I feel uncomfortable every time I go to this place. I'm not sure if there is a massage culture, but I definitely feel like an outsider of some sort when I go in. I'm like some sort of undocumented massage immigrant who doesn't speak massage. But, after the initial awkwardness, it does get better. They usually take me into this room and make me fill out this form because, somehow, it's always my first time there. While I do this, they give me water with lemon in it. Why is there lemon in it? You know, because they're classy! Anyway, I've had all kinds of massages from my friend's "hey, I'm good at this, let me hurt you" to the guy in the mall's "come sit here for 10 minutes in front of loads of people with your face in a toilet-like chair." to Thai massages in Thailand (and everything in between). I would rate the quality of massage at Massage Envy part of "everything in between". It's never too far off from the pressure I am looking for, but it's also never spot on. They use a lot of oil for some reason... like, a lot. And, sometimes, there's a good deal of unwanted conversation while I'm trying to be all zen and relaxed and what not. That being said, it's not the worst place to get a massage. You almost get your monies worth (almost) and it's what you would expect from a chain business. I do enjoy my membership to Massage Envy. When I get there I get in the room promptly and my massage is just exactly what I'm looking for. April is awesome! I would give it more stars... Except it's soooo hard to make an appointment. I've called so many times during their open hours- weekdays weekends, afternoons, evenings but many times there's no answer. Then they say to leave a message and they never call back. One time I actually thought they went out of business it took me so many days to reach them. Wish there was a way to schedule online. Kind of a crazy way to run a business! I'll stick with them because I like April's massages but if she wasn't there I probably stop my membership. read more

My boyfriend and I got gift cards for Christmas that we just used last weekend -- I was hesitant to go because I'm not the biggest fan of chain spas anyway. So, we were expecting to get a couples massage, they don't offer that. We thought we could chose if we wanted a male or female. We couldn't. Anyway we went in separately -- my girl talked THE WHOLE TIME! She told me how she didn't have money for rent the follow week, she told me she was so tired they kept working her back to back and that she apparently fainted the previous week. She told me she was almost raped! And that they did nothing about it. She kept tripping over all the plugs and unplugging the music and saying how it was a hazard cause she's always falling. NOT RELAXING AT ALL! Once I was done with this super awkward massage I went out to the reception area and noticed my boyfriend wasn't done. So I asked if it was supposed to 30 min or an hour and the guy at the front said an hour. And well to no surprise my awkward massage was only 30 MINUTES! Then I go to pay with the gift cards which were $55 each cause that's supposed to be the price of your 1st massage well apparently THAT LOCATION DOESNT FOLLOW THAT RULE. Why didnt I come here sooner?!?! I had a great experience here over the weekend! I am training for my 1st half-marathon so after my first ever 12 mile run on Saturday my WHOLE body hurt...especially my legs. I called on Saturday hoping for a Sunday afternoon appt and sure enough, they had several available. My appt was @ 1 on Sunday so I got there at 12:45 to fill out the paperwork. The girls at the front desk were very friendly and informative. The waiting area was clean and organized. After filling out the paperwork I was seated in the Tranquility Room. It was very relaxing...comfortable chairs, lights dimed, soft music... My massage therapist was Adriane. She was very nice and knowledgeable and she listened to all my issues then did the massage based on my soreness and wants/needs. She concentrated a little longer on my legs b/c of how much pain I was in but she still gave me a full body massage... She was amazing...perfect! I walked into the massage in so much pain and walking funny. When I left there I felt 100 times better....barely sore at all and I could walk normal again. I immediately signed up for a membership. Its a great deal, especially with the training I am doing! So, I will keep going back here and using Adriane! I cant wait until my next appt! One a month just wont be enough! :) read more

