I made an appointment for a 90 minute massage. I was warmly greated and after completing some quick paperwork (actually digital now), I was taken back to meet my therapist. I truly believed this membership would be a great investment in my well-being--until it became the opposite. Life got busy, and I wasn't able to schedule massages as often, which led me to accumulate 8 unused sessions that I had already paid for month after month. When I chose to cancel, I was stunned to learn I had only 60 days to use them, or they would simply vanish. This is not only unreasonable but feels like a calculated policy designed to profit from customers' busy schedules rather than honor the services already paid for. If I had purchased a gift card, it would never expire--so why should prepaid massages be treated differently? Now, $520 of my hard-earned money has disappeared, and that is beyond frustrating. Policies like this erode trust and loyalty instead of building it. Had I been able to use those massages, therapists would have benefited from gratuities, and I might have continued as a customer or purchased additional services or gift cards. Instead, Massage Envy chose short-term gain over long-term relationships. I was always a respectful guest, consistently leaving $20 tips and supporting the staff with kindness. But this experience has left me with a sour taste that no amount of relaxation could fix. I will never return to Massage Envy and will actively discourage friends, family, and colleagues from supporting a company that treats loyal customers this way. Be very careful There are very good therapists and skin technicians however management and administration is horrible I was gifted a lot of massage sessions from another branch and when they came in I specifically asked whether these have an end or expiry date and I was assured they did not now I've been told that they just expired and i have to talk to the originating franchise to resolve it. I have had more than I can remember massages, at all price points, and I can honestly say I had the best massage by Kara at Hunter's Creek Massage Envy! I had asked for deep, and was pleasantly surprised how amazing her pressor was through the entire experience. This was the first time I wasn't longing for deeper pressure. (I am not a vocal person) Throughout the full massage I could feel tension releasing and she really focused on troubled areas but not to the point that I felt other ares were missing out. Massage was fine however the customer service and response to a billing issue was unacceptable. For Father's Day, my wife gave me two Massage Envy gift cards good for two massages. I used the first a couple weeks ago without issue. Last week I made a reservation for my second massage and after the service, I tried checking out however their computer system wasn't acknowledging any gift card balance. After contacting the ME location where the gift cards were purchased they confirmed that the card did have a balance for one session, however it was good only for a first-time session (only $45). They told me at this time that since I got a massage a couple weeks prior, I didn't qualify for this rate and that I would have to pay out of pocket another $45. I said that I got these as a gift and that I shouldn't be coming out of pocket aside from the $20 tip that I wanted to give the masseuse. The manager said she'd look into it. I then gave the manager my credit card info but NOT to charge me until she had a chance to call me and explain the resolution. Fast forward to today (5 days later) and I never got a call. I called ME in the morning and left a message. After growing impatient, I checked my credit card statement and I was charged $65 ($45 for the balance of the massage + $20 gratuity). Later on in the evening, I believe a different manager called me and I again explained the situation. I stressed that if I had known that I wasn't able to use the gift card without coming out of pocket, I would have given it to someone else. She apologized for somebody not calling me back and she would check with ME customer service to see if there's anything they can do. She called me back after checking with their customer service. She apologized however she said there's nothing they can do. This entire experience after the massage was disappointing to say the least. Booked 90 min w Rocky for a much needed massage after days of traveling for work. This location is nicer & roomier than my primary location back home. Customer service here too was excellent- from the young woman I talked to when I first called from California to book massages & transfer a credit to my colleague, to all the women at reception today, competent and upbeat. My massage therapist left unexpectedly. Her recommended backup also then left unexpectedly. The backup sadly didn't leave any recommended therapists, so now I'm back at square one... On top of this, I've personally had many issues with management here. I received a lovely membership from my parents for Christmas a couple years ago. Since it was purchased in Virginia but the studio is in Florida, I have run into a problem literally every time I come here. From having to supply my credit card information (when it is covered by the membership) to having to fill out new membership paperwork (yes, down to my contact information and everything), there's always an issue. When I spoke to the manager, she blamed my mom for purchasing my membership in VA. Uhm, I don't think so! I then asked the manager to call the VA location where it was purchased, to avoid me/my mom being put in the middle. The manager said that every location is a different franchise and the two locations didn't have the same systems so they couldn't investigate this further. So, the problems continued... Getting a massage should be relaxing and stress-free. But every time I'm here, I'm so stressed out. The girls at the front are rude and not helpful, and the therapists leave without notice. Normally, if you want to transfer credits to another member, you pay $10, and