Booked a prenatal massage here and just wasn't overall satisfied with it. The front desk took great care of me, getting me checked in but once I went to the back my massage was pretty good but I paid for a 90 min and a foot scrub that should have added 15 extra mins to my time. I started my massage at 2:50 and got out at 4:08 and that was the time I was at the front desk checking out. Kinda bummed that the music kept going off and on again. Half way through it just stayed off and I could hear people talking in the hallway. My massage therapist was very nice, so I asked her if she could turn on the music again and she said " sure, I don't know why it always turns off" she started it again but within mins it turned off again. I didn't ask again. I tried to relax but had a hard time. I won't be returning to get another massage here. I left her a tip because I felt like it wasn't her fault that the music wasn't staying on but I wish I could have had the full time I paid for 105 mins. Trying a different spa next month. read more

I have been a member of the Santee Massage Envy for years now. I've had good experiences and some not so great experiences. It just depends on the therapist that you get. I have had some exceptional therapists (Karlie, Jenny B, Heather and now Jenny Z). Some others I wouldn't necessarily rebook with. Steven does my facials and he is FANTASTIC. The ladies at the desk were pleasant, but my massage with Nick was a total disappointment. I scheduled a full body massage with firm pressure but after talking to him, I switched to a deep tissue massage - which is what I typically get elsewhere. While it was supposed to be a full body massage with the focus on my back and shoulders, he spent the majority of the time massaging my arms, maybe a third of the time massaging by shoulder area and back and never even massaged my legs or feet! He spent the least amount of time massaging my back and for one technique only got in the muscles deep on one side but not the other and never applied any pressure massaging my lower back. This is the day after, and my shoulders and back don't feel any better or different than before my massage. It was so odd when he said time was up, & he didn't do the full body massage. He didn't speak throughout the massage at all to ask how the pressure was or ask for any feedback afterwards. The overall ambience wasn't very relaxing either. I mentioned this to the lady at the desk as I walked out and she was apologetic, but she just said he was new, asked for any other feedback and offered me another massage with someone else at the new client rate ($85 vs $145). This massage was a gift, and it was my first visit to a Massage Envy. I really wanted it to be enjoyable enough that I'd leave wanting to book another one, but after this failure it's a one & done for me. read more

Numerous times they need to reschedule me, the last time was the DAY OF my anniversary and just today I was rescheduled over the phone this weekend from noon to 330pm. Mind you, the rescheduled appointment call was JUST yesterday. I walk in for today's appointment and deer in the headlights, the front staff doesn't know why I'm here and they say "someone called me and left a message this morning to reschedule me" again?! I am really surprised by the rating on this spot. I had a wonderful experience. I called yesterday and was able to get in last minute, which was not expected but greatly appreciated. The ease of making my appointment was so smooth. When I arrived, Calli was very helpful in explaining everything and giving me the forms. I waited in the Serenity Room until Fidel was ready for me. My massage was excellent. One of the best I have ever had. He was very respectful and had great technique. My experience was so pleasant that I signed up for the Wellness Membership. So I've been here a couple times now, the first time was great. This time definitely not. The guy was late by 15minutes, which was only a pain because I was on lunch break. He smelt of cigarettes which was incredibly unpleasant. It was a very odd beginning of like pinching my skin, which I've had A LOT of massages and never had that done. The rest of the massage was mediocre. And today (the day after) I still have a knot in my back preventing me from sleeping and moving. Not at all worth the $120 or the $40 tip but I didn't have any change just 20s. I do not recommend this place for massages with a purpose. I workout and work a stressful desk job so I carry a lot of stress in my back and shoulders. She worked the knots down and I fell asleep at the very end( (that never happens!) Soooo. I skipped family day at the zoo because I needed to unwind and relax. My stress obviously made my shoulder muscles ache and yes, I have fibromyalgia. When I answered their questions on the form and told them I was a little dizzy (also said I had not eaten breakfast) I was denied my scheduled massage. I needed it so bad. It is the only thing that offers me relief. They said I was having a flare up and that massaging will make it worse - what?! This is how I take care of myself and I have always had fibromyalgia and they have never denied me?! So here I am sitting in the parking lot in tears because I won't get the relief I desperately needed. I wanted to even get a membership because it's so close to home. I've had 4 massages in a month and no one denied me. They understood me and helped me, fibromyalgia and all. I don't get it. I've never had this happen to me. read more

