This place is cool for the little bit of time that we did spend late Friday night. My bestie and I we arrived about 10:30 close to 11:00 it was just a light crowd people were definitely outside Kicking It. The DJ was playing some good music I was definitely dancing on the dance floor. My bestie and I we ordered a few drinks the drinks were awesome met a few people while we were there super friendly crowd. I didn't get a chance to eat anything so I can't comment on the food... it really wasn't a vibe to order anything that late at night so maybe we'll return back during happy hour and order something from the menu just to give it a try. I must say the bartenders / waiter waitresses behind the bar were super attentive so I did love to see that as well as service with a smile. This place seems fairly small inside from what I gather but in speaking to others that seem to be regulars they said the crowd picks up about 11:30 to midnight on Fridays in case you're interested. We recently stopped by Southern Flair Pub located at the corner of Kempsville Road and Volvo Parkway to grab a bite to eat. It wasn't very busy so we were able to get a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender was friendly and she offered suggestions for drinks and food items. My wife ordered the wings and she enjoyed them very much. They were cooked perfectly, the sauce was slightly spicy and they were served piping hot. I had the barbecue sandwich with collard greens. This is a large portion so I opted to ditch the bun so that I could enjoy the tasty barbecue. The collard greens were seasoned perfectly and I really enjoyed them. The space is small and dark with few table but has a counter top with barstools and TVs on the wall. The place was freezing, the ac definitely works, there were also 3 fans also blowing. The lady from outside who was talking to the two teenagers came in and asked me if I needed help and I said yes, asked me if I wanted the brunch menu but I told her the lunch menu and she said it was on the table. After sitting down, the teenagers came in and sat at the table next to me, I'm guessing they were her kids. She preceded to take my drink order and ask me if this would be for here or to go, I told her for here, and placed my order. As time went on, a group of older women started coming in dressed in pink, along with a DJ. Fast forward 30 minutes, my food finally arrives and there's a gnat or something inside the lid of my drink. At this point I just pay for my food and leave. My food was place in styrofoam containers even though I told the bartender I wanted to dine in. I guess since they were hosting an event there she decided I was going to have my food to go anyway. AWFUL!! DO NOT GO HERE. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!! Service was absolutely atrocious. We were the only people in there and it took 30 minutes to even be acknowledged. And we sat at the bar. I was here last night and had a great time with my good friend! A very small, quaint bar that has a few tables for parties. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich and he enjoyed it-I got a shrimp po'boy sandwich. Both the food and drinks (alcohol) were delicious, and the staff is so nice! They came to check on us often, and were kind from the time we arrived. It was "old school r&b/reggae" night with a DJ arriving after 9pm. Nice atmosphere on Friday nights. It reminds me of a night club minus the dancing. The DJ was great & the bartenders were very friendly too. There are signs asking customers to stand 6' apart, but no one did. The place was PACKED at one point with no seats available. We sat at the bar. The food was pretty good. I ordered shrimp and fries & my friend had crab cake bites. Both were good, but the fries were cold. I truly enjoyed myself. I just didn't care for the weed smoking outside. I checked out this spot with some friends on a Saturday night, 6/15/19. They recommended it since they've been to Southern Flair before and we were attending mainly because a local DJ was spinnin' that night. Apparently, the place gets packed for this DJ as he spins a lot of old school hip-hop and R&B, so my friends wanted me to check it out, too. We arrived around 8p as it was already getting dark outside. It was pretty dark inside, too, but the place was quaint with basic tables and chairs and an "L" shaped bar in the corner (and some TV's scattered about). Since we weren't really there to eat, I can comment mainly on the service. Our server was friendly and quick with our drinks (obviously we were drinking on this night), so we were happy from that perspective. My friend, Roger, raved about Southern's crab-wrapped shrimp, so we ordered one. Based on the name you can easily guess what it is; they take shrimp and cover it with crabmeat then bake it (I believe), then serve it with rice. It was delicious and alone was worth the trip. When my husband picked up the food the service was great. Very friendly. He said that there were many people at the pub. We haven't been there for a few years so my husband decided to pick up food from there and bring it home. Last time we didn't like the food and this