What a find this restaurant was. If you love the artistry in which Japanese food is prepared and presented then Masa Sushi is the place for you. Both outside and inside, the facility is clean and crisp. The wait staff is helpful with the menu items, attentive, engaging, and very friendly. But it's the food that puts Masa Sushi at the top of our list. From Hibachi to sushi, sashimi, or elegant rolls the food is prepared with the freshest most flavorful ingredients you can imagine in an artful presentation. Masa Sushi is our new go-to restaurant. I'm in love with this place! Everything is so fresh - the noodles, the sushi, the hand rolls, the fried seafood apps, the tempura, the soup - I can go on and on! Their establishment is clean and their bar is well stocked. Great cocktails! Everyone is so friendly, especially my favorite waitress, Lily. This place gets very crowded! I typically go around Happy Hour time - but I have also picked up takeout or had it delivered. Of course in person is always the best, but takeout never disappoints either. I'm so happy this restaurant now calls Clinton home. It's a wonderful spot to have happy hour, dinner, or to meet friends for lunch before or after shopping at the outlets! Very clean and friendly staff. I was early for my take out order so was kindly welcomed a seat and some water which I took at the bar. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. Got a small warm sake for 6$ as I waited for my order to be complete which took little time. Quality of the food was great and exactly what I could have hoped for. I have now been to Masa Sushi 2 times this week and both times I had some of the BEST sushi ever! Both times I had a friend with me and they both want to come back. This is a great new place! The workers here are extremely friendly and they make sure you have everything you need. The food was also great! They have a large variety on the menu and I tried some of their sushi as well as cooked dishes. They also provide a lot of options for a dessert menu, I tried the friend ice cream which was perfectly executed. They had great decor inside and it was a great use of the old bank. First time trying this restaurant it was excellent.. We had the crab tempura and Tom Yum soup as appetizers both were very good. Also had spicy tuna roll and pink lady roll they were excellent. And last but not least we had the sashimi which looked too beautiful too eat but was delicious.. The service was great very attentive to us and we even had a nice conversation with the owner. We had the good fortune of having lunch at Masa Sushi's yesterday and I can't recommend it enough. We met our friends, who had been there before, several times along with another couple. We got the edamame as an appetizer and my friend got the little pork dumplings all of which were delicious! My husband and I ordered Filet Mignon with Shrimp Hibachi combination and it was FANTASTIC! The sauce was delicious and the meat was melt in your mouth tender. Our server was attentive the restaurant clean and peaceful and the owner was lovely, coming several times to our table to chat and to bless us with a bottle of wine and complimentary ice cream for our friends while we ordered the fried banana dessert which was a wonderful finish to a fabulous meal. I am a New York City transplant living in Old Saybrook. A friend of mine recommended Masa to me knowing how much I missed the high quality sushi I had become accustomed to in NYC. This restaurant is by far the best sushi that I have had since moving to CT 17 years ago. I cannot speak to the service or the ambience because I placed my order online (which was seamless). However the quality of the fish reminded me of the many years I spent going to Sushi of Gari in NY. This place is the real deal! read more

The sushi was fresh and really tasty. The spring rolls were, too. My only negative comment would be that it is very pricey for the amount of food you get. The spring rolls only come in twos, and the sushi roll I ordered was tiny. But food was great! read more

I don't really understand the hype around this place, it's very average. Its identical to hanami but smaller portions. My $8 shrimp avocado roll was 6 pieces that were the size of a peanut M&M, really pathetic. read more

My friends and I decided to stop by for sushi after a day at Hammonasset. The staff who greeted us was pleasant. It was a very clean, high end restaurant. The food was displayed in a very beautiful way. I did notice that one waitress served a customer the wrong platter of food and ran back to him right as he was about to bite into it. I then saw her throw away the area he touched and bring over the food to the other customer on the other side of the restaurant. I wouldn't want to eat something that was already touched by another customer, but this waitress didn't seem to care about that. Overall, a nice place. Just think their staff can work on friendliness and hygiene. read more

First time here. Had spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy scallop and spider rolls. Also the Pork Gyoza. All were fantastic!

The food was very good, but we had an issue with one of the servers. We had a table for four and each of us ordered an hibachi dish. Two of them came out in a normal amount of time, but the other two did not. One appeared about five minutes later and then the other about five minutes after that. That was annoying, but somewhat understandable since it is a new business. What was not understandable however was the attitude from the server when delivering the final dish. Totally arrogant and disrespectful considering the long delay. The server even had the nerve to argue with my dining companion because she was not thrilled with the delay. We did not escalate the situation, but will certainly not return. That is too bad, because we were excited to try this restaurant in Clinton. read more

We tried calling to make reservations and no one answered the phone, so myself and a friend decide to just drive by to see if they had an opening, since we were excited to try the new restaurant in town. They had quite a few open tables so we got seated right away. The building was an old bank that was redone and looked lovely, inside and out. The sushi and presentation was excellect. Fresh, interesting plates of both sushi and sashimi. Unfortunately, that is where it stopped. The soft shell crab tempura was more like a breaded soft shell that was deep fried for too long. Service was non-exsistent. A pouty waitress dropped off the food and never returned to see if we liked our meals or needed anything. The woman who cleared our appetizer dishes threw garbage in the dish full of liquid, while it was still on the table, with our entrees right next to it, instead of picking up the plate and then tossing the garbage on the plate after it was off the table. It was extremely unpleasant. When we left the woman at the front desk (I believe to be the owners wife), never once looked up to say goodbye. We said goodbye and thank you and she did response with a half hearted goodbye and still never looked up even to glance. She did the same when asked where the bathroom was, earlier in the evening. With so much competition of sushi places in the area, I was very surprised to see the complete lack of hospitality for a new restaurant. We spent $130.00 for two people on food alone. It would have been worth it if the staff and owners would have been attentive and hospitable, but it really soured the visit. read more