I asked for warm bed and I didn't get. I suppose to get lavender aromatherapy with my package and I didn't get that too. The massage it self was trouble she didn't ask me about the pressure I want or anything. it felt like someone just putting oil and rubbing it on my back. it was a very bad experience with inexperienced lady my recommendation is to close this location too if you don't have good staff. Do not go!!!! such a rip off! This location is constantly a disappointment. I can't remember the last time my husband or I had a decent massage here. In addition... I scheduled a massage for my husband and I at the same time and they called that day to tell me one of the therapist called out. No problem, can I schedule a facial at the same time. sure. we had to hire a sitter and it was a date night for us so it was supposed to be special. We sign in and wait. My husband goes back while I wait. I check 15 minutes after said appointment and they tell me this therapist called out.... how long was I going to sit there before they told me? Then today I purchased products. I got home and realized they were way overpriced (over $200 for 2 products). I called to ask if it was possible to return products I literally bought two hours prior. I'm shocked to see the average review, because I've loved my sessions here. I reinstated a membership on hold due to health reasons and found the Grossmont location was temporarily being housed at this location as well. While it often made for busy times, the staff is great at staggering appointments, so the waiting area never feels overly crowded, check in/out is never more than two people, and it's super easy to get a convenient appointment. The only downside I see is that now that Grossmont is open again, I followed Elizabeth there for massage, and stayed here for Stephanie's facials. I worry I might show up at the wrong location! :) Steph is fantastic! She has done wonders with my 40+ year old skin, and makes product recommendations when I ask--without hard selling, which keeps the appointments relaxed and fun. When iciest started, I had to come every two weeks I loved the results so much! Budget constraints have pushed me back to once per month, but you can use your membership fee on facials, too--and for $70, plus $20 gratuity--so worth the compliments! I even got carded again! I highly recommend this location. It's clean, relaxing, and professional, and the front staff is really kind and courteous as well. I'll keep coming here. I really really really wish there was -star on yelp...I don't even want to give 1 star. I had heard about massage envy for awhile from friends and thewellness program I had always thought it was a bit steep so never went in. For my birthday I received a nice 1 hour massage certificate that included the gratuity. So it was totally free to go in. I had been feeling terrible and my migraines had been back in full force so I decided to try them out. I called and they made me an appointment for 5pm with Janel. I got there early as requested and was pointed into the traquility room...its a nice calming room, with mood lighting, waterfall and calming music. My therapist came in a few mins before 5 got me and took me to the room. We went over what was going on and I got excited and ready for an awesome massage. I had told her that my head and neck was really tight and migrany to please concentrate on those areas. I barely felt her massage, she concentrated on my lower back and arms...and barley even touched my head. Then when she massaged my legs nothing with my feet at all. When she was done a full 10 mins early. I felt worse than when I came in. Upon leaving I was suckered into the wellness program, mostly my thinking it had to get better right? So I signed up....thinking about it later I realized the cost for the services just wasn't worth it. Why was I pauing $59 for a massage a month, when I can find awesome deals through groupon for only $30 massages that are 10 times better. So I called within the 3 day cooling off period of CA consumer law to cancel my membership. The receptionist stated that Corporate didn't honor CA law and that I was pretty much stuck in a year contract. I told her uhh no...I'm canceling my contract within 3 days and by law you have to honor it. She went around and around with me. So I finally just faxed, certified mailed and had my attorney contact them to inform them that in fact I was cancelling my contract. I furthermore contacted my bank to put a stop payment on the charges. What a hassel for such a simple cancellation. I'll definately never use them again, since my situation I have heard more and more friends and family members with similar stories. Its just not worth the time or money. read more

