Very high quality food though and the portions for the main meal were huge (probably enough for 2 meals for the majority of people). I tried the kufta and chicken plate (with hummus, rice, and salad) as well as the baklava. The chicken was super tender and delicious. The garlic oil sauce gave it extra moisture, but it was already great the way it is. Cooked to perfection. The chunks are a bit big, but easy to eat. The kufta was equally delicious. It had a bit more seasoning than the chicken, which I liked. Once again, great flavors. They give you a fair amount of rice which is very fluffy and well cooked. It came with a vibrant little salad. It was fine, nothing too crazy. I really liked their take on croutons. They were more crispy than the average crouton and added a ton of savory flavor. The baklava was pretty good. Probably not the best I've ever had, but still solid. The price is very reasonable. I would have liked a more sweet and syrupy baklava. Really what set this place apart from others was the service. I was trying to find this place and randomly ran into the owner, who helped me find it. He was very nice and talked to me about his life, the restaurant, the food, and his experiences in Pittsburgh. He even gave me a free drink! What a great guy. All in all, I highly recommend this place. It's run by awesome people and the food is also super tasty. Very unassuming spot in the midst of more flashy restaurants and bars. But don't be fooled, the food is delicious, filling, and inexpensive. And you get a lot of it! We were nervous about going in because no one was eating when we arrived but later realized there was a huge Worldfest that evening with foods from around the world. It was empty in there. A few people came in and out to order carry out. I'm sure they serve a lot of people who work around here. You order at the counter and sit down. I got the chicken kabob pita sandwich while one friend just got hummus with pita. My other friend got the doro tibs while the other got a vegetarian sampler. We ordered chicken curry plate and kabab plate it comes with pita bread, hamus and rice. They also add portion of salad with their own dressings. The menu of other food items is attached in the pictures. Try their baklava if you like sweets. The food quality is amazing and plenty of place to sit inside out. The bar is not opened but owner said they will open soon. This is the clean place and good spot to eat euthopian food in heart of downtown. The staff is very friendly, hospitable and answer all the questions regarding food menu. As Indian I can relate the food taste with Indian food. Definitely recommended Addis. I'm hoping that this was just a slow night for Addis because for most of my meal, I was the only one there. I'd been wanting to try Ethiopian for some time and I was glad I did. The two distinct features that makes Ethiopian cuisine unique are the enjira and the lack of silverware. Enjira is like a grain pancake on top of which your entree and sides are placed. You then tear off a piece of the enjira and scoop up your food like a spoon. I chose the spicy lamb and the given sides were a yellow cabbage and a green bean dish. All were good. We've most recently found a fondness for Mediterranean food. So in getting ready to go see Dracula at the Actors Theatre in Louisville, I looked up some places close to grab a bite. Addis Bar and Grill came up and they had an explosive menu of Mediterranean foods, gluten free, Ethiopian and vegetarian dishes. So many to chose from. We were greeted promptly coming in and we could pick our seating. Soon our drink order was taken and the place wasn't initially busy but started to fill as we were approached by the chef. She asked if we had any questions and also took our order. We observed some other couples that had just received their food and it looked so delicious and plentiful. In fact we drew attention from the others and they kindly asked if we had any questions and told us this was their favorite places due to the food being so good. I had chicken in a yogurt based sauce and my wife had meatballs with the Mediterranean flair of spices. I will say I preferred my chicken to the meatballs, but they both were delicious and the humus and naan bread was just right hint of seasoning. I love this restaurant! They offer both Ethiopian and some Mediterranean dishes for highly reasonable prices. In the past year or so, the restaurant has doubled in size due to a renovation expansion. The owner and his wife mostly run the restaurant with hardly any other help. So, sometimes the service might be a little slow, but OMG the food is soooooooo well worth the wait. Their food is freshly-made daily and sometimes they may run out of really popular item. We arrived for dinner on a Friday night and ordered grape leaves for an appetizer. To my dismay, they had run out. Drats! I was disappointed because I really had a hankering for some grape leaves. Amazingly, I forgot about that once we ordered and received the hummus that we ordered as a replacement. It had a smooth, velvety consistency and was topped with organic (hard-to-find) olives. I've eaten hummus from a lot of places, but I've never had it with added whole olives atop. My Beau got the Athenian chicken, which was amazing. He claims that it is the best chicken he has even tasted. My dish consisted of chicken stewed in onions, tomatoes, peppers and garlic, then seasoned with Ethiopian pepper sauce and Ethiopian light butter. Two additional sides (cabbage and green beans & carrots) came with the meal. Man, if my tongue could talk....it would still be sprouting positive adjectives about this food.
