I got a gift certificate and was looking forward to it, but after asking for a simple relaxing massage I was left with painful bruises larger than the size of my hand that lasted for a week.When I approached the management with my concerns, the owner (who lives in Las Vegas, not locally) was dismissive and said it was "normal" to experience pain and bruising after a massage. I am usually very chill about bad experiences - I don't expect perfection from the world, and if the massage had just been mediocre or even slightly bad, whatever. I have a membership and have gotten massages from Christopher, Matan, Alessandro, Fred. Everyone is so kind, professional, and strong. They all have different techniques, but I sleep like a baby for 8 hours after going to Christopher, which hasn't happened in 7 years. You'll end up finding your favorite provider for your specific need, if you experiment. Christopher is so strong and works my problem areas like I'm a military tank. I need someone who isn't afraid of deep pressure on my 96 pound frame. Matan is sweet and is working on getting his physical therapy license, and Alessandro has piano hands; he has great transitions and finesse and incorporates pressure points, craniosacral, and trigger point therapy. Fred is the most experienced of them all with decades of practice, and I think he did acupuncture at one point so he knows the body well, and his hands are very strong too. Fred also does stretching. Everyone I mentioned has been kind and professional and never once did I feel scared of being a female with a them, since they all used tight draping techniques. They all treat their practice seriously and after having memberships and getting massages at other places, I'd say this has been the best value for me, and it's been life changing and grounding for me during times of immense stress and cognitive overload. I also like that they use lotion on me and not oil, so I'm not a greasy mess when I leave! I plan on keeping my membership for as long as possible. read more

I called to cancel my appointment the day before, but was still charged, I have spent hours trying to get it fixed. Multiple call and messages for the manager. The front desk keeps telling me that the manager will not return any calls. That it is my responsibility to call when they are in the office (which is only a few hours once a week) I have never seen such a poorly run office. When your employees make an error you should be willing to call the customer to correct the situation. As soon as I use up my credits I will be cancelling my account. read more

This review isn't about the quality of the facials and massages, but rather the management. I've never come across a more poorly run business. I had placed my account on hold during covid and pregnancy and never received any communication from management that my account was taken off hold. I was charged a membership fee for a few months without being notified. When I complained, they told me that according to their records, they had called me. I received no such calls. I tried to escalate it to the manager at the time, Bradley (he seems to no longer be there because when I tried emailing him a few weeks ago, it bounced back). Bradley said he would escalate it to his supervisor, but never let me speak directly to them. At the end I was just told that because the front desk said they called me, I'd have to accept that. The front desk staff is very poorly trained. When the goleta location closed, this location was just not able to understand how to handle transferring credits from goleta to santa barbara. For almost 6 months ever time I called, it was the same issue - they couldn't find my credits, I had not "properly" transferred them, etc. I've been to several other locations in the bay area and none of them are as poorly managed and run as this one. I also tried to cancel my membership at the end of September. Obviously I had to call the front desk to cancel. Front desk staff said only a manager could initiate a cancellation. I did not get any communication from the manager until 2 weeks after I called (conveniently just in time to wait until after a billing cycle). After I received the cancellation email, they said it could take up to 10 days to process a cancellation. I've never heard of anything more scammy. My entire family has stopped their membership here because they are also completely fed up with dealing with the staff here. It's a shame because the qualified masseuses and aestheticians are great, but it's so stressful to deal with the front desk staff and management. This business has really gone downhill and I would never recommend it to anyone. read more

She also worked with my friend who one of those appointments was for when she had a conflict in her schedule and appointment. This location of Massage Envy is very poorly managed. I am a regular at my normal location but was in Santa Barbara so i thought i would try it. They really need some training in how to properly treat customers esp. those who have been members for years. The management is just nasty. The people on the phone when you make appts are really snippy and act like they are doing you a favor. I think the bad attitude starts at the top with the management. What an unprofessional, horrible place. If you're on the fence about trying this location, do not waste your money. Go to a real spa. In town. I walked in badly needing to relax... of course, why else do people spend money there. As I walk up to the door, it was blocked by an employee eating her dinner (I get you need to eat, but that's not the place to do it), then there were four employees standing behind the desk just chatting loudly, not doing anything productive, with pop music playing.. in a spa. Then an employee with a very negative attitude and demeanor, handed me a FILTHY iPad (greasy fingerprints all over it... so gross) and told me to complete their forms. Meanwhile, the young staff all hung around chatting like we were in a high school lunch room. I've never been to a spa where this was acceptable behavior. I was getting more and more aggravated, started to get a headache and then just got really disgusted and wasn't comfortable staying or being worked on by any of them. They're "forms" where endless, with ridiculous questions, the music was inappropriate for a spa environment and having the entire staff hanging out babbling and eating in the front area was just unbelievable and too much! If I were the manager, district manager, corporate, or individual owner (if not corporate owned and I will find out the situation and emails will be going out to all), I'd be mortified to find my staff behaving this way. When I told them I was unhappy and leaving, the nasty employee who handed me the absolutely filthy iPad, just gave me her crap attitude and said that I'd still be charged. It's no wonder why the place didn't have any customers and the entire staff was having their social hour. You go ahead and keep my $65 deposit, as it was much safer for you to steal it, instead of getting sick from the uncleanliness. I will be reporting my experience to all parties who will have an interest, including governing boards and agencies. They also never disclosed that I'd be filling out lengthy, somewhat ridiculous questionnaire, or that if I wasn't comfortable with the spa due to lack of cleanliness and professionalism, that they keep your money regardless, without providing the expected services. Complete non-disclosure on their part non performance. Why wouldn't you send a text, or email with a link to complete the questionnaire before an appointment, or at the very least... let the client know on the phone to go online and fill it out? I always get a quality treatment at this Massage Envy (I've been to others). Their therapists do excellent work, and I appreciate they're all really personable. Although I can't afford to join as a member, I do visit fairly frequently, so I consider myself a semi-regular. Location and parking are also easy. My only critique? When their front desk occasionally books me with their Latina therapist who doesn't speak English, they forget to have a translator convey my specific treatment requests. If not for me speaking up and requesting a translator, this would unfairly force her to "freewheel" a generic massage. To be clear, the Latina therapist is superb and I'm happy to have her. But their front desk shouldn't leave her guessing about clients' needs. Overall, a positive experience. read more

