He is very strong and works out the kinks and knots particularly in neck, shoulders and low back. He also offers a great abdominal massage (try it!) The location is convenient, and clean. At this point when I book the massage I ensure the receptionist understands I am seeking someone who can do more than tickle my shoulders. Nonetheless to no avail. I walk back to the room and the therapist tells me she only does relaxing massages (Light pressure). So, again a waste of my time and gas. If need someone to work some tension out, you better off using the corner of your door frame. Because you likely won't get a therapist that performs the style of massage you are seeking smh! I signed up my fiancé and I for a massage membership about a year ago. When trying to book services there was very rarely an available appointment. This led me to attempt to cancel my membership. They would not let me cancel over the phone. I went to the location and filled out all required paperwork. I confirmed that my account was officially cancelled. I was informed that my card would not be charged for the next membership fee. Over a week later, both of our membership fees were charged. I called and asked why my card was charged. The receptionist informed us that a manager would be in contact with us. I didn't receive a call back the day I called. Another day passed, still no call back. I called again. The manager is still not available and cannot speak to us for another day. Memberships are a complete scam. Do not sign up with this company. No available appointments. No way to cancel. read more

One of the most lackluster massages. The therapist was supposed to do medium pressure, but there was no muscle work... just cold lotion (not very relaxing!). Also, she was sick. I have been a member here for 7 years. For some reason I never stuck to one therapist. Today I had Carolyn and was blown away! I have a stressful job so tend to get knots in my shoulders, my 90 mins treat today, she worked a load of these out, which is normally very painful and then continued to give me the best massage I have ever received. I know different therapists have their ways and I hate the feeble rubs where the palms seem to be the only way to massage. Carolyn was head to toe perfection and just the way she located muscle tension told me that she was a real pro. I was talked into a membership and was led to believe that the credits do not expire. I wasn't able to get the time slots that I wanted and needed, so I decided it was best to cancel and use what I had already accrued. When I cancelled, I was told that I needed to used what I have within 60 days. That was news to me. So I prebooked the 4.5 credit hours and cancelled. The last appointment was cancelled mysteriously out of nowhere. When I called they said that the massage therapist got a new job. So I asked to reschedule, they said fine, but since I am no longer a member, I have to pay the full price. I was like where did my last 1.5 credits go?! I spoke with the assistant mgr and she said that it was already used. WHAT? This place is an absolute sham. Waste of money, poor communication, mismanaged. I'd be fine if they were upfront about the entirety of the membership process. Be warned. I somehow got scammed out of $100 that I somehow cannot use any longer. read more

I had the best experience here! Called in for a same day appointment and they were able to get me in that evening. I was running a few minutes behind due to traffic and they were super nice and waited for me. My massage therapist was Erin and it was by far the best massage I've had! My back, neck and shoulders were really tense and stressed but after 60 minutes with Erin I was like a brand new person! TO ALL HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS I would give 0 stars if i could..:. I booked an appointment today for a rapid tension relief massage at the Glen ellyn location. Upon entry to the store the receptionist asked if i have been exposed to covid-19, as a healthcare professional, working during this pandemic, it is unavoidable. I explained proper PPE was worn during all interaction so it is not a real exposure to Covid-19 and that I am also vaccinated. The young lady then turned me away stating i am not able to receive any sort of treatment today. I am speechless by the fact that a healthcare professional would receive such discrimination. This is not only wrong, but I will also not be using massage envy's survives furthermore. For reference, i have called surround massage envy's, and their policy states that if proper PPE was worn, customers are more than welcome to receive treatment at their locations. This includes wheaton, geneva and many other locations. THAT I RECOMMEND OVER THIS ONE. Made an appointment for a 1pm massage. Got a confirmation email. Got there, checked in and was asked if I wanted to settle my account before I went in. I never do that because how do I know what quality of massage I will get? Then I waited in the member room until 1:20 when I went to ask the front desk person what was going on, she acted like I surprised her. I asked where my therapist was and she didn't know, then I asked for a manager only to be told that the manager was in a "practical" whatever that is. I was told to go back to the member room and the front desk person came i to tell me that I could go home because my therapist was not going to make it. Oh, and for my trouble they will give me a "free enhancement ". The enhancements are crap because they take time away from the actual massage. What a joke. read more

