I was a little skeptical about this place since it was empty on a Saturday night. But we decided to stay and I'm glad we did! The masala tea was great - a very simple, but delicious Chai tea. We got the lamb samosas and veggie samosas - both were packed full of goodness and perfectly fried. Then we got palak paneer, chicken vindaloo (just the right amount of heat), and plain naan. Really excellent lunch buffet. Friendly staff. Totally fair prices (lunch is actually really cheap). We've had take-out dinner and lunch buffet here. The weekend lunch buffet was amazing - they had a very well-balanced selection of dishes: saag paneer, vegetables curry, chicken tikka masala, goat curry and a few other dishes (lentils curry and sweet-spicy chicken on a sizzling plate). In addition, they had a condiments and desserts bar that had fresh fruits, rice pudding and all kinds of chutneys. The food was fresh and didn't feel buffet like - what I mean is that the quality is as if you ordered the dish off of the menu instead of having a compromised quality just because it's all-you-can-eat (which happens a lot at other local Indian buffets). The mango lassey was very fresh - a bit tart compared to others in the area, which is exactly what I like because I can really taste that mango instead of just the sugary yogurt. We would definitely come back for the lunch buffet again! The restaurant also gets points for being super neat and clean. Also - did I already rave about the goat curry? If I haven't, now I am. The food felt like it was homemade filled with love. Chicken Tima Masala is perfect! I love the creamy texture of curry and the chicken was just right to chew. Garlic Naan is always fresh. There's enough garlic, and cilantro and it's not burn underneath the bread. I don't know how to do it but they always get it right. You also have to try their drink called sweet laci. Delicious food. Bad service. Our order missed soup which was one of the reasons we ordered one of the dishes. Called back to let them know. They were accusing us of lying and crucifying us. They said they'd send the delivery man with our soup and it came like an hour later and its basically just some raw chicken and peas in water. Rude people who probably pissed in the soup. The ambience is functional, the booth seats are a nice touch. The place is small, so the quiet tables by the window were taken and there is something wrong with the acoustics, so conversation was virtually impossible. Now the food. I was with my pal and we had the buffet. The food was average Indian. The chicken masala tasted like it was like out of a packet. I was eating the chicken on a bone dish and that is probably why there were three razor sharp bones in my food, that I discovered to my alarm in my mouth. Good job I am a slowish eater. I was going to complain but I did not want to embarrass my pal who is a regular there. This place is very average Indian. The shrimp dish was OK, but flavorless and the vegetables were not cooked right. The spinach and mushrooms were OK, a simple dish, the naan bread was good, but it is hard to screw that up. Overall the place is average and all he dishes lacked flavor. Cooked without heart or experience, or both. But the reason for a lot of stars deduction was the sharp chicken bones pieces that I nearly swallowed. I would have ended up in the ER with a perforated colon. I know someone that happened to and he had a terrible time and was dead a few years later. So should I complain to the health department? You tell me. The bottom line is that if this happened, it reflects that the kitchen does not give a shit about the job. There is no pride in this place. One of the best groupon deals I've had. I purchased the $21 for a three course meal" groupon and went to dinner that night. Positives: The food was FANTASTIC. I ordered palak paneer and it was some of the best I ever had. My boyfriend ordered lamb tikka masala and really enjoyed his meal as well. Negatives: Lots of people had the same idea as we did to use their groupon that very night. The restaurant was not accustomed to so many customers. Our waitress was very delayed in taking our order and bringing out our food. It took her a very long time to tell me they were out of the wine I'd ordered so I could order another one, and then that glass was a long time coming. More often than not, we had to flag someone else down for extra naan or water. Overall, I will be definitely be going back because the food was worth it, and I'm willing to give the service a second try. read more

My friend and I were on our way home and were really hungry and decided to use Yelp to find a place to eat that was still open after 9pm around out area. We were looking for something with an Asian flare and this place popped up. We sat at the bar because we wanted to watch the game and was greeted by a a very friendly waitress/bartender. Turns out she is part owner and helped us choose what to eat. My friend and I have had Indian food before but never Nepalese. Our waitress was very helpful describing the dishes, sauce, spice level etc. I tried the goat while my friend got a shrimp dish and they were both good. Not great though....my dish was on the salty side but that could be how the dish is. My friends shrimp dish was a little bland. Since the food wasn't awful and it's the first time I'm trying a new cuisine....I always give a place a second chance to impress me. We had chicken tikka masala and a tandoori mixed grill...I would also recommend ordering a side of the raita sauce (yogurt sauce) to go with naan. We had a lovely open air table, $3 dollar margs. I've never been disappointed in the food. There was only *one* time that we had a waiter who was completely out of it. All the waitresses are great. I've gone to many Indian buffets in the Somerville/Cambridge area, and Masala is hands down the best! I'm not going to say you will get michelin star level food, but (I also admit that I will find any south asian food absolutely delicious) it was very satisfactory for the price. I recommend trying the Tibetan tea, if you're adventurous. It's like chai but with salty butter. May not be your cup of tea, but hey, it's only 1.50 and you will get to try something new.
