You can see high quality shows at a very affordable price. The youth productions are particularly great for young kids. When our kid was young, we took them to see shows at BPH. They were great shows but also at the price point, if my 4 year old couldn't sit still and we had to leave the show, I would not cry over the ticket price. Our kid did summer camps at BPH every year and they are now part of the youth production. BPH has become their second home. The staff are deeply caring and supportive. Kids are incredibly kind, passionate about musical theater, and supportive of each other. It is a wonderful community where our quirky theater kid found their tribe and has a sense of belonging. Being different is celebrated at BPH. I highly recommend their camps and youth programs to kids who enjoy performing on stage.

It was a nightmare to find a spot anywhere near the theater. I'd recommend leaving yourself at least 20 minutes to find parking before the movie. The food is okay! It's a movie theater, not a restaurant, so don't go in hoping for a gourmet plate of chicken tenders. I enjoy the Rialtos a lot! Long live movie theaters!

I just figured I'd give you a heads up before you do... The theater is a great size- smallish but not cramped and has good acoustics. Parking wasn't a problem for us. The actors were great. *Special shout out to Jay Kiecolt-Wahl. He was stellar in The True West. Now for the recommendations- wrap yourself in scarves, wool, mittens, beanies, long underwear, blankets and perhaps even a hot water bottle. Because this place is C-O-L-D. Bring an extra blanket or if you're from Berkeley, your yoga mat, because you'll bruise your poor little behind. The seats are like old-school movie theater seats but without ANY padding. That means your tushie is right up against some cold, hard wood. And not the kind of hard wood that you want your tushie to be up against. So puhleeze, go support the artsy little guys. This show featured 5 Stand up Comedians - MC -Marc Abrigo, Sandy Stec, Jeff Applebaum,Chris Burns and Headliner Reggie Steel fresh from appearances on Americas Most Wanted and Trauma. The parking is all street so I parked a few blocks away and hiked in to the theater. The show is a Bargain in itself ,It was a Paltry $8 . The Live Oak Theater is a Small Intimate venue with theater seating and great acoustics. The Comedians where Funny as Hell . Topics ranged from Homeless People , White Guilt, Interracial Dating , In Breed Family's ,Dating and the Police. It was a very laughed filled evening . Great Show . After wards I headed to Triple Rock to get my drink on LOL.

I also love when the Director attends a show and offers an audience Q & A afterwards. (That's the Elmwood's management going to bat for their customers, and we appreciate it!) They offer delicious uncontrolled substances from popcorn to wine, and whatever else you may like. All yummy. The theater is well kept and clean. Not everyone cares about that, but I do so I want to thank the Elmwood for going the distance on that score. Last but certainly not least: if you join (for free) their Movie Lovers club, you'll earn a free movie now and then (depending on how often you attend and how much wine and popcorn you buy). Today my ticket was on the house! Whoo hoo!

They've been hilarious!…read more The cast plays off each other wonderfully well, and even if someone makes a mistake, that becomes part of the comedy or a running gag. This is a sign of some good comedians. Plus, there are some very talented vocalists in the group, and doing improv comedic singing is a particular talent that several of the individuals pull off well. So yeah, they're awesome. So this review is only a single review, but there is research from about 20 other people behind it. Everyone I asked would give Stone Soup Improv 4 or 5 stars. My cheeks hurt until Tuesday following the show. Even the skits that bombed were funny. An absolutely great time. I would certainly recommend Stone Soup to anyone who is wavering.

More recently, I saw Broadway star Kelli O'Hara perform. It was wonderful! I will say that (and this is probably due to NIMBY boomers in the city of Berkeley) the audience skewed very old. Maybe we should build more housing in Berkeley so young families and more diverse people can enjoy Zellerbach as I have. Nice service and staff and volunteers. Cal alumni can get discounts. There's a restaurant and bar inside too.
