My career as a ballet dancer/choregrapher has left permanent joint damage. Owner runs a tight ship and the employees are top of the game. Front desk staff is always pleasant to work with: friendly, welcoming and professional. Late in the evening they also provide pleasant banter. Therapists are, predominantly, exceptional. Dominick may do the world's greatest hot-stone massage, and all of the therapists there have been extremely wonderful to work with: responsive to feedback, attentive to any changes or adjustments needed, and polite but real when I engage them in conversation. This location has done a great job taking care of me! I had an issue with my card being cancelled and the auto-renewal was going to be affected. I called ahead and Samantha was awesome. The front of house staff are always really helpful and kind. I received a facial from a young woman here, who I want to apologize to because I can't remember her name! She was awesome, though. She gave me a few personalized skin care tips, but didn't try to make a sale off of me when her job was done with the products out front. I hate feeling pressured to buy overly expensive products after I'm already paying for a special service like a facial--this young woman didn't go overboard and talked to me candidly, like a friend might. I wish I remembered her name, dang it. Shout out to you, though, nice facial lady! Then, the massage. My MT, Gio, is amazing! Seriously- I've had plenty of massages (from other places, not here) where I left wondering why I wasted money on it at all. Gio, on the other hand, finds tension I don't always even know I had! He has an easy, comfortable air and makes the membership completely worth it. His technique is superb. As for the other MTs here, I can't say. Haven't tried them. I am a massage envy member and have always been happy with my massages but I went in for a full body relaxation massage today and the massage was painful. I asked several times for lighter pressure and it never got lighter, the therapist did not focus on rubbing my muscles but did a weird tapping thing with her knuckles instead as well as putting her weight on me to produce pressure. I called to speak to a manager and was told that they will not schedule me with that person again but tried too schedule my next appointment. I just spent $70 on a massage that I did not enjoy, and instead of addressing the problem they try to get more money out of me.The therapist was very nice but the fact that I am literally hurting right now does not make up for the niceness. My boyfriend treated the two of us to a couples massage today at Massage Envy in Santee and it was incredible! The front desk girls were incredibly friendly, helpful, and were NEVER pushy! My therapist was Melissa and she was fabulous! It's like she could read my mind! I have been a member for several years and the service has been fairly good until now. Because of the pandemic I have many services pending. ME offers a freeze program for 6 months. All of this is great but getting a copy of the contract that the front desk filled out, ( white-out and scratched out info included) has been a nightmare. I tried calling a manager 3 times but was told to call back they couldn't take a message. I called today and was not allowed to talk to a manager (she is very busy) until I explained the whole thing to the front desk. I was then put through to Nicole and after explaining the entire request again I was dissatisfied with Nicole's response. Nicole was rude, inpatient and interrupted me several times, correcting my side of the events. I asked for her supervisor and was told to write a complaint email to her (Nicole) and she would forward it to her manager. I was told the managers information is confidential. First, when I arrive I was told my massage had been rescheduled for an hour later and they had taken my phone number down incorrectly so they weren't able to call and let me know. When I returned an hour later and had my massage, my massage therapist, Noemy, was absolutely fantastic BUT the ENTIRE 90 minutes, I could not relax because I could hear the loud bassy music of the straight razor haircut place next store. I let the front desk know when I left and all though they apologized and said they have had this issue before, no one offered to do anything to make it better. I had a membership with this location since 2008. I read the reviews this morning and have had similar experiences. I cancelled my membership yesterday. I am not comfortable recommending this salon based on the most recent events. Be aware that they do alot of selling. Keep track of your account and what you've accumulated. Three times I had to say "no, I have enough time in my account to cover the 90 minute appointment." "Oh, yeah, there it is...". Yes it is hard to make appointments. Yes some therapists are good. It's not the place for me. Too expensive and way too many memorized presentations... I like more personal friendly service. Look at me and not at the computer while you're talking to me! read more