Prior to visiting Massage Envy I had never had a massage other than a short, in office chair, massage at a previous job. I had been having really horrible headaches that would cause me to go to the the doctor every couple of months. I couldn't figure out the headaches but was told it was stress and to try and make time to have a massage once a month or so. So unarmed with any previous knowledge I asked a friend who said call a Massage envy and maybe sign up for a membership, which I did. The first visit to any location they have you fill out a medical history form. One of the questions is what level of massage you want, and this form is really my only real complaint about this experience. If the only thing you know about massages is what you have seen on tv, you don't know enough to answer this questionnaire (in terms of preferences) and have it be meaningful. I don't remember names of muscle groups off the top of my head so how do I know if I want you not to touch or focus on certain ones? Deep tissue massage sounds familiar... maybe I want that? At this point I am thankful the woman behind the counter told me not to do deep tissue if I had never previously had a massage. I went medium and it was too much. The next day I felt like someone had beat me up. Everything on my back was tender. I also didn't think to tell the person massaging me to use a lighter touch. This is apparently not only appropriate but encouraged, I was just unaware. The next time I visited there was another new client and she was also strugglig with this form. There is a private office on the side I think this would be a perfect opportunity to meet with a manager who goes over the sheet, and the options available so you can make an informed decision. Maybe the idea is they don't want it to feel like a hard sell? The massage itself is done very professionally. I have had two different people, one male, one female, both very efficient and professional. I liked the second massage a lot better. I paid a bit more for the aromatherapy and I got a lighter massage and for what I needed (headache relief) it was just right. read more

I have never written a review on Yelp before today but Massage Envy - Tanglewood needs to be called out for what it is. I went in to schedule a massage last month and was told I had three credits remaining that would expire in a couple of weeks. I was going out of town so the very professional manager, Lauren, gave me her card and said. "No problem, I will extend it for another 30 days. Just show them this card if you have any problem." Fast forward to today. I go in to schedule a facial and a massage and they said my account had expired. I showed them Lauren's card and told them what she had told me. The receptionist goes in and a young woman comes out and says she's the new manager and could not honor my three credits but as a courtesy she would honor one. I said that's not what I was told to which she replied Lauren was no longer there and that's all she would do. I asked to speak to her manager and Monica, the area manager per her business card, came out and spoke in the most condescending manner saying that was their new policy and in the most syrapy, fake voice how sorry she was and then sarcastically said "have a nice day" as I was leaving. This literally could not have been handled in a more unprofessional way. This new manager and area manager obviously has never been trained in customer service. Bottom line: 1) I'm out two credits for two massages which were already paid for in advance and 2) I will never darken the doors of Massage Envy again. I'm still appalled at how condescending this woman was. In today's economic climate, you just don't treat customers like that and expect them to return. read more

I have a membership at the Seal Beach location and LOVE it! I came in about a year ago for a pregnancy massage and was scheduled with Michelle. I have had a pregnancy massage before and because of the baby, the massage is only done while laying on your sides and there are certain areas/pressure points they cannot touch. With that being said I was not expecting much, but she was AMAZING and I signed up for a membership on the spot! As a working mother of three under 5 this is my self care... my monthly treat and time out. I don't always have the time to go so when I do it is last minute. The thing I love about this location is that they almost always have a same day opening and each therapist (7 so far) I have had have been wonderful! With all that being said, I would highly recommend getting a monthly membership at the Seal Beach location.... you will thank yourself! read more

Made an appointment on the phone in the morning for that afternoon. Gave all my Information to the person on the phone and was told I was booked for 4pm. I drove 20 miles to the appt . When I arrived I was told they don't have me down for an appt and they are completely booked. I've been a member of massage envy since 2009, it's been the best investment I've ever made. I suffer from nerve damage from a auto accident in 2003 which occasionally flare up leaving me in a state of unbelievable amount of pain. I started at this location initially and as I've moved I've been able to transfer my account from Texas to Florida and back, easily. I visited this location the other day as I started to feel pain approaching. I called the same morning and asked to be with a therapist who was trained in deep tissue and sports injury. I use to do crossfit but stopped about a year ago when I moved bk to TX, I went on a hike from aspen to crested butte in August that ended in sever knee pain. I attribute the knee issue to the nerve damage. It since has affected my whole left side...sciatica, IT band, hip flexor and hamstring tightness. They say flares are caused by "overdue workouts", even though these days that means 40 min on the elliptical not crossfit as I use to do. My goal is to get these muscles in line so I can return to advanced workouts. I was recommended to Kim, as she is a top therapist at this location. I have to say, she did some massage techniques that, in all the years I've gone have never experienced. It was painful (they always are) but I left feeling amazing. Her technique and knowledge really relaxed the muscles and fast! Which is why I left in an almost euphoric daze. I'm looking forward to seeing her again next week! She is now my go to therapist at this location!! read more

