5 stars is not enough stars. Anish remembered my name, even after I waited for a bit, he always referred to me by my name. The restaurant was really busy (they just had a table or 20 show up!) but he and his team managed to provide good service in spite of it. Then the food came and it was amazing. We got chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and madras chicken curry. He walked us through the order and even recommended the best Indian beer. On Canada day, we chose to relish ourselves with Indian buffet. We were going to choose between Indian curry restaurant and Masala. Glad we chose this pace. Atmosphere was nice and less of chaos. They received us well, and made us comfortable. It was long wait to be seated, but worth the wait. The lunch buffet consist the following. Indian salad with channa, cucumber and green leaves. Went on a Saturday at around 1:45pm, buffet style. The buffet hardly had any food and limited options. Hot fresh naan was to be brought to our table. Despite these red flags, we trusted the host and the great reviewers of Yelp and Trip Advisor. The buffet was not refilled despite the host saying it was coming in hot, so we took whatever little veggie curry there was and butter chicken sauce. Then we waited for the hot naan that was promised. A young couple arrived after us and took similar dishes on their plate. The hot naan was taken to their table first...yup. So we went up to host and kindly reminded him. He said it was coming in hot...we got the naan and it was 2 hot pieces and 3 cold pieces. After bringing this to his attention, he told us we were wrong and it was hot. Bruh...we told him to touch it for himself after which he apologized. We finished up our plates and upon seeing that the buffet was not going to be refilled, we went for the dessert. When it came time for the bill the host said to pay for only one plate (instead of 3) and to not tip. That sums up the experience. read more

Masala Authentic Indian Cuisine is a great dining option. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and fits the menu that is served. There were some quirks in terms of maintenance -- I felt as though it was not as clean-cut as it could have been. The attention to detail can definitely be improved upon. I felt as though the washroom is not easily accessible as it is located in an entirely different floor and required stairs to access. The menu itself has a variety of options to choose from. In terms of the entrees and appetizers, it was packed. The beverage options also had a wide-arrange of assorted drinks. The food was delicious but the portion sizes could definitely be improved upon. The small bowls you are given is packed with flavour but very underwhelming when presentation is considered. Rice and Naan bread is ordered separately and, in particular, the portions of rice are quite minuscule so beware. In terms of Indian cuisine, I felt it tasted great but the flavour could have been more developed and strong. The complimentary appetizers and sauces we were provided with is appreciated. The service at this restaurant was nice. It was not the most approachable and friendliest experience -- it was pretty cut and dry which is not bad per say. They answered our questions knowledgeably and with patience. The food came incredibly fast and efficiently. We had zero problems at all in terms of the service. read more

The food is good, but lacks the small touches that can make it great. Outside of the biryani, the consistency of the chicken here is more like paneer, which is quite weird. If you want to brave the long lines, just make sure you ask for spicy (promise you it's not that spicy). The service seems spotty, but they were pretty slammed when we went to get our takeout. We ordered Gobi Chilli, Chicken Lapetta and Dal Fry with Roti and naan. All dishes were very tasty. Chicken Lapetta had mushrooms as well in it. That was a nice surprise. There is not much variety of food in banff. Our group was tired of burgers so we searched some places and found this one to be a good match to something different. We had a reservation for 8:30pm and got sat on time. You could smell the food from outside and that was a great sign. I love Indian food so I was so happy to try a different Indian restaurant. I ordered a glass of the Malbec wine they had on the menu, but it wasn't the best choice. It seems like it was an old wine and it was store improperly or it had been open for more days. I would recommend you to go with a beer or something easier if you would like a good refreshment for your meal. When ordering our meal we realized the rice is not included with your dish, so you should make sure you get a side of rice. One bowl serves 2 people; it is lots of rice. We ordered the vegetarian samosas and they came out on time. The were good I just wish they could have been a little more crispy for my taste. The main course took a really long time. Don't know if they were cooking it to order or they just take long. I stared to get hangry so by the time the food came out I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of my chicken korma before starting. Service can use help. Our dishes weren't changed between appetizer and meal and they just tried to avoid us so we didn't ask questions about the status of the food. The food was really good, so that made me happy even though we waited for so long. It was worth the wait. The dal makhani was one of the best I have ever tasted in any Indian restaurant. As an Indian, I always try out the local South Asian spots whenever traveling, and I keep my expectations low because coming from Houston, Texas (an ethnic food Mecca) nothing ever compares. BUT WOW, this place blew us away!!! I would recommend calling ahead and making a reservation, because they do get very full and will turn you down (we tried to go our last night in Banff and unfortunately were too late). I believe this is what we ordered: Fish pakodas (can't remember the exact name), daal makhni, palak paneer, malai kofta, vegetable biryani, plain rice, and naan. This time I went in a pick season, and the table was not even cleaned, felt sticky, urinal was out of order and they forgot a tea order. We decided to order family style dining. We ordered the typical Indian dishes we're familiar with from the San Francisco Bay Area where we reside. Well, weren't we surprised. Best Indian food the five of us had ever eaten. We couldn't say enough about it. Best dish for me - the butter curry chicken. And the naan was very good. The food was slow to come out of the kitchen but it was worth the wait. As we were leaving, the restaurant began filling up. The next night we looked into the restaurant as we walked by - it was packed inside & people waiting outside. Give it a try if you're a fan of Indian food. Without into the physical space and presentation, I can say that the food here was really excellent. The menu contained virtually all of the staple dishes you would ordinarily find at any Indian restaurant. Because I was there with a large group, we were able to sample about 10 entrees, both vegitarian and animal-based options. Everything that came out of the kitchen was delicious and enjoyed by the entire group, which included experienced and novice Indian food eaters. Ultimately, the bill was very reasonable in light of the serving size (generous) and the overall quality. Unlike some restaurants, where most of the sauces taste like they came out of a jar of Patak's, everything here tasted homemade and fresh. Tow points where you may want to pay particular attention: 1) everything we ordered came out "hotter" that I might have expected. Not burning, but definitely had a serious kick which which you should expect for dishes that are customarily served as spicy. 2). The Bergen Bartha was great. This is not usually a dish that gets a lot of attention, but eggplant had a great smokely flavor which is very tasty with eggplant. If you are looking for a veg dish, definately give this a try. read more
