    Sophie , the client dog

Pleasant environment . Very helpful front desk and tech people. Clearly explained process from the moment I walked in. Taken in a very timely manner. Very communicative Dr. and phone call follow up after procedure taking time to explain and answer all questions. I've had to use this emergency twice for two different dogs today and three years ago. Nothing has changed, same small personal help in a tough time. The availability to get help when needed was easy ! Couldn't get into any emergency places twice NEAR MY HOME and this place is a GEM

    Chloe is better days

I called about my dog, said come right down, was in the triage room within 10 minutes. Unfortunately my dog was in bad shape, the Dr reviewed several options. It was decided to give her one more night to see if she improved. This gave me 1 more night to spoil my dog and give her a proper goodbye. The staff was very empathetic to my situation.

From the moment we called ahead to say we were on our way, the staff were incredibly responsive and ready for us when we arrived. They quickly assessed the situation, diagnosed the issue, and carried out the necessary procedures. The clinic itself was very clean, welcoming, and well equipped. Dr. Estes explained everything clearly--what was happening, the prognosis, and what we should do next. The techs / nurses--Kim Nguyen, Kendra Baker, and Jennifer Ducharme--were also wonderful: professional, patient, and very caring. They were attentive throughout the entire process while our Pomeranian was undergoing sedation, and you could tell they genuinely cared. I'm sure they see situations like this every day, but they still treated our dog with the attention and care he needed. Small things like that matter. These are clearly very capable people who could work in many different fields--including human medicine--but they choose to care for pets, and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this clinic and would return again if needed. My one tip: call ahead so they can prepare for your arrival.

Although I told her I was fine, she made sure I had a comfortable place to sit and be with my dog, and got me blankets and a pillow that she told me to keep with me). The doctors were always extremely honest and transparent about outcome possibilities. They diagnosed my dog very quickly, and never outwardly broke a sweat or seemed nervous while stabilizing him. I was most impressed by the "transport service" that they provided to the ICU at the nearby major animal hospital which had more diagnostic equipment and had specialized surgeons should he end up needing that care - they arranged everything, were in communication with that hospital to make sure the medical handoff went smoothly, and then transported my dog in a van with vet techs to ensure he would remain stable. The vet techs who helped with transport insisted I keep the pillow and blankets which came in handy as I spent the night in the ICU, and were all incredibly sympathetic. Unfortunately my pup didn't make it but it was through absolutely no fault of VEG, and it is to their credit that he held on long enough to get to the ICU where we were able to discover exactly what was wrong with him and then help him pass a little more easily than he would have otherwise. My heartfelt thanks to whoever worked on Julius at the time (June 5), and especially his main vet tech. I wish I could remember her name, but she was such a comforting presence to have by my side on a night where I was given some awful news about my furry family member.

Every single worker I personally encountered as well as the workers helping other patients were all super kind, empathetic and patient. They gave me 3 options but never made me feel like the choice I made was wrong. I dont feel like they were pushy and were extremely honest about the need to administer another test if the one I decided wasn't conclusive. They could've milked almost $1200 out of me at that point and they didn't. I appreciate all the doctors and stuff. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital.

I recently left a review from our experience @OceanStateVeterinarySpecialists botching our dog's…read moresurgery and them submitting a collection account to my wife's credit report 2 years later, which at the original time of their 2nd surgery they said they would not be charging us for and therefore we never received any bills, as such we thought this matter was resolved. This is in response to "Business Manager Abby K's" response to my review on 5/20/26. Facts: We were trying to not name specific names in my initial review on 5/20/26 to protect the honest employees and give confidentiality. 1. Dr, Sweet said an infection could not have occurred so quickly during their care. Basically impossible as it takes more time for an infection to develop. Dr. Sweet was extremely kind and truthful. We appreciate his transparency to this day. 2. Dr. Sweet did not do the original surgery, but did the incision revision (2nd surgery) and said the reason the initial surgery/incision opened up was because instead of doing internal and external stitches from the initial surgery they only did internal stitches and external glue, which he said was not the proper method as the glue couldn't hold the incision closed because the incision was too big. 3. Ocean State Veterinary Specialists would never provide us with of any documentation of lab results showing any infection that supposedly occurred under their care, but they stated he had a very generic infection, which we believe was attempt to cover their mistake, as Dr. Sweet stated an infection couldn't have developed so quickly. 4. We've consulted with other experienced Vets since this matter, with all relevant information/photos/etc provided to them and they all confirm that our dog was mishandled. We very much appreciate Dr, Sweet for fixing our dog and his transparency. He's a very honest and qualified surgeon. Unfortunately the hospital Dr Sweet works for is not. While we promptly paid the collection account in full as soon as it was posted, we will be seeking most importantly changes and also damages through legal channels regarding this matter. We are not looking for any monetary reward besides our lost time and expenses, but rather aiming for this institution to improve itself, not blame the public, admit when they've made a mistake and not defraud the public at the same time. It will cost us more unnecessary expense to see this through, but with most of our experience on camera in their own hospital with this event and just the moral aspect of doing the right thing for pets we will incur this expense on behalf of others that perhaps cannot afford it and more importantly, all our pets. Please go somewhere else in the meantime for the safely of your pet and research past court cases against this company. If you feel this response is in unfounded, I welcome direct contact for any questions.