I SO wanted to find a spa where I could get a membership so I could have the benefit of monthly massages. Unfortunately, massage envy is not the one for me. I had an 11am appointment and my therapist did not show up to work. I waited 20 minutes past 11 when the receptionist informed me that she hadn't shown up. They offered me a time later in the afternoon to come back. When I did come back for my 60 minute massage, it was rushed- only 45 minutes. I stated that I preferred very firm pressure but it felt more like my back was being scratched. I did not benefit from the massage at all. My massage was complimentary due to the issue so I will at least give them that. Thanks for owning the mistake! read more

I've had a previous account with massage envy that i let close before because i was continuously accumulating massages that i didnt have time to use. I left massage envy with a total of 8 unused credits. This was several years ago. Lauren contacted me last month stating if i reopened my membership i would be given all those credits back plus an additional credit. Here we are several weeks later, I'm back in a contract with ZERO credits on my account. I've called this location several times, spoke with Lauren and others and just keep continuously getting the run around. I should have just left it closed but i have no problem closing it again before my card gets charged. Terrible customer service. read more

I have been here a few times now and definitely want to share my experience since they have been just outstanding. Every time I have gone up to Massage Envy the receptionists have been nothing but friendly and personable. I have never had an issue scheduling an appointment (given this IS the Galleria area and someday appointments are hard to come by naturally) The manager has been courteous and professional, the several different therapists I've had work on me have all been fantastic.. I was blown away by the amount of pressure even the most meek looking therapist could put, which is always great. I really enjoy my membership and recommend it to my friends, as well as love giving out the little gift passes. End of the day, five stars hands down. read more

Once we got there we went straight to the back and they literally gave us a 5 min massage and made us pay the full amount of $50 for a full body massage that we didn't get! I gave myself some time to cool off before writing a review on this business and to rethink if this one was necessary to even mention. After thinking it through, I need to let you know what kind of "customer service/satisfaction" Massage Envy or this particular location provides. I'm a loyal customer here, I even have a membership. I scheduled an appointment at 9PM WEEKS ago with my therapist. The day before one of the reps called to confirm my appointment. I asked if there were any earlier ones available, luckily she said a 7:30PM slot was open so I decided to take it. I was looking forward to this massage all day, again let me emphasize I'd been waiting WEEKS to book with this certain therapist. I come in to check in and another rep tells me that my appointment s at 9PM and not 7:30pm. I reassure her that I rescheduled that to the earlier open slot. It turns out it was their error since the rep I spoke to on the phone forgot to move me up. I completely understood but was a bit annoyed that I had to go through traffic on 610 (Houstonites, you know how miserable traffic can be around there) to get to my appointment I had been looking forward all day for. The rep at the counter is super nice and says that all they're here to do is to make their customers happy and assures me that I'll get a complimentary massage free of charge just because of the inconvenience of me driving all the way out when it was their mistake and all I had to do was just wait a couple of minutes since the therapist I would get was "on break". Well the manager comes out and she talks to him right in front of me. This manager who lacks customer service skills and showing any type of concern for me says that we'll rebook my appointment AND gave me an additional 30 minute credit to my account. I thought to myself "WOW! They're really going above and beyond to making me happy...a complimentary massage and extra 30 minute credit?!" That wasn't the case when I asked him "Do I still get my massage?" The manager then says no and that there is no one available. I didn't even bother to mention that the rep at the front desk gave me her word that there was someone available and that I would get my complimentary massage. He saw my disappointed reaction and then proceeded to offer a lame 30 minute massage at 8PM to which I told him it wasn't worth it and left. Oh yeah and that appointment I rebooked, I have to wait ANOTHER 2 weeks to get an appointment in with the therapist I go to. I honestly didnt want to make a scene and be one of those customers that ruin people's nights and moods and get in a fuss. But I was FUMED when I walked out the door and couldn't wait to share this horrible customer experience with you all. I had raved about this business to all my friends but after tonight's unexpected treatment, I will be cancelling my membership with them. To even offer a 30 minute massage credit is pathetic and the manager lacked any sincerity in his apologies to me. To all you fellow yelpers and potential customers, do yourself a favor and spend a little bit more money to get treated better somewhere else. read more

