If you're looking for a good place for a facial, this is not the place. I guess the name says it all -- nothing about facials!! A couple of years ago I went in for a facial and should've learned from it. The esthetician showed up almost 30 minutes late for whatever reason and rushed through the facial - didn't ask questions or check on my skin and was done in 20 minutes. Guess she had to make sure all her other appointments stayed on item. Fast forward to Friday, October 20, 2017. I thought I'd give it another try and scheduled a microdermabrasion - which would take up 2 of my massage credits - no problem, since they advertised for it well. Anyhow, I showed up for my facial 10 minutes early and sat in the quiet room while I waited to be called for my facial. At 5:00 pm the receptionist came back and said that that esthetician was running 10 minutes because of a car battery. I said, no problem and waited. Almost 20 minutes later, my esthetician arrived and said hi and walked me back to the room and apologized for being late and told me that the "facial would only take 20 minutes anyway". I then started to have flashbacks of the last appointment. I told her that I wasn't in a hurry hoping that she would get the hint and not rush. Well that didn't matter, the facial lasted 15 minutes - 20 minutes if you count the time it took her to setup while I was laying on the table. Only question she asked was what I wanted for my infusion - anti-aging, clarifying, or brightening (vitamin c). I told her my skin needed some clarifying. Facial wasn't worth it and customer service was poor! Like I said, should've learned my lesson from the first facial, but was desperate to use my credits just in case I decided not to renew my contract. Well guess what, the experience answered my dilemma. Massages aren't bad, but getting someone to do deep tissue was inconsistent. All is clear --- will not be renewing anything. read more

I'm happy to report my most recent massage experience was a vast improvement, both by front desk personnel and massage therapist (Brie? / Brianna?). Therapist was professional and had good technique that seemed to reflect experience and attention to customer. She was polite but not chatty and was appropriately engaging. Front Desk staff seemed generally 'happier' (more positive) than in the past, smiled, and made eye contact. I observed no negative behavior. This is my favorite Massage Envy location that I've been to and I've been to four others in the DC metro area. I've had two fantastic massage therapists and they are both top notch. The front desk staff is extremely helpful, professional, and prompt (several people work the desk, so there is hardly ever a wait to check in or out and if there is one, it's for like 1 minute). I've never had an issue with anyone at the desk. They always ask the right questions and I've never seen them act in an unprofessional manner, which was an issue at some of the other locations (i.e. goofing around, gossiping). This place is hands-down very customer-service oriented whether you are a member or not, which is more than I can say for the other locations. I was a former member of a different location and had to cancel my membership a few months ago, but I still go for massages sometimes at this location as a non-member. They've never been pushy about me re-enrolling in the Massage Envy membership program, which is great. I had a negative massage experience with one particular therapist there that I made a last-minute appointment with, but at ANY massage place, the therapists will be hit or miss just based on your personal preferences and maybe unforeseen circumstances. The therapist was still very professional and friendly, but just wasn't the right fit for me and it just wasn't a good experience. HOWEVER, the staff at the desk always asks how your massage was because they care about the service they're providing. I'm not one to complain a lot, but I will if really dissatisfied. So, I did let them know and it was handled extremely professionally - had me write up why I wasn't pleased for the manager to see and after seeing how unhappy I was leaving, the lady said I wouldn't be responsible for the payment that day. I was pleasantly surprised because of how other locations had handled similar situations (very rare with me, but just once in a blue moon I would have someone that wasn't good at one of the locations and then say something and I've been visiting the company at various locations since Feb. 2010). My favorite massage therapist here is Tiff. She is awesome!! Very professional and friendly. She uses a great technique that really helps with my pain management of back and neck. Always asks you - as the client - what you want and need at the beginning of the massage appointment...asks if there is anything new bothering you that day that needs extra focus and attention and she remembers your specific needs and preferences each time as far as pressure, problem areas, etc. I always leave after the massage feeling relaxed and pain-free. She even gives recommendations of things you can do to help alleviate pain. I was also pleased to see that she wrote up a big note on the front of my file that reads "only use lotion, no cream" due to my allergy to peanuts and I guess one of their massage products has peanut oil extract or something, which is what she told me the first time I met her. I was really impressed that she has that note on the front of my file for her to remember as well as if any other therapists see me. It's hard for people to always take my food allergy seriously, so it's nice when I find places and people who do. So, I highly recommend her...she books up fast since she is very popular there. I had a coupon for a 1-hour massage for $49. This was in the fall of 2010. The massage therapist wasn't that good; pressure was too light, and she didn't know how to "work out" kinks in muscles. I didn't feel any better after the massage than I felt going in. Also the masseuse complained about how she was struggling financially, sending strong hints about her hopes for a tip. She quit after 50 minutes. The worst part, though, was when the massage was over and it was time to pay. Then they put the screws to me -- they REALLY wanted me to sign a one-year membership thing. It sounded too good to be true, so I asked if I could wait until tomorrow to join, and do some research at home. They were adamant that the "deal" only was valid if I signed up right then & there. Since I know "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch," I refused to join, and I'm glad. when I got home and did some research, I found out that the deal doesn't work and leaves a lot of people mad or frustrated. Massages are only available at inconvenient times....they give you the brand-new or least-requested therapists... and if you don't use up all your massages, they expire. And you can't save them up and use them at the end of a year -- you have to use them once a month, or the unused ones for that month will expire and you never get them back. read more

