This review is for Masada the nightclub not the restaurant itself. For some reason we always get text message about the nightclub Masada. After enjoying happy hour in Logan Square we finally wanted to see if all roads lead to Masada. lol (that's always in the text message). Establishment is right off California. Limited street parking. We found parking about two blocks away. This location is easy to gain from Blue Line. Anyhoo, we didn't prepay to attend this event which was a St. Patty themed. We arrived early because we came from Happy Hour. Ladies were free but they charged my husband $20 which I thought was outrageous. We were the first inside to pay for $19 drinks with no where to sit inside. The music was good and my husband first drink was good. However, the bottom floor has a small dance floor. No seating unless you buy a bottle. Are you kidding me!!! The cheap reserved signs and buckets told me everything I needed to know about spending ridiculous amount of money on a bottle here. Facts: Not gonna drop several hundred dollars to have sweaty ass bodies blocking the whole view of the club. Overall, would not return for the club scene but the restaurant itself looked pretty. We ventured outside and the second floor and deck is nice. Tip: if going to check out the club, see if you can pre-register for Eventbrite discount rates. read more

As a house music aficionado and DJ of 25 years going to a house night in Chi town was one of my top priorities. Managed to kill two birds with one stone because DJ Ron Carroll throws a Wed night house night and had one of my favorite DJ/producers-Roland Clark playing. Ambiance 10/10 for a house nite on a Wed night Crowd: 10/10-Same-stellar group of house heads/DJs/dancers etc. It was outstanding. Sound System: 15/10-for a smaller space it was SIIICK and you could hear a pin drop on this system-super clean high/mids without being too harsh and the bass was warm and went right thru you. A thundering system overall. How much to get this rig in my house please!? Two giant subs and several overhead speakers meant when you were on the floor your a** was IN the music and grooving which is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. 5* for Ron Carroll's Wednesday night at Masada-if I find myself in Chicago again on a Wednesday I damn sure will be back. read more

Seems like a cool place, I was checking it out as I am new to the area and love house music. But I don't think I'll be returning to this venue because the female Asian bartender charged me $30 for 1 vodka soda and a shot. Tip was not included in the price but I'm suspecting that she added her own tip to that price. I should've just sent the drink back....I've been to other bars with house music such as penny whistle and Celeste and never paid that much for a rail drink and shot. Caught the Magikiss 3-year anniversary party this past Sunday on the patio and it was easily the highlight of the weekend. The vibe and the weather were the perfect combination for an outdoor session. This venue is hands-down one of the best spots in Logan Square; every time I come through, the experience is just getting better and better. It's rare to find a place that captures that authentic underground energy in an outdoor setting while staying so well-run. I'll definitely be back for the next one. read more

Stop keeping the entire neighborhood awake til 2 am on weekdays when we have to be up early for work and school. Some of us in the community have newborns. The volume of the music played here shows how entitled the people who run this place and DJ here are. Neighbors have been complaining about this for years and what do y'all do? Keep playing the same loud mouth breather troglodyte music on weekdays until enough people call to complain about the disturbance and you shut down for the night. The music (insufferable repetitive edm) is so bad its a crime against humanity. I thought I went on a bad night because it was slow, maybe the normal chef wasn't there? The bartenders here are literally scamming people here and something should to be done about it. They are adding gratuity to individual drinks (not tables of a certain capacity) without telling customers and accepting whatever tip they get on top of that. They are double dipping and it's probably the most shady thing I've ever experienced at a bar. This is how I found out. I go to the bar and order two Modelos. The bartender tells me $12. $6 for an import isn't that crazy, so no problem there. I usually tip a dollar per beer but I had an even $15 to pay with so I just gave them the extra dollar to make it a 3 dollar tip. The next time I go the bar I ask if they have any pbr. Im not picky with my booze so I usually just try to get the cheapest one. The bar tender tells me all beers are $5. I ask them why they charged me $6 each for the last round. They tell me "oh, that's because tip is included" What? Excuse me? You didn't it would be a good idea to tell me when I order my last round? Do you really think I meant to tip you 5 fucking dollars for opening two beers? No, they didn't. They are being deliberately deceitful and it honestly doesn't even sound legal. I'll never go back here again. Where the hell do these people come from? So bold and shameless. Scumbags like this give the entire industry a bad name and lend to the belief that tipping culture is out of control. read more