Front desk always over-booking, giving you a call in the middle of your work day asking you to come in at a different time, that only works for them. They use their schedule to their advantage. Can never get people booked because of business or bad schedule planning with the breaks for therapists. Front desk staff always coming in late: sometimes the door isn't even open and your staring at them to open it for you. Not friendly front desk, make fun of others and very cliquey. Front desk seemed to be loud. Always put on hold, or asked to call back. Never see the same faces of receptionists. The manager was very loud from the office echoed though the building. Aromatherapy is 10$ and you only get 10-12 tiny drops diluted with plain water. Quick to grab credit cards or "CARD ON FILE" and ask for enhancements knowing I haven't in the past. They don't care about you, they care about SALES. Lost 4 employees in 1 week because of workplace drama. Only paid 10.00 hour, must do laundry, booking, cleaning, closing, counting, Q&A, sales, membership, calls, late hours, manager Deb chooses favorites. This is a Massage Envy University. Not the real pros. Cancellation fee is ridiculous. 10 minutes after booking same day they wanted to charge my card. THEY ONLY LET ME LOOSE BECAUSE I WAS A MEMBER. Lots of unknowledgeable people working there not qualified for the dermatology part of the job. I wouldn't recommend. Go to the real thing, A DERMATOLOGIST WITH CLINICAL PROCEDURE. I had strong hopes but terribly let down. When felisha left, everything went bad. Sometimes you work 8 hours with no break with nothing said to you, or having the time,Katie overworking the front desk for her own personal income. Paying her employees the lowest wage possible. Yet, doing the most I've ever had to do in any job of mine. I will be sure to tell my friends and family do not come to this business and become a member, they are unprofessional, chatty, and unreliable. Deb couldn't even call me to tell me that I was laid off so I drove all the way to work for nothing and yet, to have the audacity to say "if you could give me the shirt back that would be great" after I had wasted my time, my gas, and my mood like I would drive back there agin, with only an apology after Deb barely speaking to me and being harsh on me more than the others. Watching what I do, because one thing I did 3 years ago popped up in my background check. The customers seemed annoyed with the front desk, knowing they are paid commission even asking sometimes that's how pushy they are with sales products. About four years ago, I made the trek into Massage Envy. I had a decent massage, but really wasn't sure about the place. A few months later, I decided to try it again. I saw a different therapist, and was like, okay, this was pretty nice. I then signed up for the membership. After seeing a few different therapists, and not really caring who I saw, I had my first visit with Craig. He noticed that I had been with multiple therapists, and asked me if I had one that I preferred as my regular therapist. I told him, "nope, I just see whoever." His next words were "Let's see if we can change that." Since that day, I've seen maybe two or three other therapists on occasion and it was typically because I was at a different location. My friends joke that I've "got a guy" for everything...and when it comes to massage, Craig is my guy. Some things I really really like about ME: -When I left my job just 7 months after signing up, and had no money, I was able to put my membership on hold for 6 months, while I got back on my feet. Craig remembered me when I returned. -Bonus points that add up to free add-on half hour massages and free 60-minute massages through referrals and other bonus features. -Rapport. I feel like Craig is one of my pals. Whenever I'm in there, we chat and I have an enjoyable, relaxing 60-90 minutes. read more

I have been a member here for at least 8 years - I became a member the first year the opened at this location. For the first few years I got a massage by "anyone available" because they were all pretty much the same except for the 1 or 2 I didn't like, until.... RUDY. I got him the first time by chance because he was the only person available - and that was it for me! Now, I only see Rudy and won't book with anyone else! He is really amazing. About 2 years ago I moved about an hour away and used my membership at other locations near my new residence and I was always disappointed. Now I drive an hour, 1 way, just to make sure I can get my massage from Rudy. They used to have promotions around the holidays where you guy $150 in gift cards and get a coupon for a free massage. I took advantage of this a few times, but they don't offer that any more. They still offer gift cards with a promotion around the holidays, but it is not a whole massage anymore, just a small credit. I wish they would bring that back the free massage with gift card purchase - it was an awesome deal. read more

