If you are looking for a basic no frills class, down to the nitty grit, no BS class to get your LTC Certificate, this is the place. I have taken the the basic course before (Not at MFS), I have also taught some of the material during my military career. Yet, The instructor made it entertaining and current. Their customer service has been great, well after I took the course. Their help and advice towards getting your LTC is genuine, not the pipe dreams other places will feed you. The facilities are simple, office/school type place. I found no problem with this since there were some students of the class I wouldn't trust anywhere near a real firearm. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon! The Basic Firearms Safety class was informative and provided a good foundation for getting an LTC in Massachusetts. The instructors were extremely nice and quite funny whilst still providing a professional and educational atmosphere. The live-fire practice session was especially cool; you get to try with both semi-autos and revolvers. Instructors stand right next to you during range time in order to provide guidance and tips. My class had a mix of men & woman ranging from early 20s to mid-50s so nobody should feel out of place. read more

This is the place to go to learn about Firearms safety. They cover every topic from top to bottom. I also took the Conceal Carry 1 course which is a great course to have under your belt if you're interested in knowing your rights in the many possible situations you could face. This course is also an additional help if you're applying for an unrestricted LTC-A in RED towns, as you're demonstrating a great interest in learning more about safety and just use. The instructors are smart (as one would hope), and make some of the dullest material very interesting. I can't compare this place to other places that offer the same courses, but I can tell you there's no reason to go anywhere else, as this place is the real deal. My gf attended as a guest, and despite her not ever having handled a gun before in her life, the instructors were incredibly nice to her, and very patient - I highly recommend bringing a friend. read more

If you're looking to get an LTC in MA or join a range this is the place to go! The basic firearms course as required by MA to obtain an LTC was very well put together. All questions were answered, and the curriculum was arranged in an informative but attention holding manner, the four hour class went by very quickly. If you've never fired a gun before don't worry, there are people of all skills that attend the class, and the course included a live fire session with 1 on 1 instructor support and nobody is judging, for those of us who are more experienced with firearms you can just look at the live fire session as a chance to shoot a revolver and a semi-auto (.22) for "free". Another great part of the BFC at Mass Firearms School is that a paying customer can bring a guest with them to take the course for free, the guest only pays if they want their certificate and they don't have to pay the same day, they can think about it for a while. During the class MFS helped lay out some guidelines to apply for an LTC in MA and even provided a nice map of which towns are "green" or "red", it proved to make the application process very easy. When I joined the MFS range they only had 5 lanes available for target practice, and they didn't have a store. Now MFS is even better they have opened at least 5 more additional lanes and they also now have a fully stocked store. If you're a range member you get to rent any of the firearms MFS has for free which is very neat if you want to try out other guns or simply rent a .22 like I do to save money on ammo. In short, go to MFS if you need the certification for an LTC or want to join a shooting range. They're facilities are very clean, and modern and the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I was walked through the basic fundamentals of how to operate a firearm and how to make proper adjustments to my stance -- things I wished I'd been taught before. I was originally disappointed when I purchased a yelp deal for Mass Firearm. However, I was excited when I found out Mass Firearms School had moved and now had live fire class! The instructor was very professional. Seemed like a nice guy and knew what he was talking about. I had taken an NRA safety course ten years ago so I was expecting information I already knew, but I actually learned a lot. They focus on the pertinent information you need to know. They also try to get the students involved by asking questions. The class actually flies by very quickly. Wish the live fire part of the class was longer though. If you are taking a class at 2 on a Saturday, you might have to park in another parking lot. The parking lot in the back of the building can get a little cramped. read more

The Mass Firearms school is a convenient and accessible path to getting your Massachusetts home firearms safety certification. The instructor at my class, Steven (who is also a minister!) was incredibly friendly, attentive and interested in making sure that everyone was comfortable with the subject matter. The course is very hands-on and lets even those unused to firearms safely learn methods to stay safe with these tools. I took the basic firearms safety course here. I've also had range time with an instructor and made several purchases from their retail store. These guys are top notch. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. My range instructor took the time to show me the ins, the outs, and how to take apart and clean my firearm ( I asked him to do this and he was more than happy to). We then spent the next half hour shooting. He gave me a good number of pointers and at the end of the session I could see marked improvement. The guys in the retail store are great. MFS has a nice selection. The best part of the retail store is the knowledge these guys have of what they're selling. I purchased a firearm at another store closer to where I live recently. I felt like it was a cattle call and the guy helping me either didn't know much about the gun or just didn't feel the need to share. Not the case with MFS. I don't mind the longer drive to Holliston for the better service. If you're thinking of taking a firearm safety course or you already have your license do yourself a favor and head to MFS. You'll be well taken care of and you won't regret the experience. read more