Service was super slow. We were both drinking water and even after multiple visits by the host we never got more water. They offered to get me new falafel and said the issue was that they had just changed the oil. That was bullshit. I waited over 15 minutes for the new ones and we ran out of water. This review is for the downstairs nightclub area. Went in with a group of 4 on a Friday night and we had already made reservations. The lady taking our reservation recommended to arrive by 9-9:30 if we had to see the belly dancer. Upon arrival we were seated very quickly. Our server was extremely sweet and even requested the belly dancer to spend more time on my table when he saw me jump with excitement. :P Overall, she was a delight to watch in the end. We tried two flavors of hookah- mint and blue mist. Both were done very nicely. Good flavor, they switched the coal from time to time and I heard my friend say this is one of the good hookah bars in the city. Drinks were pretty good and I really liked my red Sangria with fresh fruit. As a dessert I tried their baklava- tasty but was a bit too sweet for me. Heard this place becomes very popping during later hours for dance but arrive early if you come here for socializing and belly dancers. Overall, would def return. read more

I found Masada on Instagram and from the pictures it looked beautiful! When I went the restaurant it was beautiful but since it's the wintertime we couldn't go to the rooftop or patio. In Chicago it's hard to find places that have hookah and drinks, most hookah spots are byob so that's why this restaurant stood out. I wanted to eat food, drink, and have hookah but they told us that we had to order hookah downstairs. So we ordered the food, I had a falafel wrap with fries and my friend has a chicken wrap. The food was cool. Something to eat if you're hungry. The highlight was going downstairs to get the hookah. So when we went downstairs it looks like a nightclub! Apparently Sunday nights from 10pm-2am it's Caribbean night. We were there early so it wasn't time to party yet. The hookah was about $30, refill is $15 and my drink was $12. We ordered the orange mint. It was sooooo good!! I highly recommend getting that flavor! I would definitely go back to Masada to get hookah and a drink. read more

Dishonest place that steals people. Don't waste your time going there, I went to the Brazilian night on Friday and they charge things and make up the rules of their heads.   1- They invented that there was a $20 minimum consummation rule when using a card, when I questioned or even knew how to explain it because the last time I went there it didn't exist. I was charged $10 more than they should for the dishonesty mistake of the waitress and when I questioned her she ignored me and walked away, in the end I had to pay $32 for two horrible drinks that looked like dirty water while I should have paid $22 (each drink was $11 ). A friend made the same order with the same payment method and they only charged her $11. So this rule applies to only a few people? THIEVES. 2- They forced two friends to take off their coats and pay $5, when they went to smoke they didn't want to give the coats for them to go outside. When a friend arrived she can come in with a coat without any problem. 3- They placed a ''special guest'' next to where I was on the dance floor and pressed us with puffs and a barrier so that we did not pass the box when we were there first. I went to talk to the owner on facebook and I explained all this politely and he blocked me when he saw that I was not believing his lies. So here's the tip, NEVER go there because you will be robbed, rules will be created without any foundation and for just a few people, and you will not have an answer. read more