I'd been looking for a good massage place for a while and was quite excited when I got a gift card for Massage Envy, a new place I'd seen and heard of in Santee. I walked in to a nice, new suite in the Town Square shopping center in Santee and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who led me to the waiting area with paperwork to fill out. My therapist came and led me to the massage room. She was friendly (though looked very green, inexperienced), but the massage was not very good. She also had bad breath and kept breathing on me when I was face up, this definitely put a hamper on the "relaxation" portion of the massage. Well, the experience up to this point wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad either...not until I went up to the counter to "pay" with my gift card. This is where the corporate schpeal came regarding their membership program. It was as if I was in an infomercial, the receptionist was trained very well as a salesperson. She wasn't overly pushy, but just very persuasive. I asked all the questions that I felt were pertinent and agreed to the membership plan. She printed out the contract and while she was trying to get me to sign it, I read it over and discovered that I had to commit to a 12-month term (this was never brought up or answered during the Q-A session I had with her) and had to prepay this amount right now. Needless to say, I felt like I had just been sold some snake-oil. I asked if there were any alternatives to this and she replied with some very cursory info and tried to push me towards the 12-month commitment again. Luckily I was able to get her to cancel it all out and left without having a big whole in my wallet. I just left the place with a bad taste in my mouth, from the "therapist's" breath as well as the infomercial salesmanship of the receptionist. Corporatization of industries is not always bad, but in this case, it came off as very impersonal. Beware, you may go in for a just a relaxing massage, but you'll get the full "timeshare" type pushy salesperson schpeal... read more

okay to start, i've had a massage here after i had been in an accident about a year ago and it had really helped me, but i hadn't been back since and my back was starting to act up again. I decided to buy three gift card ($75 each) to get the free massage. My mom's birthday was in the beginning of Decemeber, but i had finals and couldn't celebrate till this week. i decided to schedule us both for facials. Our facialist was a nice girl, but they're service is NOT worth it! My mom was going first and she was excited because she had never had a facial before. Turns out my mom had a bad reaction to her facial. We were given the option to continue the facial or stop it. since it was for my mom's birthday, we decided to continue, but the girl stopped using all the products FOR A FACIAL and decided to massage my mom's arms and neck which is fine except when my mom got home it turned out she had a bad reaction to the lotion as well. i also had a bad reaction to the lotion they used. Neither my mom or I had ever had a bad reaction with ANY products. We constantly buy new lotions and different brands. I am not sure what kind of stuff they use, but they REALLY need something better. It has been about four days and my arms still have bumps on them. i understand that this is not completely their fault because we werent aware we would have a bad reaction either. However, my complaint is that, even though my mom had a bad reaction to her facial and had no products used, or had a full body massage, we were still charged the price for a facial. Also, i had no intention to leave more than a $15 tip since they were being stingy enough to charge full price for a hand rub, they decided to charge me an additional $15 tip for the other facial, so i wasted my money on a hand rub and to find out im allergic to a product THAT I'VE NEVER CAME INTO CONTACT WITH TILL NOW. This set up is a scam!!!! DO NOT PURCHASE the membership!!!! I was under the understanding that membership was month to month and when the economy made it such that I could not continue I tried to cancel my membership - then I found out that you are locked in to a one year deal. I also had one month that was paid that I did not use and was neither refunded nor offered another massage because they placed my membership "on hold." So they have $59 of my money and I have no massage and no money. Also, I had canceled an appointment 3 days ahead of time but someone didn't mark it down and so I was charged as a no-show. Most of the therapist are like students - I had one really good one and then she left to go to a more professional practice. If you really want PROFESSIONALISM then go to a spa...or spend the money at a massage school - it's cheaper then here and you get about the same level of massage. I tried several times to resolve this matter with them but they refuse to extend any professionalism or customer courtesy, so I filed a complaint with the BBB. They can't do much, but at least other people will know that a complaint was filed against them for poor business practices. Again, go to a SPA if you want to get your money's worth. read more