Went to this Mass Firearms location recently on a late Friday morning to squeeze some trigger and relieve some stress with a friend. Upon walking in, we found ourselves in a very well maintained establishment which includes a range (possibly more, I didn't explore the whole place), a store, a classroom and a few other facilities including a bathroom. The friendly staff welcomed us and we were able to rent a pistol alongside an AR-15 rifle and we also purchased some ammo from the store. After clearing up some paperwork, which was a breeze since we're both licensed, we paid and proceeded to the room where our lane was located. It was very well lit, very clean and also had great ventilation which meant that it didn't smell like gunpowder in there which was nice. The target retrieval system was mechanical but that wasn't a big deal and we had ourselves a really good time. It might be slightly on the pricier side, but it might very well be one of the nicest, if not the nicest range I've been to. And if you pay for a membership, you can shoot there more affordably but it wasn't bad. The only downside was that they only had one guy working there that day and he was busy trying to manage the memberships, the rentals and the store so we had to be a bit patient but it wasn't that big of a deal. Parking is limited and I am told it does get quite busy on the weekends so keep that in mind. read more

If you're a shooter, want to become one, or just an occasional plinker, MFS fits the bill. The staff is knowledgeable and they won't blow smoke up your chimney. They'll tell it to you straight. I haven't been upsold on products nor have I been discouraged by their opinions. All in all, this is a great place for new and seasoned shooters. My only complaints are slight and probably nit-picky. No rifle calibers, the target retrieval systems are a little primitive (targets are held by binder clips - it's hard to utilize wider paper targets), they keep replaying Top Shot, and they need to implement a website for their new shop (which I understand they're working on right now). I highly recommend new shooters to take classes here. I also recommend MFS for someone who wants to try different firearms before purchasing them. MFS is also good for people without access to an indoor pistol caliber range. read more

I'm assuming if you are reading this you already want to shoot or looking for a place to shoot. Well, this is it. You've found the right place. Every employee was courteous and professional with an extensive knowledge of firearms. My personal instructor, (i was gonna name him but he might not want me to) walked me through the basics in the stalls. ( I have a basic understanding of how to handle weapons) and I was taught a great many things in such a small time. It's been quite a while since i've gone shooting, and I did not have much direction before this. My instructor taught me so much in such a short period of time. I recommend a private lesson if you are looking to start, its an easy lesson with a bunch of actual shooting time. It's expensive if you didn't know but that should not stop you from giving this place a go. read more

Love this place. Came here last Thursday night with some friends and took the Introduction to Handguns and Rifles experience, this is my first practical shooting class (I also took the Basic Safety class at the old Framingham location) in Holliston. We were there early and waited while strolling in the store, they have an extensive collection of different types of handguns and rifles, selection of ammos, targets, etc. Incredibly organized. We had Peter as our instructor for the class, as none of us have a license yet. After signing a waiver, we had a 10-15 minute quick safety class, and handled/sighted some model handguns and rifles before moving to the actual range. We each shot two types of guns (semi-automatic handgun and revolver) and two types of rifles (semi-automatic rifle and AK-47). Our targets were mounted at 15 yards away and we took turns (10 shots each for the handguns and rifle, 5 shots for AK-47). It was my first time shooting the rifle and the AK-47 recoil was stunning (but fun). Peter made everything casual yet very professional and safe. It was an awesome experience! And since we took this class, we were also offered discounts for the Safety class (which allows you to get license) and range annual fee for the first year. The best part is the safety class can be retaken (if over a year) as a refresher course for no additional cost. A one-on-one private practical lesson with a range instructor only costs $39. And joining the range allows unlimited use of the guns. (Ammo needs to be bought) Overall, it's a great experience and motivated me to finally get my license and join a range! read more

