She is 8 1/2 months pregnant and she booked a massage for today with Shamika because she has been having a lot of backache, After all the driving there Ms Shamika showed a very disrespectful attitude with my daughter because she was not feeling well. Also the therapist was not aware that she had a pregnant client, this is what she said. This beautiful spa is a hidden gem! With all of the options in the Houston area this spa exceeds all that we have tried. My husband & I could be considered massage conosiers. We are both in our 50's & hunch over computers for the majority of our work days. Great for our careers but not so great for our neck & back. We received a gift certificate from a family member to Hiatus. Anyone that knows us knows how much we love massages! We booked a couple's massage within hours of receiving the certificate. We usually arrive early for spa appointments in case the spa has a sauna or relaxation room to get us mentally ready for the experience. Hiatus did not disappoint & had both! The aroma when you walk in is pure zen! Although we've had many massages this was the first one that incorporated essential oils into the massage. The masseuses were very good & had strong hands. Not too strong. They both frequently asked about the pressure to make sure we were comfortable and getting the most bout of our experience. There was a pre-massage foot soak & the entire experience was Heaven! This is an Aveda spa and we had not used many Aveda products prior to this massage but we will now! The only negative is that my husband is no longer open to trying other places! Hiatus has spoiled him. Owners: I now am going to have to get hubby a membership for Father's Day so feel free to have one of your sales persons contact me to discuss the different memberships. She gives the BEST facials and really works with my skin and not just another basic facial. I also love working with Rasheda. She gives amazing massages and always focuses on my problem areas. I don't usually visit spas so when I want to get a facial done, I do lots of googling ahead of time... I decided on hiatus because of the reviews and their social media page. I filled out the forms they requested ahead of time, so when I arrived, I was almost immediately taken to the relaxation room where I enjoyed a soothing cup of tea. I got the GuoSha facial. The treatment was topical: creams, serums, etc. etc.. one of the last creams they put on had a glimmery base, so my face was shiny when leaving. I didn't like that too much but overall the facial was good. The only reason why it's not 5 stars is because she did not move my hair out of the way to avoid it getting super greasy from the aromatic oils that were used. I went for a mother-daughter spa day, and we were both so happy with the services. Mom got a great "knockout" massage and was visibly more relaxed afterwards, and she was so thrilled. We then both got the "29 again" facials which left us both feeling so smooth and looking so beautiful. Pricing is not too bad especially with the membership, so I'll definitely come back for a monthly service! Services were timely and one even started earlier than scheduled, so we didn't have to wait. And while I waited for my mom's massage I enjoyed the lounge with comfy seating and hot relaxing tea. The locker rooms are also very comfortable. Nice large showers, comfy robes and slippers, and clean lockers. The whole place was truly pristine even on a busy Saturday, and I never felt like it was crowded. read more

Sadly, one of the worst facial experiences I have ever had. Booked The Sparkler a couple of days in advance. When I arrived, I was given the choice of either a foot soak or hot towel wrap around the neck. So, I marked the foot soak. After I got changed and got ready for the facial. My esthetician Talat Zia let me know that they apparently ran out of hot water...so they couldn't do the foot soak. So, I had no choice but to do the hot towel wrap. The towel they provided me to wrap my upper half of my body was too loose as well. The facial began and the pressure was good and technique was nice. But, Talat had been coughing and sneezing a couple times throughout the 1 hr session which made me feel uncomfortable and uneasy as she was not wearing a mask. I did a add on of the head massage. But I was not okay with it because All that was done was she was scratching/itching my hair/scalp. There was no pressure points or massaging going on. I did make it vocal that I wasn't a fan of steaming and she continued to turn on the steamer many times throughout the session. She was up charged for two "extra" services that I did not ask for (one was for extractions which are part of the standard facial) and the right side of my face was scrubbed raw - looked like road-rash. I had a very relaxing mani-pedi earlier today. I was seated in a zero-gravity chair, given a fluffy blankie, earphones and a eye mask. I might have fallen asleep. The spa is honestly so disgusting to the point where it doesn't seem like nothing is done about it till there's a lot of complaints. There's termites eating at their wood there was a whole nest inside, the vichi shower grows mold so they try to cover it up with and the showers are no better when it's supposed to be a somewhat high end spa the shower heads aren't the best, some of the little nozzles don't have water coming out or some will spray not even straight down. The metal handles are rusty which isn't pleasant to see, and the paint chips off the door when the door knob is also not movable. When it's told my management they don't seem to care. This was my first spa experience and I have to say it was 10/10. It started off with Savannah doing my facial. She did amazing! Then Lorenzo did my massage and it was life changing! He did exactly what I asked for and applied just the right about of pressure. Lastly, I got a mani pedi. It was a very different nail salon experience. You wear headphones with calming nature sounds and lean back on the 360 chair. I fell asleep during it! It's important note that the mani pedis are very basic though. I had acrylics on and they were not able to take them off there so I couldn't get an actual manicure and she just massaged my hands. The lady Maria is the best at it and that made me very uncomfortable and always go way over than the cost I expect. It's a big rip off. 2. When you try to terminate the membership, they only handle it via email and nobody would answer your call. 3. They charge extra month for the membership when you terminate and you cannot use this last credit unless your local store purchase is high than this last credit amount. After months of working from home due to Covid, I really need a 90 minute massage. I have a lot of kinks & knots to work out of my back and legs. Julio was incredible, truly. Just the right amount of pressure where it was need most. He was consistent in asking how i was doing but didn't interrupt the peace and quiet to fully appreciate my evening. The spa as whole seems to be doing their absolute best at maintaining cleanliness and social distancing right now. I've always enjoyed my services at Hiatus and am just so thankful they are back open. We need to be better at self care, this is a great add to the list. read more