time we still don't. We tried to give them a second chance. The macaroni and cheese still has no flavor except a vinegar taste which tells me it was bad or some got accidentally put in it or it was a bad batch. The ribs were tough. The brisket was just ok. The beans tasted like they just came out of the can. The only thing that was on point and had great flavor was the collard greens. So to whoever cooked the collards can you please season the rest of the food like that. If you are going in there for drinks I am sure the place is great. This is probably my favorite neighborhood bar. I can only speak too Thursday and Friday nights. Thursday: Old School Night. DJ is spinning records in all decades including 60, 70, 80s mostly but a little 90s. Crowd over 40 with lay back vibes. Bartender is the bomb with awesome personality that will make you feel like home. Fridays: It is two shifts. First shift like before 8, lay back happy hour atmosphere similar to Thursday with upbeat music from the juke box. When the DJ comes, second shift comes too. Still older crowd but it gets turned up mighty fast. It is a sight to behold with some of the outfits. Smoking: they have a patio out front where all types of smoking goes down. Food: Very good. They know what they doing in that kitchen Dranks: Plan accordingly because they pouring them drinks like your drunk Uncle who came over your house and grab a bottle from your top shelf. Overall, this not a spot to come if your feeling boogie or uppity about yourself. I've been terrible about checking in when we go (we try to put our phones away for date night), but we have been here several times over the last couple of months. Last Saturday we attended for Karaoke night and had a blast! We have been here on both weeknights and weekends and enjoyed ourselves very much. Tara is our favorite Bartender, easily. She is sweet, timely, and has a good memory of what you ordered and when. We also really enjoy Jimmy in the kitchen, as he is a sweet soul who banters with the customers when he comes out to do his stuff on behind the bar and in the dining area. Their prices are a little steep, but they have great specials (if you're looking for a deal)... they're a small business with good service, so we are happy to support them by paying a little more. We love that they're close to our home, local and friendly, and have tons of yummy food choices (not just your standard bar food options)... my personal favorite is their fried green tomatoes and their pulled pork philly sandwich is pretty delicious, too!! read more

However, I wouldn't come here for the restaurant alone. I ordered the fried chicken and it was super oily in a way where you know it didn't have time to rest and have oil drip off. The steamed broccoli was alright. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries but got the collard greens by accident. Those greens were nasty and I didn't eat them after the first bite. They tasted like they were right out of the can. I didn't say anything at the restaurant because I already felt like the bartender was overwhelmed. I'm sure the original chef didn't cook this!! It was a waste of money and not even seasoned!! I will not return unless they change the chef back to the original and stop cheating people with smaller portions. Highly disappointed and that chef needs to be replaced. We attempted to eat here today, but did not have the opportunity. We came in to a completely empty pub, minus one man at the bar. There were no staff to be seen. About 2-3 minutes after we sat down a woman came out from the back talking on her phone. She did not even bother to make eye contact or acknowledge us at all. The man at the bar said "she will be with you in just a moment" but that moment never came. We waited for over ten minutes while she walked around the bar and entire place talking on her phone without once acknowledging our existence. Thursday night early dinner. Happy hour was on at 5 when we came in. Plenty of seats as the regulars shuffled in. We ordered some cold beers and the two meat combo. Ribs and brisket with two sides collards, onion rings, slaw, macncheese. The meat didnt seem smoked as described, the brisket seemed overcooked and spooned onto the plates. The meats tasted fine tho, tasty sauce. Collards were fine, slaw fine, mac tasted old. Service was nice the staff was super nice. On Fridays I typically get sushi, but something told me to check out the restaurant. I've always been curious because its a fairly new environment. So i called a couple of friends to join me. Soon as i walked in the first thing i noticed is that it had a homey feel to it , and that the decor looked amazing . The bartender was really nice and had an inviting attitude. I went during Happy Hour ( 2-6 pm ) , the drinks were so inexpensive and good ! I had the strawberry, mango, and the regular margarita ( $3.50 each ) . They also have passion fruit to choose from . I also had shrimp and fries which was delicious! On Wednesdays they have paint night , Thursdays they have country music , Fridays they have a DJ , and on Saturdays they have Karaoke . Overall this place is a very nice place to