I really want to write these guys a good review because they were recommended to us but the service I received makes it so I can't. They took my money and did not completer the work. They did come and remove two large trees from my back yard but they advised they would come back for stump grinding and never did. I had dig safe come out and ensure it was safe for them and they tried to use that as an excuse and then they just stopped returning my calls. I was told repeatedly that George would call me back then never did and I had to stop using my own phone because they wouldn't answer if my name came up. Too bad because I paid upfront too so I just wasted quite a bit of money and have to pay to have someone else do it or to rent a grinder myself. read more

VERY SATISFIED Mason Tree Service was cutting down trees at a house behind us. My husband went over and the owner George Mason happened to be there dropping some equipment. Explained we had 2 very large trees close to our home that needed to come down, they walked over to our house immediately, gave us a quote, shook hands and said they'd be back the next day to do the work. They were there as promised and worked from 8 am until almost 6 pm cutting down the trees, cutting up some of the smaller limbs for us for firewood, and grinding the stumps. All with precision and smiles in 93 degree heat. The 4 guys were fantastic. George came back later in the afternoon to check on their progress and make sure everything was cleaned up and perfect. Your crew refused for a few minutes to stop chipping so I could move my car and then immediately started chipping before I could even start my engine... you didn't bother to park in front of the house where you were doing the job. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Masons Tree Service to anyone looking for a professional and responsible tree service in the Hampton Roads area. Tuesday morning I woke up to a heavy a quipment trailer and And pick up truck parked in the grass of my front yard and also noticed that they had backed a bulldozer off the trailer in the grass of my front yard so I went over 3 houses down the street and asked politely why they were parking in my yard and to get their quipment and vehicles and trailer off of my grass And was told by David that it would happen right away. Instead of them moving the trailer right away, they left it there over night and when I woke up the next morning not only was the trailer still in the grass in my front yard but now a red BMW that belonged to their employee was parked on the grass too. I called George, the owner, twice and spoke to someone in the office named Ron who was unsympathetic and rude asking me what my point was. I asked Ron to have George come speak to me but never saw or heard from George. The BMW was moved but the trailer stayed there all day. And was finally removed that evening when the job was done. No repairs have been done and George still has not call me. Go figure?? read more

George was the first tree service company to pick up their phone (after reaching out to at least four companies). A couple of hours later, he came to our house and gave us a fair estimate. I was impressed by his knowledge (he has been doing this work for over 30+ years). His four-man crew came by the house 3 days later and did an excellent job in a timely manner. They removed two large pine trees, lifted up our birch tree, a couple stumps, and cleared all excess shrub and branches with clean-up all within 4 hours. George's crew was professional and respectful. His crew leader took very special care of our cherry tree that we wanted to keep that was immediately adjacent to the second tall pine tree we wanted removed. They made sure that the cherry tree was preserved by not inadvertently damaging its limbs and roots. There were a lot of electrical wires nearby which his crew was able to safely work around. My wife and I would recommend Mason's Tree Services for any tree service. We plan to use him again for any future tree and landscaping projects. read more

I had a very large poplar tree right behind house. Mr. Mason and his guys did an excellent job taking down that very large tree, and Mr. Mason did it for a very good price. They also cleaned up well; however, I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received after the fact. First of all, the guys did not put the part of my fence back up properly and now it is difficult to shut the gate. Secondly, Mr. Mason did not call the logger resulting in a temporary scare to us. They took the tree down on a Thursday and Friday (if I remember correctly), but Mr. Mason forgot to call the logger so that we received a notice on Monday from the city advising that the logs needed to be removed from the street or we would be fined. After a couple of phone calls to Mr. Mason, he did notify the logger and the logger did come and take up the logs. Thirdly, the stump still has not been ground. The guys did not grind the stump for safety reasons and legal reasons because the marks done by Miss utility indicated a power line that goes underneath the stump. After the tree was taken down, Mr. Mason advised he had a friend who worked for Dominion Power that would be able to come and grind the stump if I just called him. Mr. Mason promised he would provide me with the phone number for that guy. I made several phone calls to Mr. Mason and sent multiple e-mails to Mr. Mason for this information over a period of three weeks. He did not return the calls or the e-mails. Finally, I reached Mr. Mason and he advised me that his friend no longer worked for Dominion Power but that he would grind the stump if I obtained authorization from Dominion Power. So, I called Dominion Power and they did not know what I was talking about. Then I called Mr. Mason and he advised that he would call Dominion Power on my behalf to get the authorization so that he could come and grind the stump. Mr. Mason advised that would do it this past Monday. It is now Thursday, and I have heard nothing from Mr. Mason. So, I have decided to pay another person to grind the stump Mr. Mason should have ground since Mr. Mason is not very good at returning phone calls, returning emails, or following up on things as promised. If you want a tree taken down for a good prince, then use Mr. Mason; however, if you want excellent customer service then find another tree guy. read more

I would give this company and the owner a -5 if possible!! If you are looking for a tree service PLEASE do yourself a favor & DON'T use this company. I've NEVER met anyone less professional in my life. This company not only dropped part of the tree on my shed & denied it, but they left all the branches & limbs for us to pick up and dispose of. When it came time to pay my bill it was $468 more than the quote. When I questioned why the increase in fees the owner's (George Mason) response was Bi*&@ either pay the bill or I'll call the police and we'll take it to court. I've never been so put off or insulted in my life. Please DON't use this company, and put yourself in the same spot I found myself in. read more
