GINA is great and provided one of the best massages I've had, but I hate that she has to work in such an unprofessional location. I am writing this review from the parking lot because that's how upset I am I had an appointment scheduled with my mom but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to reschedule. She still hasn't gotten her massage but I went this morning and was so excited because I have been traveling nonstop as of late. I arrived in enough time to get any paper work done prior to my massage time, but no one was in the lobby nor came out to greet me for about 10 minutes. By the time my massage started it was close to 9:15 & I was already dressed and ready by 9:55 for an hour massage. Now here is where my experience from "sugar to shxt". My brother had already prepaid for my massage and spoken with a manager by the name of Talia when things needed to be rescheduled . Talia advised him that everything was all set and she put the "points" on my account. I explained this to Sylvain* who kept telling me I owe $145 and they don't take payments beforehand so I don't know what I'm talking about. I proceeded to show sylvain the call log showing their phone number on 1/27 when Talia advised she had it all worked out. Also showed the screenshot of the payment that was processed on 1/27. Sylvain still told me that was not right and that it was " a scam Or something". I continued to explain all of this to him and he called Talia who advised him that she is on vacation. 20 minutes later he is still telling me that there is nothing prepaid and the amount we paid isn't even how much a massage costs etc. So he continued to belittle me and act as if I was making things up, only for Talia who advised "remember" the situation 30 minutes into this debacle. He then tells me i can now leave and she will figure it out. The relaxing experience I thought I was going for not only cut short but complete 180 because they treated me with such disdain and unprofessionalism. Have to do this to help others! But not surprising all these negative reviews. Avoid this location at all possible costs!!! Less than an hour before my appointment -- which was a joint appointment with a friend planned well in advance -- I get message that my side of the appointment was cancelled. No real apology. No effort to try to rectify the situation. The manager couldn't even afford me the most simple of courtesies to give me a call to explain -- despite the poor girl at the front desk asking her to do so. Seemed like the woman before me had the same experience but she didn't even get the courtesy of a call so she showed up only to find her appointment cancelled. I had a membership for many years and went to the Dedham location and canceled for personal reasons about 2-3 years ago. My best friend was in desperate need of a massage and booked at the norwood location so I booked as well. I was quoted $85 because it was more than a year since my last visit. My bestie had a horrible experience because the therapist didn't focus on her needs. She has a bad knot in her shoulder. She asked several times for him to focus on what was bothering her. He ignored it. I was lucky and had the same therapist I had at the Dedham location so my session was great. When I walked out to check out my bestie was very upset because she didn't get what she needed. So we pay for our services and leave. When I got to the store down the street I noticed I was charged $145 not $85 as quoted. I called and explained that I was told $85 because it was so long since my last visit. I was told a manager would get back to me. That didn't happen until I respond to the request for a review. The manager told me she would not give me a credit because I was had been there in the past. I told her no problem and to keep the money and I will look elsewhere for my next massage. I loved the massage but the follow-up on my issue was horrible. I don't do business where I'm not respected. Ive been going to the Newton location regularly for many years (I was a happy and loyal customer) but earlier this year the Newton location was closed and they transferred our membership to this Dedham location. The difference is night and day. My experience collaborated all the negative reviews here on Yelp. The front staff and manager are rude and unprofessional. They don't listen to feedbacks and lie and turn around to attack you. The worst experience ever! I feel bad for our massage therapist, who is wonderful and best we've found but I'm not going back. The management is horrible to deal with and the ownership ignores any complaints. While the massage therapists vary greatly in abilities and responsiveness, some are very good. What is maddening is they have called 15 minutes before a scheduled massage to cancel. At least that manager apologized. Recently a person on the phone suggested a couple's massage when I called for appointments. They really pushed me to try it. They had to give me a different time than what I asked for to accommodate both my husband and I, and make it a 90 minute instead of the 60 minute I requested. Two days before the massage they call and try to confirm two separate massages at different times. When requesting an explanation, the manager was very rude and denied any responsibility. "I wasn't there", "I don't know who changed it", "I don't know why no one returned your call yesterday when you asked for an explanation,". When I asked for the owner's info, she didn't want to give it to me. "This doesn't concern them." I finally got a phone number and later left a lengthy message to explain my frustration asking for a call back. They never returned my call. They say anything to convince you to be a monthly subscriber but the customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. Beware!!! read more