I take back every good thing I ever said about Masada. All the comment prior to my review are true. I went to Masada twice in the last two weeks in hopes that they would improve their ratings in my book but nope, no improvement. This place service and quality is garbage and I will not waste my money again here after the embarrassment I received. The owner needs to fire all the servers, hosts and waiters and get new accountable staff without attitude and who actually know what they're doing. The way this business runs now will only lead to its demise. The first time I came here, May 27, 2018- I came with a party of 8 people. I called two weeks in advance to make a reservation and no one mentioned to me that there will be a private upstairs party when I made the reservation. You know what they did mention? They wanted my credit card on file to reserve my spot. Why? Mind you, I made these reservations because my party and I were fasting and wanted to order appetizers as soon as we sat down. We asked to have outdoor seating since the weather was beautiful. In fact, someone from Masada called me two hours before to confirm our attendance and they kept urging us to sit inside but I insisted on sitting outside not knowing what was to come. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our table only to find out that the music from the party upstairs was so obnoxious and loud- you couldn't hear yourself think nevertheless someone else speak. We asked to move indoors. The moved our table inside but it was so incredibly slow. We asked for dates and water- they charged us for the dates btw. Bring your own because they're not even the medjool dates. The waitress said and I kid you not, "we didn't expect to have so many people today for his event that the kitchen ran out of food so we can only provide these items on the menu." OMGOSH. Do you know how mortified I was? If you called me to confirm my attendance, why didn't you tell me there wasn't enough food to accommodate us?!?!? None of the kebab platters were available. I wanted to drop down on the ground and cry because could you imagine your entire party just fasted all day (+17 hours) and here you are telling us some of the best items on the menu are out? I wanted to just scream from disgust and embarrassment. My guests ordered something else but the server told us that it would be about an hour wait for food. It was horrible. We had broken our fast and you can't just find another place to go dine at with a party so large. We remained and ate our way through 5 appetizers because we were so hungry. When a business is short food and you know your customers are hungry, then it's up to you to accommodate our customers in some way. No accommodations/ no discounts on the bill for the inconvenience and no appetizers on the house. In fact, when we ran out of pita bread for our appetizers, they chatted us for it as well and told us, "we can't serve you anymore pita bread because we have limited supply". That sounds like a personal problem to me. There was so much going on that although our waitress tried to be fast, she was so distracted by what was going on. We had to ask for water multiple times. Our food arrived after an hour. I guess we should be grateful it arrive at all. I previously came to Masada last year and I was so happy that even though I had such a bad experience in may that I would give Masada a chance to redeem themselves so I decided to come back again the following week. I went back on Saturday, June 2. I made reservations for another fasting party of 6 and I specifically called to ask if there is enough food before arriving. We arrived and sat outside. We asked to order appetizers right away. We ordered baba Ghanoush, hummus and 2 sets of chicken wings. We also asked for dates. We arrived at 8:06, our fast broke at 8:20 and we didn't have dates until 8:30. The only reason we got them is because I hounded the waiter down to ask him to get them for us. Our waiter didn't come to our table to take our actual menu until I went to the front desk and asked someone to send for him. Our appetizers arrived and then he took our main entree orders. He didn't ask any of us what we would like to drink so we all just kept drinking water. Once again, even though I called and confirmed, he told us that sumac chicken, bamiya and lamb shank were sold out for the day. Like seriously? Once again, super embarrassed. To make matters worse, no one, I mean no one came to our table to ask if we needed anything else or just to check up on us. On my way out, the hostesses or idk what they are were all together eating. OMGOSH SO NOW I KNOW WHY MASADA IS ALWAYS OUTTA FOOD!!! Gotta feed the staff before the customers!! Why are you sitting eating when you have waiters that physically cannot get to everyone? After a two year wait Masada has finally opened it's doors to the public. We went last night early since we weren't sure if it is already getting packed or not. The space is massive they have tons of inside eating, outside seating, and even seating on the roof when they open that part. It looks amazing and I am sure they will do well. I chalk up my issues to they just opened on Tuesday but the service was a tad slow. It took quite awhile for someone to come take our order after we first sat down even though there seemed to be plenty of waitstaff mulling around. The hummus was excellent except that they didn't bring any pita along side it so we had to track someone down for more pita at least 2 times. The drinks were ok. The wife had their version of a dark and stormy but it had way to much ginger in it. I had a tequila drink but it was rather bland. I had a chicken schwarma wrap which was good and the wife had a chicken kabob that was also tasty. Unfortunately, I decided to surprise one of my best friends with what I thought was going to be a great time for his bday. With that being said - We got charged a cover fee $5 women and $15 men. After she sitting us without menus we spend about 10 mins seated just looking around hoping to get greet it soon. Finally, when who we though was our "server" approached our table and gave us dirty menus. Oh .. and also asked for a CREDIT CARD and ID to open up our tap. I said to him that he