I took the safety course a few years back, but never gotten around to apply for the license. Recently I've decided that I want to apply for the license, so I took a refresher course and get an updated certificate. The new location is really nice, it even have indoor ranges! If you sign up to be a member, you can even try all the firearm that they have! This wasn't available when I first took the class few years back when they were in Framingham MA. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and funny! He made the 4 hour class flew by! He also answered all the questions that were asked during the class; very informative. All the staff members were extremely nice and friendly as well. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is interested in taking the Safety Course or want to start looking into getting a LTC. I took the basic safety course here, as per the Mass licensing requirement. I went in expecting to just rehash everything I had already known about the various laws and regulations, but actually wound up picking a few nuggets of knowledge up. Not sure how there advance classes are, but the two teachers for the basic class were overall pretty good. They kept everyone engaged, had a sense of humor, but were able to explain what they needed to effectively. They are not a live-fire class but do have a great simulation system, comprised of an actual handgun, retrofitted with an air system. The device discharges air, replicating the feel of an actual round (somewhat poorly). This is paired with a wall-sized projector that can load various simulations and programs. One of my favorite was the dueling post, where two competitors race to hit the others targets. Overall, if you're looking to get your LTC, and need the basic class for licensing, this isn't a bad place. Check Groupon or LivingSocial for deals, as I've seen them pop up once or twice lately. read more

Alright, when I went here, I was the only girl in a room full of dudes. Alright, so that can be awkward. I tried to put on a brave face, show them that I'm not some chump. That all ended when I went up and tried to do the target practice with the non-live fire guns and happened to get one of the duds. Only, it didn't look like I had a dud. It just looked like I couldn't target shoot for beans. So, then what happens? One of the instructors comes up to "show me how its done." Only, THAT's when they figure out my gun is a dud. Don't let that little rant fool you, this is a good class. It was just embarrassing. My tip to all the ladies who either bought the yelp pass or plan to take this in general: if they ask you if you want to go into the ladies-only class, take them up on it. Even if you do get a dud gun, at least it will be around other women, and not judgy men. Ok, ok, that makes me sound like a feminist (which I can be sometimes on social issues), but that's not the case either. I just don't like looking like someone who can't hack it, that's all. Other than that, I kind of wish this course had gone over more about safety. I've shot guns a little in the past and would really have preferred a more indepth overview of the anatomy of a gun, its weaknesses, and the proper way to hold them. Even though these were dummy guns, we should have been told to hold them like they were real, rather than just being allowed to point them willy nilly. Made me glad this wasn't a live fire course. The one perk about this course is they have a lot of information on what type of license you can get depending on the town that you live in and gladly offer to help you out with filing your application so that you don't accidentally put down some piece of information that actually isn't relevant to you, but you think it does because the application questions are confusing. read more

These guys sell a $100 class which takes 4 hours that could be put onto a 3 page handout and a 30 minute video on YouTube. I guess they stretch it out with breaks and slow talking because the rules say it has to be 4 hours long? Anyway, it's not worth your time. Then you get a couple shots with a revolver and a semi-auto 22. Meh. I guess they might be the best around here, but I've done classes in other states that were way better. Oh, and they sell all your details to the NRA who put you on dozens of email lists, each one of which you have to unsubscribe individually. Bahstids. read more

I'm very pleased with what I got for my $100. The instructor for the class gets plenty of back up from other instructors so everything is efficient and there is PLENTY of 1-1 for all the participation. We even got out really early but everything was covered and if you wanted to stick around for the last 45min and really get you moneys worth, I bet they'd stick around and humor you b/c they just seemed like the type. Everyone of the staff (who I came in contact w/) was pretty hilarious in their own way and very knowledgeable. They gave out a lot of valuable legal information and tips for filling out the application. Even a guy who was all arrogant about his gun skills in the beginning was like "wow I learned quite a few cool things today," by the end. The power points have to go though. It's 2012! No one should endure death by ppt nowadays. They should def be using Prezi or something better than what they have for the presentation. The lecture is good but so much is taken away by ppt. I'll be going back for more classes ;) 4/5 because this is my only gun education and idk what a 5/5 is, to be honest. & for the record....there were 7 women and 5 men in my class ;) read more