I first went for a massage because the introductory price was attractive - $49. My therapist was Debbie K and I was very impressed that she took notes on the things that I told her and while I was undressing, she actually researched my unusual skin allergy so that she could be better informed. She kept these notes in my file and even gave me a copy for my own. The massage was great - just the right pressure, focus on trouble areas and technique for me. I know that massage is personal and not every therapist is right for everyone. I did sign up for the membership. On a few other occasions, I've had to switch to another therapist - once because a lady was pregnant but did not schedule a pregnancy massage and her originally scheduled therapist does not do pregnancy massage and once due to trying the hot stone massage. While those massages were okay, Debbie is the right therapist for me. I've also tried the facials and they are good too. The facilities are clean, the environment relaxing, the location convenient. I have received far worse massages for double the price or more at Red Door and also at some vacation resorts. My only complaint is the administrative organization at the front desk. Twice I've changed appointments but been billed no-shows despite having the person I spoke with recall the discussion and/or make notes about it. One time was a situation where I had a double - massage and facial but they only cancelled the one not both. These get resolved okay after the fact but it's stressful when the purpose is to relieve stress. I've also left word for them to have Debbie contact me to coordinate an appointment time since both of our schedules fell out of sync and we need to sometimes involve her in the scheduling but she never got those messages. One time, they "checked me in" but actually didn't so I sat and waited in the relaxation room through half of the appointment time until Debbie walked by and saw me and noted that they were trying to call me since I no-showed. To make up for it, they gave me a complimentary upgrade to aromatherapy which was great and stayed late to make sure I got my full appointment time. I have spoken to the manager Whitney and she was responsive and followed through for me. She seemed to take my comments seriously and from what she's said and how she's responded to other comments here, I feel like it's something they are working on. I got to experience the stretch session last night with Jammal, who is amazing, and it was the best "massage" so to speak I've had there...I came out of there so relaxed, and completely stretched, and felt very flexible, and relaxed. Incredible Massage by Heidi. She is truly amazing. The staff is professional and polite and keep me informed as to status and changes that may occur. I have been getting massages for years. My last therapist here was very good. The atmosphere leaves more to be desired, mostly the waiting area. There are always many people waiting at the same time and much talking going on. When I left my last visit I was once again asked if I wanted to become a member, which I declined. read more

