Andres Valdez was my therapist at Massage Envy-North Miami for almost 10 years. He has the most amazing healing hands. The other therapist that I used was Alex who is also very Good. I was originally at the Pembroke Pines location since 2008, and eventually started going to North Miami. I usually had a massage at least once a month. I sent my family and friends to see Andres. I recommended people to Andres and bought gifts cards for people to see him. I've been asking for almost 2 months where he is and everyone was playing crazy. Today I hear there was some corporate decision made, and he was let go. That is absolutely unbelievable he is an amazing person and one of the best massage therapist I've had. I'm not sure when the corporate structure took over but over the past few years everything seems to have declined. The ambience (there really isn't any anymore) and the maintenance of the place is not the same. The recent and continuous corporate changes have changed the entire operation. The the worst part is that everything seems to boil down to making money . They now have a system for leaving tips for the massage therapist that requires the customer to pay a fee to leave the tip. That seems insane to me. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was that for almost 20 years they've called the day before to confirm appointments. I had an appointment scheduled and had not noticed, and did not receive a call. When they called me at the time of the appointment, they told me that the policy had changed and that corporate had directed that the front desk was no longer to make those calls. They also didn't advise of the change.I wish "corporate" well because you need a heart to go with all the corporate brains, and without it, these kinds of corporate policies can end this business. read more

In my opinion, Massage Envy, has never been known for having the best therapists. The massages are just OK and you can get an appointment in a pinch, which is good. But consistently it's normal to not expect a "great" experience. At this location, had the unfortunate experience to get a massage service from Pilar. This therapist wears gloves and has other weird requirements. Throughout the service, thought I had a robot working on me. Plus, she barely massaged. Instead, she just kept spreading more oils. Frankly I could not wait until it was over. Pilar should not be a massage therapist. Sorry. Put her at the front desk instead. By and far, one of THE WORST massage treatments I have ever had. It took a couple months to try to cancel my membership with the North Miami location, so I lost a couple hundred dollars. None of their appts are for as long as scheduled. They are always cut short. I was trying to use up the rest of my appointments after canceling membership and scheduled a facial for today but last night started feeling sick and woke up with nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal pain. There's no way I can make appt so I called to cancel. I was advised I would have 30 minutes taken away from my next appointment. I should have just kept appt and vomited there. I am a 2 year member and have not had a negative until now. While on vacation this week I scheduled an appointment for a facial. At the day of my Apt. I was told I needed to leave a copy of my drivers license with them. When I called to explain I don't feel comfortable doing that and I had not received a request for this in the past two years. I then spoke to a manager named Rae at the Sarasota North location. She told me it was the law. I tried to tell her there's no law and she yelled over me that it's a new law. Waste of money. After three days I already felt that I needed another massage. I ask for deep tissue and was given a senior for a massage therapist. Then when I asked for more pressure from the therapist, she did it for about 5 minutes and then resorted to giving me a light massage. The manager told me that "everyone's idea of deep is different". If I am asking the therapist for more pressure I am plainly telling her that her concept of deep isn't deep enough. The only thing management could offer me was a discount on the next service. I went to the trouble to book three massages for a visit to Miami in celebration of a friend's birthday. It's not easy finding three appointments at The same time, so I booked these more than two months out. Two and one half weeks before our trip, this location called to cancel my appointments with the excuse that two of the therapists we booked would not be in that day. Thats all. Too bad for us. They offered nothing. It's now too late to book anywhere else. Of course, there was no manager available to speak with. The massages I've received have been great and deserving of 20% tips on the full amount. The reason I'm giving 3 stars has nothing to do with the masseuses. I have had a few issues with this franchise location due to poor sound quality and communication. Sound quality: the spa is directly below a gym and the dropping of heavy weights completely changes the ambiance. There is nothing that can be done about this, so be warned. I was given two free upgrades because it was so loud on my first visit... which brings me to my second gripe with this place: Communication: I attempted to use the two upgrades (aromatherapy & rapid release) two visits ago. I called to confirm when I booked and then went through my appointment without either... so heads up if you have an upgrade make sure to tell the front desk person immediately before you see the masseuse, and remind the masseuse as well. I confirmed tonight's appointment via automated text yesterday. I showed up on time and once inside I was told that my card on file didn't go through last month and I would need to put a new card on file for tonight's appointment. Why was I not informed when the card was declined? Why wasn't my session cancelled before the time it was to start? The front desk person could not answer these questions. I did not have a card on me and so I was not able to have my session, which is poor practice as it negatively affects the masseuse who missed out on $$. Well...what can I say ..I got the short straw and got Sandra. This was the worst Massage that I ever received in my life!! And I have had thousands of them. She not only insisted that