I just moved to MA from the free state of Pennsylvania, so I was shocked to learn I had to take a class to get my carry permit. MFS has classes every day, so I figured the sooner the better. They got everyone checked in, waivers signed, and we all filed into a classroom for the four hour class. I'm an experienced shooter, and I was expecting a 4-hour snoozefest, but the instructor Clark was very informative, friendly, and actually made the class enjoyable. I enjoyed talking guns with him; it's always nice to talk shop with someone who knows what they're talking about. My biggest complaint was that the live fire shooting was with a .22, which I was incredibly disappointed in. I'm sure the cost of ammo is something a bean counter has worked out, but seriously? If you're charging me $100 for a class, fork over some 9mm. My range back home, which just got renovated, has me super spoiled. That being said, they have a decent mid-sized range: The air wasn't full of lead, the lanes are well-lit, and the range officers were quite helpful. The store's gun selection felt bare-bones, but coming from Pennsylvania, I'm sure all stores feel bare bones to me. From what I know about the approved roster, it appeared they had some of nearly every manufacturer (S&W, Ruger, SIG, H&K, Beretta, etc.) They teach a LOT of classes on a variety of topics; I suspect I will be back to take additional training in the upcoming year. If you need to take a class for your LTC, then this is a good place to do it. read more

I took the basic firearm safety class here a couple years ago. Since that time, of my 6 firearms I own, I have purchased 5 of them here. The class was knowledgeable, full of useful information both in regards to legalities of owning and carrying the firearm, but also safe practices. The indoor range, though limited is well lit, has appropriate distances for firing and feels safe. I would love to take more classes in the future when the time is right,. As for the new store - it's unbelievable. The staff is knowledgeable. Always available for a conversation, offering their insight and experience. I stop in at least once a month to browses their ever expanding inventory and chat with the guys. I've purchased from other places, and though on occasion prices may be slightly better else where, the knowledge, time from the instructors/staff, patience and over-all friendliness will keep me returning here for years for all my needs. Bottom line - if you need a class, looking to purchase a new firearm, or are a long time owner, I think MFA will have something to offer you. Make sure you check them out. This course will provide you with the information that you need to make an educated decision regarding applying for and owning a firearm. First, I am not a gun expert. I am a law abiding citizen who simply wanted to learn more about the licensing and handling of firearms. I took the Mass Pistol License to Carry Course with Richard Scales as the instructor. The course covered; (1) Legal rights & responsibilities, (2) Safety, (3) licensing process, (4) Hands-on training with revolver & semi-automatic pistol training and (5) Live fire on the indoor range with two weapons. Rich was focused as an instructor. He covered the regulations and laws completely and added brief examples of improper techniques and showed less than 30-second clips which illustrated the points clearly. The course was completed slightly ahead of schedule (roughly 3.5 hours). There was ample time for questions and and I was 100% satisfied with the course. I would highly recommend Mass Firearms. This course will give you pause regarding the purchase of a weapon in Massachusetts. read more

Nice cozy shooting range. Lost a star due to no outdoor range. I came here with some friends for intro to shooting handguns and rifles last week and it was great. Our instructor, Peter, showed us basica range safety rules to avoid injuries to self and other. He explained what to do and not to do, as well as the consequences of those actions. Then you're off to get our ear muffs and safety glasses. You know what they say in the streets, "Safety ova everythang..." So during the session we each took turns shooting 10 round with: Ruger Mark III semi-automatic handgun, Smith Model 617 revolver, Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 semi-automatic rifle, and an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle. The power increases as you step up. I prefer the handguns as it feels more practical. After class they go over how you did and what you did wrong or right. Then they go over other classes and programs they offer there. Overall it was a graet experience. I prefer the targets to be a bit further back than 15 feet. read more