Disclaimer: I used to work as an editor for a group of spa and salon magazines, so I tend to be VERY picky when it comes to spa services, especially massages. This was my first trip to a Massage Envy chain. I booked a 50-minute Swedish massage for the introductory $49 price. When I came in, I liked the inside--very professional, clean, modern, smelled lightly of essential oils, good variety of magazines in the waiting area, professional staff, etc. After I filled out my forms, I sat in a separate smaller, less lit waiting area until my massage therapist came to greet me and bring me back to the room. Everything seemed fine, until the service actually started. First of all, it was way too chilly in the room, especially when you're lying there under a light blanket in nothing but underwear. Most spas I've been to have a heating pad or something on the table, but as far as I could tell, this one didn't or it was set waaaay too low. (Come on, it's 40 degrees and raining out, don't make me freeze inside as well!) The massage itself I'd say was just ok. She didn't do anything wrong per se, it just wasn't the greatest I've ever had. And then it ended after only 45 minutes by my watch. Yes, I know it's only 5 minutes short, but when you are supposed to get a 50-minute service and it ends 5 minutes early, you lose out of 10% of your service! Their massages normally cost $78 for a 50-minute service, and I think it costs half that if you buy a package/membership. I feel like with the $49 price, I got my money's worth...but I wouldn't return to pay $78 when I've gotten better massages for that price elsewhere. read more

I've heard some negative things about this place, all related to the front desk staff and not the therapists, however I decided I'd give it a try. I mean, it couldn't really be that bad, could it? Being a former MT myself I have always avoided ME due to their reputation of poor treatment of their therapists but in a moment of desperation I booked an appointment at this location. This is where the front desk staff lived up to their poor reputation. My appointment was incorrectly booked because the girl booking the appointment messed up and was reading another therapist's availability and not the one I requested to be with. So not only did I arrive 40 minutes early I ended up with a 60 min session instead 90. For most people this probably wouldn't be a huge issue but for me it is. I get a massage every 2 weeks and know my body quite well. Therapists typically need 90-120 min to even make a dent in my body. 60 min sessions are more annoying than helpful and I usually rebound and end up worse send the problems did not have time to be adequately addressed. Needless to say, I won't be back. I will continue to look for a regular deep tissue therapist and supplement my sessions at another massage place that recently opened in Danada. This review is strictly related to the front desk staff and not the therapists. Hopefully the owner will work on better training and customer service for the front staff. read more

So, I called there 30 minutes before my appointment to ask how much a hour massage was so I could go and grab the cash, I was told by the receptionist it would be $65 so went to appointment which was just ok for all the questions they make you answer about your problem areas. I went into waiting room at 12:35ish by the time I was done with all the questions! My massage ended at 1:25 .. so is it really a hour? To check out I went and she asked me if I wanted to add any gratuity I said no I'm paying cash, what is the total already knowing in my mind it was $65 cause that is what I was told before I left to go there! She goes $115!!! Um excuse me? i called before appointment to ask cause I wanted to pay cash and she said well that's if you are a member, talk about seeing red! No explanation! Nothing! My definition of that is called a SCAM!! Not being up front with a customer is just bad business!!! Do I really need to read the fine print before I get a service! I have been a member at this location on and off for years, coming in for massages at least monthly. The massage therapists are great! Craig and Steve are very talented, and I'm a bit of a snob. The front desk people are not great, and can ruin a good experience. Early this morning, I called to cancel my appointment for this evening, as I have Influenza B with a high fever. The person on the phone told me they would need to charge me for the visit. (Which they already have because I am a member.). I asked her if she wanted me to infect their office with the Flu. She said that it was their policy, and she would waive it but I have cancelled before. I have never cancelled without notice before, and have been going there for 10 years, so of course I have cancelled during that time. I told her not to cancel, as I can't afford to pay over $100 for a service I didn't get, but she should let the massage therapist know that I have the flu. And she hung up on me!!!!! When I called back to speak to a manager, there isn't one available. I will be canceling my subscription and notifying everyone I know about this crappy customer service that puts their employees at risk. I just had a 60min massage today, I was extremely stressed out and had bad knots. I wanted someone experienced who could exert pressure so I can have relief... The guy was nice to me, but honestly I have had better! He didn't really release the tension in my knots, he told me that would take multiple sessions, mind you, Im well aware of this since I get regular massages, but there is still some kind of relief even on day one. He was just ok with my neck and back but with my legs and arms he lacked rhythm and flow and his movements were choppy, even my tired husband does a better job, after I nag him! Anyway, my MT sounded sick, he was sniffling, I asked if he was sick and he told me its just asthma, so Im just hoping I don't get a cold or something too, because I will be right back there and it won't be for a massage! Just sayin! I also asked for something to cover my eyes once I turned around because the light couldn't go any dimmer and was right above my head and they didn't have anything, not even a towel to cover my eyes! So in a nutshell, I was not very relaxed or pleased either. i've been a member at MassageEnvy since 2013 and I've never experienced the poor service at the reception desk that is noted in several reviews. Ambience at both the old location and the new were and are great. Always happy with the massages and the female therapists that I've had in Glen Ellyn. However, I've had BethAnn as my therapist there most of the time. She will make sure she knows what your concerns are for your massage each time and that the table temperature is comfortable. Find a time to match up with BethAnn and you can't go wrong. And people, you should be aware that a 60 minute appointment includes 10 minutes of undressing/dressing time. Come on. On the 12 th month of my contract I spoke with someone at massage envy and asked " after the the year is up Will they continue to deduct money from my account ? " I was told no . Guess what , they did . They only thing the rude receptionist could tell me was that I could come into their location and fill out paperwork to terminate the services...oh yeah and you have 60 days to use your 9 sessions which I already paid for . Massage Envy in Glen Ellyn was wonderful in its former location. I was a charter member, usually had great massages, and it felt so great to be recognized warmly as I entered and left. However, in a new Glen Ellyn location, I suspect it is management that has changed the entire feel of the place. It is much more corporate of an operation now. Often I can walk in or out and no one is at the Front Desk. Getting eye contact is another endeavor altogether. There is nothing wrong with the services provided. But the way in which the manager so very rudely spoke to me on my last visit ruined my experience. And not just for that evening. read more