in all the other branches I've been to, it's never been a problem. Meanwhile, in this location, they set a cap of 1 per month, and no more than 1 per six months for the same member. This is crap. They're my credits, and I am paying to transfer them to Another Member. I tried calling, and so did the person at the branch I moved to, and they don't even answer the phone. It's not the first issue I've had with this branch, and I wish I had never signed up through them. I hope I can just finish with the sessions from here so I can be done with this location forever. The most accommodating staff I have ever encountered. I'm here on vacation and was not going to be able to make my appointment due to unforeseen circumstances getting there. I'm a Cincinnati member, but my parents own a home in Orlando that I visit about twice a year. I've been to this Massage Envy a few times and have really enjoyed all of my visits. This past May, I had a massage from Carl that was amazing. I was especially impressed because they opened pretty quickly after the coronavirus restrictions were lifted, which was so nice for those of us that try to get regular massages and haven't been able to for 3 months. First time coming to this location and I absolutely loved it! As soon as you walk in you're greeted with friendly staff and smiling faces. Check in is smooth and easy. Everything is done on an iPad. Once I checked I was taken to the back waiting room area that was dimly lit with nice soothing music. Not even 5 minutes later my masseuse Beatriz greeted me and walked me to the room for my massage. After verifying my focus areas we got started and man I must say the massage was AMAZING from start to finish. Beatriz's hands are heaven sent! I scheduled a couples massage for my girlfriend and I's anniversary at this location. The original booker seemed very friendly and quite helpful on the phone. Check in was also very smooth and easy at the appointment. However, right before our appointment I was informed that we would be in separate rooms and start at different times. That is not what most people's idea of a couples massage is... I'm then informed that only members can get a couples massage. This was not communicated on the phone otherwise I would have scheduled at Massage Heights instead since I've traditionally used them. The manager on duty flat out refused to do anything about it until one of the massage therapists spoke up and asked her to make an exception for us. They relented and honored the original expectation that was set, but not after speaking down to me like this was my fault. Then I find out the couples massage room wasn't even booked in the first place, so why was this even a fight to begin with? I couldn't truly enjoy my massage because of how frustrated I was with the customer service, which is too bad because Natasha gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. Afterwards a different manager of some sort told me off at checkout and insisted that I was informed of their policy on the phone, even though that simply isn't true otherwise we would've went somewhere different. This is the second time I have been here and its terrible. The first time, my therapist falls asleep multiple times during the massage. I let the gals at the front know, they say sorry and have a good day. Ummm.....I ask to have the manager call me, she never does. Finally I call her and she makes excuses like, well, its really dark and soothing in there for everyone. 2 years later (i live in Phoenix, here visiting my mom) we *attempt to return. My mom makes appointments 2 weeks in advance with specific therapists who are great because she says many are not good. We arrive this morning and the gals at the front say, Oh I'm so sorry, looks like your massages were booked in March on accident. Sorry, you guys have a good day, bye bye. She repeatedly tells us that its not her fault because she did not book the massages. Here's where you go wrong and what can be done to remedy a mistake: 1. When you screw up, acknowledge it and apologize. Be sincere. Don't blame it on someone else. 2. Offer alternate solutions: Can I rebook you? We could squeeze you in here. 3. Gauge how angry the person is and offer to have your manager call them immediately and see what we can do. It's really not hard. They seem to figure this out just fine at my local Massage Envys. Massage Envy is such a smart business. I pay $40 or something like that once a month and I get an hour massage. I am able to bank massages and pay only $18 for another 30 minutes if I want a 90 minute massage. The staff here are excellent and I never wait too long until my therapist shows up. I have an absolute favorite at the Turkey Lake location, but I'm not sharing her name because then all you Yelpers will steal her from me and I'll never be able to get an appointment with her! My one tip for any Massage Therapy client (or soon-to-be client) is to get picky about who your therapist is. Get a recommendation from the receptionist. If you haven't been to a particular location, ask the receptionist who is popular and who gets the most appointments. Also, do not be afraid to tell the therapist that you WANT certain things, such as your feet, face, hands, chest, and butt done. I've found that *some* male therapists are too scared to touch certain areas (I don't blame them) but if you let them know up front you want it, they'll probably be more likely to do it. And if they don't - find someone who *will* do what you want them to do. read more

