The reason I can't give it five stars (and was actually going to cancel going there) is because the communication leading up to our visit was surprisingly poor. For reservations of more than 12 guests, the instructions direct you to call the restaurant. After numerous attempts, I was finally able to reach someone, only to be told there was no availability. However, a family member was later able to secure a reservation, so availability clearly wasn't the issue. It seemed that accommodating a larger group may have been the concern, but that was never communicated clearly. I was also told that Instagram was the best way to reach them, which feels like an unusual and inefficient process for handling reservations. I also sent a message through OpenTable and didn't receive a response for three days, which wasn't particularly helpful when trying to coordinate a group outing. One additional tip: be sure to specify whether you prefer patio or indoor seating when making your reservation, as that also became an issue for our group. Overall, we had a great time. Not the good, chaotic energy of a packed, sweaty dive where everyone is locked into the same groove, but that performative, bright, hyper-designed loudness that feels like it's trying too hard to prove it's alive. Neon, flowers, butterfly wings--it's a lot of visual static before you even get a drink in your hand. When you cut through all that aesthetic hustle, you realize the math just doesn't add up. The food is flat out not that great. You're expecting bold flavors to match the room, but it lands with a thud. The drinks are completely average, hiding behind heavy presentation instead of actual balance, and when the bill hits the table, the illusion completely shatters. For the price they're asking, it's a total mismatch. Nothing here connects. Then there's the service, which is just completely plain. There is zero personality behind it. In a space that's screaming at you to feel something, the staff interaction feels totally hollow, like you're being served by corporate robots going through the motions of a script. There's no soul, no human connection to anchor the experience. The room itself just doesn't give you space to breathe. It's trying to be a sanctuary of Latin energy, but instead, it feels like it's built for a camera lens rather than a human being who just wants to sit down, get a clean pour of mezcal, and have a real conversation. I don't need a restaurant to put on a theater production for me, especially when the kitchen and the staff can't back up the ticket price. Give me something grounded. Give me a place where the pretense is left at the door and the space lets the spirit talk, not the decor. Random find after exploring the Logan Square farmers market. We got seated pretty immediately. The inside is very vibrant, fun and inviting. But the music was so loud that not only could I not hear my friend next to me, I could barely hear my own thoughts. So we got seated outside which was much better. The waiter was very thorough explaining their drink specials and menu. Not a large menu, but everything on the menu tasted amazing. We got 3 margaritas, but the best one was the jalapeño skinny margarita. Perfect spice and not too sugary. The guava and passion fruit were a bit too syrup tasting. We got several entrees but the best had to be the camarones enchipotlados and the enchiladas suizas. The portion was large and filling, the sauce to meat ratio was perfect. No leftovers! Came here for my daughter's 20th birthday dinner with her friends. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Come here if you want a show during dinner because they have karaoke singers coming around with very lively music. I felt like I was on vacation in like Cancun. The food was delicious. I really wanted to love our experience but I had very mixed feelings. We came on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and we had a large party. We weren't allowed to be seated until the entire party was there. Well we had once person running late and our party was on the patio. We were told where our table was but was told we could not sit down until the entire party was there. We were doing the brunch buffet and most of the people got the bottomless drink package. I don't drink so I just ask if we could get a soda, they were out of every single soda option possible and our waiter had to keep coming back to tell us what they did have available and then came back again and said actually we're out. But I should also mention that they focused on those who were drinking and we didn't even get asked for a drink until way after we were done eating. When we got up to the buffet, most of the items were out. I expected more from the buffet since it was $40 per person. But it was soup, chilaquiles, eggs, potatoes, sausage, rice and beans. They did have orange juice and watermelon juice there there which is actually what I ended drinking most of the time in the tiny cups because that's what was available. All in all, I don't know if I'd come back. The food was just okay, and the service wasn't great. The only thing that could've made this better is if the staff had gone a bit more above and beyond, because it's such a fun atmosphere, it would be cool if they treated it like the party it is!! We had to try this place as we were fans of the tacos from the former business at this location Old Plank. Both of us being vegetarians there weren't many options. The vegetarian tacos with sautéed Cremini mushrooms were good, as were the chips and salsa. Dropping a star for a strange situation with the new manager. It doesn't say this on the menu, but supposedly the waiter Miguel said if you order three tacos, you can get beans and rice added for no