We were referred to GHT by our midwife Tasha Boyd at Rainbow Midwifery, who delivered our baby. We…read moresought a pediatrician with a holistic, Pro-Choice approach, focusing on preventive care, emotional and mental well-being, and natural remedies in conjunction with conventional treatments, which is exactly what Growing Healthy offers. We make it a point to visit this facility annually for our check-up, and we're always impressed by the kindness of the front desk staff, the informativeness and helpfulness of the nurses, and the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility.

My experience with this visit was disappointing, especially considering that we chose this practice…read moreas private-pay patients based on its philosophy of care. During our discussion, I was explaining my concerns about delaying a certain medical schedule (not refusing it completely) but I felt the conversation became more of a lecture than a discussion. I would have appreciated a more collaborative approach to addressing our questions. I was also surprised by several recommendations that were presented as personal preferences, including that baby-led weaning is better than purées and a recommendation to avoid traveling with children until they are 2 years old. Given that my baby is not yet sitting up independently (she's 5 months old and still floppy), I would have preferred guidance that was more tailored to her developmental readiness, along with an explanation of the evidence behind these recommendations. One of the reasons we chose this practice was because the website states that they work collaboratively with families regarding certain healthcare topics. Unfortunately, that was not our experience during this visit with Mike. Rather than feeling that our questions were explored through a collaborative discussion, we felt that there was limited opportunity for dialogue. I value providers who explain the reasoning behind their recommendations, discuss the available evidence, and partner with families to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, I left feeling that there was limited opportunity for discussion or individualized guidance.

It makes the experience all the more easier to accept/surrender to & integrate. I've just started going to sound baths a few months ago, but I can definitely say that his are a favorite of mine. His donation-based business is a blessing for all those who seek healing at any income bracket! I've experienced his healing abilities at several different places, but his presence at Yoga on the Bluffs and his group sound baths on the beach are my faaaav. The beach is one of my favorite places in the world, so I looove that he hosts his healings out at the beach, under the stars. It makes for such a beautiful experience that is different every time. Just make sure to bring a beach towel & blankets!! I go so often that I carry a sleeping bag in my car for these occasions. Whatever you may feel, hear, see, or experience during your healing, Red is always so reassuring and insightful about your experience. I learn something new about myself and the world around me at each sound bath I attend! The people he attracts to these group sound baths are also such a delight! Every person I've met is such a beautiful soul who wants to keep learning and growing into themselves. It's overall an inspiring experience and community he's building. You can definitely call me a regular

Kelly helped us to gather and purchase three things: small dried chinese ginseng root ($9), Herbal Tea Blend ($6) to hopefully remediate canker sore symptoms, and a custom made herbal oil ($20) for natural pain management. She spent quite a bit of time with us, since the last two things needed the backroom to custom formulate. Square is their payment processor, with credit cards and Venmo being accepted. Types of product: -- a large collection of herbs, available as single ($10 per oz) or combined ($15 per oz). -- donated herbs and dry goods section: visitors can place or take shelf-stable products. Would have thought -- collective: various donation based sponsored clinics/classes. one example is 'Intro to Herbalism', taught once a month (first Saturday of every month). -- chocolates from Endorfin foods -- custom made essential oils, with testers -- incense sticks and sets -- loose teas at $3 - $4 per oz -- books and literature -- apothecary supplies -- gemstones and tarot cards The inside is super organized, promoting a sense of calm to explore. Kinda reminded me of some of the shops in Sedona, AZ. Their website is also very good, neatly organized to help you find what you need. Parking is limited (one driveway spot for customers), but street parking in the area during the day is not so bad. I think the best description about their business is what they wrote about themselves: "Green Wisdom provides highest quality bulk herbs, ethically sourced, and apothecary ingredients and supplies. We have a skilled herbalist on staff at all times to answer questions, create personalized formulas, and offer assistance. We are also one of the most respected herb schools in California, offering apprenticeships, workshops, and individual classes. In 2020 we will be providing donation-based herb clinics staffed by our advanced apprentices and overseen by trained herbalists."

This is the only herbal apothecary in the area that I'm aware of and it's also one of the few affordable apothecaries in Long Beach. You can tell their mission is really to make herbal remedies and medicine from the earth accessible to everyone. All of the women I've encountered who work at and run this door are deeply knowledgeable. My favorite activity is to go here with some type of issue or ailment and to ask them to make me a custom tea blend to help support my body's healing capacity. But this place is so much more than tea and herbs! It's a lovely little marketplace which features crystals locally made honey and handmade trinkets of all kinds! Every visit feels like a unique, tiny adventure and I look forward to coming every single time.

I tried out Svastha for the introductory 2 week offer and I liked it quite a bit. By my second visit Siva already remembered me by name. I mostly took the Detox class with Siva and the Build Fire class with Matt, and these were both enjoyable and rewarding. Although initially it may not seem very convenient, I like the way the classes are scheduled according to the appropriate time of day for the particular healing objective - it makes a lot of sense to build fire in the morning and detox & unwind at the end of the day. I also like the way that Svastha has really taken the time to do things right in terms of getting to know the community and the local neighborhood. For the whole first month they were open, all the classes were free. They have continued to offer free yoga classes from time to time that are staffed by volunteers. The regular classes are reasonably priced compared to other yoga studios, and they are the only yoga studio in the area to offer a student membership. The focus at Svastha is really on health and healing. There is a great deal of information about ayurveda on their website, and they offer consultations. There is a small retail section of the studio with yoga and ayurveda related products, and as a green business, you even get 10% off a retail purchase if you walk or ride your bike to the studio. They have been gathering customer feedback about the kind of classes people want and what days and times are best, so I look forward to their new schedule when hopefully they will have more classes on the weekend.