I am fairly new to Massage Envy (this is my second massage with the company) but not to massages, and can easily say that I not only received one of the best massages I have ever been given but was treated with the utmost professionalism and kindness by all staff. I went in on a whim since it was next to a wax center I was going to, and am so glad I did! Emily, one of the managers, was kind enough to fit me into the one available slot that would work with my schedule that day, and on incredibly short notice (I was basically a walk-in). Since this was my first time at this location and I was coming in from out of town she had to look me up in the computer several different ways. I had to leave before that was solved as I had a waxing appointment next door, but she offered to block off the time anyway and had found my information by the time I made it back. Frankly, I was concerned because I had that waxing appointment next door and wasn't sure if I would make it back in time. However, as soon as I walked back in the door Emily gave me the good news that she found my in the system and that I was all set for the massage, and then promptly introduced me to George, my masseuse. George asked me a series of questions, including the problem areas I would like worked on and proved truly knowledgeable. He not only listened but he asked questions during the massage to gauge whether the pressure was too great and like. He tried several different techniques, which he explained, and had some great advice about some practical, fairly simple daily self-care techniques that could help me between massages. Frankly, this is one of the best massages--top two--I have ever received. I walked out of that massage feeling calmer than I had in months. Typically you get one introductory massage (1hr) for $39. After this you can sign up for a one year membership for $49/month giving you (1) one hour massage each month. You can purchase additional for $39(1hr). You can use your massages at any Massage Envy location across the country and if you don't use one they do roll over (As long as your account is active). Massage Envy in general gets a rap for being a cheap massage since it's a chain. Truth is, the quality of the massage is much more about the therapist then the actual establishment. Provided the facility is clean and the other staff are friendly and helpful (which in this case, they are) then it's all about the individual giving you the massage. Not every therapist that Massage Envy has is great but I would venture to guess that every spa has some therapists that are better than others. This means it is very important to find a good therapist, and one that fits your needs. Ask for referrals from friends, the receptionists, online...whatever it takes. Try a few out if you have to in order to find the right one. My therapist, name withheld so she stays all mine, is amazing. I have only been seeing her for a few months but have already developed a solid relationship so that she knows what I like/need. She is barely 5 feet tall and gets the job done with significant power which is noteworthy considering I'm 6'7" and could stand to loose a few lbs. MASSAGE ENVY, IF YOU"RE READING: To be a perfect 5, your staff could be slightly more courteous. They are not rude by any means but I agree with another review that said they could escort you to the tranquility room rather than just ask you to go wait there. Also, get rid of all of those tipping guideline signs that are plastered everywhere, mentioning that tips are customary is one thing but they are too much in your face. INSIDER TIPS: 1. Take It Off: This place is 100% professional and your licensed massage therapist (not the non-licensed ones; think "happy ending") will be able to give you a better massage if you are nude. They will keep the necessary parts covered at all times with blankets/sheets. 2. Speak Up: Tell your therapist what to focus on and if the massage is too hard or not hard enough. You should also dictate the amount of talking during the massage, it's up to you if you want to be a little chatty, keep it quiet, or even maybe fall asleep. 3. Be Respectful: Shower before the massage...especially if you were just working out. Ditch your phone and anything else you won't need, focus on your massage and relaxing. You risk a less than laborious massage if you don't take the experience seriously. 4. Don't Worry: They have seen it all.....yes even the weird mole you have on your back and the evidence that you enjoy an extra scoop of ice cream from time to time. Even if you pass gas, "get excited", or drool (drool is the only one of the three I will admit to doing) don't worry they are trained to handle it all. 5. Fork It Over: Tip your therapist if you had good session but don't go crazy. Ignore the tipping guideline signs they have, $15-$20 is enough for an hour massage. read more

This was probably my least favorite massage envy that I have been to. I got disconnect on the phone with them twice while they were trying to find my information so I could book a massage. I've been a member for longer than I care to share. (I want to cancel but I need to use up my massages first.) No other location has a problem finding me. My name is not hard to listen to, spell, or say. And for some reason she had to keep asking for it over and over again and was calling me by other names. I got there early in case I needed to fill out paperwork (I did not) and I still ended up waiting longer than my appointment time. My therapist looked less than thrilled to be there and I could feel it as he was massaging me. I was less than relaxed during my session because I just felt negative vibes coming off of him. And then my two hour session was over and when he left I got up and looked at the clock and I still had 15 minutes left. