It's one of those places if you didn't hear about it, you wouldn't have know it was there. The sushi always fresh and the staff is always friendly. You can tell they care about the quality of their sushi. Inside it has lots of seating and you can sit at the bar. There is always sushi specials for you can try. One of my favorite roll is the Fancy Roll. Simple and crunchy. There is also option of hibachi, noodles and Chinese dishes for the friends and family that doesn't like raw fish. Soga sushi is located in a small shopping strip on Washington Avenue in North Haven. The restaurant was clean and well organized. The staff was somewhat friendly. There is plenty of accessible parking right in front of the restaurant. The display of seafood looked fresh and inviting, We decided to stop for a quick lunch while doing errands in the area. Never been here before, but we were in the neighborhood. Great place from our lunch experience. Wife had a volcano roll and I had three different rolls and simple salad for $14.75. All great and really fresh and rolled by two guys at the sushi bar while we watched. Bill was about $42 and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. I had their Lunch menu to go. Called when I was 15 minutes away and the food was ready when I arrived. I had the Pad Thai noodle dish. It was absolutely delicious . It came with Miso soup. I not a fan of Miso soup, but this was very tasty and rich . I also had a side of Edamame, which was okay . I added salt to it to bring out the flavor. I then had Sashimi from the lunch menu ; it was fabulous. All the fish was fresh and delicious. All the food was reasonably priced and the staff was friendly and efficient. I wanted to start out my first review of the new year with a tacky saying such as..... Soga Sushi! Soga Good! ....but alas, it was just decent. I haven't had good quality sushi in like 2 years and I was really craving it for some time now. Meaning, I have had NO sushi (I was pregnant and had no sushi during it and shortly after he popped out the pandemic happened and many places closed down for COVID.) I opted for Soga Sushi as it was one of the handful of sushi places available on Uber Eats. I had heard locally good things, so I thought this was a safe bet. We got a Thunder Roll which had lobster salad, crunch, shrimp tempera and avocado. That one was pretty good, I'll say. The sweet potato roll was good, a basic sweet potato roll. Also, we got 2 spicy tuna rolls. Typically, this is my go to standard, but these rolls were just alright. Oddly, the tuna seemed really brightly colored...but not in a fresh fish sort of way. It almost seemed artificial. I also wish they were a bit spicier/creamier. So much for conquering my craving, I guess I'm still on the quest. read more

I got the Chicken Katsu and 3 Sushi Rolls Lunch, both with miso soup. The portions were generous for the price and the flavors were spot on. The tempura batter on the chicken katsu was light and crispy, while the chicken itself was still moist and juicy. The shumais that accompanied the lunch were just OK, but I still very much appreciated them in the bento box! The sushi rolls were also fresh and balanced, with just the right amount of rice-to-fish ratio. The spicy tuna roll was different from others that I'm used to, but I still liked it! I got to-go. I am genuinely curious if I would have received the same food if I sat down and ate there based on all the positive reviews. I eat sushi A LOT. Please know I know exactly what I'm ordering and what each of these below should taste and look like. I ordered: Yellowtail Sashimi Salmon Sushi White Tuna Sushi Toro roll A specialty roll with Salmon & Yellowtail House Salad White Tuna - I'm actually worried I may get sick from this based on the after taste in my mouth. I can't get the after taste out of my mouth. I wish I smelled it first or took a half bite but it was my first bite from the meal. Yellowtail - I think the picture says it all. This is my all time favorite sushi/sashimi to order, and I ordered six pieces and a roll that had it in it. It was white/grey and see through and did not taste good at all. I ate half a piece as a tester after the white tuna experience. Salmon - Meh, didn't taste bad, didn't taste great, a little mushy. "Toro" Roll - I think the toro roll was a scam. Toro is usually very light red if mediocre, pink if GOOD. This was just mashed up red tuna. I tried one piece of the roll and couldn't eat the rest. Bad taste and pretty sure wasn't even Toro based on color and Toro wasn't even anywhere else on the menu? Why have it just to use in a plain roll, I should have known based on that. Salad - hey this was a great salad and I loved the dressing. $59 literally in the trash can (minus the salad, so about $55 in the trash). Not that anyone cares, but man oh man, when you're absolutely swamped at work, haven't eaten all day, and are excited to just sit down in a moment of calm for a good meal during a short short work break, this really ruins a day lol :( read more