charge. So of course instead of ordering two tacos, we ordered three apiece. Our waiter, who was very helpful., wasn't sure if the beans and rice were vegetarian so he went to check with the kitchen and returned to kindly tell us that rice was made with chicken stock. But he offered to replace that with guacamole, and we agreed. But then he returned a third time and apologized that the manager said they can't replace beans and rice with guacamole. Miguel said they could replace it with a salad. But we had already ordered a salad so that didn't make sense. So we were out of luck apparently. Just an awkward situation, and we thought the manager should have honored the offer, if only just this one time. Or some other suitable option? I'll start my review by saying all of the positives. The food was very good! The pescado taco was one of the best fish tacos I've had in the city; it was light, flavorful and balanced. The guacamole was very tasty. My margarita was strong, and very yummy. Tbh, it was better than Federales down the street lol. The only downside was how LOUD this place is. I felt like I was at a rave while attempting to tell the server what I wanted. Originally, I thought that the front bar area was the super loud area, and the back dining areas would be a bit more quiet. I was proven so wrong. I usually don't write negative reviews, but the service we received tonight was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Two of my girlfriends and I came in around 6:00-6:30 p.m. for the $35 unlimited Taco Tuesday deal with margaritas. When we were seated, we were excited to try it but things quickly went downhill. We were initially brought just one taco each, and then waited about 20 minutes for the next round. When the second round finally came, we each received two tacos, which was fine. However, after that, we waited another 30-40 minutes for more tacos. For an "unlimited" special, the long gaps between servings completely defeated the purpose. Throughout the entire time, our original waitress never once came to check on us. Different staff members were dropping off tacos, and the busboy was the one refilling our waters. We had no communication, no updates, and no check-ins. When we were finally done eating, we waited another 30-40 minutes just trying to get our bill. Our waitress never came. We were left sitting there with no assistance. Eventually, we got frustrated and walked up to the hostess to ask if we could just pay at the front since our server hadn't returned. Instead of helping, she told us to go back to our table and wait while she called our waitress. The response felt dismissive and unprofessional she could have easily said she would bring the check to us. In the end, another waitress (who wasn't even our server) brought the bill. We had to walk it back up ourselves to make sure it was received and then we left. Overall, we received four rounds of tacos, and the first round was just one taco each after a long wait. I truly do not recommend coming here if you're expecting timely service especially for their Taco Tuesday special. Happy Hour menu sign looked legit and it was! We enjoyed our margaritas, they didn't taste cheap like not just mixer and booze, they had that good FRESH lime flavor that's almost like coconutty. They were big too! We were short on time, but still decided to order 1 app, the flautas/taquitos. For $7 they brought out 3 taquitos with a lil scoop of guac/salad. Omg from the atmosphere to the food to the hospitality.....it was an experience!!!! We walked in and felt like we were in another world with the lights, flowers and overall decorations. The have an outside patio in the front and back but it was too darn hot last night for that! They had numerous picture spots and the bar was jumping! The food was good and quick. I had the 3 tacos and rice AND THE MARGARITA!!! If you order 3 tacos you get rice and beans at no additional charge. The sink was HUGE and DELICIOUS, not watered down like some places. The pricing was typical. Hospitality was on point!!! The chips were good, but the salsa was pretty mid and lacked any heat. The ceviche was good, not the biggest portion, but a little sweeter on the front with a little spice on the finish. For our mains we got the Camaronea Nayarit, Cochinita Pibil, Chile Relleni, and Enchiladas Mole. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I would've preferred the tails be removed from the shrimp and a little more heat, but overall it was tasty. Service was also very attentive. I drink a lot of water and the woman covering the water was on it. For drinks, our friends ordered mojitos, husband a spicy margarita, and me a non-alcoholic tamarind margarita. Husband was impressed by the spiciness of his drink, which is a huge compliment. My drink got mixed up and I ended up with an alcoholic strawberry margarita, which was promptly corrected. It would be nice to see more NA options featured. I didn't even catch the part on the menu where it noted cocktails could be made NA, it was very discreet. The food was very tasty, came out nice and hot and the portions were perfect. I had the shrimp and al pastor tacos and my husband had the shrimp fajitas...delicious! So let me get this straight... each taco gets ONE red onion strip? I put more love into microwaving leftovers at home. My dad had the steak which thought it was mostly flat tasting. He agreed. My brother had the enchiladas suizas. Mehh. His girlfriend had the shrimp dish. I can honestly say that the shrimp was quite good. But I only got a taste of that. I've ate at La Victoria (their sister bar) last summer and i didn't have the finger bandwidth to write up how disappointed I was. I was a little less dissatisfied here too but not by much.