This was my favorite location around the area for a long time, started my membership here when they first opened, but I can't tell you how many appointments I've made this year that has been cancelled! That is, IF I can get an appointment in the first place! I work until late so I love that they open until 10pm on weekdays so I can get in after work on the way home. Unfortunately, you'll have to book a month in advance to get an appointment and be prepared to have the appointment cancelled a day before! The facility itself is very nice, typical Massage Envy decor and service (water, packaged hot tea, tranquility room, nice specious reception are) and the employees are usually very nice. I understand that stuff comes up, but it is ridiculous how many appointments have been cancelled this year, not to mention how hard it is to get an appointment! I bought my mom a membership here and we have the same issues trying to get her an appointment. Sad to say, but I might be canceling my membership once I use up my credit (6 has accumulated from this year after I used a bunch on 2 hour massages) . I don't know many people who can make appointments a month in advance each time, I have a toddler and a job that means I may have to stay late sometimes. So very disappointed when I can finally get an appointment just to have it canceled and no availability for over 2 weeks when we try to reschedule! read more

I've had a Swedish , hot stone, and therapeutic massage with hot towels and body gel, aromatherapy (Lavender)- so relaxing! The front staff was very polite, only problem was there computer system. After the experience I had today, I think that one star is too many. I never even made it to my massage, so I can't review their services. I am reviewing the competency of the front desk/scheduling staff. First of all, the website it horrendous. So, I had to talk about services provided over the phone while scheduling my appointment. I could tell that Sheba, the lady on the phone was struggling scheduling my appointment. So, I confirmed the time and date with her several times. January 20. I arrived this morning only for them to tell me that my appointment was scheduled for February 20! I then waited twenty minutes for someone to come tell me that there was nothing they could do! While I waited there, I saw three other people get turned away due to mis-scheduling! After what I experienced and witnessed I told them I would never return to this or any other Massage Envy and I wanted my money back. They told me no!! Even though this was all absolutely their fault! I have contacted the owner and I have filed an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau to get my $150 back. The massages might be good--if you can get back there. I wouldn't know. Buyer beware!! read more

So I went to Massage Envy Spa for my first real facial and message. I wasn't sure what to expect. The check-in was routine with all the medical questionnaire stuff. The waiting room was nice but a little small and if it is crowded you get the feeling that people are in your personal space. That didn't bother me however. My wait wasn't long before I got called back for my message by Greg. I have to tell you, the message was great. Greg knew all the areas to focus on and is highly professional. I would recommend asking for Greg if you go there. Next came my facial by Karen. Karen did a good job explaining what kind of facial I needed for my skin type. There were hot wraps, lotions, exfoliates, and other products applied, in addition to a little more message which was nice. When finished my face felt really nice and smooth. I do not pretend to be an expert reviewer on this since this is my first time, but I walked out satisfied customer. I would definitely go back again. read more

Such an unprofessional business. The people that work at the front are so unprofessional and always screw up. Can't stand to call here, they are very rude and short with you on the phone. I've had my appointment screwed up so many times. Then I've had a few of their therapist, not sure how many work there, but there is nothing good to say. Have had therapists who smell like cigarettes and pot, when I ask about what they find they really can't tell me anything, they are on they're cell phones in the hallway while waiting for you, I hear them talking about their clients in the hallway, I've even seen another therapist grab another's butt as they were walking, a lot of them are late and giving you less time. I've even seen where a lot walk in right as the massage should be starting and the therapist isn't ready. I also see a lot of unprofessional attire. It's like massage robots, get them in get out no one cares about the client. It's a sales driven massage, definitely not a service based. They could care less about how the massage is as long as they get a membership from you. I've had a lot of massage and I know there are good ones and bad ones but it seems like this place has a lot of bad ones. If there are good ones there I'm sorry but I haven't experienced any of them. The place always a little unkept/unclean. I had gotten a membership but have since cancelled. I am concerned for confidentiality of my records there cause I always see files on a the front counter with all the client info on it, kind of scary. I don't recommend anyone going there. read more