This rating applies to front desk staff ONLY - The owner really needs to consider having management present in the building at all times for purposes of making executive decisions. If it weren't for my love of Thor's skills and techniques, I would have terminated my membership after my last experience. My vehicle broke down about 4 hours prior to my appointment. I phoned to inform the front desk I might not make my appointment. The front desk clerk (quite rudely) informed me I would be charged anyway. I busted my hump, jumped through hoops, got a tow, found a nearby service center, found out the repair was actually pretty minor and a quick fix, and by some miracle, was going to make my scheduled 90 minute appointment. After initially speaking with the front desk at the GE location, I left 2 VMs within 30-40 minutes of my initial phone call AND sent them an email AND sent them a PM through Facebook, informing them I would make the appointment after all. I picked up the babysitter on the way home from the repair center and dashed over to the Massage Envy in GE, calling again on my way, this time speaking with a new representative, (much more polite than the first), who informed me they had not only given my appointment away, but they had indeed charged me as well. WTF???!!! At least this resourceful and accommodating individual was able to get me in for at least a 60 minute with my therapist, which wasn't long enough for my condition and treatment, but will hold me over until I can come back. On a positive note - The manager called and offered me points towards the 30 minutes they charged me for the "cancellation", although I wouldn't say management was very apologetic. I also completed a bluntly honest survey to which I've seen no follow up or results. But I'm still out the extra cost of the sitter that day, and now I have to return sooner than I normally would. 30 minutes of points doesn't really make up for the extra cost I incurred and will incur in the future. I mean really - What gives? There's a lot of negative reviews about the administrative staff at this location, but there seems to be little attention given to the problem. I had written a very long letter to the district manager and to corporate about my experience to which I received ZERO response, not even an apology. My letter was very detailed and entailed everything that went wrong during my visit. I won't bore you with all those details, I'll just highlight the problems with my visit through bullet points: - Extremely poor communication between the people making appointments and those at the location. - Aggressive and overly hostile staff - A skin care therapist who: 1. Was late, and shortened my appointment 2. Left numerous times during my treatment 3. Stunk of nicotine which I could smell on her fingers as she treated my skin 4. Talked incessantly from the beginning of the app. until the end 5. Endlessly spoke about the products, purchasing the products, and making future appointments. 6. Who had the wrong chart, then didn't have my chart, then didn't know who I was. She was unaware of my skin condition, preferences, allergies, etc. 7. Accused me of being pregnant even though I was not expecting - No compensation or apology, despite having spent $140 dollars on services and leaving with nothing to show for it In addition to these complaints DURING my experience, dealing with the girls behind the counter upon payment was so painful I was nearly in tears when I left. Every ounce of relaxation that I (tried to) experience, was wiped away and instead, intensified with stress: (below is my letter, verbatim, to corporate days after my experience.) ''When I emerged from the massage and facial, I was greeted by Natalie and Monica sitting behind the front desk. They asked how everything was, and gave me the total price for my appointment. At that point, I said "excuse me" and asked her to repeat it. Then, she told me that it was the full price and that she didn't "know what [I] was thinking, but that's the price." And said, "You know, you've been here before." I explained everything to her that I've already explained to you; how I called another location, and double checked twice, and called back to assure that I wouldn't be having an argument about price after my treatment. The girls insisted that was what I pay and I told them I couldn't afford something like that and the only reason I booked the appointment was because the girl on the phone volunteered that I get the lower rates since so much time passed since my last visit. I told the girls that I hardly ever do anything like this, and I don't get massages often. I said "my last visit was LAST YEAR on my birthday, it's not like I was in here a month ago," to which Monica replied, "well actually, you were here on August 5th." (my appointment took place Aug 4) Then she told me that I had been in again in late September, and I told her I hadn't been back since August. "Well, it says on my screen you were here in September." I thought about it for a few moments then I realized that was a day when I had sent my boyfriend in to purchase skin care products for me. It wasn't for services. I asked her if she could tell what the visit was for, and she shrugged and said nothing. Then, she insisted that I pay and I told her that it wasn't fair I was quoted a price on the phone, only to be railroaded into paying a higher price AFTER my services. I also explained to Monica that the girl on the phone told me that she would note on my account that I get the lower price. She paused for a moment, then replied "well that's FUNNY, cuz the exact opposite has been noted on your account NOT to give you the introductory rate because you're a returning customer." I told her that didn't even make sense! If your policy is to charge a higher rate to returning customers, why would it have to be noted to charge someone more? Again, she just shrugged. Every ounce of relaxation that I had experienced moments ago had been wiped away. As stressed as I felt before my massage, I felt worse after my appointment than before. I felt like crying. Then I started to worry that I wouldn't be able to tip because I didn't have enough to pay the unexpected total. At this point, I told them I wasn't paying it and asked for a manager. Conversation went on and back and forth for another 5-8 minutes before they finally just gave me the rate I had been promised when I made the appointment. I asked the girls for corporate information or for a manager and they told me that corporate does not give out their information. I asked how anyone can contact them and she said I could call her manager. I told her to please have her manager call me.'' It is for the lack of respect and care for Massage Envy patrons that I'm writing this review almost a year later. I figured enough time has passed to contact me, and it hasn't happened. read more