I'm extremely fair and always give second chances, and in this instance three chances. Don't believe me? Take a peek at my review star history that has limited one and two star reviews. The massage therapist here at this location of Massage Envy are what deserved this star (besides no option to give no stars), while the front desk and management would receive none. Long story short, I have been going here for 2 years after relocating to Santa Barbara and continuing my membership from my previous location. After moving, the massage price and membership rules changed. Fair enough--since it's a franchise with different city/state and owners, there's going to be variance. I continued going here simply due to my therapist who was amazing and books out a month or two in advance. I had noticed that the front desk workers changed every other month which is never a good sign. Unfortunately, the quality of the front desk became worse and worse regarding their customer service, telephone/computer skills and attendance paid to the customers. Eventually, the ownership was said to have changed, but even worse, a new franchise-wide computer system update caused further chaos that deleted my credit card information and appointments. I came in for an appointment that was no longer showing in their system. I rebooked another appointment for two weeks later and the gal at the front desk said that no payment information was on file. I provided a card at the previous visit and they said that the system says the card is "invalid" which usually happens if a number is typed in wrong. They reentered the digits with no luck. I used a second credit card, finished my massage and they told me that their system is down and I could not book another appointment at that time. When I called two days later, no one answered and I left a message with my aggravation. They returned the call in a timely matter and attempted to fix things. However, I had two hours credit of massages on my account that were no longer there. The "manager" at that time, Kevin, said that he would give me one hour free massage for the hassle--even though I originally had two. I gave in and accepted that because our conversation was already over a half an hour and he had to call me back twice. I went in today for my massage and brought up my one hour of massage credit and the girl at the front desk said "let me look in the notes". It was in the computer as a half an hour instead of an hour. I somehow went from two hours of massage credit to a quarter of that. I mentioned how Kevin had told me an hour and she said he is no longer an employee. Something is extremely disorganized here and instead of making me relaxed, causes me to become frustrated. I will be leaving their business officially. It sounds like several other clients have had the same issues here and at the Goleta location. For $70/hour for a membership massage, I can get better elsewhere. read more

I've been a long-time member at Massage Envy (since 2008) and have booked treatments at both the Goleta and SB locations. This review is with regards to the interaction I had with the manager, Brittany Jourdan and the regional franchisee director, Sarah Alhadithi. I have struggled over the years to get appointment times that fit my schedule, resulting in an accrual of massage "credits". I would occasionally take self-care days from work and book multiple treatments to try to use them up, but these were unfortunately uncommon. I would call weekly and check online for openings, and was frequently told that "regulars" had standing appointments so they couldn't accommodate any times that worked for me. I repeatedly told staff that I work an 8-5 office job and couldn't leave mid-day, but those were typically the only appointments offered. I tried to see what appointments were available even several weeks and months ahead, and was told they didn't have enough therapists staffed to accommodate me. I requested to cancel my membership and asked to get a credit back for my unused massages since I could not get appointment times. I was told it was against their franchise policy to provide a refund back without approval from their regional franchisee director or the owner. Emails back forth spanning a total of 2.5 weeks resulted in the franchisee director telling me that they would in no way refund my unused massages and that I had 60 days to use them, but they'd be happy to extend that another 30 days if needed. Suspiciously a week after my initial complaints to the manager, they magically had staff available for my preferred times. At this point, I'm really mad at the interaction, lack of customer service, and the priority of putting profits over doing the right thing for a long-standing customer. I will do my best to use my unused credits but will be warning anyone looking for a massage to avoid this place like the plague. read more

Kristina the manager helped me out choosing which type of massage I should go with. I like to see what type of massage the staff would recommend depending on what i'm feeling at that time. I got a deep tissue massage from Yogi last week and it was the best massage I've ever had (I go about every 3 months)! I could tell right away he has been doing this for a long time because he knew where and how to apply proper pressure. His energy isn't too rough and felt just perfect! I can't recommend Yogi enough!
