't even know how to say this without sounding dramatic, but it's hands down the best hummus we've ever had. It's unbelievably smooth, rich, and somehow manages to go with everything. And yes...I'm going to say it...dip your fries in it. Trust me on that one. And order the large size hummus to take home with you. The rice deserves its own moment too. Perfectly cooked, just the right amount of richness. I'm not sure if it's butter or oil or some magic in between, but whatever they're doing, it works. It's the kind of rice you keep eating even when you're full. We usually go for the chicken over rice, which comes with peppers and onions, and it's always flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. This is not bland food. Everything has depth. We've also had the three-meat combo (lamb, chicken, and beef), and every single piece is tender and cooked just right. It all comes together with that incredible red sauce and the garlic sauce...which I always order extra because I refuse to run out halfway through the meal. Add in the pita for the hummus, and it's just one of those meals you look forward to the entire drive home. And speaking of the drive...we will happily go 35-40 minutes out of our way just to pick this up. That should tell you everything. On top of all that, it's a family-owned place, and you can feel it. Customer service is warm and thoughtful. You'll often see the husband and wife there, sometimes their kids, and I believe his mother is in the kitchen and honestly, it shows. There's something about the food that feels cared for, not just made. We've tried a few different things on the menu and everything has been great, but the dishes I mentioned are what keep calling us back. Highly, highly recommend!!

We were confused as to where the actual restaurant was. There is a sign on Route 8, so we parked there, looked around, walked downstairs, only to find it was offices. We then walked upstairs and found that the entrance was actually on the other side of the building but accessible from the front. It's an interesting place when you walk in. We were quickly greeted and seated. It seemed as though the owner and family were working. The menu was interesting, not real large but sufficient. We had, who I believe is the owner, come to our table and ask what we typically like to eat and then she was making suggestions. We thought she was just being helpful. My wife finally looked at her and said, I'm sorry are you also taking flour order now? She replied well that's what I was trying to do. To me that was a little off putting. We all took her suggestions and ordered. The food came out fresh and warm. It was good. We all tried each others meals. We felt that what my wife ordered was the best.
