Worst experience membership wise I've ever had. Massage quality are fine but you have try out a few first. Unfortunately once you find someone you like they usually leave. High turnover. As far as the membership during the pandemic the Monkey Junction location was concerned they were completely unreasonable. One employee said I could cancel early on and they refused to honor once the quarantine started. Then to freeze it every few months it was a constant debate over their "safe practices" versus my not feeling safe coming in to the spa for a massage. Scientists were telling us to social distance but apparently Monkey Junction didn't get the memo. In short I'm having to pay out the remainder of my membership there even though my address is over 20 miles away. I just miss the 20 mile mark from Myrtle. Sending cash. Still figuring that one out. They don't take checks. Don't sign up or give them your credit card ever. I'd suggest paying one visit at a time if you choose to go there. read more

No appointments available, ever and when you do make an appointment it's cancelled. You can"t cancel membership or you will lose all your built up sessions. I booked an appointment online three weeks in advance, I received a phone call two days ahead of time telling me that they could no longer do my appointment because I was only booked for a 60min massage and they have to maximize their schedule so unless I could do a 90min one then I can't have that time slot. Hanging up on a client when asked to be transferred to a manager, then denying the hang up. As well as they have a few masseuses on staff that I'm not even sure how they are licensed their so bad. When front desk is informed of the quality of their personnel, a dainty and insincere "sorry". Definitely cancelling my membership after being a member for several years. Kelly remains the only decent employee at this location. Old review: Fantastic staff. Scheduling is sometimes a little rough but they're normally no top of their game. Very pleasantly surprised with my visit to this location. I have had less than great experiences at a couple of massage envys (on the west coast & in Atlanta area). I was greeted by very polite front desk staff , offered water & paperwork to fill out. Johnnie was my massage therapist & he was very strong and good at deep tissue work. He listened to my concerns & requests for concentration in certain areas. After the massage I was of course given the sell for membership as I checked out. I politely declined as I don't like being locked into anything. If someone gives you a gift certificate for massage envy or if your curious about checking it out, then I recommend the monkey junction location for friendliness of staff and quality of Johhnie's massage if you require deep tissue work. read more

COMMUNICATION?! The massage was good, he was super nice. We got a gift for a massage for our anniversary. Apparently it's a transfer ( they explained that someone transferred a massage to us) so I booked a 90 minute and my husband booked 60 minute. Of course they try to sell you the membership there. Personally I go to Prima day spa, it's more personal and everyone is very kind, they remember you and your needs. Anyways I check in( I check over my information), do the massage, then they try to sale me on the membership again. ( I get it, sales) I said no I just want to put a tip on my card. She says it's 23 as well. I ask why she said you were gifted an hour massage not 90 minute. I said why didn't they tell us when we booked?! Then charged me? Why didn't you say anything when I checked in as well and/or when I went over my information?! I said I want to tip my guy( he was great) she said okay charged my card. I said don't I have to sign something. She says no I already authorized it ( of course that should have been a red flag to me ‍) didn't give me a receipt and she charged me the tip and the 23. Granted it's 23 but I REALLY don't agree with the sneakiness and hidden fees. First and last time. I gave a two because the massage was good but the Hassel and paperwork isn't worth it. read more

