We tried take-out for dinner tonight - chicken katsu, California roll, shrimp tempura roll, yellowtail jalapeno roll, and a spider roll. Overall, it was maybe a 6/10. The bad: The tempura roll was a little drenched in sauce for my liking. I asked for no wasabi for my California roll, and well, there was wasabi hidden under the ginger. The surprise of the evening was the yellowfin jalapeno roll. It was delicious! It had just the right amount of heat for jalapeños. The chicken katsu was just alright. Nothing special. We've eaten at Masa Sushi many times. Unfortunately, tonight is our last visit. The space is open and clean, and the food is okay. The dealbreaker is the staff. At our last visit, the bar man was engaging in a loud unpleasant political conversation with a patron. Tonight, waitstaff were engaged in a long chat with a customer right next to us. Both experiences left me feeling there are no boundaries for waitstaff chatting with diners. If you want a private dinner where waitstaff are professional, this may not be a good choice. read more

Came on a weekday for their lunch special. It was nice to see a decent amount of people eating at the restaurant at such an off time. The staff were friendly and attentive. We each ordered 3 rolls of sushi which also comes with miso soup and also ordered a side of hibachi noodles to start, the noodles and soup were served hot which was very pleasant and not something done often elsewhere - especially the miso soup. Our sushi rolls had spicy tuna, salmon and white tuna. The fish was fresh and the sushi delicious. Table service was great, our waters were topped off as needed. Kudos on the rehab of the old Bank of America. Dined in once and felt overly rushed, food way too salty. Uni roll was great. Trying to turn tables way too fast. Went for pick up last week and they left out two items in our order, I called the restaurant and they said they would only give store credit on the missing items and they need my credit card number again. SO I drove back from Saybrook to Clinton and they older lady starts laying into me on 'what I should be doing'. The creators of Masa Sushi have definitely taken time to pay attention to detail. Higher end napkins and chop sticks than many other local places. The renovated bank is very nicely done and the decor is clean and modern. The restaurant was packed and they are still working out some kinks but all and all I think they did a decent job with seating and service for just starting out. My son found this nice restaurant for lunch near the Clinton Premium Outlet mall. Place is very spacious and clean. Service is top notched with different waitresses coming and asking us how the food was. We thoroughly enjoy our order of 3 rolls and Bento boxes. Starving while traveling thru the area found this place via yelp nice enough to accommodate a take out order ten minutes before closing. Could honestly tell the food was going to be awesome just based on the inside but when I got to the parking lot and opened the bag I was greeted to New York City caliber fish. The salmon was nice and oily. The tuna has incredible color and like the yellowtail it melted in your mouth. Definitely going to make it a point to visit this gem anytime I'm in the area. Another great sushi spot in Clinton that we have had the pleasure of dining at quite a few times already. The space is not huge, but it is open and there are several tables, some of which can be amassed together to accommodate some large parties. There is also a large sushi bar and drink bar right in the middle. There are two TVs mounted there for watching the games. A bonus that I have not seen in a sushi bar before and greatly appreciate. Our favorite thing to get is the sashimi for two. It always comes out with an amazing and plentiful selection of fresh and delicious fish. There are the standard types such as tuna, white tuna, yellowtail, and salmon always on the platter, but they also rotate in pieces of anything special that they have available. This last time we got to sample some madai. They also always have a few pieces of the most tender squid, which I had never actually had raw before. Their menu has plenty of other options as well, such as teriyaki chicken and hibachi style dishes, just without the show. They have your standard staple rolls such as California and spicy salmon, in addition to a handful of special rolls too. Their listing of creative rolls is not as long as some other places I have been, but the few they have are done quite well and the quality of the fish really shines through. There is a full bar with cocktails, wine, beer, and sake, of course! The service here is exceptional. Everyone works really hard and they are so nice. We always greatly appreciate that they remember us and stop to chat. It is never expected but it does make you feel good. Highly recommend a stop here for some great sushi! read more

Heard of the new sushi place in town, and decided to give it a try. Was left wanting more. When I arrived, the service I got was decent but not great. The hostess was short with my party and had trouble finding seating for us. Once we sat down, it took about ten minutes for a waitress to come serve us, even though there were many of them at the front of the restaurant talking. Once they came, they were again short with me and my party. The food itself was average. The sushi was very fishy, and either tasted that way or had no taste at all. The Spicy California roll was bland and had very little spice. Overall the price I paid for the food I got was not worth it. The appetizer of Fried Calamari tasted very good, but $12 for a few fried rings made me regret purchasing it. The soy sauce provided to you was extremely salty and ruined the flavor of a sushi dipped into it. Paid more than I like for subpar food. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, but cramped. Had traditional decor and vibes, but seemed to have been quickly thrown together with many tables cramped next to each other in an attempt to get more seating. I came here with high expectations and was left disappointed. I will return if this establishment increases the quality of their food/service. read more

We are thrilled that there's finally a great sushi restaurant in our area. Masa's customers are lovingly tended by the owner, Michael, and the team produces fantastic food -- not just sushi but also teriyaki, hibachi and other treats. This is not a hibachi restaurant, though -- no theatrics around a grill. Just great, reliably yummy Japanese food. Their sudden and immediate success has made for the occasional glitch in service, but be patient; they've only been open for four months and already you need reservations, even for earlier meals.