could verify the credit card was mine by checking my ID at the table and just take my credit card like most places I have been. But he refused and told me he needed both. Subsequently , we ordered our drinks. I asked for a a lemon drop martini. He replied " we can't make it right now , the bartender is not here yet, everyone is running late" Front that point on I was very esquestical about this place. So, I ended up ordering just jack and cake. To make story short. After he derived out food, he never came back to check on how we were doing or anything. Anyhow, a lady came long after and asked if we needed anything. We ordered a couple drinks with her and then after we were finished those drinks .. we just wanted our bill. Since, I never saw the first guy that took out ordered I asked the second lady if we could have our bill. She was very busy running bottles of alcohol into the dance floor. So, she barely paid attention to me when I asked for the check. I literally waited about an hour for the check. Luckily my other 2 friends decided to go dance while I was just trying to get someone's attention to get my credit card, ID , and bill already. I finally had enough and stopped one of the guys that appeared to be working there too. I told him what was happening and he told me to asked the " lady" for the bill. I said to him that I had asked her already and was waiting for ever. He then grab her attention and she told him that she didn't had my check. Then he told me to followed him to the bar area which I couldn't see front my table , and he asked me if the guy making the drinks was the guy that took my ordered initially. I was stunk by now because the guy that told me to my face that the bartender wasn't there was HIM( he was the bartender ) He was just busy taking care of tables at the beginning of the night since the lady server was running late. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL is that!!! I understood everything after that and was very very upset. Anyways, I let him know that he was the one that took my order, my credit card and my ID. Then he told me I had to wait there because he could leave the bar . When he finally gave me my bill, credit card, and ID I was furious to see the 24% auto gratuity he had added after all. I try letting him know that wasn't right but he didn't care. He just told me gratuity is added it to tables after certain time. I was so furious that I couldn't even argue with this guy. Or anyone in that place. This place has no management at all in any aspect. This was truly a horrible experience. There's way better options out there ! Masada is accessible by Blue Line being right around the corner of California stop, great middle eastern/Mediterranean food and beautiful venue to host parties and events. I went in with reservations, but came out curious why the poor Yelp rating. When I went for dinner, the basement was rented out to host a birthday party for the Chief of Staff of the Alderman! I especially love the outdoor patio with colored glass lights. Among all the food tasted, I most enjoyed the wings, kale salad and lamb chops. Such a great vibe!!! Love this cozy middle eastern restaurant and hookah bar in Logan Square. The ambiance is bright, bold and sassy. The decorations are very authentic. Reminds me of the places back home in the Middle East! Came here for a post-dinner hookah session with my sister and brother-in-law. He is Lebanese and knows all about the best hookahs, so I very much trust his recommendations. We did not try the food, but the menu looked delicious! I will definitely come back to try the food. When we first walked in on a Sunday afternoon, the whole restaurant was empty. That was a bad sign.. But I guess no wait. Overall, the restaurant is pretty nothing out of this world tho. The outside patio is really nice. We ordered hummus, baba ghanoush, and Shish kebab. We were also brought out pita bread. The pita bread was bland, void of any salt and not toasted or warmed. The hummus was pretty good, not the best but better than store bought for sure. The baba ghanoush was very different from the ones I've had before. It had a strange fishy taste and it was spicy. We did not finish it. We decided to share the lamb Shish kebab. The lamb was dry, chewy, and overcooked. Surprisingly, the rice it came with was one of the best rice I've had in awhile and I don't even like rice. Also, ordered mint tea.. Expecting actual tea. It was just hot water with mint leaves floating around. It's fine if it is how it's made but a warning would have helped. That was just hot mint water, not tea. Overall, definitely not coming back. The service was somehow spotty considering the restaurant was empty. Can't imagine how it would be when it's actually busy. It isn't open yet for dining, but they don't mind if you grab drinks at the bar and head up for a nice relaxing place to enjoy your drinks. The owner clearly put some serious work into authentic middle eastern decor and it is simply stunning. Having been to the Middle East a few times it reminds me of a few of the countries I've visited. They are very new so they are still working out some of the kinks in their operation. The parts that did not work for me were: They did not give pint glasses with our beer, even after we asked for one every time we ordered (3 times). It's better to have the server bring it and take it back than to make two trips. We did not get small plates with our appetizer orders. Plates are pretty much a standard at every restaurant ever. The falafel was quite overcooked. It was not burnt but it was very hard. Something that a cook should be able to tell just by picking up the falafel as they put it on the plate. The parts that I did like: The decor and atmosphere of the entire restaurant is amazing. Everything compliments each other and gives the restaurant the same feel as the food does. The owner was incredibly nice and was there to make sure everything was going well with the opening of the restaurant. They give pita with za'atar and olive oil to all the tables. Their za'atar was delicious and a little addicting. The sauce they gave with the falafel was delicious and quite authentic, definitely reminded me of my trips to the middle east.