This location is the worst. After relocating from another part of Boston, this is the closet location to my home. However it is near impossible to get an appointment and when you get in, the front desk personnel are not that welcoming. Just had an issue with my account (which needed to be isolated due to a stolen credit card). I called my "home " location and updated my information, but the front desk folks at this location took it upon themselves to cancel my appointments. They had left me a message saying i needed to update by end of day to avoid cancellation-- yet went ahead and cancelled me even though i updated my information. Biggest mistake I ever made was subscribing for a membership--they take your money but you never really get to use your credits. So I am stuck in a situation where I have all these credits for massages, but can't actually ever use them. Great business model-- take out money and never have to deliver on services. read more

The other day I stepped off the plane with a kink in my neck and shoulders. I live out in the west coast and I have their monthly membership, so I decided to give them a call and schedule an appointment with whoever I could get last minute. Now I was a bit skeptical not only because the reviews here are not so good, but also because you never know how good a massage you're going to get with anyone who isn't your regular therapist. Let me just say that not only was the staff friendly and courteous, my massage with Joann was great! She applied the right pressure based on what she could feel, and really worked out the knots in my neck and the tightness in my shoulders and back. I've been going to this ME on a bi-monthly schedule with my girlfriend for the better part of a year and every time I go there there is always a snag in my paperwork or the therapist I booked isn't in or we've booked a couples massage and"they missed that" and have individuals set up. Our most recent visit, which I booked a bit more than a month out, was supposed to be a couple's massage and I got to do the same paperwork again. This time on an i-Pad. They got a new software for their scheduling and our couple's massage didn't copy into the new system as a couples massage. I guess they did not bother to test the software completely or to double check to see if all got copied over right. After the individual massages I was checking with the desk clerk to ensure our next massage, in 2 weeks, was all set. The therapist that was scheduled for me is out of town that weekend and they knew about this, but failed to tell me about it. When I spoke with the manager she was not helpful and almost to the point of being rude. I realize that this site is very busy but, damn, the customer service I've been getting there is just not acceptable, even for the McDonalds of the Massage industry. She listens to you and your body and checks in throughout the session. If I could see her every day my life would be complete but I'd settle for once a week. I have been a member of the Dedham Massage Envy for over 10 years. Initially, the staff and therapists were wonderful and I went often. Life and Covid has gotten in the way of me being able to treat myself, so when I was finally able to make a couples massage for me and my fiancé a month ago, we were both really looking forward to them. Today, the day of my massage, at 1pm, I got a call from them saying that my therapist, Seema, wasn't able to come to my 5:30 hour and a half massage. I was really disappointed but said fine, and made sure that my fiancé's appt was still happening for and hour and a half at 5:30, which the incompetent person on the phone confirmed. They were late to come and get him at the door, and 50 mins later, the therapist was finishing up. So from 5:30-6:20 was the "hour and a half" Massage?? This is ridiculous, and further insult to injury, he said that the therapist did a horrible job and the last ten minutes of the session she just moved his feet around. Is this really how you run your franchise? I am furious because not only did we not get what we wanted, it took a month of planning ahead because you never have any availability! read more

Recently I saw an ugly confrontation between a client and the manager. I did not know exactly what was going on but ran into the woman later across the street in Panera and don't blame her for being upset over the handling of the situation. Basically the Dedham location has gone downhill. The woman's concern was over repeated requests to management to ask clients to be "tranquil" in the Tranquility room. Someone is always in there talking, making phone calls etc. or the therapists make loud announcements when they come to get clients and I agree that the staff do nothing. The manager handled the situation unprofessionally. I also agree with other reviewers that Massage Envy does not deal with client concerns in an effective or timely fashion. Before this incident I was not going to renew my membership and this just solidified my decision. This is a chain and it operates on a subpar "chain-like" level. They also don't have the most experienced therapists but they also don't pay them what they could make with more experience in the private spas or private practice. Sheesh, where to start with my "experience," or more aptly stated, my DEBACLE, with Massage Envy Dedham. On October 31st my girlfriend ordered a gift card for me from Massage Envy's website, www.massageenvy.com. Her card was charged yet neither of us received a confirmation e-mail of this order. We checked our Spam filters and determined without any doubt that there was never an e-mail sent. Fine, no big deal. I made a phone call to Massage Envy three days later after not hearing anything regarding my order. After a conversation with Alyssa, who quickly came to the grave conclusion that my order does not exist and that there's "nothing they can do," even after being told that my girlfriend and I had a statement from