I went for a massage in October and got talked into purchasing a membership. Hey, $70 per month is worth it to take care of myself. The girl who sold it to me said she would charge me right away so I could go another time in October. Went to the appt snd she never charged my card. Wtf, I had to pay for that massage. Appointment in December I added a 30 min reflexology. Checked in and the girl told me it would be an extra $15. No worries. I go to pay and im charged $45. The manager checked me out snd I told her if the issues anc her reply was "well, those employees are no longer here". Wtf. Made appointment for January and never received a text reminding me and the they say to me "it's a courtesy text". Wtf. Every other time I had an appt I received a text reminder. Now they are charging me for that appt because I never canceled and never showed up. Wtf. Want to make an appointment for Feb...they have NOTHING available. So, I'm going to pay $70 per month and get NOTHING. The manager in monkey junction is rude and nasty. Can't cancel membership without being charged for the whole thing. They charged me monthly for sessions that I didn't use, my card expired, they emailed me to update (along with the hundreds of ad emails) never telling me they would cancel, or that my sessions would be null and void, and now that I have an appointment on the books, they are charging a cancellation fee. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? They have horrible customer service and charge for services not rendered. $71 same day cancellation fee. Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service. I think this location ran out of lotion and oils. My massage therapist just rubbed my bare skin and didn't apply anything. (I told them I didn't want my face rubbed or any product on my face. "Face" is code for "body". I now know that) I suppose he wanted to use the lotion and body cream that was already on my body from when I got dressed that morning. He smelled like he had just came back from taking a smoke break (and kept coughing during the session). Which was great for me, as I have a history of asthma in my family. Finally, towards the end of the massage, he started to apply the extra essential massage oil that I paid for. It made me wonder if the sheets had been cleaned. I left feeling itchy and confused. When I got home I knew I had been bamboozled. It took that long for the shock to wear off. I like massages and I am a big tipper but if I ever want to throw my money away again, I think I'll stand on my balcony and make it rain in the streets for passersby. Worst massage I have ever had. Hands and feet were not massaged just rubbed some lotion on them. Most times enough lotion was not used.Very little on the head and neck. I added the hydrating boost which was an extra $10 and when I asked about it she said it was added into the lotion. Not sure if it was. Nothing special about the lotion. No scent or aroma therapy in the lotion, I guess that is extra too. Don't go by the prices advertised on the website, because those are for a first time customer which I was. I told the therapists to work on my lower back and hip that was tight. . It was a little painful and asked her to ease up. When massaging my thigh she worked one area on the outside too deep.The next day my leg was hurting in the area she massaged and has gotten worse. I did not have this pain in the leg before I went in. I have to go to a physical therapist now to try and get rid of this pain. The way she massaged the outside of my leg seemed odd, so guess it was incorrect. I thought she knew what she was doing. When I was done the receptionist tried to sell me a membership. I told her no but she tried 2 more times! The facility looked clean and up to date but I will not go back nor would I recommend massage envy. read more

Just moved to Oak Island and this is the closest location for my husband and I. We've been here once for a couples massage so far and it was really good. Both therapists were incredible and we left feeling "good sore". Booking appointments is a bit difficult, but that could be a good thing cause it shows there is a desire here or maybe cause they're short staffed, who knows. I have used Massage Envy at Mayfaire in the past. My last massage there was seriously painful, and I ended up with knots in my neck and back that took 3-4 days of chair massage to get out! I received gift cards to Massage Envy, and decided to try the Monkey Junction location.nHope was my massage therapist, and it was the best massage I've had in a long time! I actually left there feeling totally rejuvenated, with zero pain or ache. MJ is the only location I'll go to in Eastern NC now after this first visit there. The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is less pretentious, and there's more parking (a huge bonus compared to Mayfaire on a Saturday!). I would recommend this location (if I had to compare to the Mayfaire location), and definitely recommend Hope. read more

I have had hundreds of massages and this was the worst one I have ever had. I didn't say anything at the time because I kept thinking that the woman was going to turn it around. I have had massages that started out painful, but they got better and worked out. I didn't say anything when I left because I thought it was my own fault for not having said anything during the massage. I wouldn't even write this review now if it wasn't for one fact. A couple of days after the massage I got an email from Message Envy asking me how my massage went. So, I told them. It was painful from start to finish and afterward I was in far more pain than I had been going in. I said I appreciated them asking and where they asked if a manager could contact me I said that would be okay. I was never contacted and I still get tons of emails from them even though I was clear I would never go back. They had an opportunity at least, to try and win a customer back. They didn't even try. The drafts out of my account stopped and I did not receive anything from Massage Envy. Now, they have been calling me and threatened to put me into the credit agency because I am 3 months late. Public service announcement of the day!!!!! Pay attention people. MASSAGE ENVY is a rip off. They suck you in and pressure you to sign a 12 a month contract then when you try to cancel they say ....oh you can freeze it for 3 months. Ok so I did that. Then go to cancel and they tell me because I froze my acct I have to pay for another month. WHAT I met my 12 month obligation and now you want another month! Oh and I had 2 accounts one for me and one for Randy. Well massage envy this may be your policy but you do a POOR job of informing your potential customers. And the "statement" you sign says "nothing" about having to pay an additional month after you unfreeze. Oh and the only reason I froze it to begin with was so not to lose my prepaid massages which I now don't seem to have" Beyond pissed!