I am a former member and a current unfortunate customer that has several xmas gift cards from another victim that bought it from them to pass around to family. If you are a member you pay for one hour per month but the only availabilities are during the day in peak hours when we all work and even if open, you are forced then to a 90 minutes session because there are no 60 minutes for you. Then I cancelled my membership and they did not honor it for 3 months until I tool time off and went in physically for them to cancel . They are very very good in blaming each other and continuously saying manager is not here and you did not speak to me !! Zero accountability as a business with a whole bunch of non-trained, no personal skill employees . they way they tall is as if they were raised in a barn and I am an animal lover ! In trying to finish off the gift cards for the past 4 months and since Xmas, there are never open hours and if so there are 90 minutes only , finally made a 60 minute one just today, got called 5 times for confirmation of apt and reiteration of how I would pay 50% if I cancel less that 24 ours in advance the day before with the last call at 9:30 PM saying their computer were all wacked up and they are just doing due diligence . Took time of work to make it and I get a call 2 hours prior that the aesthetician is sick , getting married , and not coming back ever !!!!. No mention of sorry, can we re-schedule you , can we provide you another person, nothing !!!!! only input was , can you call other locations to see if they have aestheticians open. I came here with my mom to celebrate her birthday along with my younger sister and all I can say is "aaaaaaaaaaaaah". Maybe I should not write this immediately following my first massage here :-) The galleria location looks new, and modern, with plenty of calming elements. Lots of subdued lighting and deep purples. No crazy fountains, incense, scary overbearing music, etc. The tables are very cushioned and have a heat pad, which was a nice surprise for my back. They have a membership program, which is pitched at every transaction--they ask you if you want to hear about it and no is an okay answer. Without a membership, you can get a 1 hour massage for $65.99 plus tax, which is a very good price considering the area. This price is for any type including deep tissue which I recommend. I had Michael, who was well-versed in kinetics, and I actually learned quite a bit about my body. He is fantastic! I had severe neck pain due to a car accident and Michael was able to relieve all the tension built up in my neck muscles. read more

This organization is a sham. There are so many backwards organizational things - like, you have to contact your original location to make credit card/subscription changes, you can't switch "base locations", etc... We're getting tweets from the Space Station but this company can't share information. Probably because these are franchised ... by people who, apparently don't care about a customer experience. Your experience here can vary from really great to really terrible and it's 100% correlated to the staff. There are some really shining stars and then there are some really bad hires. I've been getting my bi-monthly massages here for over a year now. And having since moved away from this (Galleria) location, I will still make the 30 mile roundtrip just to come back for Kimberly's magic fingers! Her technique is a combination of deep tissue and acupressure with strong yet gentle hands that know just where your problem areas are! The treatment rooms and surrounding areas are pristine/well-maintained. The staff are all appropriately professional and personable. I went in for a deep tissue massage with a desire to focus on my right leg which was experiencing sciatica problems. Yay for my mom "treating" my sister and I to massages... using the Christmas gift card my sister got for her... for first time visitors, I think an hour massage is $39. Some people have said that this isn't actually an entire hour massage and that's true... it's more like 50 minutes since they give you a mini consultation. For that price, it's still a great deal! I've been here twice since Christmas (second time on my mom's guest pass for another $39). My second full body relaxation massage was definitely more thorough and it was so relaxing that I fell asleep! I felt amazing afterwards. I have been a client at this Massage Envy location for over a year now, and the staff continues to impress me every time I visit. The reception area and tranquility waiting room are always clean and relaxing, but the staff members at this location really stand out. The managers and front office team are always professional, courteous, helpful, and fun to be around. It is refreshing to know that when I walk in the door I will be greeted with a smile and efficient service. I look forward to seeing them every week because they are always so friendly! I also love this location because my massage therapist, Adriane, is incredible. I think that massage can be a vulnerable and awkward experience, so I was very nervous the first time I had an appointment with Adriane. But she was so patient and sensitive to my needs that I immediately felt more at ease, and I couldn't believe how amazing my session was! I felt so relaxed and my tension was completely gone. Adriane has been my only massage therapist ever since, and I have become so relaxed during my sessions with her that I often fall asleep! She continues to impress, and I appreciate that she always asks how I'm feeling and focuses her attention on exactly what I need each time. I cannot say enough about my experience at Massage Envy. The staff is very nice and Brenda gave an amazing massage. I highly recommend Brenda. I get a massage often, but rarely does my mind drift away during. Brenda offered a great relaxation experience; everything in my life left my mind only allowing complete enjoyment of the massage. Loved it. My stress area is in my legs but even before they were addressed I felt more at ease. I will be back!! I prefer not to talk during my massage, so if your looking for that twofer of masseuse and therapists, I can't help you. I do know Brenda knows her stuff. read more