About 7 times if not more out of the last years, I have received a terrible massage that didn't even help my back! I have called to let them know about this but haven't done anything about it! Im locked in a 6-month contract and can't get out, and they won't budge or give me any refund for the unsatisfied massages I've received and would of just canceled by now but can't! My wife and I have been members to this location for two years now and have been very pleased with our therapists (Jenny and Janelle, with occasionally getting others who were very good as well). So, now that I've gotten that out of the way, here comes my severe discontent with this location: every time I made an appointment, there was some type of "mis-communication" or "mis-understanding" with either the billing for our membership or even the therapy sessions. We always would get 90 min couples massages and half the time we would show up and only have 60 mins or one of us would have a 60 min and the other would have a 90 min. I made an appointment yesterday (August 4) for a 90 min couples massage for today (August 5) at 3:30. I received a call confirming a 90 min massage for ONE PERSON! That was the straw that broke the camels back...were never going to this facility again. I called the lakeside location a made an appointment for a 90 min couples massage. Since there are several locations not only San Diego, but across the nation, you never know who or what kind of massage experience you are going to get. I have been to 5 different locations in search of an amazing massage. Some have been great, some so-so, and some completely uncomfortable. It's a true shame when you find an amazing therapist but can't continue to see them because of the unprofessional, unethical, poor choices of the company. While checking out after a relaxing massage I find that M.E. snuck in a significant price increase while STILL WITHIN A ONE YEAR CONTRACT! I was never notified yet the managers only answer is "you should have received an email." The only email I received was last month stating "some" locations will be increasing their prices AFTER contract fulfillment. (Which begs the question why anyone would renew?) Is this my thank you for for putting up with scheduling conflicts due to routing the clients of TWO other M.E. Locations to the Santee location? This company fails to see the big picture and will not prosper based on such awful decisions. It's NOT ok to raise member prices 20% during a contract without directly informing the customer and offering the option of terminating the so called contract! It's most definitely NOT ok to send ONE vague email that doesn't conclusively inform your customer of the amount of the increase they specifically will be subject to. It is NOT ok to persuade a customer into becoming a member promising the customer that they would be able to get 2 massages per month for $100 (not including tip) and then tricking them into a higher price. There's a term for this: "Bait and Switch." Apparently M.E. Failed to run this by their Attorney's first.... Or did they compromise on Attorney's like they did customer satisfaction in a failed effort to save money? Goodbye Massage Envy, you lost a great customer and I'm confident there will be many more to follow. read more

I have been a member here probably since around the time they opened. I like that I can usually get in the same day, or at least the next day when I am requesting my favorite therapist, Elizabeth. They are on my speed dial so when I need one & have time, I call and usually can get in quickly. The place is nice & clean, the staff is friendly, and while I've gotten a couple of mediocre massages, for the most part, the massages are excellent. When I first signed up, I only signed up for a 6 month membership because I was very leery of it. But now it's been almost three years and I am still a happy, satisfied member. read more

One star is too much! This place is a scam. I purchased a 6 month membership and was told by their sales rep that if I did not use my massages it would not expire and could be used on a later date. Makes sense, you pay for a massage up front why would it expire. I ended up with 4 unused massages by my contracts end. As I tried to set up an appointment and use my massages I was now told that the contract states that any unused massages will expire with a cancellation of my membership. This forced me to extend my contract an additional month and pay an extra $59.00 and now gives me 5 massages to use. Having been taken once by the previous sales rep I asked what day will my membership end. The sales rep told me I have until the end of April on the 30th to use all my massages. Come April 20th Massage Envy terminated my membership with 2 massages left and told me that because I signed my cancellation on the 20th of March my membership ended on the 20th of April. WHAT A SCAM! Say one thing do another. You would think that since I was in their office the weekend before getting a massage someone would have said something at checkout. Nope. They were too busy asking for a tip. Or maybe during my final week a courtesy call informing me that I am about to lose $120.00 in massages. Nothing. To top it off, the jerks had the audacity to tell me that they would be happy to re-open my membership for an additional month for another $59.00 so I could have 30 days to use a total of 3 massages. The two I lost and the new one I would get for the new month I paid for. Are you kidding me? When it comes to asking for and taking your money they are on top of it. However when it comes to any type of customer service, explanation of what you are getting, or making sure their clients leave happy and relaxed this place is a JOKE!!! Just got done with my massage here and it was just okay. While my massage therapist was really nice, it felt so rushed and she barely spent time on the things I asked. I wasn't stretched out how I have been at every massage before (not this location). The table wasn't warmed, I was asked if I wanted it on but I feel like it should be on beforehand and if someone doesn't want it then it's turned off. Nobody wants to crawl into a cold bed. The lotion was also not warm at all, it actually gave me goosebumps. My neck is actually killing me right now, way more than when I first went in. Very disappointed. Only reason why it's two stars is because the therapist was nice. I have a membership with them for a whole year and kind of wish I didn't. read more