I have been going to the Knot Stop in Hillcrest since they opened. I heard about this place and figured I'd give it a try. Well, I think there are 2 aspects to a great massage...atmosphere and the therapist. The atmosphere was TERRIBLE and the therapist was just OK. First, when I went in I was greeted by a very loud receptionist. I filled out the usual paperwork, then she came over to go over the paperwork with me (typically done by the therapist, not the receptionist). I arrived 15 minutes early, and she got up twice during our conversation to answer the phone. During the questioning, which was running into my appointment time, I finally just said, "he can do whatever he wants". She moves me into the "tranquility room" which was far from tranquil. It consisted of 6 chairs and a water cooler. The chairs were very uncomfortable. The therapist comes to get me and I go into the room. He reviews my paperwork again. I get naked and climb onto the table. Well, the sheets were so cheap that I felt like I was crawling into a box of tissues that you get in a public school (I work for a public school system, so I know what they are like). In addition, the table was hard and uncomfortable. The room was OK, but mostly felt like I was in a doctor's office. I still have my hopes up...here comes the massage. At best, it was OK. Seemed like the kid just got out of school and would have rather been somewhere else...I know I wish I were! Worst part of the whole thing...as I am laying there on the table TRYING to relax, I can hear cackling, laughing, and loud conversation going on outside the door. You would think the therapists would be a bit more considerate as they are walking in the hallways. Upon leaving, the loud receptionist gives me the sales pitch....$59 a month for a monthly 50 minute massage. She tells me that, if I sign up, I will "lock in" the price for one year; if I don't sign up now, the price will fluctuate. I told her I would stick with the place I have been going for several years. She tells me that, if I come back, I will pay the regular price of $98. Are they joking??!! Needless to say, I did not sign up. Here I am at home and I don't even feel like I got a massage. I will stick with the Knot Stop in Hillcrest. They've got it down pat...relaxing atmosphere, convenient hours, excellent therapists who give GREAT massages and whisper in the hallway as to not disturb the people getting massages, and a better membership ($55 a month for a 1 hour massage...no commitment...can "roll over" your massage if you don't use it one month...earn points for free massages, etc.). If you want a massage like one you will get at Massage Envy, go see a student. Oh Well! read more

Nice looking place. Nice receptionist. Nice therapist. Mediocre massage despite the fact that the receptionist told us we had the best two therapists at Massage Envy. My appointment was at 5pm and she must have been low on energy and maybe hungry for dinner. She took every break she could, at times used only one hand. I think they use lotion and not oil, because it didn't feel a pro massage should and the lotion was cold. There a few highlights throughout the massage, but she did have a few signature moves that point to potential if she could bring the rest of the massage to that level. And after my not-very-relaxing massage they tried RELENTLESSLY to sell us a membership while we were trying to leave and go enjoy a birthday dinner. I will not be back. I feel bad writing bad reviews but I have to be honest.. Last night my boyfriend and I had our appointment for a couples massage and we are both really disappointed:( The place is nice and the people are friendly but I'm there to pay for a massage which is why the experience was a bummer. I have had five or six massages before, all Swedish, and my bf had never had one. I figured I'd try out the Deep Tissue this time because we both have been experiencing muscle pains and tension. My therapist, which I think was Ashley? started my massage before my boyfriends therapist LT was even in the room. We both told them DEEP massage and it didn't come even close. I am really bummed. My bf says he didn't know what to expect because he had nothing to compare it to but he and I both barely felt anything. We kept waiting for them to really dig in but they never did. Every massage I've had before was much deeper and they weren't even deep tissue! I honestly don't even feel like I had a massage...my bf could have made a bigger difference at home. To top it off my therapist finished ten-fifteen minutes before his so I was sitting there waiting. When we left my total came to $130 with a suggested tip and they tried to sell us the membership which I obviously am not interested in. I already feel like I was ripped off for the service we got. I don't know if it was because we had one of the latest appointments of the day (7pm-8pm) or if its because its Valentines weekend and they have been busy, but the massage therapists just didn't do as good of a job as they should have. My best friend, who is in my profile pic :) gave me a gift card to Massage Envy for my birthday. I yelped a few locations and Santee had the best rating so I gave it a whirl. I called up, the receptionists were really sweet and professional...ok so far so good. I took the advice of previous yelpers and called to verify my apointment time the next day, and no snag there either. Let me go ahead and say that I was scared, all these terrible reviews! I really thought I was going to get sharp elbowed and rushed out of there so naturally I expected the worst! I made my apointment with Karlie as the previous yelper suggested (thank you Ly!) and my friend (we booked a double) had Tiffany. I opted for a full body massage and my pal got just her back worked on. It was the most relaxing experience of my life! Karlie is awesome! She gave my whole body some much needed attention, perfect pressure, equal amount of time spent on my limbs, my back, my neck... The music was so relaxing, the massage table was nice and warm, her hands were angelic. The room was neat and tidy. She didn't talk much which was perfect for me because I could actually relax and not have to make small talk. My friend said that Tiffany was amazing too. She said she had really strong hands that really worked her kinks out of her back. Today was by far one of the best days of my life. I recommend this place highly. read more