What an experience. If you need time to disconnect and relax, this is the place to be! Great birthday treat, anniversary experience, or day with the girls. When they take you to the back, you change in the locker room which is stocked with plush robes, rubber (yet cushioned) sandals, towels, and toiletries (razors, shaving cream, combs, mouth wash, eye makeup remover, and feminine products). Couldn't ask for more. The bathroom stalls and showers are spacious. Then you relax in the lounge area until they call you for your service. The lounge area really sets the tone for relaxation. The sofas are so comfy, they have cucumber and strawberry infused water, and tea. Additionally they play soft music which helps with the unwinding. I've been a few times. Once for a facial which was incredible. The esthetician was knowledgeable and gentle with my sensitive skin. And I could see and feel a difference in the appearance of my skin. My husband also took notice, which says a lot. The other times, I've received massages. They begin with either a warm towel on your neck or a warm foot soak. Then you choose which scent you want them to use. They offered Lavender, Mint, and I forgot the other scent. Most recently, my masseuse was, Pogee. She was friendly and did an amazing job, requiring no feedback after my initial request. Tip: make sure to ask for a licensed masseuse, not all of them massage therapists are licensed. I almost gave this a 5 star review...until it was time to check out. The girl asked if I wanted to leave gratuity. Although this was a Groupon for $69, I wanted to pay 20% of the full cost of the massage ($120). So when I said, "yes, $24," she responded with, "okay JUST $24 today." I was taken back and insulted by that remark. I've always heard 20% was standard. Before that comment, I felt refreshed, but that comment really left a bad taste. Everything that glitters isn't gold. I was super excited when I first signed up for their membership back in march. My facial with Chanell was great! However I had a less than spectacular massage experience with Jaclyn. She was terrible and I was far from relaxed. It was like getting a massage from a kitten that wouldn't shut-up. After my appointment I completed the survey about my experience and a few days later i received a VM from Anthony Who wanted to further speak with me about my experience. I called him back but was unable to reach him and the front desk agent informed me that she would relay the message. A few days later... No call back. So I decided to give them another call myself. Again, The receptionist informed me that he was not in and they were not sure when he would return. At this point I am no longer interested in being a member at this location and have emailed them on multiple occasions to cancel my membership but I have not received a response. I've decided that I'm moving forward and filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau because this is beyond ridiculous. I had a great Mom-to-be massage with John. He really helped me relieve some of the pain and tightness I've been dealing with. The front staff were very polite and accommodating. My only complaints are: The tea - it seems to be artificially sweetened because it tastes like sweet-n-low. It would be nice to have hot tea with a natural sugar option. Or hot water with bags for unsweetened. The womens shower - It clearly had not been cleaned. I walked in there at 11:45 am and there was a ton of hair all over it. I wasn't planning on writing this but it's Friday and I've been asking since Tuesday to cancel my membership so here we are. This spa charges like top tier spa but you get a very cheap experience. The massage was great, I haven't had a bad massage there to this day--if you go, see John. That's really where the good points end, though. The spa tries to replicate Milk & Honey in it's private bathroom and wait area however with half of the amenities and a lot of out of order lockers. The mani pedi does something unique by putting a face mask on and tilting you all the way back but save your money because there are far better nail spas around houston, even for cruelty free options. It was sub par at best and I asked for the upgrade of reflexology but never got it. It's the second time I've asked for the upgrade, I even called ahead once...never got it. Luckily I told them and didn't pay for it. I signed up for this membership originally because my facial place charges a similar amount for just a facial membership...but this location was more convenient. BIG MISTAKE. Bare Necessities is THE facial place in Houston, skip this place and go there. Better products, better service, better skincare, better estheticians. I had Tatiana, I might be spelling that wrong. She walked me to the back and I feel like the facial didn't even start for a good 15 minutes as she tried to upsell me and I told her a couple times no, I wanted to try the member facial to see the bare minimum I would get each month. Bare minimum indeed. The room is dim and she immediately said I had tons of congestion. Funny as my usual estheticians and dermatologist HIGHLY disagree...but I thought, let's see where this goes. She did puck my eyebrows and such and said it wasn't part of the facial, it came out fine. She asked me A LOT about bare necessities and my time there...I assume because she either wants to know the competition or to try and go work there. She also talked to me about about where I lived and pricing. She started off with a cleanser and a facial