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to get out of there and I understand they need a couple minutes to reset the room but not 15! Needless to say I will not be back at this location. Where do I begin? I've been a member here since the beginning of it's opening. I have seen ups and downs, turnover after turnover (ESPECIALLY with the front desk staff), I've heard irate customers being poorly handled, and I've also experienced some of the best massages with some of the best therapists around. That being said... #1. The front desk staff need some serious revamping/training. It's a revolving door up there. They are often aloof and never provide customer service beyond the minimum requirements of what their paychecks display. I have often heard them loudly having conversations in the front that can be heard in the "tranquility room", I have been victim of screwed up scheduling NUMEROUS times that were always followed up with blame on my part. They don't wear name tags and quickly skim over their names over the phone, probably because they don't want you to know who's about to not care about your needs. The assistance up front has been seriously lacking and extremely frustrating/disappointing. #2. The clinic needs some SERIOUS updating and upkeep. From peeling paint on the walls, to faulty bathroom door handles (I'm sure there have been many surprises on people due to this), dirty bathroom walls, dusty walls, vents, carpets throughout the areas I've been exposed to. After being a member for so long and having spent so much time in this clinic, you start to see the general disrepair and lack of care/respect for the place. Sometimes my massage room is sparkling, sometimes there is much to be desired. #3. I was appalled to find out that not only did the monthly rates go up 0.99 cents per month (no big deal as I was mailed a flyer), however, said flyer DID NOT mention that the additional 1/2 hour upgrade on a 90 minute ALSO went up an additional $2.00! This typically would not have been an issue if I was informed ahead of time instead of at checkout as a surprise. This is a huge oversight on the company and VERY unprofessional. #4. I get tired of being asked if I want to "split" my prepaid to cover the additional 1/2 hour on my 90 minute session. BEFORE the $2.00 increase the 1/2 hour additionally only cost me $18. I have been "grandfathered" into the original $49 a month contract, so for even numbers I'll round up to $50. If I split my $50 one hour pre-paid session in half, that's a $25 value. Why would I waste that on an $18 upgrade? Which of course they've never bothered to explain. #5. It's not all bad. I have been fortunate enough to have some of the best therapists that clinic has to offer. Grant it they have LOST quite a few exceptional ones, but there are still a few there that I enjoy and the clinic is VERY lucky to have them. I can only hope they're being treated well, but through my many observations, most of them look like zombies on auto-pilot walking around the clinic. Thankfully my therapists (especially my favorite who shall remain nameless because I don't like to share ;-) ) has always been very kind, professional, and in a good mood...no matter what. In summary, This clinic has great massage talent. Customer service is something to be desired and the few times I've had interaction with management/owner has typically been a disappointing venture with so much potential for growth. I love the convenience of this location and, as said, the talent I have found. If it weren't for these, I would definitely try out a different location. But I am too loyal to my therapist and I need her more than anything so I have been foregoing the nuances of the rest of the business. Massage Envy Dr. Phillips, you have GREAT potential as I saw in the beginning of your opening. I hope you find the means to be everything you can be. But for $90 I thought it was a bit much I received a gift card for this and the staff was not very pleasant I've been to many Massage Envy's in the past and while I said the massage was good the actual staff not very impressive. I have been to locations in California to Florida Miami Palm Coast Jacksonville Jacksonville Beach and the front desk staff was probably the least impressive with explaining the costs and their attitude. This is a great place to get a massage if you don't have much money to spend. On that note, if you're looking for a relaxing experience this is probably the worst option available. The customer service leaves so much to be desired. The last time I went here I paid for a 60 minute massage and was literally on the massage table for 32 minutes. After spending the next hour complaining to the manager, I was given the option to pay an extra $20 and have a 90 minute massage gift card. I decided to take it, partially because I was so sick of their circular arguments. A few months later I make my appointment for the 90 minute massage. On my way to the store, there was an accident on Sandlake (the street directly in front of the location) and my car is literally in park for 40 minutes with the store in eye sight. I called the let them know that if they looked out their window they would see the accident and probably even me. Karina, someone I assume to be the manager on duty informed me that it was simply too bad for me and that every minute I was late would cut into my massage. I got there 15 minutes late and as promised my massage was cut down by 15 minutes. When I went to pay, they told me that my gift card from my last visit had NO MONEY ON IT! The massage was $114!! Another user commented on how this place is the Walmart of massages and that could not be more true. If you want a cheap massage and no customer service this place will fit the bill. The only redeeming part about this entire shit hole, was the massage therapist herself, Elizabeth. She was very kind and attentive. First, the price is right. It just is*. Plus now that they allow members to accumulate and use half pre-paid visits to make one fabulously luxurious 90-minute massage it feels much less like a mass market place. Second, it is a mass market kind of place. You'll not hear any new music or see any new art here. It's cookie cutter but they have some good therapists. Third, they have some good therapists; however, judging by turnover (why does it seem only MY favorite therapist "no longer works here"?) the management does about as good a job with them as it does with the customer service. Fourth, customer service pretty much sucks. Though I am always greeted when I walk in that's about where it ends. Also, why are there always 4-6 people behind that counter? What could they possibly be doing? Fire one or two of them and maybe hire a handyman. Fifth, they need to hire a handyman. Worrying if the rickety latch lock will hold on the bathroom door does not relax me for my massage! A few other things also need fixing but all in all it's OK. Find a therapist you like and you'll enjoy this indulgence. When I called to make an appointment, the girl who answered the phone was very confusing and eventually gave the phone to someone who actually knew how to make an appointment. I was worried that the would be as disorganized when I actually went there for my massage. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived and checked in. The check-in process was rather quick and I was promptly taken back to meet with the massage therapist who would be giving my massage. Rene was excellent! Not only did he listen to my concerns, he gave advice on things to try outside of massage to lessen my chronic back pain. I always love Massage Envy. The great thing about a franchise/chain/brand is the consistency. You know you are going to get the same products, same offers, and similar amenities. You will always know what to expect at a Massage Envy whether it's in WA, FL or VA. This location in particular is in a shopping plaza right near Universal Studios. I have been a member here for YEARS. Since this location first opened. The massage therapists here are fantastic. I have a few that I see that I really like, and every once in awhile I try a new therapist to mix it up. No problem there. The problem is: this place has the worst customer service. Because of that, like another readers comment, it is the Walmart of massage locations. I work in Customer Service, so it's really important to me. As long as you get your monthly massage and don't need anything from them, you are fine. Let's hope you don't need anything above and beyond that. In the past I had referred friends to Massage Envy, I would receive a free massage if my name was given. My friend in LA was so impressed when she came to visit me here, that she went back to LA and signed up. I have not been able to get a straight answer about this from the staff. I was told that I would get a massage, but it would have to be at home location (um- this one is my home location) then I was told that the LA Massage Envy that my friend went to could send a gift card to this Massage Envy so I could get my massage. Well, they couldn't seem to make that happen after all and in the end I was told that I would just have to physically go to that Massage Envy in LA to receive my free massage. So- clearly, I am not going to recommend them to my friends anymore, what's the point? Then- I decided to freeze my membership for six months to save some money and take a break during the holidays. I received a gift card as a present and I wanted to unfreeze my membership so that I could get my massage. Well, I might as well forget about it. I was told that I would have to get the massage at the non-member rate. Why would I want to do that? I tried to unfreeze my membership, by first calling, and then I went in to do this. The receptionist would not unfreeze my membership, telling me that a manager had to do it and for me to "come back later." I did come back later, beaten down by their process, and fully prepared to pay the non-member rate, and then just cancel my membership. The front desk managed to straighten it out for me, unfreeze my membership, and then after 30 days (and being charged one more massage) my membership would be cancelled. Done! read more

Horrible customer service. Neglected to tell me I had to pay for a full session after they held up my appointment for 30 min. First time and last!!!! Will never attempt to make an appointment with this company. Very rude and incompetent staff... It shouldn't be that hard to inform and please their customers. The massage was okay, but the people up front are straight up salespersons. They bore you to death and push the membership hard. To further this, if you're pregnant you're forced to schedule a crappy prenatal massage - do some research massage envy, "no definitive benefits for prenatal massage have been established through research..." so our couple's massage had to be cancelled. Normal massages are recommended for pregnant women so that's pretty crappy especially with the limited schedules of the 'prenatal therapists'. I hope you don't like deep tissue, because these people massage like wimps. Out of the five or six masseuses, only one could do a decent deep tissue massage. Don't bother trying to book a late massage, according to this location 9 pm massages are reserved for members only. What a joke, even if its not booked at 8:59 they wont book you. This was my first massage. My girlfriend took me here as a treat. The staff at the desk took a while to even acknowledge us even though there were several people working. They also had someone brand new go through our paperwork and you could tell she had no clue what she was doing yet. After that, we went to a relaxation room. I thought we'd be there for a few minutes. We were there until the room was completely full. Nothing relaxing about that. The room is too small for that. We were then taken to our massage room together. My girlfriend had a better experience than I did. My masseuse was far from quiet or relaxing. He was constantly wheeling around me on the stool and breathing very heavy. I really couldn't relax and enjoy it. By the time I left, I didn't feel like I had a good experience for my first time. read more

If you're looking for a moment to relax and are not looking to spend the amount of money it would cost to visit a day spa I would recommend coming to Massage Envy even if you're not a member. While I can understand a membership isn't for everyone and can be annoying when sessions get backed up, you can always combine them to burn through them quicker. I've found that a 90 minute massage is way better than a 60 minute session anyways. Opt to try a hot stone massage, which are always great and you can do that by combining 2 sessions. This location recently completed a renovation; smells like new as soon as you walk in. Highly recommend this particular locale. read more