Seems like you guys are just trying to save face on Yelp making it appear you care about your clients when in reality you do not. A business owner would immediately get on the phone the second a review like this is posted to get to the bottom of the problem and find an appropriate solution. I've found in my experience when I've done that people have removed or updated their reviews as I was normally able to get to the bottom of it and find an agreeable solution. Especially if one of my customers had been with me for over a decade! First off I wanted to see Stephanie for a facial. I trust no one else to touch my face. I've had so many fake, sales people in the past trying to sell me a bunch of overpriced garbage for my face that has only caused problems for my skin. Stephanie gives the most amazing advice and tips. I know all of the products I will be buying as soon as my current supply runs out. She let me take some samples home based on my problem areas and they were amazing! Being a stay at home mom of three though, I need to save up and budget for these things as they're not cheap. I love the fact though that she always lets me know what would be beneficial to me like she's truly concerned about me like I'm family. Never does she pressure me or make me feel bad if I can't get what she's recommended that day. It's super frustrating that I have to wait so long to get in to see her though. I know she's amazing so she probably books up fast but I'd love it if she had more availability! I was literally going to cancel my membership when the prices went up but have ONLY kept it because I want to see her! So after this person books at 11:30am apt for Feb 3rd she goes to thank me to end our call. I cut her off and say no I wanted to book a massage also. Who wouldn't try to get multiple things scheduled if a person has FOUR services available? Especially when the person started off that they'd like to make a COUPLE appointments She then books me for a 5pm apt on Sunday 1/20/19. This of course is what they tell you when you sign up for the membership, how easy it is to get seen. Yeah, nope! After waiting 4 days I'm soooooooo excited to finally have my back worked on. Then I realized I never got an email confirmation or a phone call to confirm my appointment. I decide to be proactive and call at 9am to make sure everything is good to go. OF COURSE ITS NOT!!!!!!! The person says I only have one appointment scheduled for 2/3. I explain to her the whole thing and how upset I am. She says let me go speak to the manager. Comes back in the phone and states their must have been some miscommunication and she's sorry and can try to get me Into a different location for a massage that day. I told her that was unacceptable to me and I didn't understand how there was any miscommunication when the person I spoke to you specifically asked me different questions about the appointments such as what type of pressure that I like etc. and even talked about the fact that Alona does not do deep pressure massages. I stated that perhaps they should call the person that got booked incorrectly for 5 PM that day should be called and rescheduled it didn't make sense why I had to forgo my appointment when I booked it at 3:30 the prior Wednesday. At this point I asked to speak to the manager she asked me to hold another person got on the phone I asked them if they were the manager they told me no the manager wasn't in for the day yet so that also means the first person I spoke to lied when she said she was going to speak to the manager. I told her that I was not happy at all and I am most likely going to cancel my membership that I wanted the manager to call me as soon as he or she got in they told me she would give me a call at my phone number that they verified when she got into the office I have never heard from the manager. I am beyond done with this customer service or lack there of in this location. I will do some remaining facials with Stephanie but the rest of my sausages I will be doing at the El Cajon location and once they are done I will be canceling my membership after over 10 years. I don't know what happened to this location that used to be amazing but now clearly someone is greedy. It's all about money and there is zero customer service. I started my member ship at Rancho San Diego store since 2010 I have never had a problem with that store. I moved to santee since 2016 and just the past year I started to have issues with their customer service. In the past 6 months, I have receptionist put down the wrong date for the service no call and charge me full amount because of no show. Twice in 6 months that therapist call the last minute to cancel the appointment . One time, the front desk told me cancellation when I already arrived. Only the second time they offer me a free add on for the next time(about 15 dollars). One time, I did not receive a reminder call and they insisted they did, I missed the appt and they charged me full price. So my point is that how is it fair that if the customer missed the appointment there is full charge but when therapist canceled at the last minute, there was no refund? Santee location has a problematic front desk staff that taking wrong date appointment, not properly inform customer about cancellations, and not provide reminders. With my at almost 10 years membership. I am very disappointed about this location. Therapists are great, you need to look at your front desk staff. read more