massage, asked me about the pressure and it was indeed fine for a facial massage. But I did not realize that every step would be that pressure, including the warm towel being pressed against my eyes and dragged. The steam at one point was so close and hot to my skin it felt like it was burning, which I've never had before. She did a honey mask on me which she also said was not apart of the facial so at this point of barely doing anything to my face, I'm wondering if the facial is just cleanse, extractions, and lotion. At my other place it's nonstop treatments for an hour + massage. While waiting for the mask, you can hear the timer ticking and no massage really. I did get a 1 minute combined (if that) massage on both hands. The extraction was scary, because this is someone who clearly doesn't know how healthy extraction goes or how that tool is intended. She took the tool and HARD scraped it all over my face. There were parts it was so hard, and I did tell her it was too hard half way through this...that i was scared after a year and a half my filler my move. I've been getting facials monthly since I was 15, I'm 34 now. This was in my top 3 worst facials ever maybe only topped by the one who took off a mole and I had to go to a specialist because it got infected. I'm a big skincare buff and this was a nightmare. I still tipped because I believe heavily in tipping for any service oriented person but I immediately emailed their spa and member services about the experience and to cancel my membership, this was on Tuesday. The owner did call but I was in a meeting, she did not leave a voicemail so I only know who that call was because the member email told me she did. I never got confirmation of my cancellation and I've been asking since then for confirmation, which I have not gotten. I have not received anymore calls although after being asked, let them know when best to call me. I told them I'm not longer interested in talking to anyone, I just wanted it cancelled. I didn't even plan to write this but we're here now. Lastly, good luck with parking. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO BETTER SPAS. So I'm not one to leave negative reviews often. I'd much rather share good experiences on Yelp and deal with negative ones directly with a business. However, I want to issue a fair warning to others regarding this spa. We found this place on Groupon back in February, before COVID was big in the US. I purchased a couples massage voucher and gifted it to my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Then COVID hit. I will say I was appreciative of Hiatus extending the expiration date because we couldn't get in during the pandemic. Unfortunately that's where the good part of my experience with this business ends. In September, we were feeling comfortable enough to redeem the couples massage knowing that businesses have COVID precautions in place. So we called to schedule. Everything went fine, but then a couple of days later we got a call to reschedule our appointment to 20 minutes later, due to a "staffing shortage." We said no problem. A day or two after that we got another call to reschedule the time yet again. Again we said no problem. Finally, two days before our appointment, they asked if we could reschedule the day of the massage. We were told there were no weekend openings within the next month. Because we both have jobs and their latest weekday appointment was 3 pm, we asked to be called back for a new appointment in October. I will say here too, it is very annoying to try to change plans during a weekend just because a massage appointment is continually moved around. So then, when we called in October, we were told for the very first time that they weren't going to give us a couples massage and were going to book us back to back. Why didn't they tell us this the first time we scheduled? If you're providing a service different from what I purchased, you need to let me know. Personally, I had no desire to schedule back to back. I bought a couples massage for a Valentines gift. Not two separate massages. Plus I didn't want to sit in their waiting room or parking lot for an hour while I waited for my partners massage to be done. This is when the receptionist took down my name and number and said she would call us back at the end of October to schedule a couples massage. Today is November 5th and I still had not received a call. Frustrating. So I called again. This time, Jasmine informed me that they aren't doing couples massages due to COVID. I am completely understanding of COVID precautions, but I was beyond annoyed with the complete lack of professionalism by their receptionist staff. If you aren't doing couples massages due to COVID, say that. We would have just done the back to back in the first place in September rather than still dealing with this in November. If you schedule someone, make sure you have availability during that time so you don't have to call more than 3 times to schedule a different day or time. If you plan to provide a different service than what someone purchases, it is your responsibility to disclose that in the first place. If you promise to call back, do it. I had had enough, so I ended up getting a refund through Groupon to use for a voucher at another spa. Hopefully the experience there is better. Unfortunately, a coworker had purchased this same Groupon from Hiatus and had the exact issues with scheduling as we did, though she said the massage itself was great. As a birthday present this year, I received the spa package that included the full body massage, a one hour facial, and mani/pedi. I didn't partake in the mani/pedi as the manicurist doesn't offer services for acrylic nails (I have overlay), but I did partake in the massage and facial and absolutely loved both. The full body massage was divine. The masseuse inquired about my pain areas, which areas to pay more attention to, and which areas to avoid. She allowed me to choose my essential oils based on what I needed (relaxation, stress relief, energy, etc), and I never felt more relaxed. The facial was also divine. Luce is super sweet, gentle, and very knowledgeable about facial skin and products. It was my first ever facial, and she made me feel completely calm and trusting. She also convinced me to upgrade to the mini peel, and I'm very happy I did. My skin has never looked so clear and radiant. read more