hangout with friends and have a good time , i feel like this is going to be my new favorite place to grab a bite and have some drinks . A friend of ours was visiting from out of town and requested some meat for dinner. My husband went on yelp and said we should try this place. It had five stars (granted from only four reviews), but we were hoping it would satisfy my friend's craving. They have a high tech juke box, but that night they had live entertainment. The waitress was quick to tell us that they were super short handed that evening and we told her it was fine with us. We weren't in any hurry and just wanted to visit with our friend. We ordered the fried pickles. My friend is a bit of a fried pickle snob. The breading is just as important as the cut of the pickle and the dipping sauce that accompanies them. The breading was okay. It wasn't panko style breading so that's a plus, but it wasn't tempura light either. However, the cut of pickle was perfect and the dipping sauce was amazing!! It was even better with onion rings dipped in it! My husband and I ordered two plates to split between us and our 6 year old daughter. She loves steak so we got the sirloin, ribs, brisket, and fried shrimp with mac and cheese, onion rings, collard greens, and corn on the cob. I would completely recommend the collard greens!! Delicious! The brisket was not as I expected. I thought it would be cut like strips of steak, but it was chopped up like BBQ mixed with very sweet BBQ sauce. I didn't really care for it, but I'm sure many people would like it. I am more of a NC vinegar based BBQ type of girl. However, heed my warning, do not order the steak or ribs! Let me start by saying that I am not complaining and I will definitely eat from here again. That being said, this definitely was not what I was expecting. My friends and I have been riding by seeing the small signs along the road and seeing photos of the food online, but we were surprised to walk into a tiny bar. There are maybe 12 4-top tables. Jessica was serving and working the bar. She was awesome. The food took about 35 minutes to come out but was well worth the wait. It was amazing! All of us in our party were pleased with everything. Plus they have a great selection of beer on draft. I feel like there is an identity crisis going on. The place has bar written all over it but they serve next level food. There were only 2 other tables there. I feel like if they revamp the place a little and do a little more advertising, they'd bring in way more business. I don't know, it's just the vibe we got. This Restaurant is located on Kempsville Road, the same shopping center where the former Farm Fresh was located but on the end corner. The atmosphere laid back which I love. I went during my dinner break around 4 it was just one other patrons in there. The waiter was so sweet and down to earth(I can't remember her name but she always work on Thursdays) I ordered Flair's Fried Burrito Wrap with a side of fries! So one of my friends says there's this new spot opening up on August 11th, but he's headed up there during the soft opening and to come thru. I said I'd stop thru for a few before I it the streets to Uber (always working). So what had happened was...I got there at 11:30pm, left (the building) at 2:15am, left the area at 2:45am. That's how much fun I had! Let me start with the staff. Don't get me to lying about their names, but these ladies are WONDERFUL! They talked, joined in with our conversations, it was just a very friendly environment. It felt maybe like a Cheers type of feel (even though I'm bad at names, I'm sure they remember mine). Just beautiful, smart and friendly faces and conversation that kept me there WAY longer than I intended. I didn't really eat much, since again, I wasn't planning on staying long. I was going to get a water, but the lady sitting at the bar recommended the sweet tea. That was dead wrong! It started with the tea that made me want to stay. Then I was told to taste their sauce, which tasted like a barbecue/thousand island mix. I was sitting there dipping my finger in a cup of sauce...WITH NO FOOD! I had to taste this with something, so my friend had some fried mac & cheese. My next thought was "what in the world did I just taste"? Even the fried mac and cheese was on point! At this point, I'm 3 sweet teas in, still dipping my finger in the sauce. Somehow I got talked into trying the peach cider. That was nothing but the truth! I'm not playing! That I hope in time will be fixed. - poor wine selection. If you are going for a more sophisticated clientele, then have something better than Gallo. They need to have a much bigger wine by the glass selection for both whites and red. - the left side of the bar set up is poor- who wants to just stare at a wall. Does not promote any type of conversation with other patrons. Should have been a U shape. - menu needs more Southern dishes rather than just pub flair. After all the bar is called Southern Flair. - Owner should be onsite during the first six months of an opening to meet the patrons and understand what is and is not working. - out of their control now but the location is poor.