I have been a member since 08. I enjoy my bi weekly massages sometimes alone and sometimes with my husband. I love the update they did to the back of the spa where they have a huge couples room, I always make sure to request that one as the other one is too small for my comfort. I have seen a handful of amazing therapists; Erin - amazing firm pressure, her flow is just great I never know when she is getting more lotion. She always leaves me feeling on cloud 9. She is my go to girl. Patty: I saw her two weeks ago and WOW! Talk about attention to the muscles and ones aches and pains. She did the most wonderful leg and arm work I have ever had. I usually focus on just my back but she has changes my view on that. Jackie: She was so great for a relaxing massage. Made me fall asleep. Tiffany: I saw her twice during my pregnancy and she was so sweet and made me feel very comfortable as I wasn't too sure on how a side line massage would go. I have been trying to get in with her since I had the baby but she has been fully booked. Kyla: Good at sports massage, gave me some good stretches and good tips on stretching. Chrissy and Theresa have done the few facials I have received and although I wish they offered more facials services like peels or microdermabrasion, the facial was good for the price and esthetician technique. Haven't purchased any of their products, a little high price for me. Like the recent reviews, front staff is always friendly and professional. They recognize me and other members by name and that makes me feel like a valued customer. Wish they had cucumber water or more a better tea selection but overall you can beat $59 massages with any extra ones being $39. Love my therapists and membership. read more

I have been a client at Massage Envy Santee for about a year now. I became a member to address my skin issues and have regularly recieved facials since, as well as a few massages. I request Ashley Persiani as my esthetician for every facial because I have always, since my first appointment, felt comfortable with her. She is very professional, addresses all of my skin concerns, and recommends products that actually work for my skin type. I have never felt embarrassed by my acne or other skin issues while she is extracting blemishes or examining my skin, which is an example of her professionalism and ability to put clients at ease during their facials. The front desk employees have always been nice, courteous, sometimes funny, but always professional and I appreciate it immensely. read more

My first massage there could not have been better- the therapist was attentive to what I needed and knew well enough to make suggestions- an A-Plus massage. My second visit was the polar opposite- my therapist did not accurately address any of my issues or requests. HOWEVER- without me filing any official complaint (Just the survey) the manager reached out to me to make sure that my future visits would be better. FUCK MASSAGE ENVY and their employees. They want to charge my wife her monthly credit because she forgot she had an appointment due to the fact that we have lives outside of that damn place. They cant even offer to reschedule! This may be the 2nd membership for her that i may have to cancel if they are not willing to work with us, including canceling my mother's as well. I've only been here once and the therapist I had was fantastic. Karlie was extremely friendly and took the cues to talk as much or as little as I wanted. Perfect pressure, speed, and uses her hands a lot (I've had some therapists that mainly use their forearms - not enjoyable). Massage Envy can be hit or miss - I've been to the Point Loma one as well and haven't had great experiences. I think you just have to bounce around with therapists until you find the right one. Update - went for a couples massage. My man had Layla and liked her a lot, too. I have stuck with Karlie since because it ain't broke and doesn't need to be fixed. So I got a gift card for Valentine's Day from my fiancé so I decided to use it asap. I went on the website and filled out the appointment preferences and they said they would call me. Well I received no call the next day so I just called. They said that they have only one appointment and so I grabbed it. They then told me their ridiculous cancellation policy, but whatever, I get it. I got there and promptly was put in the waiting room and filled out the questionnaire. The interview thing is kind of awkward. Why am I telling a lady who isn't my masseuse what I want? I was offered water and they were very nice. I met my masseuse and we talked about the same things again that I just talked to with the front desk lady. Ok. Then they give you 5 mins to undress and 5 mins at the end to dress. Ok?! So it's a 50 min massage. The massage itself was great, the woman was awesome. Listened to me about the pressure and was very professional. On my way out I go to pay and here comes the bummer, I'm nice and relaxed and hand my gift card over and they try and sell me some rediculous membership. Which mind you when my fiancé went to get my gift card, they tried to strong arm him about how he should get the hour and a half and made it seem like the 49$ option was lame. So I politely decline and get out ASAP. Totally ruined the mood. Like I said, massage was awesome. The company itself? Not so much. read more

I've been coming to this location for years. They have great customer service and awesome therapists. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because when you get a room in the back, next to the facial room, you get to very clearly hear girls chit chatting about their lives and drama.... Not exactly my idea of relaxing. Still definitely a loyal customer, just wish they would do something about the paper thin walls read more

My career as a ballet dancer/choregrapher has left permanent joint damage. Gio and other therapists find and address my painful knots in my neck, shoulder, hips, and the rest enabling me to continue a very active life as a pilot...including pushing and pulling the little planes and moving large steel hangar doors everyday. I'm so ecstatic to have joined (about 4 years now, I think) and my chiropractor has a much easier time with ART therapy after my muscles have been relaxed! Bless you ME! read more