I go to MF as a yearly range member. Due to illness, I only was able to use the range three times during my last membership. As a Senior the discount provided when asked for is greatly appreciated. I am able to use the range at off hours and have found the staff to be courteous, helpful, and more than willing to assist with any issues. Have been interested in getting my LTC for a while, so the first step is to take the Basic Firearms Safety course required by MA law and it just so happened that MFS ran a Groupon around the same time so it was perfect. Scheduled the class very easily online and they call you 2-3 times before the class to remind you of the class as well. The class lived up to its expectations it goes into the laws of MA,obtaining a LTC for a specific city/town, types and guns, assembling and loading a gun/shotgun, and any other question you may have. I also enjoyed the simulator at the end as this course was probably taken by all newbies so not have a real firearm is probably smart. Instructor Alex was great as well as his aide Dave. Recently took the Firearms Basic Safety class at MFS. It was me, my sister, and another sister pair. Going into it, I thought it was going to overwhelming with a lot of information to take in in 4 hours. I was wrong! Our instructor was Alex and he was great. He kept the class entertained with corny jokes and funny videos all relating to firearm safety. This was way better than staring at a Power point presentation for 4 hours. The class is very interactive. You get to practice shooting in simulation form. So its kind of like playing a video game. You feel a little kickback when you are shooting the weapons also. You go over a lot in regards on how to properly hold your weapons as well as proper way to unload and load weapons. You get 2 small breaks in between, so its not too much to take it. You can ask as many questions as you like whether its about the firearms themselves or questions about the application for LTC. Alex was extremely knowledgeable. The class size was good, there was about 16 people in the course all ranging in age and gender. Overall, this is a great class to take if you want to get your LTC or just to learn about it. If you have a friend who is paying to take the class, you can tag along as their guest free of charge! MFS also offers a lot more other classes you can take to further your education in firearms and get licenses .I highly recommend contacting them in you are interested. read more

Fun Fun for every GUN!!!...except ARs (.223/5.56) Going on our 2nd year coming to MFS!!! Great place to start shooting if you are beginner or need training OR Experienced!! They have a Great store with lots of inventory! They always have plenty of staff on to help you with any questions you have or to check you into the range! The guys are all nice for the most part...except for maybe one or two that don't seem pleased to see you! Range is pretty large but not super long. There is a smaller range for classes and then the larger Range for practice. They have a good variety of rental guns and rifles. ARs (.223/5.56) are not allowed. They have cameras to keep an eye on everyone at the range but not close control. This can be a little sketchy since some people goof off and don't know what they are doing, and if no one is looking at the camera, someone could get hurt. Other ranges I have been to have someone in there at all times keeping an eye out and helping novice shooters to remember safety if they make a mistake or have a question. They offer Eye and Ear protection or you can bring your own, they offer targets as well. Their target system is slower and less advanced but still good! The targets go forward and back but do not flip which is fine with me! Place is always Clean...They offer GREAT classes for a decent price! Come here if you want to have a blast!!! read more

I recently purchased a firearm from these folks. The process was as smooth as it can be, given this is Massachusetts and buying a gun is like getting a mortgage in this state. The prices are very fair and the stock is sufficient that I was able to do the entire transaction over the phone and in one trip out to Holliston for pick-up (not convenient at all for me). Gun accessories are very pricey, but are available on Amazon for better prices. For actual firearm purchases though, I would recommend MFS as they have very knowledgeable staff and as long as it isn't too busy (which is very often is), they provide the time you need to complete the transaction. read more

I've been a member since November 2014, and during that time have taken the Mass Firearms Safety class to get my LTC, Concealed Carry I, Concealed Carry II, and Armed Defense in the Home. I'm already signed up for Concealed Carry III, and looking forward to it. Mac is a great instructor, making his classes both informative and fun. The guys that work here in the store and at the range are easy to deal with and friendly, which can't be said for all ranges or local gun shops. They do a great job running things. Just stay away from the range on Saturday mornings... it's been crazy busy lately with long wait lists. read more

I've taken four firearms courses at Mass Firearms and I think both the establishment and the staff are great. They have five large classrooms, a store, and at least two ranges (they may have more, that's all I've seen so far). The instructors were all very knowledgeable and very entertaining, they kept the class engaged the whole time. All the instructors I've met so far are all former military and two of them are active law enforcement officers. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Took the Concealed Carry I and was surprised how much useful information was introduced in the class. A must for anyone that plans on concealed carry or even those that currently do. Took the Utah non-resident with Tom Nadolny earlier this year. Great instructor. He knew our state laws as well as all other state and Federal laws to the utmost. I would recommend him for any courses that he may teach at this school. He gave us insight into traveling out of state with a firearm as well as other useful tips. The fingerprint, photo, and live fire instructors were good as well. Since then I received my Utah, Florida, and Pennsylvania permits. Unfortunately as we all know, none of which were as hard to get as our own Massachusetts permit, sad to say. This state has NO reciprocity with other states as well! What a difference in gun laws and attitudes when one travels to other states out of the Northeast, with the exception of New York and New Jersey. We need a Federal reciprocity law bad.
