    Egusi at its best!!!
    Rain M.

Ok...so...this is my 1st time trying Egusi Soup. May I say that I am so grateful for the owners of this establishment. It was AMAZING!! The spice level was subtle but the flavor was definitely there!! Thank you so much for the savory experience!! I am a HUGE fan!!

    Vegan Platter

This was the the vegan option but it was delicious and spicy. Beans and rice were tasty, the chutney salsa side was super flavorful and the plantains were sweet and perfect! The veg was basic but in combo with the plate it was very good. Leftovers the next day were just as good. Atmosphere was basic but friendly. I would definitely go back.

I got Egusi soup combo with the fufu, dine in, and it was very tasty!! I only give 3 stars since service was slow, had to wait 17 mins. Thankfully I had time and all so wasn't as big a deal. They packaged it to go, so I asked for a bowl and they kindly gave me. I ate there, then had leftovers to say the least, very filling. This is only my 4th African meal anywhere, and just 3rd West African meal, so definitely helped progress my adventure in the cuisine. While I def liked the food a lot, I think I'll try one of the other African places the next time I'm in Louisville. Maybe I'll be back, maybe not

I tried out the jollof rice with lamb. The service was fast. The rice and lamb were both good.

Wow. Just wow! This was my second time getting take out from here and everything was so good. I have been looking for a good African food spot for a few months. I ordered the Chep Garnar, Yassa Garnar and grilled lamb. The meat was flavorful and so tender!! Will definitely be going back for me!

Calling all adventurous foodies, come check out Mashallah and you'll be glad you did. The restaurant is actually a few tables and chairs inside Mor's International Grocery store in the heart of Buechel. The restaurant is opened around 12:30 p.m. and serves food until 9, or whenever food runs out. The menu is on the wall, behind the counters (away from the cashier), consisting of items made each day and a handful of appetizers. It's really just there for reference. The menu is whatever 2 dishes the chef decides to make that day. Ask at the front and order all of them! We had the chep garnar: jollof rice (combination of rice, onions, spices, assorted veggies) and chicken. The soft rice soaked up all the delicious flavors from the spices, vegetables and meat. The chicken is tender and fall off the bone delicious. Our second dish was plasas, spinach cooked with palm oil and a few meats I can't decipher. I'm pretty sure we saw a chunk of fish as well. It was rich and creamy, perfectly paired with white rice. The portions are big for $10, you can get small also for $6.99. It's a non traditional restaurant, you order at the front, grab drinks from the fridge, seat yourself and pay at the counter when you finished. The owners are from Sierre Leon and the menu items are traditional west African dishes. Regulars are those coming to get a taste of home. Check it out and you won't be disappointed. Actually, I take that back. My main complaint is that there are not more items to try!

First time here. Cannot wait to try this food!

While shopping at Darou Salam I asked if the food was good and they said yes. So I took a chance and went over. The shop is medium sized and welcoming. When I walked in I was greeted with a smile. The place is clean and the smell will pull you in. I decided on the fried fish with salad. Everything was very good and I will be back. Bring your friends and family!

This is a grocery store/restaurant. The grocery store itself has typical dried goods like beans and rice. They also have fresh poultry in a refrigerator towards the back. Typical beverages mixed with some beer and imported juices. The restaurant part are really tables laid out to the side of the store. I wouldn't necessarily recommend eating there, it can be a little awkward. The food is delicious though. I got their lamb with fried rice today, this was immaculate. I wish I knew what region of East africa this food is from...fried rice had good portions of onions , peas, and green beans. The lamb was falling off the bone tender and juicy. If you want takeout but something cultural, I'd definitely stop in if given the chance. They do sometimes run out of food late in the evening so try to get here before 6.

Thursday special Chep garner (Jollof Rice) Red rice with chicken an onion sauce cooked with shrimp an mixed vegetables on the side.

It's in a shopping center off of old bardstown road. Very busy area but not to crazy inside the restaurant when I went which was at 12pm on a Thursday. The food wasn't bad at all. The Jollof rice was good mixed with vegetables an if you like heat. They gave me some pepper sauce on the side. That is fire. If you like spicy food give that pepper sauce a try. The chicken was tender and moist. Delicious! Is all I can say. I will come back again an maybe attempt dinner next time.

Not even sure how I found it but I think it's run by a couple of sisters. Super nice service, very spacious, plenty of indoor seating, easy parking. I like that it feels open and homey. I got the Liberian Gravy w/ shrimp and the Torborgee with rice. The Liberian gravy really reminded me of a chinese egg and tomato dish. The gravy isn't like your typical brown gravy. It's more of a tomato based sauce flavored with some spices. It's pretty hard for me to describe... but it is more on the tart side as far as savory dishes go. Torborgee was more my speed. The beans were cooked to a nice soft consistency and felt nice and hearty since it was so cold outside. I loved the flavors it was cooked with beef in it which gave it an amazing heartiness. very earthy flavors. 10/10 would get again. Wish I got to try the fufu but. alas. maybe on a different trip. Got some kanyan to go. kinda like rolled balls of crunchy bits and peanut butter? or something? tasted kinda nutty, felt like it had crunchy bits of dry noodles or something w some nice spices and sugar. Was definitely an interesting snack, would get it again. oh they also make this chili paste? in house which is SOOOOOOOOOO good. reminded me of this african chili oil i had a few years back. man. would come back for that alone.

The soup flavor was different and I would have been able to eat it, however, there were so many bone chips/chunks. Almost every bite I took had bone in it. I couldn't eat any more of it. The fufu was interesting. It didn't have much flavor, but my daughter loved it! That is pretty much all She ate. The chicken and rice was very good! It was very flavorful and yummy. The plantains were probably some of the best I have had. We got 2 dishes for 4 of us...2 adults and 2 kids. Had we actually eaten the soup it would have been a sufficient amount of food for all of us, so the serving sizes were generous. Just about all the dishes were $20 each. The service was pretty blah. There were teenagers working and not being very attentive. The girl that took our order and rang us up tried to drastically undercharge my husband. Good thing he is honest because he had to ask several times if that was the correct price, she finally figured it out. There was a young man who took over when she left. He was more attentive than she was. If someone wanted to come here and pay for it, I would join them, but I wouldn't choose to come here again on my own. I wanted to get a picture of the chicken and rice but I couldn't before my kids dug in.

It was a Thursday when I went in, so I tried the Thursday special of egusi, which is a seafood soup with lots of vegetables and herbs. While it was not my cup of tea, I definitely wanted to try something I knew nothing about, and I'm very happy I tried it. I also tried the fufu, and this was super interesting, and I did enjoy it. The locale is very unassuming, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to be back in the area to try more new dishes!
