By this time, Ariel had stepped out and another female employee stepped in. I remarked to her that it was so beautiful and I'd like to try it on, to which she sneered, very obviously looked me up and down, and said, "well, it only really fits a size 2...". Not that it makes any difference what size I am, but I'm between a 4 and 6 and was appalled at her rudeness. I asked the waist measurement (it was definitely larger than a 2) and she didn't know. When I said I'd like to give it a try, she scoffed and said, "well, it's $250, so don't force it". Excuse me?! How dare she say something like that! I'm not a child who is unaware of the delicacy of vintage clothing, and am not disillusioned about my size- I did try it on and it all fit except for the bust, because the waist was very high up on the dress and I have a long torso. The girl asked if it fit, and I told her the bodice was too short, and she replied that the original owner was very short and petite. That's what she should've told me about the size-I'm tall, around 5'9", and it would be very obvious it wouldn't fit if it was tailored for a short woman. Instead she made it about weight with her tone and comments. She then tried to get me to try on the original clothing line, saying it goes well with an "hourglass" shape, but I was so furious and embarrassed that I left. No one should be commenting on anyone's size, no matter how veiled, and to assume I would damage the garment? Uncalled for, unacceptable, and just plain mean. It was not said out of concern for the dress- it was malicious and very ill intended. I also felt like she was insinuating I couldn't afford it, anyway. I'll not return to be treated to poorly, and that's a shame, because this shop has potential.

I bought a dress here after admiring the simple lines and unfussy design of a dress in the window. I didn't have time to try it on, and when it didn't look just right (too shiny for daytime wear) I brought it back and Ariel exchanged it for a more work-appropriate dress, no problem. Everyone who works here is super sweet and goes out of their way to help you in a non-intrusive manner. Joyously recommended to fans of vintage and super-simple, locally made clothes.

The doors were opened and there were balloons and decor and music playing if I recall correctly and there were people gathered inside and flowing onto the outside. I was first greeted by the owner's mother and then by other guests attending the opening day festivities that evening. It was such a nice surprise. I received a whole run down of how the shop worked and was able to make a candle for myself from scratch. It was so delightful to get to meet new and interesting people. I did not know anyone there and Beth the owner, along with her friends and family made me feel so welcomed. What I love most is the premise of the business. Each candle has an affirmation on it . I think I have tried all of them except for "Daring" and gifted one to my parents. The idea is that scent is linked to emotion and memory and that you connect positive experiences and affirmations via the scent to elicit this happy hormone response within your body. I recall her telling me that her sister was the one who was able to speak to the science of it and she (Beth) was the brains behind it in terms of creating scents and the affirmations. I have to say that those candles really helped me immensely, especially during a time that I needed encouragement and motivation the most. I started out using them in Philadelphia and then ordered from the store to have them shipped to me when I lived in Virginia. I would light the candle and then meditate on the affirmation that was printed on the label. It doesn't go without saying that the candles themselves smell absolutely amazing. They aren't like generic or overly nauseating by any means. All of the scents are natural and not overpowering or overwhelming. Some are a bit stronger than others. My particular favorite is "Radiant" because it has notes of grapefruit and peppercorn. It has the revitalizing scent to it whereas my other favorite is "Connected". That one has this softness to it that reminds me of a subtle musk with a powdery touch. I also like that there are custom made matches you can order as well. I felt lucky that they were included with my order complimentary on that grand opening day. It has been maybe about a year or so since ai first ventured into that store and I have been hooked on those candles ever since. So much so that I feel reluctant getting other kinds. I used to be a devout Sand & Fog fan, Bath and Body Works Candle Sale fan, and Voluspa fan, but now I prefer State of Being candles more than those. You can just tell they are high quality candles and I am a fan. They are a bit costly, but you get what you pay for so they are a good value I think. The scents last for a long time. Some scents are more powerful than others, but I prefer the fragrance to be somewhere in the middle, enough to make me notice is there, but no so strong that it is overpowering. You can tell that they are made with love and that is what I appreciate the most. The good vibes and energy that go into them when they are made. I like to think that when I light them up, that good vibes and energy are radiating out from them:) And it acts like energetic medicine ^_^ So, I will continue to buy from them as long as I can afford them lol but highly recommend! They also apparently do workshops and other fun events now as well. I am subscribed to their newsletter so I get to hear all about what I am missing out on lol but if you are ever in Philly and in the area, I encourage you to stop by if you are into fragrances at all, into spiritual/metaphysical stuff like me, and wish to be in good company. Here you can pick up a beautiful shirt or sweater that will make an outfit (and potentially cause heads to swivel). Unlike other boutiques, Linda's carries lines that you will not see everywhere (and definitely not at major department stores). While the clothes have attitude (or at least a point of view), the sales associates do not. They have been gracious and helpful every time I stop in. If you want assistance or a candid opinion, they will provide it; if you just want to browse, they will not hover. Linda's is an "old school" boutique in the best possible way.
