I was really impressed with the food here. They have a bit of a slightly odd fushion menu and also the more traditional offerings. I haven't tried any of their fusion dishes so I can't comment on that. But everything I've tried has been really flavorful and well cooked. Chicken biryani was perfectly moist and seasoned, lamb korma wasn't too sweet and the lamb was perfectly cooked, samosas are good, lassi is good. I've enjoyed their buffet option but I generally prefer to order off the menu. The restaurant is nice and clean. It's fairly spacious but it tends to get really busy in the evenings. We came to enjoy a special birthday dinner on a warm afternoon and sat outside. We looked over the menu and decided to try the Mango Olive salad. The salad was served with a myriad of ingredients including fresh dressing, generous serving of mango slices and fresh red onions. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala with rice and naan. It was an extra sweet dinner because we ordered the mango kulfi ice cream for the first time. I've been coming here since our friend group found out they had a lunch buffet and it's absolutely delicious. Whenever we have the chance, we try coming in and enjoying all they have to offer. Their butter chicken is super savory and a great pairing for their rice. The chicken lollipops are so addictive and you'll need at least 10 to satiate your craving. The service is also incredible. They will consistently check on your table, ask if you need any naan, and will take any plates away you're not using anymore. Other Indian places I've tried have been super spicy and in my opinion this one is nice and mild. When we order we usually stick to the same items for starters: Avocado Bhel, Cauliflower Bezul, and Semosas. The waitstaff has always been nice and attentive. This place is a hidden gem (across the street from Nikka Ramen and TJs) for excellent Indian food. The lunch buffet on Sunday is amazing even with a dosa station. They even have their signature Sri Lankan fish curry as part of today's buffet that's worth our 50+ mile each way drive from Camarillo. The place is clean and nicely decorated too! read more

We went for lunch buffet it was $20 per person. Was somewhat underwhelming. Tandoori chicken was dry and naan were stale and cold. Some naan looked like they had garlic on them but no flavor. Lamb vindaloo was very good. Tender, large pieces of meat and no gamey smell. Chicken tikka masala was good too. It was odd that they had sambar but no idli or vada. No biryani no pulao only white rice. Usually buffets have two sweet dishes they only had gajar halva, no kheer, no rasmalai, no gulab jamun. I think because it's run by Nepalis they aren't as familiar with Indian food norms and standards. It's quite alright but nothing like what you'd get in LA or OC for a much lower price. read more

I love coming to Masala Spice! We were in the mood for some South Indian food - the Dosa's and idli here are really great! It's also the only spot in SB county to make them! Wildly inconsistent flavor and portions--with take out orders. Sometimes, the lamb korma is good and exactly what you expect, sometimes it is bland and tastes nothing like Indian food. Sometimes you get a good portion of meat, sometimes there's literally 2 bites. In their TOAST menu, soup orders are pictured with bread, but don't expect any bread with your order. Kormas, curries, etc are pictured with rice, do not expect rice with your order unless you explicitly order it. Front of house staff isn't the problem--they are nice people, we have no problem with them. But when midweek lunch costs $40 (with tip) for one person, and that doesn't include rice or naan and the food is inexplicably bland....the whole thing feels like a rip off. read more

And surprisingly both their North Indian and South Indian fares are spot on, which is a rarity. We ordered the cauliflower bezule, chicken tikka masala, madras gotsu, sri lankan ali kiri hodi, and sides of naan and garlic naan. My favorite was the chicken tikka masala, but everything was so good! The buffet is good, but getting the food made to order was game changer. The staff is really nice here and were very attentive. My boyfriend and I were brave enough to tackle the all you can eat buffet during a road trip. Best decision ever. The dosa station is fantastic. Imagine an omelet station but with crispy Indian crepes with samosa filling. The tandoori chicken is a grand slam with a cricket bat. Superb char but juicy on the inside and the seasoning was a bat flip with the same cricket bat. My boyfriend really enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and masala paneer even after he discovered cheese and not tofu. The seasoning on the vegetable korma was outstanding. I stopped by on the way home from SB and glad I did. We do not have any Indian food in Santa Maria so it's always a trek to get some and, sometimes, it doesn't deliver. Luckily this place was good! friendly service and good pricing for the portions. Butter chicken- delicious and depth of flavor. I think this made me realize that I prefer Tikka Masala for the spice vs the non spicy butter chicken. Either way this delivered on flavor. Rice-i love that even 2 days later the rice did not need to be re-hydrated. This, to me, is always a sign of great rice. There's nothing worse than having to add water to your leftovers. Cooked well and paired well with the Butter chicken. Naan- the butter nan was delicious. Again, even the day after it wasn't all hard or stale, quick reheating made it just as fresh. The garlic nan had a bit too much garlic. Not a huge fan of chunks of garlic all over the top. It's a bit messy and overpowering but still good. Overall a great Indian place. I didn't do 5 stars because I do believe there are better places but still, if you want some good indian food, you won't be disappointed. Had dinner here last night during a work trip to UCSB. Food was good: we got butter naan and garlic naan to go with shrimp vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. I will say that we got the chicken tikka as "mild" and I would say it tasted less mild and more medium spice to us. The shrimp we ordered "spicy" and it was a good level of heat. Called up the restaurant to ask if they could make anything without onion and garlic for my dietary restrictions and they had a few options like paneer tikka Masala, okra, dal makhani and a few more. The naan doesn't have egg either so worked well for my restrictions! We got the paneer tikka Masala and bhindi (okra) Masala - both spicy and it was really flavorful and super satisfying. Another great dinner. The chef/owner Raj came out to greet us. Made me a special vegan dessert for my birthday. It was delicious. My non-vegan friends enjoyed the warm chocolate molten cake and the pink ice cream. I know that sounds weird but it was delicate and lovely according to them. The poppadoms are light and perfect. Wonderful chutney and sauces. As always we were lucky to get one of our favorite waiters ever - Rishi. You can tell he's been well trained. He had been doing the program at the Bacarra hospitality before Covid. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I even got a great tip on a new movie to watch We met another waiter who is fairly new. His background is in technology. He was fantastic as well. They all made me feel so celebrated on my birthday. Expensive and not good. Being from London I love Indian Food Was excited to try it. I ordered the Lamb Tiki Marsala. Doesn't even come with rice. It was so tough and the sauce tasted like Ragu sauce out of a jar. Not authentic at all. The Naan bread was good . Won't be back . read more