The customer service is horrible at this location. I made an appointment today for 12pm and when I got there they said they didn't have one for me. I confirmed the phone number I called yesterday with the girl in the front and she looked again with no appointment made under my name. She offered an appointment for tomorrow but that doesn't work out for my schedule. A free massage or at least discounted for another day/time would have been sufficient to entice me to come back as a FIRST TIME client to Massage Envy. I've been going to this location for a couple of months now. Once a day every week. Massage Envy screwed up & scheduled me for the wrong time. I've been going at the same time every week for at least 3 months. Due to the error I had to cancel the same day & they said they were going to charge me for half of the cost of the massage. This is unacceptable when I have a pattern of coming in at the same time once a week for 3 months! The manager wouldn't budge & was extremely condescending & rude. She just kept repeating herself to the point where I got pissed off & said I was going to cancel my credit card on file. For someone being a member since 2010 with a solid history of appointments at the same time this is just horrible! I'm going to have to find a new location so I can use up all of my left over massages I built up during deployment just so I can cancel this membership! read more

this place is awesome! i have been a member here for about a year and i definitely am going to keep going here for a long time. every time i go in its nothing but a great experience. The front desk girls are always polite and most of them are pretty good looking so i cant complain. Ive tried a bunch of therapists but I've finally settled on a few. if i get a Swedish i usually go to Karlie or Alicia..if my back is jacked up and i need some deep work i go see Blue or Elizabeth. They can really get down in there and get those knots out. I'm really glad i found this place because before i was paying like 80 an hour at some spa for a crappy massage and i had to drive like 20 minutes. This place is right down the street from my house so im saving a bunch of money. I definitely recommend this place considering I've never had a bad experience and its cheaper compared to most massage places read more

They have always been so helpful in getting BOTH therapists for my husband and myself. We have THREE that we love, but don't really want to tell our secret because they are already hard to get into. But, they have been fabulous and the front desk people have always been so sweet and understanding even when we have to spend 10 minutes with them scheduling both our appointments. Just had the most amazing massage from Jennifer Smiley. I have seen a number of therapists for deep tissue massages and she is the BEST. She is like a massage wizard. You HAVE to go see her. First time I tried to set up an appointment I was told I was going to be put on a brief hold which after 15 mins I hung up and called back and tried to help me right away so I think they forgot about me on hold. Then when they were trying to make my appt their computer froze in the middle of booking my appt and they took my number down and said they would call back when it came back up. Well an hour had passed and I have yet to hear back from them so I called and their computer was fine but the appt that they were setting me up for had been taken! So I chose another time and the lady told me anther time but fail to mention that it was a completely different day after taking all my info and card number down!!! I originally scheduled an appointment online and received an email saying I would be receiving a call to confirm my appointment. I waited a day and finally called the business and had to reschedule the appointment over the phone. I had my appointment scheduled for 4pm and when I arrived the lady at the front desk had the audacity to tell me that they called me and left me a voice mail informing me that my appointment had been changed to 5pm. I never received one phone call from Massage Envy all day. I do not appreciate people lying straight to my face. Just had the most AWKWARD ending to a massage I've ever had. I've been to a handful of Massage Envy locations, this was my second time at this location. The last 15 minutes or so of my 90 minute massage, my therapist pulled up a stool on wheels to sit behind my head while finishing up on my neck and shoulders (totally normal and the way many therapists end their sessions). Well, SHE FELL ASLEEP! Her hands stopped moving and her breathing changed so I opened my eyes (I was face up) and her eyes were closed. She jerked herself awake and continued. Then it happened AGAIN... TWO MORE TIMES! It was so awkward, I'd try to make a noise or move to wake her up. After my session, she followed me out to the front and stood there, so I felt really uncomfortable giving my feedback when asked how my massage was. She even heard me leave my gratuity amount so I gave her a generous tip. It was 8:15 by the end of my massage so maybe she had a long day... But MAN! So uncomfortably awkward! read more

I have been a consistent customer of Massage Envy for several years. I have had 3 horrible experiences with ME in the last 6 months but continued to maintain my membership. After the last incident that occurred in April I called to cancel my membership. I was told it was canceled and a form would be emailed for my signature. The form never came, the fee withdrew my account and caused overdraft fees. I call to address the now 4th terrible experience and was told there was nothing to be done. This time I went I got the best massage by Lisa and the best facial by Sandra. It was a complete turn around. They are super friendly and knowledgeable.