My review is for hosp policies that leave the consumer, who is already traumatized because their beloved child had to go to the ONLY ER in the area, hostages of their practices, "back handed compliment" of a consumers bill of rights: This is from the "American Association of Veterinary State Boards": "- Informed Consent & Treatment Options: You have the right to know your pet's diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment alternatives, along with the risks and benefits of each. You may accept, decline, or seek second opinions on any recommended care. - Transparent Pricing & Estimates: You have the right to receive an accurate written estimate for care, to know the costs of veterinary services... - Access to Medical Records: You have the right to copies or summaries of your pet's medical records upon request. - Prescription Freedom: Veterinarians must provide you with a written prescription upon request, allowing you to purchase pet medications from a pharmacy of your choice rather than directly from the clinic. - Professional Qualifications: You have the right to expect your veterinarian and technicians to meet the legal education and experience qualifications...". YES the absolutely tell you the cost of EVERYTHING. Actually its close to $300 just to walk through the door. Got it. Cost of medical care for your pet + cover the initial triage. Cool. Triage is necessary to understand the course of action. Access to medical records - WE PAID for them, but thank you AAVSB. I'm old... and old enough to know this isn't the 1950s-80s where docs went unquestioned... Carrying on. Informed conscent blah blah. THIS is where the wheels fell off the bus. This is NOT my first rodeo. I have my share of Vet care and Vet ER care. In my experience, younger vets have a lot of student debt, and they were taught to try everything on the menu, AND they drink corporate pushy kool-aid to sell services like water bottles in a desert concert. Step 1 for this visit = BLOODWORK. AND PLEASE INFORM ME OF AN APPROXIMATE time for the results to be back based on the traffic flow for the night. I don't need to be sold on 50 other things. When you have been to Tufts in Grafton for urgent vet care - the bar is high. Sorry guys, but I hold you to that standard... So after hearing the CYA laundry list of all the things I KNEW were irrelevant until bloodwork came back, I was passing out. NO. Do the bloodwork, tell me how long to wait for that, and keep me POSTED. Keep us all posted. Since the hospital is going through much needed renovations, figure out a better comms flow! Their CYA poster in the waiting room? Send it for rewording, and POST the consumer bill of rights. Condescending, pretty much reminding us low lives, that this is urgent care and triage is necessary so that they can take care of the most urgent cases first, thus you will be waiting while your pet is in a cage somewhere you can't see them. I don't think anyone objects to having the more urgent/critical/dying patients be seen and tended to first. YES, it's urgent care. YES- you should take care of the life threatening cases. NO, you don't have a RIGHT to hold people hostage without better comms, NO, you shouldn't keep a pet hostage because you're afraid of walk away without paying. FIGURE out a better process that works not only for you and the consumer. If you are going to TELL us how to behave, also tell us what to expect from YOU. I'm going to assume that there will be more space and rooms in the reno for you to stay with your pet through process where it makes sense - for our sanity and pet's comfort. If you are worried about people who will just get up an leave, FIGURE IT OUT Mr and MRS BOARD of directors, top of the heap manager... This reflects on YOU, not the people who cared on Lulu. I'm sure they treated her like the princess she and all the others are. Their hands are tied because your ops leave a lot to the imagination. Of course you want your bigger chunk of the $$. We get that. Thanks for treating our time like it doesn't matter and over extending your staff. Because when I get a call close to midnight because the doc over prescribed the med, you KNOW she was overwhelmed. (THANK GOD SHE CAUGHT IT) This is what to expect folks. Don't blame the staff. Expect them to be sweet, tired, love animals, know their job, underpaid but show up to care for your baby. Whatever operational hiccups comes from incompetent leadership that can't figure out a better way because they take advantage of being the only gig closer, is not their fault. Thank them. They do try their best. Leadership? TO BE SEEN. Would I go back? Because of the loving staff? yes. The ops? Worth a 2 hour drive to Grafton...

They gave her completely false hope, leading her to believe that with their expensive radiation treatments, her cat--who was her absolute world--would recover and live a good life. My daughter is a low-income house cleaner, a fact they were well aware of, yet they willingly took the vast majority of her hard-earned savings. Because we live in Pittsfield, on the western border of Massachusetts, she had to make multiple grueling, two-plus-hour trips to the Boston area, paying out-of-pocket for motels for days at a time just so Melfyn could receive care. It feels like an absolute scam. Less than a single month after completing these exhausting and expensive treatments, Melfyn passed away. They drained her bank account and put her through immense stress, only to leave her completely heartbroken and devastated. This hospital showed a total lack of empathy and realistic guidance. I would highly warn anyone, especially those making sacrifices to afford care, to be incredibly wary of the false promises made here.

My last visit would sadly be my last as my family made the difficult and painful decision to put him down. Its taken me a little over a week to write something but I know I wanted to tell everyone about this location. They even managed to entertain him with some classical music when he was a little yappy! He lived a long, happy spoiled life. I miss him everyday. My first pet out of high school, we were almost never apart. I think that knowing he was in the best possible hands near the end helped take some of my guilt grief away. Every single person was amazing and I just know that profession cannot be easy. God, my sister and I cried for hours and we were never rushed. Dr.Silverstone, thank you for always being straight with us but also extremely professional and kind. They contract out to help with end of life arrangements and cremation, if you choose. 'epaws' or something. The arrangements were done quickly but not so quickly that you worry about disrespect, you know? A week later and I have his urn and we've set up a memorial in the house for him. No one wants to think about these things but pricing is transparent and gotten out of the way quickly. And yes, it's pricy but what isn't? This is emergency care. Get pet insurance!!!! Honestly, I would have gone bankrupt if it helped but there is unfortunately a limit to things that can be treated and the doctor said it best: "age is not a disease". So hopefully your fur babies live long, happy lives and that you only have to go for minor inconveniences but if you do have an emergency, this location was clean, professional and fairly easy to get to.