I talk in Spanish. Which I told her that I spoke a very little. She was all over the place and the massage was like a kindergartner just learned and at several points during my hour and a half- she would rub really really slowly until she would stop mid rub - she fall asleep!!' And would wake up and do it again. This lasted several times where I was just ready to go. When she was done she asked todos bien...to which I replied No. I went to the front door and complained. He rudely said "last door on the right", when I got there he said nothing, just closed the door behind me. I was confused, needing instructions but had nothing. When it came time for the massage, he said absolutely nothing. Making sure I'll never come back, he was extra rough. There was even a point in time where his hand slipped and hit me on my head. It's difficult to review Massage Envy because they have a lot of turnover. Like all of the locations, they pressure you (haha, pun intended!) to sign up for their monthly service. If you are very into massages, it's not a bad deal, but it's really unpleasant to get that pressure after you are blissed out from the massage! The staff here is friendly and professional. I have had OK massages and fantastic ones. In the middle of one massage, the therapist stepped out to take a phone call; needless to say, that was a big bummer. Loisbel was a lousy therapist. I got out of the massage swollen in face, nauseous, and my herniated disc had flared up. When I told him I had one, he scoffed and told me that wasn't a big deal. I tried to get him to adjust his pressure and he barely did a thing. It's horrible to have a massage and think to yourself "I'll grin and bear it". I ended up giving him a cash tip of 20% my service ONLY because I felt pressured by checkout. Come to find out the person who booked my massage also paid over the phone AND tipped! First they started charging me for another person's membership to my card in addition for charging for my membership. Then it took months to clear the mistake even though the mistake was on their side. While attending this issue in person, I submitted the cancellation of my membership renewal. Now 3 months after my membership was supposed to be cancelled , I'm finding the charges again. It is like an ever lasting nightmare. I was told by Esmeralda that I could have my husband come and take my place for the massage because I am a nurse and couldn't get out in time. I called him to verify, called her back and said he was on the way. She said nothing else. Upon his arrival, he was told by Yesenia that he had to buy a membership. He said he didn't want to do that. He called and told me and I called and spoke with her and she told me a lie saying she offered to call me and take care of the transfer while he gets his massage. That conversation did not happen. The couples massage we received was so, so wonderful and the catered attention we received was outstanding. And then came time to pay and leave, and we were badgered to effing death to make it a monthly thing. "We have a deal where you can pay $60 monthly and receive 1 massage every month. Would you like to do that?" No, thanks. This was just a special occasion type thing. "Well why? Why don't you want to make this a recurring thing? Didn't you enjoy it? What's stopping you from doing it?" This wouldn't go with our monthly budget. "Well what can I say to make you want to do it? You see it's cheaper if you become a member and buy a bundle than if you were to walk in as a non-member." Yeah it just wouldn't work out. It was for my wife's birthday only. We can't afford monthly massages. "Well tell me what you didn't like and why I can't get you to sign up?" At this point I was completely appalled at how much she was pushing and badgering us, especially after stating that we can't afford monthly massages. As soon as I walked in, the front desk associates immediately welcomed me with a warm hello and offered me my preference of either water or cookies. They have a beautiful tranquility room that helps the guests sink in to relaxation mode and for what is yet to come. Before my one hour massage session I was informed about how the session would be broken down and to keep in mind to have open communication with my therapist at all times. Preferably I chose a female therapist but I'm sure the male therapists are just as amazing. I had a massage with Ari and she pin pointed exactly where I was having pain. While laying down on the table all of my worries went away as if I had kicked off my shoes and let the ocean waves take me away. Well well. So I tried this place out since I just moved to the area and needed a massage ASAP. They were really nice on the phone as well as when I came in. They took me into a little seating area and had a short conversation with me about what my problem areas were and also what I like and don't like. I definitely appreciated that. So they had a deal for newbies it was one hour for 55$. They told me on the phone to come in early to make sure they can have this conversation with me. My appointment was at 1 at that was exactly the time I was in the massage room. So far so good. My massage therapist came in and asked the same questions one more time that we don't have any misunderstandings which I also highly appreciated. We started the massage at 1.10 and I did feel a little rushed through it. When she was done and I checked the time it was 1.46? So now I was a little surprised and confused so I asked my therapist if I misunderstood the hour and it was just half an hour but she said no. So when I went to the front it was 1.51. Clearly not an hour. I did tell the front desk about it and they did give me a ten dollar discount. After all that's fine. But it wasn't about the money it was really that I needed the massage badly and I was willing to pay any price at that moment to get a full hour. She explained to me that the first five minutes include a short talk with the therapist and me getting undressed. Which still didn't make an hour. Either way. I still tipped my therapist 10$ because I'm from the service industry and I just wouldn't do that to her. But as a first time promotion I would just expect a little more effort if you want to keep customers. Would I go back? Most likely only if it's a last minute situation.
