Tom…read moreKerr was very gracious to me when I was trying out basses a few years ago, even after I returned a fine bass I had on trial. I ended up buying a Pollmann Bass from another store. However, when I needed a set-up, , cleaning, and sound adjustment, I took my Pollmann to Tom. My bass now sounds better than ever, and he had a solid string recommendation. Also, just this week I bought a Kay Bass, circ, 1940 from Tom, for my bluegrass, gigs. It was reasonably priced and he did some work I requested for a minimal charge, adjustments to the bridge curvature, and a replacement tailpiece cable (I wanted a new Teflon version). I kept the original metal piece since it was part of the original bass. Thanks, Tom, for your expertise and gracious manner with me as a customer who needed some guidance.

You save me a lot of travel time, by offering an afternoon repair. 1.What is amazing is the clearer, brighter tones I get, particularly in the throat tones and the Bb (thumb and forefinger) and highest register. 2.Wobble is gone. I have greased the cork and am being carefull as I put it together. 3.Low register C# key/high G# works smoothly, the "catch" is gone. 4.Most important - the low E to F# (left little finger to right little finger) now works perfectly, the delay and muddled tones as I changed notes are gone. New pads and the small spacer pad seem to have soved my problem. My original pads looked terrible and changing them made the difference. The dirt between the keys was absolutely surprising. Jay

My high-end guitars do not resonate as well as this guitar. They do not look as good as this guitar. harmonically this guitar rings extremely well, and it is a very comfortable guitar to play for hours. So don't let the price tag fool you. These are extremely good guitars at a price that will make me return every year to grab one. Jin and his team are wonderful people and it was a pleasure discovering their store and their guitars. I appreciated talking to lee as well, good people. On a technical note , I dropped off a case and provided some Thomastik-Infeld strings, and Jin set the guitar up perfectly for intonation, action, and resonance. He tweaked it for my personal likes. you wont find this kind of detailed care in a big box , guitar store. Even if you don't need one, I know they would make a great gift for anyone who wants to learn how to play guitar.

The windows were really dark but if I peeked in I could see stuff. I walked in and found a couple and a lot of guitars! They welcomed me in and I was intrigued. He showed me a Telecaster style guitar and it had beautiful sustain. Much more than any Fender I have owned. I knew something was up. I said how come it has so much sustain? He turned the guitar around - neck through body!!! WOW! I wish I had more time to play the guitar through an amp, but he told me how he imports the guitars and sets them up perfectly. I believe it, the guitar played like butter and sustained so good. Then the kicker. The guitars are around $500. What??????? Let me put this in perspective. Maybe in 1980 you could get an Ibanez 335 type guitar - but it wouldn't play like this. It would need serious setup. My Suhr plays great but I paid way more than this. My Eric Johnson Strat has flaws and I wish was setup by Jin Soo. I don't need another guitar. I have so many. However, I cannot stop thinking about the guitar I played and how well he set it up. For $500 I'm not expecting miracles but this is close to it. It's a $500 guitar setup like one of the best guitars in the world. Smooth, no buzz, sustain. I want one!

Krys was terrific in getting back to me right away, however he told me he'd still be out of town for a couple more weeks, yet he wasted no time in recommending Simon Makinadjian, saying that he would definitely be able to take care of my needs. And was that ever the truth! I called Simon on a Saturday around 3pm and he said he could fix it right then! Well my problem was I'm in the middle of a project, so had to have an assistant drive my horn from Venice Beach over to San Gabriel, and he wouldn't be able to arrive until around 6:30pm. So Simon then asked about the next morning, Sunday morning(!) and my guy said he could be out there by 11am. Well it turned out he was about 45 minutes late, but Simon was just totally cool with everything, and indeed fixed the pad in no time at all and I had my beloved instrument back just a couple of hours later, and that simply due to the drive time. So in my estimation, one could dare ask, let alone ever expect this kind of service! and I'm talking about; Excellent Craftsmanship, Incredibly Fast, and So Easy to work with in accommodating the customer. And one more rather important thing, the price for this fix struck me as more than reasonable, particularly taking into account the speed and time of the appointment.