I love seeing Nicole at Massage Envy for massages! I have a disability (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) that causes loose joints, and I have PTSD in one of my legs. Nicole is careful, and a good listener, to make sure my massages are helpful and not harmful. She also gives me the breast pillow so that I can lay more comfortably, and this really helps my ribs, as well! read more

I am not a member but my husband is from the Streeterville location. We were in Glen Ellyn visiting family so he thought why not try a new location? I was dumbfounded at this place. First of all those poor girls at the front desk have to sit in either the FREEZING cold or the SWELTERING heat. They are pushed to make sales and get yelled at if they dont (Im sure)...and to top it off I was just sitting in the lobby waiting for him and there was a lady (man?) who kept saying she was the owner she was the owner....and I couldnt believe how RUDE she was to some of her employees.....but I guess thats neither here nor there....i wouldnt want to make that crazy lady any money if i was her staff. so anyway, alot of the therapists were just standing around up in the lobby which i thought was sort of strange as well. shouldnt they be in the back doing something else? It was too cold in the lobby and too cold when I went to the bathroom. My husband later said he could hear the phone ringing in the lobby from his room and that the tipping signs were everywhere he looked. Why should he be told what to tip? How tacky is THAT? This place is a straight-up scam. Beware. They will talk you into a package for a year but make it nearly impossible to cancel. They will also NEVER call you to indicate your dues have been yanked from you account. At my year, I was told I needed to use all of the packages that I had already paid in 30 days if i cancelled. So meaning, if I didnt get several massages that I paid for, I would simply lose them post-30days. Even then it was impossible to cancel. I was told the owner of the franchise would call me. TWICE. Never happened. As I assumed my acct was cancelled, I got a call several months later indicating I had NINE sessions that I was completely unaware of. No one ever called when they took my money and now I am even deeper. They will not compensate me and they will only give me 30 days to use what Ive paid for. Oh ... and if I truly want to cancel, I am now being notified that I need to physically come in the store and do it. ABSURD. Do not, i repeat, DO NOT get duped by this place. Not worth it. read more

Best Massage Ever! My massage therapist was amazing...I was so relaxed I actually fell asleep. It was wonderful. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because my massage started 7 minutes late, but ended right on time, so I missed out on 7 minutes of the 90 minute massage I paid for. Other than that, everything was great. The low-lit waiting rooms is very soothing and the staff is extremely professional. read more