the Bank showing a $75 payment to Massage Envy with a transaction date of 10/31 and a post date of 11/2, I was put on the line with another girl -- not Kirstie, the apparent manager, who never seemed to be available to speak to. It was again reiterated that "there was nothing they can do." Pressing on with, I was able to get her to find it in their "global system," and put a NOTE next to it so that a future employee could find the proof of payment when I made my appointment. On 11/5 I went into the franchise physically to book an appointment for massage and spoke to a very polite and friendly girl who again said they can't find the proof of payment so I would need to bring in a bank statement showing the payment and I'd be fine to show up for my massage appointment. Obviously, this was not what I wanted to hear -- particularly because I had been told with certainty by an apparent customer service supervisor that I was "all set." On 11/6 my girlfriend sent the bank statement to info@massageenvy.com who quickly confirmed the payment and sent me a gift card. GREAT, I thought, this would be the end of my woes! So I immediately make a phone call to the Dedham franchise where I have an appointment made for Saturday at 3pm and am quickly told by Alyssa that I'm all set, they managed to find me in their system (WTF??!?!!??!) and that I could just show up to my massage appointment. Naturally, my confidence was completely broken at this point, so I made a reasonable request: a confirmation e-mail..... Well, Alyssa indignantly told me that they "don't send e-mails" and they have "nothing to do with the website massagenvy.com" and that "they couldn't find me in their system" and that "there is nothing they can do when customers place orders on massageenvy.com." After repeated attempts to speak to the ostensible manager, Kirstie, my calls were refused ad infinitum. When I asked to simply cancel my appointment, I again could not be given a confirmation e-mail. In reading the reviews for this branch I felt like I was walking into a war zone with disgruntled employees who may or may not want to punch me in the face. Turns out the Boston area Yelpers just enjoy complaining. This location was clean, the employees were friendly, and my massage(booked at the last minute) was relaxing and really helped me to alleviate some stress. To anyone complaining that Massage Envy is a "scam," please keep in mind that you signed the contract and agreed to their terms. If you didn't want the services just move along. The only shady thing about this location is that they claimed to not allow 3 month memberships so I had to call my original branch to renew. Just another membership horror story. These guys are the Two & a Half Men of massage. Bland, basic, unimaginative & borderline rude. 1. Don't expect a good massage with a capable masseuse unless you can book 6-8 weeks in advance with one or two of the long term staff. If you can't you're taking your chances with some pretty unremarkable stuff. 2. They have terrible counter staff. The last time I was in I asked the girl behind the counter about a problem had with my booking she ignored it and kept asking me unrelated questions. Instead of just stopping the payments they continued to charge me. Now they won't let me reinstate my account until I pay for 3 months I didn't use. Giovanna was my massage therapist, who was wonderful and very professional; however, I wish I didn't tell her that I was a nurse and that was part of the reason why I wanted a massage. At the completion of the massage, I went out to the front desk to pay and was berated with a sales pitch about their membership program. I continued to say that I was not interested; however, kept being told that "As a nurse, I need this membership" Defending myself for ten minutes about not wanting to sign up for a monthly membership should NOT be what I have to deal with after getting a massage- isn't the whole point to relax? Because of this, I don't think I'll return to this location, or Massage Envy for that matter. Let me start off by saying that almost every massage I've gotten here has been great, which is why I will give it 3 stars. But nearly every time I go to this location (I have a monthly membership, which I was eager to join after the sales pitch after my first massage, but am now regretting) the front desk staff manages to stress me out or frustrate me. One would think that after a massage, I would drive home peaceful and relaxed. Nearly every trip here though has ended up with some sort of issue between the front desk staff and myself. I scheduled an appointment for a prenatal massage via the online scheduling system. Upon arrival for my confirmed appointment, the staff member at the front desk told me the massage therapist my appointment was schedule with was not prenatal certified, although she was the only person in the scheduling system listed as a prenatal massage therapist. I was told there were not massage therapists available that day and I would have to reschedule. The staff member at the front counter also stated that I needed to make sure I was scheduling with a prenatal massage therapist, otherwise I was putting myself at risk of a miscarriage. Upon receiving unprofessional, inappropriate, and inaccurate medical advice from a Massage Envy employee, I declined to reschedule. I have contacted the Dedham location and the corporate offices multiple times in order to receive a refund for the massage I did not receive and have not heard back in the last three weeks. I almost asked today who hires these people, because they are phenomenal. I've seen Damon, Jimmy and many others over the last year. They have never messed up an appointment and while I've felt the front desk girls weren't ALWAYS super happy to see me, would YOU want to work the front desk all day long? I'm not really worried about front desk report, even though they have been mostly pleasant. The staff were very friendly and welcoming when I arrived and during check-out. The environment up front was clean and well organized. The environment in the room was your typical massage room space, no bells and whistles, but definitely clean and calming. My masseuse Tracey was AMAZING! Not only was she warm and easy to talk to, but she really paid attention to my specific pain and focused on the areas where I needed the most relief. She checked in with me throughout the process to make sure I was comfortable, understood everything, felt heard and offered helpful information and tips. She can definitely go deep into the muscle if you want, but also provides a relaxing touch. I would highly recommend Tracey for your next massage if you want it to worth your while. Imagine my surprise when I showed up today for a 3pm appointment, and they tell me that he is no longer there. I regret purchasing a massage envy membership. I cannot wait until I can cancel it! Having a monthly appointment to get a massage sounds like a great way to engage in self-care, in theory. However, they are difficult to work with and when I tried to transfer my hours to my mother as a birthday gift, I was given an excuse about how their policy did not allow it. I paid the monthly fee for my membership although covid temporarily shut down all businesses for 10 months. When they re-opened I tried to gift my appointment to my mother who has not left the house in months. The manager was unhelpful and refused to assist or accomodate my need, but had not problem accepting my payment each month. Everyone seemed to be working together and each employee was smiling. Surprisingly, you dont see that too often anymore. The woman behind the desk was very helpful and explained to me the way a new member's first massage works. She was clear and thoughtful of my budget, not pushy or vague. I purchased three massage gift certificates. Two have been able to use them so far and they were raving about their massages. Last visit was about a month ago. Had a 90 min with Mari and couldn't be happier with that appt! As a member for 9 years (record at this location I believe) I've had my fair share of great and ok-ish therapists in many different locations (MA, RI, NY, FL) but I can confidently say every employee at every location was professional, patient, and kind with me. Dedham is no exception. There's no way I would still be a member and paying monthly for 9+ years if it was anything less than a luxury experience from the moment I walked in until I left. The reason I decided to comment was because I was so impressed with my most recent visit. The consistency this company maintains with my experience deserves commendation. To the customers that had less than a great experience with any part of the company, I am sorry that happened with you. It is a place for relaxation and temporary relief from the everyday stresses of life. As a medical student about to obtain my MD in 6 months, I have little free time for self care so I make the moments count. What I would recommend to you is that any concerns be brought to the attention of the site manager as well as regional(?) manager. My experience is not an anecdote; 100+ visits show that. I always request gender, what pressure or style massage I am looking for, and sometimes any unique techniques each therapist offers. Bed warm or off, music louder or softer, one muscle or full body, conversation or just silent meditation. I insist on this being an experience tailored to me. To the Dedham location and sites in general, you may not be able to change their initial perceptions of Massage Envy but you have every opportunity to improve it and impress them the next time (if they give you the chance). Obviously, you are capable if I am still a member since Dedham opening. For a person to budget any amount of money to luxury services in today's economy is not something to take for granted. At the same time, I believe that more people become aware that investing in something like massages is so important for their well being. For me, they are a crucial component of maintaining my health as a medical professional. Student loans only go so far. So do a better job next time and accept no less from yourself. So give it another go if you were unsatisfied. Make it known to the staff of your past experience. This is about you and your needs, trust me, everyone will leave happier for that. I have now been a member to this location for 6+ months. I am very familiar with the costs and offerings available in the area for massage and other care. Massage Envy (whose owners also own the Norwell, Wellesley, Brockton & Quincy facilities) in Dedham offers an amazing deal for anyone who needs frequent massage. I go 2x per week and book in advance for convenience as well as wanting to get my desired massage therapist. Though I have found several that are wonderful! (i.e., Kristen, Leche, Doug, Lady). I do feel bad for the therapists as they must rely heavily on tips since the prices of the massages cannot be leaving them with much of a pay check. I do love the good deal though and try to tip well. It's still way cheaper then going anywhere else for half of the amount of times in a month. As far as the front end? They have improved somewhat over the months. I have had a couple of unnecessary rude interactions (I'm pretty easy to get along with). I've also had many more good interactions with the same people and others. Colleen is exceptionally good at the front desk. I know that the front desk did not have me convinced to join on my 1st visit. It was the massage therapist (Lisa). I am not one for pushy anything. Maybe they should let people know that they will be speaking them about membership after the massage and let the experience speak for itself. Let the therapist answer questions as well? read more
